After a lot of repeated listening, I think there are a few things these lyrics have wrong. To begin new thinking, wandering wide -> To begin new thinking, wandering mind (While the voices are a distorted, making it hard to hear, the song is about knowledge not adventure, so a wandering mind seems much more appropriate) Power unto this stone we shall pray -> Power unto this stone we shall bind (Refering to white auracite and the crystals that the Ancients used to store information, we bind things to them not pray) Black-bound infinite, mocking time -> Black-bound demon, mocking time (The first chorus is distorted on the word "demon" but the second chorus with the less metal sounding voice is clearly not saying "infinite". Additionally Abyssos has demons as a theme, such as the gate song "Where Dæmons Abide". Thirdly, in literature dealing with demons and acquiring knowledge from them it's a common theme to bind them.) Shadows shifting, and we die -> Shadow shifting pa-ra-digm (A paradigm shift is a fundamental change in approach or underlying assumptions; something that would occur after having gained knowledge from a demon.)
I love how this is recommended to me in October as Halloween draws near. As the visual image of some helpless guy suddenly becomes a mega mutated abomination from Silent Hill. Stunning.
@@kalmage136 Short version: In the past before the Ascians were Ascians, Lahabrea's wife Athena turned out to be no bueno, and so he cut away the part of his soul and mind that would be tempted by her ambissions and sealed it away. This became Hephaistos, the fugly dude you see at the start of this video, who is trying to find a wonky way to resurrect Athena. He broke free of his fetters and took control of the prison and research facility known as Pandaemonium, using the former researchers as test subjects for his goals. This wonky-ass transformation we see here is exclusive to Savage, and so not canon, albeit it is based on an actual ability ancient Ascians possessed to 'Transform' themselves using a fuckton of Aether, allowing them to do things they normally couldn't. It is typically viewed as a taboo to do this, though - not that Hephaitstos cares. Hephaistos does absolutely shapeshift into a weird Ultima Weapon looking squidge monster and a buff dude with a snake coming out of his spine over the course of the normal fight, though. It is all quite distressing.

Ahh now this makes sense Hephaistos in Greek Mythology is supposed to be hideous and crooked. He is also the Smith of the gods, a god that knows how to forge with Fire.
The song title reminds me of one of the processes to make a philosopher stone in ancient alchemy. The white stone mixed with the black stone to creat the red stone, the perfect material. The magnum opus. Which also reminds me of red mage and itçs mix of white and black magic to make, well, red magic
Likely is a reference to what you're talking about, given the main story of this non Canon version of the fight is Hephaistos trying to create a perfect phoenix to revive Athena, and you end up creating it during High Concept 2, reviving you from death.
Apparently the title is a literal translation of the Japanese term for the "White Auracite". Said white auracite being translated as "the Heart of Sabik" in the English localization.

Gotta give it to Soken for this. I don't listen to this genre of music but I can say this is my favourite track for this tier.
I swear I hear "now you've really crossed the line" somewhere in here. DMC3 vibes.
Awesome that it includes the transition. So crazy
A Resident Evil boss with Devil May Cry music. I didn't realize there was another Capcom collab
They really gave him a Birkin eyeball and didn't make it targetable, huh? Missed opportunity lol
Yoshida: so the idea of this savage fight is Hephaistos going berserk in how much he misses Athena and figuring out how to create Phoenix for the first time.
Soken: okay, cool
Yoshida: and this is what the design looks like
Soken:

Soken: I have the perfect fucking idea for a beat.
I love this OST and boss....very Lovecraftian......love the Lovecraft stories and Old Gods/entities......and this song go SO WELL with him
Gives me Jenova vibes which is heavily inspired by Lovecraft!
Just got here with my static late into the tier (so happy) and while I read up on mechanics, I didn't spoil the transition or music until we all got there. Such a banger and an awesome track to wrap up the tier with!
the bass beat is almost like a heart beat.
Surprised how not many people point this out - especially on certain headphones where it really starts sounding like it's pounding heavily.
It’s a shame a lot of players who don’t do savage may never even know this track exists.
Eh, I wouldn't be so sure.
Especially since its Orchestrion Roll exists _and_ can be bought off the Market Board.

One of the best battle OST, I love it so much :D
This quickly went from Final Fantasy to Resident Evil
Hephaistos straight up became Birkin
Jenova type stuff immediately springs to mind.
It was awesome hearing the PRIMALS rendition with Koji at the vocals at the FanFest. Very awesome! It was one of those neat surprises. :)
If I heard this without knowing it was FFXIV, I would think it came from Devil May Cry.
According to RUclips recap this was the song/video I listened to the most :D
So true bestie!

Love can be ugly.
0:26-0:37 is super underrated and should be longer in the track
"Mom can we get William Birkin?"
"No, we have William Birkin in FF XIV."
*William Birkin in FF XIV*
I get a bit of a Parasite Eve meets DMC vibe from this theme, love every minute of it.
That's what I was thinking. Kinda reminded me of the Ultimate Being music from PE1
Thanks for including the transition! Banger music once again by soken!
It has been 1 year since this game peaked.
3:01, why hello there Hello, World.
i was thinking the exact same thing. I wonder if we'll have a goodbye world-like strat in 7.0
@@carlos-zy7vx Arena has a death barrier instead of a cliff. Plus you actually need the debuffs to survive the false enrage. So everyone has to be up and at em, plus Healer LB3 will revive inside the barrier and just, kill again.
@@carlos-zy7vx you cant goodbye world it. You need certain elements to solve the tower mechanics
I cant be the only one that thought this bosses design is something straight outta Soul Sacrifice and thats pretty kickass.
This was such a treat for prog. I'd avoided listening to it before my static hit phase 2 for the first time and I'm glad I did. Loved it far more than P4S P2.
Also the 1% nerf to health is the specific reason we cleared, we run 2 casters 2 melee, and got our first kill while enrage went off. Two people died to the enrage cast and we killed it as it faded out.
You know it just occurred to me while I was high this song is actually really good on loop for prog since it’s like a lofi with a good upbeat so you won’t get to tired from it

You gotta imagine that they had a LOT of fun designing that giant pile of whattheactualfuckery we fought in Savage mode.

😮oh shit, as someone who played ffxiv at this tier and play mtg now, I see it!
This has Takafumi Imamura all over it, I'd be absolutely surprised if this song wasn't by him. Also those secondary vocals are 100% Shootie HG, he has worked on a bunch of FF games going back to XIII-2 Crazy Chocobo. Also did some DMC.
My guess for the vocals is Koji
@@RonoroaDSanji Sorry, I didn't mean the main vocals. There's another singer that you hear further into the background at times. I meant to originally clarify that but obviously forgot to type it. Go to 4:00. You can hear the main vocals in the front, but there's Shootie style singing behind it.

@@Gravijahz Those sound very Koji-like actually. I know Shootie HG has that style but considering Soken shared on Twitter an image of them recording Scream in the studio with Koji there in the photo too I wouldn't be surprised it is because they had him there to do White Stone Black (though it could also just be because he was directing the singer because English lyrics).
Is it wrong to refer to High Concept 2 as "Build-a-Bird Workshop"?
This track bangs so damn hard.
Lyrics to the song:
Silence born into violence

Silence leads to violence
Violence swearing to silence
Clutch almighty, hold on tight
To begin new thinking, wandering mind
Memory slowly, blinding white
Power unto this stone we shall pray
Black-bound infinite, mocking time
When the sun rose up, do we long for the night
Shadows shifting, and we die
To the land behind, we pay no mind
Clutch almighty, hold on tight

Power unto this stone we shall pray
Black-bound infinite, mocking time
When the sun rose up, do we long for the night
Shadows shifting, and we die
To the land behind, we pay no mind
Clutch almighty, hold on tight
To begin new thinking, wandering wide

Power unto this stone we shall pray
Black-bound infinite, mocking time
When the sun rose up, do we long for the night
Shadows shifting, and we die
To the land behind, we pay no mind
Clutch almighty, hold on tight
To begin new thinking, wandering wide

Power unto this stone we shall pray
Silence
Violence
Silence

Black-bound infinite, mocking time
When the sun rose up, do we long for the night
Shadows shifting, and we die
To the land behind, we pay no mind
After a lot of repeated listening, I think there are a few things these lyrics have wrong.
To begin new thinking, wandering wide -> To begin new thinking, wandering mind (While the voices are a distorted, making it hard to hear, the song is about knowledge not adventure, so a wandering mind seems much more appropriate)
Power unto this stone we shall pray -> Power unto this stone we shall bind (Refering to white auracite and the crystals that the Ancients used to store information, we bind things to them not pray)
Black-bound infinite, mocking time -> Black-bound demon, mocking time (The first chorus is distorted on the word "demon" but the second chorus with the less metal sounding voice is clearly not saying "infinite". Additionally Abyssos has demons as a theme, such as the gate song "Where Dæmons Abide". Thirdly, in literature dealing with demons and acquiring knowledge from them it's a common theme to bind them.)
Shadows shifting, and we die -> Shadow shifting pa-ra-digm (A paradigm shift is a fundamental change in approach or underlying assumptions; something that would occur after having gained knowledge from a demon.)
What the fuck are these lyrics
Sounds like "power unto crystal we shall pray"
we've now got official lyrics in the captions for the primals cover of it!
This ended up being wildly different from what the official lyrics were. But I'm not gonna lie, these lines were still absolute fire.

Not really helpless, since he underwent that transformation willingly, insofar as I can tell.
@@Skijaramaz oh okay, yeah I don’t play ffxiv anymore so I really have no idea on the backstories of these new raid bosses.

Me again. I just realized that this is less a fight and more just weaponized alchemy lol
You put this song on any FFXVI combo clip and it wouldnt be out of place at all
I love the Frontline Assembly vibes in this song

Ego Death is his enrage cast. Theres literally no way to survive besides rebirth. Its wicked fucking cool.

Shit like this is why i think ff16 is going to have a second act breakdown where the entire world just starts breaking apart once the revenge plot wraps up in a too clean bow. YoshiP seems intent on really driving home what he started in shadowbringers with the sin eater transformation and just how screwed up the situation was in the Thavnair dungeon. And given how much he wants it to be a mature rating were going to see just how much theyre going to push absolutely screwed up character designs like this.
Especially since he clarified it's rated M for the "story he wants to tell", not just for nudity/gore
If the game is full of this, I’m gonna have to grab a copy!
