Honestly Cyber Sleuth is pretty good even for new fans. It does a pretty decent job of giving the player an overview of the concept of digimon and is really competent gameplay wise. One of the real strengths of the game is that it plays to Digimon's strengths which have always been the plot and the characters, they are the reason many people enjoy the anime so much. So while Cyber Sleuth is more story heavy I would say it's probably more true to Digimon's success as a franchise.

The problem Jaiden had was that the Digifans didn't have an agreement on 1 game that was the best for newcomers, even after many attempts of research. In the end, she had to watch reviews and ratings instead of who had the most upvotes, which ended up being Cyber Sleuth (there was even a reactor who said this game wasn't the best for starters, but then I see comments who says it's good for starters. Digimon fans in the west don't really participate in the whole "Digimon vs Pokèmon" thing, we understand that the only thing they really share is a genre. It's like if Final Fantasy fans decided only Final Fantasy is allowed to be an RPG and everything that tries to be an RPG is just a ripoff and nobody should like it. It happens with every monster capturing RPG but Persona, it's always treated as "Pokèmon, but..." and is always compared to pokèmon until it gets bullied out of the west. Digimon fans tend to like both (myself included) and it really doesn't help that pokèmon fans typically don't know what they're talking about in any discussion involving other monster capturing rpgs; they tend to just look at it, see the most surface level similarities, and just immediately write it off as a worse clone of pokèmon.

However, in the case of New Vegas, everyone agrees it’s one of the better ones, if not the best. The issue with digimon games is that no game really has a collective opinion on it. With Digimon, I've always found it more personal? Like, in the anime, the human characters would have one Digimon partner to rely on, making sure to emphasis their bonds were what made the Digimon stronger. It's similar with the games, but it is still a monster taming game, so...
However, as much as your Digimon changes, back and forth, it's still the same mon. (Also, I like that Digimon can change back and forth because sometimes, I hate the final Pokemon evo. 😔)

    • @AmonicCrow
      @AmonicCrow Год назад +3

      Seriously!
Warning, this is a really big rant/analysis kind of thing so you don't have to read all of this at all if you don't wanna
It feels more personal because of topics being talked about that Pokemon rarely if NEVER touches, like TK and Matt being from a divorced home and not seeing each other often and TK having his arcs of how he processes it all and showing his own personal views with subtle things like how he didn't want the group to separate, and Izzy being adopted and how that affects his relationship with his parents, the topic of simply thinking and mentioning for a moment that the event that made all of the original kids Digidestined being something digimon related that the normal adults mistook as a terrorist attack.
The whole fact that in the original show, the crests and ultimate digivolutions were so closely intertwined with the characters actually growing as people and not just because their Digimon got to the required level or had a special item that made it happen. Digimon with how they approach the relationships of humans and their Digimon partners in different ways is always an interesting experience. At it's very core, it's meant to be a franchise about childhood and being a kid and having these personal and special moments. The crests being a symbol of a trait that the kids have in their personality whether they realize it being there or not and only activating when the kid in question comes to realize what they truly stand for or grow in their views as a person or simply stand by the view they had from the start in a difficult situation and be true to themselves, it just feels much more personal than having a special stone that makes a Pokemon go to an even farther stage than their natural final/adult stage with the mega evolutions like that of Charizard, Lucario and many more having.
It doesn't emphasize on the relationship of the Trainer and Pokemon, it's just a possible thing.
Another reason why it feels more personal is that the Digimon can speak and voice their own opinions as purposeful contrasts or compliments to the kids' personalities and in some shows'/generations of Digimon have their very own personality and may have disagreements with their Tamers like in well- Digimon Tamers, like Henry not wanting to fight or allow Terriermon to fight due to fear of it changing his friend and Terriermon wanting to fight to show what he's made of and to help the others and as well as the case of Impmon going on his own and running away from his tamers because he came to the conclusion that Humans are all selfish but later reflecting and learning they aren't all that way at all and learning as a person. Don't get me wrong, I love both franchises but at the end of the day, a Pokemon is still gonna go back into their Pokeball after a battle is done and can't truly choose, like those who didn't even want to be caught by a trainer and were still caught to later come to terms with how they are now a human's Pokemon. In Digimon it feels much more like the Tamers and their partners are at equal footing and need to work together to make the entire thing actually work fundementally, like in tamers again, it has to be a completely mutual agreement and you can't force a Digimon to do something they don't want to do. Though in theory you could, but it would probably end up in a dark digivolution. Aside from that, otherwise digivolution doesn't happen and your Digimon can dislike you and in some cases literally just run away.
My conclusion is that in a lot of cases, Digimon can feel more personal than Pokemon sometimes, and often than not, more frequently than Pokemon since it can tackle topics that usually aren't talked about. Pokemon can get me crying too, but personally it just happens more with Digimon, and I knew of Pokemon first! I just grew closer to Digimon as a franchise.

Most digimon game players probably grew up with Digimon World, the game lets you just figure things on your own, which is probably what the majority of digimon game fans does, they figure stuff on their own lol cause if their first game is DW1 it explains a lot, but despite all that, it was rewarding. But i agree when it comes to Dawn/Dusk, cause in DW1 there are no mazes, no random encounters, you can see enemies physically you can easily avoid them.

The charm of digimon games for me is the grinding. So the un-repel maze is to cater that charm. Not to mention, that lots of digivolution came from the same rookie/baby digimons. So the grinding is necessary so that you can unlocked other evolutions that has a requirements (atleast in the games i used to play).
And dont forget that Digimon is Digital Monster. Based on the name alone, A.I. is everything in this game. So thats why the mons can talk like human. And thats why the main boss and enemies not always be human and can be Digimon. Because the A.I. evolved to become an evil being. Just like human. Its different from Pokemon because Pokemon is supposed to be a 'real-life'. So the main enemies are humans. Thats what I think, having playing the 2 franchise side by side all my life.

As a Digimon fan let me try to clear up a few things.
For the 'who is behind the virus behind the virus', basically the story is that man made computer, computer made an entire alternate world with laws and rules that have no relation to the real one, and ran from there. So if you die int he digital world you follow those rules, you become data and die just like anything else.
Digimon as a series has no 1 formula, and that is one of the appeals, chances are some video game, anime, or card game will work at least a bit for you.
But Dawn was NOT where to start. It's a sequel and the entire gameplay IS grinding, that's the point.
OK to explain if anyone reads this, let me compare real quick. If you want a Charizard you get a Charmander, raise level 16 forCharmeleon, and then your still 15 and raise to 36 fpr Charizard.
if you want ShineGreymon you start with Koromon, go to Agumon from level up, you can't get to GeoGreymon because you need to be level 20 but are capped at 19, so go to Greymon at level 19, which makes you a level 1 Greymon, degenerate BACK into Agumon, back to level one but your level cap and stats are better so now you can level back up to go to GeoGreymon, RiseGreymon WOULD be next but you need to have something like 2500 EXP from Machine Digimon which you can't reasonably get yet so either just stay at the cap and don't get better until you get that Machine EXP or degenerate BACK into Agumon so you can evolve BACK into Geogreymon to get more stats while you wait for a good way to get the Machine EXP, then you get ShineGreymon. From there you need 270 ATK and 15,000 Holy EXP plus a level of 54 to FINALLY get ShineGreymon, but you will need to grind the Holy EXP and it's totally possible that level 54 will not get you that 270 ATK so grind past that, possibly degenerate and evolve AGAIN for more stats, and now you FINALLY have ShineGreymon...but just for the record may want to degenerate and evolve again for that last bit of stats you want.
That's a lot, it's grinding and planning and patience. But if you like that, if you like planning and watching those numbers work for you, it feels GOOD, satisfying. If you don't though...well good luck with that, maybe pick a different game.

Digimon is an isekai series; it is not a video game world you log in. You can really die there. The digital world(s) exist as some kind of cyberspace transformed into parallel dimension.
The Digimon themselves (AI that exist in a transdimensional junk folder that has turned into something resembling an ecology) absorb data and reconfigure their files to digivolve and thus technically have branching evolution paths at almost every stage. It is not a biological process, so cat to angel is less about DNA and more about metaphors and "diet".
It is not a franchise helped by the fact that almost every series and several games exist in their own universe within a shared multiverse. Heck some of the anime series exist as fiction within other other series and games...and then they physically meet each other, albeit acknowledging they are from seperate universes.
Note: I am not a big Digimon fan, nor have I watch all the series. I have never played any of the games. I did watch some of the earlier series. The above stuff is like low hanging fruit for the fandom.

Digimon games have issues for sure, and the anime although very nostalgic is not without issues, I do like it more than the Pokemon anime tho.
Digimon games are split into 2 types for the most part
1 - the RPG pokemon esque games where you have a team, grind and evolve to go through dungeons and progress the story
2 - The tamagochi kind, tamagochi is the origin of Digimon, or as they called them back then, v-pets, essencially tamagochi that could connect and battle, these games are world exploration, with pet raising and quests, you raise up the digimon, but like tamagochi they have limited livespans, need proper treatment, training, and everytime they die and reincarnate, they start off stronger so you can do more with them, this is the more niche genre of Digimon games and you either love it or don't care about it
on the side we have some fighting games, card games (modern digimon tcg is actually pretty fun), and the most recent, Digimon Survive, a visual novel with a little bit of RPG mixed in, it was advertised this way, yet most people thought it would be more RPG heavy, so they complained about it being 90% text when it came out.
Of all the games, like she mentioned, Cyber Sleuth is the most player friendly, and my personal favourite, the grinding is reasonable and mostly optional, there are plenty of Digimon to unlock, some require a bit more investment to unlock, but like I said, it's optional for the most part. The story is not super complicated, the presentation is nice, and it does something Pokemon has never done, despite the large quantity of Digimon available, most have a unique special attack with its own animation.
btw that digimon she showed and you said "THIS EVOLVES FROM A CAT" is called Lucemon, and it does not evolve from a cat, you are thinking of Angewomon :P
Yeah although the digivolution lines do not always make sense, it's one of the wonders of Digimon, most of them can evolve into multiple digimon, and it's fun to see what you unlock next.
For example in Cybersleuth, you can have multiple choices of evolution, let's say you don't like the one you got, you can de-evolve it backwards, and try to unlock a new one, and while that may sound annoying, to level it up again, by the end of the game you can have Digimon in your party that multiply the EXP you get from battles + equipment that increases exp earned in battle, like getting your new mons from lvl 1 to 50 in literally 5 minutes, and less than an hour for lvl99 2 party members

I tried to scan the comments to see if anyone has brought this up yet, but didn’t see it. So digimon do not have a set digivolution line. Their are digimon that more naturally evo into each other, agumon into greymon, but the games tend to change what can turn into what. Their are certain lines that tend to be together or have something similar so they are grouped together, but digimon are influenced by various forms of data and can change drastically based on what data they have. The tamagotchi like digivice’s that started the franchise and are still being made today, allow you to raise your digimon and what they turn into is influenced by how you raise them.

For anyone curious, no, this is completely normal in the digital world. In fact, humans have very very little to do with digimon in general! There are some digimon that were created by humans originally (like salamon and labramon) but those are the minority. Digimon are completely sentient beings and have their own communities, and sometimes the core of the digiworld decides to fuck them over! This has happened multiple times!

Pokemon landed on a "good enough" formula since original gameboy ones and stuck to the formula iterating mostly on graphics and pokedex with zero changes to the game loop. Digimon games are an inconsistent mess. I love them. But with that love comes admittance of franchise flaws.

To give you some context, in the franchise, any digimon can evolve into multiple forms depending on how they lived, their stats, environment, data that they absorbed, etc being that if the conditions are given, any digimon can evolve into any digimon
In gatomon's case, it can evolve into an angel woman because it has data of holy digimon in it being that it CAN evolve into holy digimons like angels and stuff, but it can also evolve into beasts, dragons etc depending on many factors, the same for many digimons like in jaiden's case where a white dinosaur evolved into a big worm / sea serpent / snake with dragon data and a metal thing on its head xd

The issue with this is that it's all about the TYPE of complaining. Jaiden on the video says it pretty well when she says "it's not angry complaining either", like, there's a difference between a fandom going into complaining wars after every change, and a franchise where people who try to recommend it are like "yeah I recommend this, buuuut...", which is what happens with like Digimon and Sonic and the like. The first type is good and healthy, the second type is a fandon that has been battered repeatedly and really needs an intervention.
For the record: if you want to start digimon, pick cyber sleuth, it's not as story heavy as jaiden thought and it is by far the best introduction, not even necessarily because of quality, but just because it is easy to comprehend how it is supposed to work.
And this brings me to the issues with the franchise. There's 2 big ones:
1-Lack of Consistency. Every other digimon game is COMPLETELY different from the rest. Sometimes it doesn't even seem liie the same game company much less the same franchise. It's like if Mario games instead of having a core franchise of platformers with spinoffs to boot, it was just the spinoffs, like after super mario 1 came the olympics followed by kart and right next mario galaxy with 0 other games inbetween to let you understand what the hell it's supposed to even work. And most of them, specially the ones that are sequels story wise (like dawn here) do not explain any part of the world or story either, they expect you to know beforehand what is going on, that's why dawn starts you at the end of a tournament without any intro. And trust me, it can get very weird very fast.
2-Complexity. Jaiden described digimon world as being like Tamagotchi... That's not coincidental. Digimon World 1, which is the first digimon game, started as a fusion of tamagotchi with the JRPG formula. That was the inspiration. And if you know your JRPGs and Tamagotchi you know both of those things are VERY complex. And most digimon games are even more complex than that, even mechanically, the story is anoyher mindfuck altogether. Some of the games (cyber sleuth specially) simplified a bit and at least gave you a good intro before throwing you at the insanely complex world, but most digimon games just expect you to be good at the genre before you start, they do not have a tutorial worth a damn, the closest thing they have only introduces the new mechanics. And they can be very obtuse.
So yeah... It's not the same kind of complaining as pokemon. The digimon franchise knows some real pain. But it is oretty good at times. Just avoid the ds games, those are trash, and start with cybrr sleuth, trust me, you don't want to start with the others right of the bat.

I kinda don't get why some people get so caught up with the evolution thing. Yeah, it's off-putting at first, but the thing is that digimon don't really have evolution "lines", they're trees. An Agumon could become a Greymon, a Tyrannomon or whatever reptile adult level mon. It keeps things exciting and it makes it feel like how you decide to grind your mons actually matters bc you can get a dif one depending on stats (and depending on the game you play). Besides, if digivolutions would always make intuitive sense, they'd be too similar to pokemon and pokemon fans would still be complaining.
I'm just now realizing how weird some of the complaints that pokemon fans have about digimon are. "It's a Pokemon clone!" "It's too different and weird!". Lmao, make up your mind.

-First off, the choice of game. Yes, Jaiden chose wrong. Mainly because Digimon Dawn/Dusk is a SEQUEL to digimon world DS. And yes, that one was also grindy and convoluted, but Dawn/Dusk being, once again an effing SEQUEL turns it up to eleven. And of course it doesn't tutorialize nor does it explain the setting; it assumes you've already played the game it's a SEQUEL for.
-"Is it like SAO? If you die in the game do you die for real?" No, there is no game. Dhe digital world is an straight-up alternate dimension, connected to the human world through it's cyber-space. So all the digimon tamers are physically in the digital world and could indeed very easily be killed.
-" the computer virus that was behind the computer virus?" Indeed it was. And it's not that much of a twist, since digimon is basically the "IA gainig sentience" turned to the nth degree. Just so you can imagine, it all started with a computer running a wild life simmulation for fictional species, IA rampancy kicks in and by the time you realize the simmulation isn't being hosted in the computer any longer, instead it has constructed it's own parallel dymension to exist in, those hypothetical creatures have evolved (In the darwinian sense, not digivolution) into monsters called digimon that follow natural rules completely alien to the world you know and some of which couid even destroy the world itself; and the computer hosting and running things has trancended into godhood. So yeah, a computer virus gaining sentience, turning into a digimon and messing things up is npt really a surprise.

Digimon is a strange case, it's a franchise that for the longest time didn't have a set formula. This was both good and bad as it meant anyone can find something to enjoy, but also lack of consistency hurts the franchise.
Digimon CAN be fun, very much so. The problem is Jaiden picked THE WORST game to start with, dawn and dusk are not that good in many ways and dawn is WORSE than dusk since dawn doesn't have a tutorial segment to introduce you to things, dusk DOES have a tutorial. Do you see the issue? She really should have gone for dusk or cyber sleuth, or even hackers memory.
Cybersleuth and its sequel are THE BEST starting game to get into Digimon as they take what works from dawn and dusk and get rid of most of the bad. Those games are essentially the formula Digimon will most likely use as its main one from now on(tho there will be alternatives, like survive which is 60% visual novel, and a damn good visual novel at that)

There are several things I'd like to say but I'll refrain from most to keep just the small thing that somehow really got me
    1. Your issue with Digimon evolution is partially answered by yourself when said they were computer programs. To clarify, they aren't necessarily programs but they are Data based Creatures/Digital Lifeforms. This means they are naturally affected by data and energy. Since the data they could effectively come to obtain can vary wildly so to can what they turn into thus you end up something like Cat becoming Angel that turns into a Dragon or Dinosaur turning into Cyborg version of itself only to then become a knight. Not of it is set in stone and can have it's own context behind it.
    2. the Digimon she showed in a framed portrait at the end with the Mix of Angel and Demon wings is Lucemon and doesn't evolve from what your thinking of. In fact Lucemon is interesting example as he actually evolves from a lower version of himself. It works like this, Lucemon becomes Lucemon Falldown Mode(The one in the video) which can go further in to Lucemon Shadow Lord/Satan Mode and Lucemon Larva.

    1. When it comes to a fandom being able to recommend a game I think Pokemon has a leg up on what Jaiden seems to have experienced looking for a good Digimon game. "Hey, I wanna start getting into Pokemon games, any recommendations?" right off the bat you will have an overwhelming swell of "Heart Gold or Soul Silver" being recommended.
    2. Even Digitubers who have watched this said that this was very much the wrong game for a beginner, and recommended a few in their videos that have actual tutorials in them.
    3. Screw games where side quests aren't optional and gatekeep story progression.
Mind you this doesn't include missions where a person with important plot progression asks for a favor before giving you info/important item. eg: Three dog wanting you to repair a communications dish before helping you progress in finding your father. As opposed to Saints Row 2 where you have to do multiple pointless side activities to get to story progression.

Digimon aren't created by people, the virus Digimon aren't created by people, they just exist they are born from Digi-eggs.
Also Digivulution isn't as straight forward as you implied, every Digimon can turn into 2-8 different Digimon based on other factors.
Aka if you don't understand the basics of Digimon any game you play isn't going to make sense. The discourse between the fans is because there are three different types of Digimon games some are closer to visual novels, other are like the one in Jaiden's video and my favorites are raising your Digimon to fight in an auto battler situation but all are very different from Pokemon because their actually based on Tamagachi not Pokemon as it was literally made as Tamagachi for boy's.
I hope I could explain some misunderstandings for you

I left a comment on Jaidens video as well, but let's take part in conversation here since it is here!
I've played pretty much *every* Digimon game (outside of the console exclusives after PS2) under the sun and pretty much only one I've enjoyed, as mentioned by Jaiden in the video, is Cyber Sleuth. Rather than Persona, it reminds me more of Pokémon XD/Colosseum, has some good writing moments and fun characters and was overall an ok time.
But probably the most time I've spent in is the Digimon World for PSX and just as it was mentioned, it is this weird... Tamagotchi + RPG... thing. I was never able to beat it since the game was REALLY friggin' hard if you did not know exactly what you were doing. I've probably spent hundreds of hours on that as kid because I remember really liking the first season of Digimon anime as a kid and were determined to get as far as I could. (And Tamagotchis were still kinda a thing back then, so that helped.)
Speedruns of DW1 are actually kinda fun. They were literally the only time I actually saw the ending of the game. lol

The digital world in Digimon is whack. They may have started from computers, but the world developed into it's own thing like a hyper advanced learning computer. It is it's own dang planet made of hyper sentient code. The code can literally dissolve an irl person or object to binary code, control people and other Digimon, and Digimon operate on Tamagotchi logic where they just rebirth when they die unless their cores are destroyed. Cores are basically their soul. Digimon are both physically real in the human world and in their own world, as much as humans can become code. It is more dimensional travel than restricted to computers most of the time. The interpretation does vary between season of anime or video game, but generally an Agumon is both a file and an organism.

13:27 it depends, but as far as i know, if you were transporte to the digital World, then yes, you die for real, and there probably isn't even a corpse to find on the human World.
15:03 right, most digimons are sentient, inteligent, capable of speech, emotions and anything a human can do plus the power to destroy Worlds in some cases.
16:50 not even one of those was right.
21:06 digimons can act, change, evolve and take decisions on their own. Depending on the unirversr humas didn't even created digimons, instead the digimons existed on another dimension and the rise of tecnology only connected the two Worlds.
25:21 some evolutions don't make any sense, others make a lot of sense, others only make sense if you know the lore, but that specific digimon dosn't evolves from a Cat but from a smaller angel, wich gets corruped and half turns into a demon.
26:12 sorry, but have you seen digimon adventure tri? or digimon universe? Or digimon adventure 2020? They are so bad, borderline unwachable.
I separate each sentence a lot in the hopes that it dosn´t look that heavy to read

    so Digimon in a nutshell
All info in the computers became a digital world, the internet exanded it even more, that info got born into Digimon, so their forms represent that concept that was put in the net
For Tailmon, cats are seen as holy in egyptian myth, that got mixed with some biblical text with the angels depiction and rings, so the ring on Tailmon is a holy ring, then cause there is no simple jump to deity in egyptian myth from a cat, it can go into another holy race, angels
also, they all have diverging evolution lines, some more complex than others in how to and Tailmon can become Bastetmon... through a bit more effort
edit: Mewtwo talks, through Telepathy, and so does Arceus by the way

I will say in regards to Digimon talking is that it only feels weird if you expect them to be like Pokémon. Pokémon are animals (pets) while most Digimon are basically people (friends in case of your partners).
If you apply the Pokémon/Trainer dynamic to something that acts and talks like a person it makes the whole owning and forcing another living being to fight for your amusement thing a tad uncomfortable. Digimon don't have that dynamic with their tamers.
What dynamic Digimon do have varies between the different seasons and games. That can be a pro or a con depending on how you look at it (personally I prefer that Digimon can use and ignore lore/canon however it wants to tell the current story but if you're trying to get a grip of Digimon as a whole it's not exactly helpful). I'm sure there's some Digimon media out there that uses a similar monster/trainer dynamic to Pokémon but the closest I can think of was only done with a villain (he didn't fully comprehend that Digimon were real so felt no remorse making them hurt each other).
I think a better comparison in Pokémon terms would be mystery dungeon. In mystery dungeon there are no people so Pokémon become equivalent to people. You and your partner are equals who share a goal and need to compromise. Digimon usually work the same way in the Digital World. The only real difference is that when a human gets sent to the Digital World they don't also turn into a Digimon (except for that one season).
If you go in expecting something closer to mystery dungeon (at least where the partner dynamic is concerned) it might feel more accessible. That said I started with Digimon first so I don't know what it's like viewing it with Pokémon expectations.

I mean, the Cybersleuth games and the World Re:Digitize continuity of games have actually been good
The SAO thing.......Depends on the continuity and if your body and soul are sent to the Digital World or Digimons go to the Human world.....so yeah, there is a risk of dying....and don't forget that digimon are fully sapient...and sometimes they can have Blue and Orange moralities.
I would say, if you want to start with an easy digimon game, that you will enjoy if you like Pokemon......yeah, i would say Cybersleuth. Because we are talking about your entry into franchise, not THE BEST GAME!, it is a really good entry.....not the really old ones that didn't really know what they were doing.
Its an easy entry and an RPG. The only annoying thing is the ABI requirement for Digievolution. Its basically pokemon with an actual interesting story. And no, it doesnt really feel like persona.
I played Hacker's Memories and i loved it, i am still getting all the digimon (Lucemon Satan Mode was a bitch and a half to get)
On the Question of how to unlock the story, you have a set of missions, from side story to the actual missions you have to do to progress the story (those are a bit bland, ngl.) But the Eden dungeons are pretty straightforward, there is a minimap and you have several Hacker abilities that make traversal easier.
You can grind in this game, if you want, but it is much easier when you have an Ultimate Level neutral digimon and either 2 Platinum Sukamon, which double the amount of experience all the mons get, or 2 Platinum Numemon, which quadruple the EXP.
Meanwhile you have several isles in the Digilab where your digimon gain experience(over time) and can train specific stats to access different digievolutions, craft items, or Investigate for side missions which either dont really do much, or after passing them you get an item needed for a specific Digievolution (I have all the Royal Knights except Magnamon, because the darn mission, in which you get the digieggs of Miracle and Destiny, won't freaking appear).
After Cybersleuth, if you want to experience what Pure OG Digimon is like, you could play the Digimon Next Order.....and experience what raising a Digimon is first hand...jsyk the digimon are on a timer and they die of old age.......Have fun with that
"Who was behind the Virus" Answer: A Virus Type digimon who decided he wanted to either destroy the digital world, rule it, destroy the digital world or destroy the Human world. Yes, digimons can be antagonists and decide they want to be evil dicks.....sometimes out of Megalomania or simply because they want to be evil.

I grew up in the 90s in Germany. Digimon and Pokemon were both a thing, I remember watching the anime and that I had sticker albums of both. I dont know what happened, but after some time Digimon was just pushed into the background by Pokemon, even though they are quite different when you look at them closer. Now I am so used to the Pokemon games, when I want to start a Digimon game, I get overwhelmed by the "evolution" possibilities because there is no 1 evolves into 2 and then 3. Instead it is (apart from exceptions) this 1 can evolve into one of these 10 and I am simply used to 2 decades of the Pokemon concept. My copy of Digimon World next order is still waiting for me to continue exploring.

Digimon has some really good games, but I also think nostalgia plays a huge part. As a child you have the patience to explore more and make errors, but as an adult you get more impatient and want to make progress faster. I am an anime fan, but I also LOVE Digimon World 1 and Digimon World 3. I think Digimon Story Cybersleuth is pretty good, and I am waiting for Digimon World Next Order to come out on the Switch so I can finally play it (it is similar to Digimon World 1).
Digimon games are different from Pokèmon in a lot of ways though, and you always have to read about what genre the game is, or try it out to see if it is a fit for you. I know a lot of people don't like the first digimon game because it is similar to raising tamagotchi, because Digimon originally started out as a tamagotchi (V-pet) before the anime, so it gets frustrating to having to feed them, take them to the toilet, and training them, only to have a certain amount of time before they die of old age. But it also makes it more challenging, and really fun once you get the hang of it.
I think a Pokèmon fan should maybe have started with Digimon World 3 though. It is pretty similar to a lot of Pokèmon games, and the only complaint for me is that leveling up takes a really long time once you start getting higher level Digimon.

    1. Digimon as the name implies are digital monsters
    2. Digimon have rank lvls not number lvls
Where Pokémon can lvl 1-100 digimon start from a digiegg to baby, training lvl, rookie, champion, ultimate, then finally mega
Digimon takes place in a world where people and digimon use the multiverse theory where the digimon live in the digital world which is linked to the World Wide Web in the human world and select few kids get digivices and a partner digimon to help solve conflicts in both so simply 2 worlds 1 story
    3. Theirs are different forms of digivolution
DNA digivolve from anime season 2,
Hybrid digivolve from season 3 digimon tamers,
Burst mode from digimon data squad,
    Spirit digivolve from digimon frontier,
And finally digifuse from digimon fusion/digimon hunters,
4.Digimon have types but only 3
    1.data type
    2.virus type
    3.vaccine type
    5. They’re will be metal variants in a digimon evolution line depending on which evolution tree you’re going down
