Yay, so appreciate this! I’m trying to train mine along a deck railing, but the plant has grown without much pruning for years (just moved here), so this helped me see way to think about it.
I have 2 colours growing together side by side. The purple and a white. And right now in Brisbane Queensland Australia it has the most beautiful huge arches of flowers like a wedding arch to look at, in my neighbours yard 😅. So I saw this yest and said to myself, I will grab those beautiful flower arches and bring them into my yard.I quickly realised I have hours of pruning. Its winter now since June ist. I did actually saw of a big 2 limbs right down, as I saw it as a starting point. Im not sure if I did wrong?
Great tips! This plant reminds me of the one that we had in the house that I grew up in. It was massive and grew up the wall and way over the front of our house. It was a beautiful deep burgundy pink. I miss that plant. :)
Poor camera person getting smacked with the pruning process.. 😅 I love this pruning video. I find it oddly satisfying.. I can't wait to see mine grow. So forsure, no water than is the tip?
Oh yes Wilfred, I was waiting for the weather to cool a bit. Here's my bougainvillea: ruclips.net/video/8njIw9C-B2M/видео.html & my rose: ruclips.net/video/BHY4eRY8Dao/видео.html More coming! Nell
Your Bouganvillea is so BEAUTIFUL, I LOVE the color of those gorgeous blooms :-) thanks so much for sharing Nell and sending you heaps of love and tons of happy growing from Ireland and have a FANTASTIC day XXXXXX
Hey Mam!! Such a beautifull lively plant I have ever seen & its dazzling colour as well!! Do you know which variety is it?? If I am not wrong, Bougainvillea Brasiliensis. & its colour should be deep purple. Please confirm the variety! 🙏 I want to plant in my front yeard just like this variety of yours?? And another question plz, does it bloom all the year round?? God bless you, my dear!
Thanks for sharing this this video with us! Did this particular bougainvillea by your garage start out as a container transplant from Home Depot or Lowe's by chance? And how many years did it take for it to come to this glorious colorful color? We're thinking of doing the same thing!
My pleasure! +Sylvia Catalano When I bought the house 11 years ago, this bougainvillea was already planted. It's at least 20 years old. I didn't even realize it was a bougainvillea when I 1st saw the house because it was trained to go straight up the side of the garage (just like a chimney if you can imagine that) & had no blooms. I trained it this way & I'm not sure where the previous owners bought it. This is Bougainvillea glabra so I hope that helps you to find it in your area! Nell
I wanna grow my bogain villa like this, what is the principle of pruning, do we need to maintain one main stem and cut the branches? Mine is just planted from nursery now i can see many branches from down , dont know what to keep and cut? This plant need any support to grow up ??
I’ve a hugee bougainvillea going up to 2 storeys of the house and also growing in width. It doesn’t flower as much it should. It’s in the ground with pretty hard soil with no room to put in any fertiliser. How to get max blooms?
Hi Nell, I've got a Barbara Karst bougie already planted in the front yard leaning up the garage by garden hose. I'd like to plant a bright "Miami Pink" bougie right next to it. I'm going for an explosion of two colors...the barbra karst RED....and the Miami PINK!! My question to you is: Would the two differing (varieties?) color-kinds inhibit each others growth or anything? Actually, I'm not even really sure what a 'variety" is? hahaha!! Help???
Hi Sylvia - You'll get an explosion of color with those 2, that's for sure! Miami Pink & Barbara Karst are both vigorous & fast growing bougainvilleas which can reach at less 20'. They won't inhibit each other's growth but be sure to not plant them too close together. You want at least 8-12' between the 2 bougies when planting. Hope that helps! Nell
Hi, I had a beautiful bright red one growing up over my house, but cut it down as I was afraid the root might destroy my house, should I not worry about that?

I live in Florida and have been using your methods on my bougainvillea. Mine are doing very well. Thank you for your excellent advice!

I have the similar color
I would like this as a privacy hedge it needs to be about 6 feet high, and it would not be near a wall or tree. Is this possible?
