Gene spoke from his heart. I even felt moved as Gene was talking in detail about Eric's last days on earth. Gene can act like a jerk at times, but when he does speak, he is extremely eloquent.
+Han Solo Gene can be a scumbag, as well as Paul. Just listen to Peter Criss talk to Eddie Trunk. Peter was suffering from cancer (thank God that he recovered). A fan gave Eric a copy of his crazy night drum set and Eric was like a kid before his xmas gift. He kept on asking questions and you could see into his eyes how happy he was to receive such a thing. RIP Eric
The Australian tour with Eric was brilliant, we embraced him whole heartedly. His voice was great and his playing was amazing and his Ludwig kit rocked. The Fox was all over the papers and magazines, his make up fitted perfectly and his playing lifted the music. He was on the Icy pole packets of 1980, it was a lot of fun and everyone loved him and Peter Criss the same. Through the good and bad times of each member etc. The only thing I really want to say here is "thank you" to KISS. OzzieAndy1983 Well if you heard interviews of Ace Frehley or Peter Criss... it's all rubbish and is typical of 70s rockers/stoners. Gene and Paul are definitely different.
James Gowan I'll have to hear Ace and Peter tell their sides of the story because I decide, what I can say is Gene and Paul don't want to muck around, because Ace and Peter did that, so did Vinnie, Gene and Paul and Bruce did not want Eric Carr to pass away and yet lots of people are angry at those 3 because they believed media because of how they interpreted the story, along with those rumors making it sound like they did not care for him, they did care for Eric and they all miss him to this day. KISS is about music, not money, and they care for the fans too.
The last concert in America of Kiss in makeup was April 3rd, 1983 in San Francisco, my first Kiss concert, I got to see Eric Carr on the drums, me and my brother (who is dead) a great memory.
I knew right away he was the right drummer for Kiss the first time I heard "I love it loud". He took every they did before and made it faster, louder and heavier. Kiss' first heavy metal drummer.
Eric Carr was asked which KISS Album he liked the least. His answer? Music From The Elder (1981). He was also asked: Which KISS Album do you like the most. His answer? Creatures Of The Night (1982). That, folks, shows you that this guy had a great head on his shoulders, thinking-wise! He banged the proverbial stuffing outta those drums for Creatures Of The Night, and he loved it! If you look at the Credits Section, as to who played or sang what on Creatures, Eric Carr actually played Bass Guitar on the song "I Still Love You". True fact! He could play drums, and sing Backing Vocals, and he could play Bass Guitar, too. He was definitely Multi-Talented, and it showed, too. Rest In Peace, Eric Carr. We love you, and we miss you!
@@ronaldshank7589He also played guitar some. There’s a backstage outtake of Paul, Gene, Eric and Bruce playing an acoustic guitar and singing Beatles songs.
After hearing this story from so many points of view over the years, my sense was, the bottom line was...they didn't think/know he was going to die. If you read Paul's book, Eric had stopped talking to him on the couple of tours prior to this. Gene is always so full of thoughts about himself, that I don't think he always remembers things the way they really happened. I think he just gives sound-bite worthy speeches. Don't mean that as cutting him down, just saying, I just think everyone kind of took the situation for granted. Kiss were in a very important time of their career, as they had a hit with Forever, they were working with Bob Ezrin again and Gene was re-engaged. I think they were all very focused on moving forward and were kind of in denial about the serious nature of Eric's health. I doubt Eric had accepted he was going to die either. But given his situation, I think he was very angry and chose to blame the band for cutting him off and they were oblivious to it.
I think that’s part of it. I don’t think they cut him off totally because of money, but also because of his fragile health. I do think they cared about him.
I met Gene in 02. We had a very intense half hour talk about music and life. This is what he was like with me. Very cool, down to earth and real. As I was with him.
It was Eric's time.just think of what he left behind in 41 years and the effect and influence he had on people.July 25 1980 N.Y. Palladium.Erics first show with kiss.He did a drum solo that still resonates in my head !!! He also had that rasp singing Black Diamand.
I heard of people who talked about Gene cutting off Eric's life insurance from the band's budget. Those people need to watch this clip, Gene's demeanor, the tone in his voice is anything but business-like, he talks about losing a friend and you see that it still hurts to talk about Eric Carr's death. He's talking not about Eric Carr but about Paul Caravello and he's doing so as Chaim Weitz, not as Gene Simmons.
i was too young to know eric carrs music with kiss but for gene simmons I have the upmost respect for him not just as a great musician but a person that cares about his fans cares about his community and cares about who he works with.
Eric, our pretty boy. You're on our minds every second, and we miss you more by everyday that goes. You gave us so much. You inspired so many, and we're gonna do what you couldn't finish. We're gonna live for you. We love you undescribably much. Hope you have it peacefully up there in the clouds, and playing drums for all the angels. I bet you have a whole crowd there cheering for you. Cuz we are. You are our angel. Rest i peace, and never forget how much we love you Paul Charles Caravello☁️🤍🦊
This man has said word for word what I have said all along. Do not mourn their death, rejoice over their life. However, I am still going to visit Eric's burial place.
Once Eric Carr actually did a telephone interview with someone from my college newspaper. He didn't have to do it, but he did, that's the kind of guy Eric Carr was.
I don't believe either of them completely. But I think Paul's account is probably closer to the truth, and at least he expressed regret over the way they treated Eric in his final months.
Listen to the audio from Paul's book. Paul alleged that Eric refused to speak to them, and so did his family. He claims that they had zero info on Eric and found out he died only from someone the paramedics found in his rolodex at home.
But in Paul's book he said that Eric's family basically wrote them off after Eric passed. Paul says he now knows why, and he wishes he could do it differently
Thank you Gene for keepin' real. There are folks out there that don't truly know the whole story. They need to see this from the lion's 'tongue'. Truth be told, Gene and Paul loved Eric. Rest In Peace Eric. We miss you deeply.
Gene is a good man. You can say things about him but who of us are perfect ? We all are human. Gene and Eric and Paul are good guys. They worked hard and against the odds because successful. Who can fault them for that . Nobody. God bless
I recently watched the Eric Carr story and was blown away by his personality and love all who knew him felt for the guy. I really would liked to have met him and seen him perform.
Well it's the good that die young right? No mystery here. RIP Eric Carr. Gr8 drummer and a champion human being , privileged 2 have seen him performing live in Melbourne.
This video was uploaded 6 yrs ago. In the meantime the truth revealed. They, actually, paul is the boss, so they FIRED Eric and did not paid His medical bills that's why Eric's family did not let them visit Eric in hospital. Don't believe me? Google is your friend! They were not even invited to Eric's funeral! They were there and played the good guys. So, "nice" lies, chaim! As time goes by, now everything seems to be forgiven paul and chaim, so I say no more... Money talks...
Two different stories from Gene and Paul. Paul fell in love with Eric Singer during his solo tour while Eric and Paul admittedly had a strained relationship. Eric was kept isolated from Kiss in his final days because he knew they were going to fire him and terminate his insurance. Paul was fed up with Eric. I'm inclined to believe Gary Corbett instead of Gene and Paul because those two were very close during the HITS days.
@@puppaman well then there is 365 days and 366. days in a leap year so its very low odds that you'll die on the same day, almost impossible but it happened that's why it's strange think about it

I had no interest in PLAYING any instruments whatsoever. However, I had been a KISS fan, literally since 1974, when I was 4 years old, the year their debut album was released. Me, my best friend, his brother, and HIS best friend all had a different favorite member of KISS (mine was Ace). This was quite fortuitous, as we used to pretend we were the band members, with their powers from KISS meets the Phantom of the Park. When it was said Peter was leaving, I was livid. I didn't care who replaced him. It wasn't going to be KISS.....then I saw Eric and my desire to become a drummer flew out of the gate in earnest. It took me a very, very long time to get over his passing, but I was blessed to see the lads on the Crazy Nights tour. R.I.P. Eric! Thanks for inspiring me to do something I had previously had no interest whatsoever in doing. You were the only "idol" I ever had. Much love to you, and I hope to catch up with you on the other side of the Pearly Gates.
Eric Carr is one of the best class Acts in Rock Music got to meet Kiss in 1988 and Eric and Gene were so great they were so nice and I'll never forget how humble they both were. It was a awesome moment in my life have loved kiss as long as I can remember.
hes such a sincere man and loved by so many , i never listen to a second gossip i dont believe what people say about him , hes a great father and a faithful husband
I'm not a big KISS fan, so I don't know why my RUclips feed contained a segment from Paul Stanley's book. However it happened, I just listened to it, and it's wildly at variance with Gene Simmons' story here. Paul said that he and Gene were shut out of Eric's life after Eric had undergone open heart surgery. Paul also claims that it never occurred to him that Eric would die, which made it all the more shocking when he received the call that Eric _had_ died. Again, according to Paul, Eric and his family had turned their backs on Paul and Gene because Eric felt as if he'd been cut adrift by them.
elcaminodelrey why does everyone rag on Gene? everyone looks at him like he is a Jew. well, he is Jewish and was bought up to respect money and work. after he bought home his first 10 billion check, his mother said , what is next. he and Paul kept the band rich so you don't hear them crying.
@@ericbock3603 Paul himself is on record saying he feels terrible about how they handled the Eric situation. It has nothing to do with him and Gene being Jews.
@@bobshenix Paul and Gene told Eric to get well and take good care of himself and neither knew he would not survive..They thought they were doing right by him by wanting him to take the time to get well again. Eric took that as they didn’t want him anymore in the band. He stopped talking to either of them and told everyone they basically kicked him to the curb. Maybe that’s how he perceived it. But they made sure his bills were paid and that he had great insurance. Maybe they misunderstood each other. Maybe people thought they should have done more for him and his family financially. But I think they wanted Eric back in the band but wanted him to worry more about getting well at the time he got cancer.
2:00 he said paul n him knew he wasnt going to make it but paul mention that he didnt think he was going to make it. He never thought he wasnt going to passed.
I'm glad I found this because you can never believe what you read hear on the radio or none of these rock magazines so I am really happy I got to see this I lost 5 really close friends in 1yr at separate times I celebrate their lives every day even still talk to them cause I don't have any close friends anymore can't go threw that again. thanks for sharing this who ever may have put this up.
how cool must that have been for that kid? I would've been so nervous to ask for a handshake and he got a very unique interaction with Gene out of it for all to see. Very cool
The more footage I see of Gene, the more he comes across as a really cool fella. All i ever used to hear was how he was an arsehole to people, but in all honesty, Im starting to wonder was it really Paul who was the biggest jerk...
People hate him cause he fuck way more chicks and have more money than us... and so what? He give us kiss... and they are plenty of chicks out there 😂😂😂
He may be saying all the right things, but it wasn't really a classy move on their part to get the new replacement drummer, Eric Singer in the band and do an album while the poor guy was battling cancer. They could've put things on hold and done the Revenge album after. Eric Carr was devastated when they told him they were getting another guy to 'temporarily' replace him. Eric's family's displeasure was evident at the funeral.
I met Eric Carr when he first joined KISS; he had to be THE NICEST person I ever met. I was crushed when he died.

@@gmansgnarlyscienceshow2820 You're right! I'd forgotten about that. I saw the footage that you referred to, and yes, he sure could play guitar.
One of their best songs.
A truly likeable Gene. Totally out of character.
I met Gene in 02. We had a very intense half hour talk about music and life. This is what he was like with me. Very cool, down to earth and real. As I was with him.
I actually think this is his true character. I believe the egotistical jerk persona is nothing but an act.
It was Eric's time.just think of what he left behind in 41 years and the effect and influence he had on people.July 25 1980 N.Y. Palladium.Erics first show with kiss.He did a drum solo that still resonates in my head !!! He also had that rasp singing Black Diamand.
Vocally, he was as good as Peter Criss, maybe even better! Drumming-wise? It ain't even close! Eric Carr beats Peter Criss by a BILLION MILES!!!
Gene can be really down to Earth. Seeing this side to him is important....💯🤘🎸
my dad told me as he was passing away.....DO NOT mourn my passing BUT CELEBRATE my life....i have.....much love.....to all that have lost loved ones..
Awwwwwwwww, that was so emotional! Poor Eric Carr.
That moment with Brice at the end was so sweet! They spoke Japanese to eachother! Cool.
I miss Eric Carr in KISS.
R.I.P. Eric.
Gene had a great relationship with Eric unlike Paul. That’s why I believe Gene’s story over Paul’s.
You mean Saint Paul? He acts like his poo doesn't stink, when in fact, his poo stinks even worse than Gene's...and that's a stretch!
i was too young to know eric carrs music with kiss but for gene simmons I have the upmost respect for him not just as a great musician but a person that cares about his fans cares about his community and cares about who he works with.
As much of a douche Gene can be, he sincerely loved Eric and it shows here❤️
Eric Carr was the Best Drummer Kiss Ever Had !!!
Eric was as down to Earth as rock stars get. Period.
crazy how genes "story" is completely at odds from pauls who was like 'no way we thought he would die!"
I don't believe either of them completely. But I think Paul's account is probably closer to the truth, and at least he expressed regret over the way they treated Eric in his final months.
2 different time frames referenced
Listen to the audio from Paul's book. Paul alleged that Eric refused to speak to them, and so did his family. He claims that they had zero info on Eric and found out he died only from someone the paramedics found in his rolodex at home.
As they say, somewhere in the middle, the truth lies.
But in Paul's book he said that Eric's family basically wrote them off after Eric passed. Paul says he now knows why, and he wishes he could do it differently
This is not Eric's funeral...he's just explaining what happened
mooch514 the whole world knows that
@@benn_bazaa you had some smartasses saying gene was promoting his basses at carr's funeral. Not everyone is awake in life!
Thank you Gene for keepin' real.
There are folks out there that don't truly know the whole story.
They need to see this from the lion's 'tongue'.
Truth be told, Gene and Paul loved Eric. Rest In Peace Eric. We miss you deeply.
Rest In Peace Eric Carr. You’ll always be loved and remembered by everyone and me. Thank for everything you do. :(
Love this band.....love its music and love the members.
R...I...P .....ERIC We will all miss you..
Gene is a good man. You can say things about him but who of us are perfect ? We all are human. Gene and Eric and Paul are good guys. They worked hard and against the odds because successful. Who can fault them for that . Nobody. God bless
The only time I heard of Eric Carr.s Name was during the Lick It Up & Animalize. As well the Hot In The Shade Album
I recently watched the Eric Carr story and was blown away by his personality and love all who knew him felt for the guy. I really would liked to have met him and seen him perform.
Eric carr was a legend because of his heart cancer he died. But theres one eric carr left, emc productions
Chaim Witz, he lives and dies for gold and silver !
You hear about Eric Carr and you complain you how bad life is going?!? Puts life in perspective.
R.I.P eric carr, he was truly such a kind and wonderful human being that didn't deserve such a fate, may his soul live on.
Fired is too harsh of a word
I saw kiss with Eric Carr at one of his last shows at alpine valley, hot in the shade tour .
Does anyone else find it strange that Eric Carr and Freddie Mercury died on the same day . November 24, 1991
Strange in what way?
2 legends, 1 day. Very sad.
@@puppaman well then there is 365 days and 366. days in a leap year so its very low odds that you'll die on the same day, almost impossible but it happened that's why it's strange think about it
I`d call it a sad coincidence or something. "Strange" sounds like something paranormal :)
gene is such a good so is paul god bless both of them i love them i lost my great aunt from stomach cancer i miss her very much she had two to three weeks left to live she didn't make though one week she passed away right before Christmas i miss her 😔
that is a very different story then Paul's story !
Michael Skewes I KNOW!! ..I just wrote a long comment on that very thing.
@@jimmykrackkorn4347 I'm thinking Paul was telling the truth.
every once in a while Gene shows real class, this is one of those times. Thanks so much for posting.
I've never seen Gene this soft spoken. He and the guys must really miss Eric. :(
God bless Gene, and paul, ace eric , peter. etc...we love you KISS!!
+Marty L. ALL of KISS. not just the originals.
Gene Simmons has a kind soul.
RESPECT. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are proper.
R.i.p Eric you'll always be missed
Paul and Gene did him dirty.
Gene is a gentleman above the level of being a great friend and human to his family and friends
I actually knew Eric's parents for a short while after he passed. They were really nice people...
This is a nice side of Gene Simmons, people who hate him should watch this video.
What a personality, huge charisma!!
So tell me Gene why didn't you or Paul appear in Eric's video Tale Of The Fox?
Eric did not die in vain.
Gene is a fantastic and great guy. Rip Eric Carr (!) We miss u, Eric.
elcaminodelrey why does everyone rag on Gene? everyone looks at him like he is a Jew. well, he is Jewish and was bought up to respect money and work. after he bought home his first 10 billion check, his mother said , what is next. he and Paul kept the band rich so you don't hear them crying.
Gene seemed genuinely affected by Eric's passing and I believe it to be true. God rest and thanks Gene for sharing this.
+theshadowboxer Eric was like a brother to Gene.
God bless Eric gene did him a great tribute here
2:00 he said paul n him knew he wasnt going to make it but paul mention that he didnt think he was going to make it.
I recorded and put it up, and I'm glad it found you.
Gene doesn't mention how he tried to vacate Eric's company insurance.
how cool must that have been for that kid? I would've been so nervous to ask for a handshake and he got a very unique interaction with Gene out of it for all to see. Very cool
Very nice tribute to Eric, Mr. Gene Simmons.
Gene is a great man.
Thanks for sharing. Eric is missed...
Thanks for sharing
In Paul's words he expected Eric to recover and never considered he'd die, so which is it?
The truth is they were ready to move on either way and it's all about BUSINE$$.
@@bobshenix well, you gotta move on, with this kind of situation it’s either move on or quit.
@@luvittodeath7031 Not really... a short hiatus is something bands do from time to time, even in the absence of major tragedies.
I think that here, Gene was being realistic. Too bad that Paul couldn't pull his head out of the proverbial sand, and do the same thing!
Eric Carr is good drumman
+JenonCz Let'sPlays was...
He give us kiss... and they are plenty of chicks out there 😂😂😂
Best years of KISS Eric was fenomenal on drums, one of the world's best.
Today was the anniversary of Eric's passing.
Thanks for posting this. RIP Eric Carr.
The best rock drummer since Bonham imo he was great
Eric Carr was the best drummer Kiss had, in my opinion.
RIP Eric Carr
Gene’s sincere here.
Do you have a video of the whole Q&A? My iphone ran out of memory and there's a part of the video that would mean the world to me to get a hold of.
I read he was also bald from chemo and wore a wig in that video. Fought like a champion right to the end.
this is why i love gene
