The problem with speed enforcement in the UK is how dispassionate the police are in this day and age. I miss the days where the police used to take in the totality of the circumstances before deciding to nick you.
For example in the mid 80’s I was caught doing 114 in a 70 on an RD400E. The officer said “I saw you look over your shoulder, and there was no traffic and you took off.” He let me off, what a relief. Today I’d probably be in prison when a violent offender would get a slap on the wrist. I’m glad I don’t live in the UK anymore.

I've represented myself in court twice now for being naughty on bikes (twice in over 20 years riding). I'd recommend it, both my cases were really well received by the judges and getting the chance to honestly hold my hands up, accept full accountability and negotiate my punishment directly with the law... was seen as a breath of fresh air by the procurator fiscal and I got very light and fair penalty both times. Lawyers are utter bullshit merchants and I wouldn't trust one to represent me. The judge was amused at that one. Weaseling your way out of a situation with a lawyer is a waste of money and an insult to a judge's intelligence. They appreciated the way I did it and my cop mates pissed themself at how lightly I was punished and how small my fines were!

I got caught doing just over 90mph on a 60mph road just after lockdown ended. I was on a Ninja1000 and literally just gave it a handful to overtake a car doing 50mph. The police pulled me over and I was told I would receive a court summons. I received a letter from the court but due to covid they were trying to deal with things out of court as much as possible and offered me 3 points and £100 fixed penalty. I was very lucky.

Same thing here ! I was on way home on my Monster 1200R after visiting my Ma for a chat through the window of her care home 😢
On the way back I passed an old red Corsa on the back road . Stopped at my mates wee workshop in the village , and a female and male cop approached me .
The guy said “ Are you ok?” I said yea fine why ?
He said I’d passed them rather quickly on the brow of the road and was going a bit too fast !
I told him about my visit , and politely pointed out that my heads probably 3ft above his so I can see further ahead .

Was anyone adversely effected by you speeding through time ? Still NO? Was there a victim when you were speeding through time ? NO. How can speeding be a crime with no victim? I had a similar thing happen to me. I was working through lockdown in the city of London, and I commute on my bike 14 miles to work every day. I got caught down 38mph in 20mph zone, (Which used to be a 30mph zone). I haven't had any points on my licence since 1997. The cop that caught me with a speed gun hiding behind a tree, was determined to prosecute me for it, even though there was nothing on the road. I ended up getting 5 points and a £350 fine. I regularly see police vehicles speeding in these zones while not in a emergency. Seems like there's one rule for us and another for them?

You were caught fair and square but the speed limits in the U.K. are no longer realistic, add to that how they vary speed limits (not variable speed limits on motorways) on ordinary country A roads in short distances. It’s all designed to catch you out unless you spend the vast majority of your time looking at your speedo and not the road, and the latest revenue raising tactic - drones that fly overhead spying on you so ground units can home in and raise even more revenue ka - ching🤬
Spend money repairing the roads (they’re lethal), patrolling roads with human beings to catch out poor driving / riding , and let’s be realistic about speed limits (never going to happenI know but some of them are absurd i.e. 50 mph on motorways to reduce pollution do me a favour). The state is becoming more and more restrictive, and we’re being asked to just rollover, accept & swallow.

The speed limits were set at a time before driver aids; better road surfaces, tyres etc. I think they should be revised. I'd like to see a national motorway limit of 125mph, I think that's plenty. The police really should focus their efforts on solving crime and not simply using the motorist as a cash cow.

Story from over here in Switzerland, couple of years back. There were road works between our local town and Berne, bit like a B road. Normal speed limit is set at 60kph and due to said road works, it was reduced to 30kph. I went through on a Saturday afternoon (of course, no work being done, road open), doing 45kph (shock, horror, 28mph) and was caught by a mobile radar. Because it was 15kph over the limit within an urban area, the fine was 650CHF + about 250CHF admin fees (about £810 altogether). I could either pay or go to jail for 3 days 😟.

@BikesofRye Just discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying the vids. This one struck a chord with me as it's so similar to me and my brother getting done about 20 odd years ago. We got done for 100.9mph in a 60mph limit. There was not a thing on the road and we were in the middle of nowhere. Like you, I didn't try and wriggle out of it or make excuses; I was on my relatively new R6, I was young (and daft) and just wanted to open it up, but there was a copper in an unmarked car hiding up a dirt track and, well, he got us. It was part of a targeted programme by the police to catch speeding bikers.
We had go to court on different days and we both represented ourselves (a solicitor even said it was a waste of money to pay for representation). I got a 2 month ban and £300 fine (this was in 2000 remember) and my brother got 6 points and a £300 fine. So what did I learn from it? A few things: 1) don't ride like dick or be prepared to take a punishment, 2) the law isn't consistent, we got done by the same cop for the same offence at the same time but got different punishments, 3) and this is the one that sticks in my throat, when I watch things like Traffic Cops on the TV I consistently see people riding/driving with no licence, no insurance, while disqualified etc etc who get less of a penalty in 2024 than we got is 2000. Speed is regarded as evil, regardless of whether it was done safely, and is the main 'crime' that most law abiding normal people will get done for. So be careful!!!

@@BikesofRye I got away with doing a speed awareness course as it was "minor speeding". Really annoying as I remember the day vividly, I just blipped the throttle gently in boredom and the copper must have just been waiting for me to do something stupid as it was a brief moment. I'm grateful I have not been caught in the act of a spirited ride on B-Roads though as I don't think I would have got off as lightly.
Nowadays I just go and track my bikes and get my speed out there, way more fun and makes riding fast on roads a bit less inticing 😎.

I've been in court 3 times for motoring offences (none for 30 years though lol). unless you are really brewstered you should realise you are going to get done and can't do anything about it, so all arguing and excuses are going to do is antagonise them, they have heard it all a million times before, so unless you have a real need, dont waste money on a solicitor, it won't do you any good at all. Your penalty for speeding was nothing! About 2011/12 I was clocked by the police doing 127mph in a 60mph zone. When I went to court, I got a 2 yr ban, 180hrs community service, had to see a social worker for 6 months, and I had to do an extended resit of my test! After a stint at the community service and a few visits to the s/w, I told them all to fuck off! 8 months later, I had to go back to court. I was offered the chance of completing the comm. service and s/w appointments, or receive a custodial sentence. I chose the latter, and went to prison for 5 weeks, getting out 2 weeks early, and had to wear an electronic tag for the remaining 2 weeks of my sentence. If I had to do it again, I would do it exactly as the first time! 6 points and a fine? Fuck all! You’re lucky dude.

Such an honest and down to earth video by a bike lover like myself. I have subscribed a while back.
I have a number of comments to add:
I have been driving/riding bikes since 1979 (yes I am not a young man), and in that time have had 3 speeding offences (all in a car though). However, it is almost impossible on today's roads to keep track of speed limits (they go up and down so much), and I also like to keep an eye on the road, NOT the speedometer.
I do, yes I do, try to keep to speed limits, but it is easier said than done when on the wrong side of the road overtaking, especially on a bike (I ride a BMWR1250R). If I am over the limit after the overtake, I slow down, I will not share what speeds I have been at, but like your bike, my bike can pull 100 mph very quickly, it has so much torque.
One other point, I ride in sport (dynamic) mode all the time, even in the wet. The only big thing I notice is I do not have to turn the throttle so much, which is kind on the the wrist. Once you know your bike, as I am sure you do, you use the throttle responsibly, even in the wet, I do not have issues.
A final point, is I have never comes to terms with everything the TFT offers, however I am due a service (booked in next week), 1500 miles under the 6000 miles, but 3 weeks over a year. The TFT is rendered useless by a 'big service due ' screen', which will not respond to input, and I have searched the internet how to turn it off. Pardon my french, but it really pisses me off.
PS. Your blackbird project is an inspiration.
PPS. One final point to test the patience. Lockdown was evil for so many like yourself. When lone dog walkers or joggers or riders were penalised by the police it was an easy catch, and I never saw them as a threat, but when big demonstrations (such as BLM, and I am not against BLM), which were a brewery for the virus, went unchecked, the bigotry was nauseating. You were not a threat to anyone being out alone on your bike.

I understand your opinion that you are not a threat to anyone while out there riding by yourself, but what if you came off the bike?. Then you have the Police, the Ambulance staff, the people in the Emergency department and the ward (if you are admitted), the Radiographers and surgical team if you need an operation etc. While we have put all of this behind us now, it still doesn't hurt to think of how many people can be effected by your own actions, and of course the effect this could have on the people who love and care about you. I came off my bike and spent time in hospital and TBH the hardest part was having my 5 year old son coming in to visit and wanting to know when I was coming home, it was absolutely heartbreaking. Stay safe.

And the Police were monitoring speeds at the start of that section.
I had checked my speed as I saw the police officer, and thought I was ok!
Ended up with a probable ban as double the speed limit is automatic ban, where 50-60mph is ban or points at Magistrate discretion.
