I was looking at Betelgeuse the other day and started pondering all my ancestors who would have seen it too, then wondering how long my descendants would, then it occurred to me that since we see the moon flipped here in NZ compared to how it looks in the northern hemisphere, the constellations presumably are upside down too and Betelgeuse must be meant to be at the top of Orion, not the bottom. So I downloaded one of those sky map apps and sure enough the pictured figures overlaying the constellations are all upside down here. There were legs and feet sticking up from the horizon in all directions and one poor fellow had his head buried.

We should have a pretty good idea of what flies in our skies. Yet we have these recurring events where we see things we can't identify, that seem to be exhibiting signs of intelligence. Governments are saying its nothing don't worry about it, then we find out they have been investigating these things for decades, they have tons of classified material on these that we aren't allowed to see, and the skeptics are telling us to just believe what they are saying in spite if the fact they admit to be withholding data from the public.
It's clear we can't solely rely on them to tell us the truth, we have to collect the data ourselves.

I remember deliberately seeking out when the ISS was going to pass over about a decade ago. Watching it for the first time, it looked spectacular, much larger than I thought it would be. That's another line to question flerfdom - how can an object be predicted in its orbit around the earth with such accuracy. Plus it was silent, so it wasn't a plane, which would be their counterargument.

So once you identified an UFO as a planet it is no UFO anymore, because you now know it is a planet. Calling it UAO, unidentified atmospheric object would also not work, because planets are then also not in our atmosphere, neither is the ISS. Agreed. I've seen (and photographed) many iridium flares and the just don't last that long. However, My hometown (which I visit many times a year to see my family and friends) is under multiple flight paths and on a clear day you can see aircraft at high altitudes flying at speed and that is what it is. You also have to remember that when zoomed in on an object it can make it look like it's going faster than it is. I'm absolutely certain it's an aircraft! It's certainly not an iridium flare.

Interesting. Because my phone number goes out on national radio weekly (as guest on an astronomy radio program in South Africa), I get sent many "UFO"-videos. I mostly manage to turn them into IFOs (Identified Flying Objects) like you are doing here. I agree mostly with your findings, except for the middle one which is definitely not an Iridium fare. In the days when they were a thing (you probably know the current generation Irdiums do not flash any more), I observed and photographed them very often. The flash never lasted more then 15 seconds - I know this because the aim&shoot camera I used back in the day, could only expose for 15 seconds max and it was quite a art to time it right to get the full flash nicely inside the 15 seconds. The last one does seem to move and my guess would be the landing lights of a far-off airplane - something often generating UFO sightings, particularly when flying straight at the observer - initially it seems stationary, and the start moving quicker as it gets closer.

I agree with all of them but the last one. If you compare it's location to the tree branches on the left, at the end, it's much closer to them than it was at the beginning. The footsteps we hear sound like someone else walking up next to the person holding the camera. The way the camera moves doesn't feel like the person holding the camera ever moves. The building and branches don't get any bigger in the frame except when they zoom. When you're zoomed in that far, it's hard to hold the camera still. So there's a lot of shake, then someone walks up next to the camera person, and then the light is closer to the branches. Because of how low it is on the horizon, I think the last one is a Starlink flare. It checks all the boxes for a single Starlink flare. Mick West has made an extremely good bit of content showing how people mistake bright lights low on the horizon for UFOs when they're just Starlink flares. You can get a single flare. They don't have to be in a train. And everything else checks out. If we knew the exact position of the observer, we could prove it. If I'm wrong about the camera person not moving, then yeah, I agree it's Venus. If I'm right, then Starlink flare.
Otherwise, this was awesome. Nice job.

    • @wallyman292
      @wallyman292 6 месяцев назад

Nah. The guy is definitely walking to his left in that last one towards the end of the clip, making it appear as if the light is doing the same in relation to the branches. You can tell by watching the branches in relation to the rooftop in the frame. Also, Dan's theory of an Iridium flare doesn't hold water. Those only last for a second or 2 at the very most. This light remains "bright" for way too long to qualify as a flare.

Cellphones aren’t ideal for filming sky objects due to hardware limitations, resulting in low-resolution videos with compression artifacts. People often zoom in and out all the time because they don't know how to film with a camera, that's why they always play with it: zoom in, zoom out all the time, which is really annoying and doesn’t help.
It’s better to record first, then zoom in gradually, keeping the subject in focus and minimizing hand movements. With low resolution, it’s hard to discern the shape of the object. All we usually see is a bright dot. Many people overlook possibilities like satellites, space stations, or planets, perhaps due to a lack of knowledge about these things.
People often gravitate towards RUclips videos about UFOs and strange phenomena, which are abundant and designed to attract views and revenue rather than provide real explanations. For many, the allure lies in the mystery and entertainment value, not in understanding the truth. They’re content with affirming their beliefs rather than seeking factual explanations. Ideally, one should research and ask experts in the field to gain accurate knowledge.
The issue today is that people tend to make assumptions rather than ask questions, leading to misinformation, especially with such RUclips videos.

In the earliest days of RUclips there was an American gent that live streamed the moon at night. He used to get all excited about the fleets of dark UFO’s that were passing across the face of the moon in irregular v-shape formations…. 😂

The Iridium satellites are all gone now I think. They retired them a few years ago and have replaced them with very boring non flaring ones. The old ones have been falling back to Earth...

I mean,.... to be fair, if "only real ufos" actually only allowed posts of truly unidentified flying objects, it'd be a pretty quiet place :P

The 'U' in ufo is significant but often ignored. UNIDENTIFIED doesn't mean Aliens. It means unidentified.

On the last one, you could hear what sounded like the person walking so they were likely walking with the camera which caused the shakiness and made it look like the object was moving.

I was walking through the local park a few years ago, when I caught a brief glimpse of a UFO moving very quickly. Almost immediately, I experienced severe pain in my right temple. The UFO was later identified as "Rawlings."

I stood outside, filming the ISS flying over my house around 0.30 on may 25th, couple of years ago. As I stood in the street, in my pyjama's and with a towel over my shoulder, a police car drove up and the officer asked me if I had been drinking. I explained what I was doing and the policemen were elated at being pointed out the ISS as we spoke.
I didn't inform them I was carrying a towel in honour of Douglas Adams, author of the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, whose works are celebrated annually.
    On may the 25th.

The second could be an aeroplane coming head on. They can seem to be dead still for a very long time. I remember a work colleague calling me out to look at a ‘UFO’ many years ago, and that was a plane. Just took forever to get close enough to detect movement.
