  • As many of you may know, my mechanic John has one of the most dialed tool box setups in the mountain bike world. Take a look at what makes up this one of a kind tool kit from laser cut foam to custom tools and everything in between!

Great video, really enjoyed it. Impressive to see the level of detail and thought process behind the configuration you run. Thanks for taking the time to run through it all. You're also a really good presenter, would like to see more. 👍

It's awesome that you are not only using expensive tools but are sensible with what you buy depending of your use

As a previous car and airplane mechanic, I have been utilizing tools I have and buying specialized tools as need. When I caught Covid I decided to take tools I use for my bike and make layer tool box. Think I saw a clip of John's box on you tube and it was my inspiration. First I'm just an avid cyclist both MTB and road so I went with a small box (3 layers) for tools only and a catch bag for extra supplies when on the road. Took a lot of time laying out patterns but sooo glad I put in the time.
Wish I had seen this before making my foam cutouts. I think new patterns are need but, it's not that hard when doing it by hand with Kaizen foam.

I am an aircraft tech and this is the level of organization I have tried for years. The box is really well set up and the ideas are great. Going to look into the laser cutter guy.

A real mechanic has their own duometer. Nice setup, just got some Kaizen foam and a surplus pelican case to get my bits and bobs sorted and stored. 👍

I approached my build the same way, but have a separate smaller box for tyre and brake stuff. I completely agree with your addage, if you remove a tool, you will need it.

One does not need to have served in the military to learn how helpful good organisation is. Hospitals and restaurant kitchens rely on good organisation, too. And just hating it when your stuff in not where you expect it to be when you need it is a much more simple reason.

I have a Pelican 1510 that I keep a bleed kit at the bottom of (inside of a smaller 1040 micro case). I've had brake fluid leak from the 4oz container and out of the 1040 case when driving from sea level up to Big Bear... do you ever have issues with the fluids leaking during transportation? I figure that I just need to keep the case oriented correctly to keep the liquids upright.

Allen is actually a brand that produced Hex keys, which is now wrongly used as a generic. It's actually suprising how many "engineers" do not know this.🤣 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allen_(brand)
