  • Jimmy Johnson joins The Herd to tell Colin Cowherd what's so special about Patrick Mahomes, and when he knew that we were looking at a rare talent in the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback. He also tells Colin about the odds of the Chiefs earning a 3-peat with a Super Bowl win next season, and relives his own Super Bowl days in Dallas with the Cowboys. They also talk Jim Harbaugh, and what impact they believe he'll make on the Los Angeles Chargers next season.

      Great comment. But I would Remix it and say Mahomes has the type of career people act like Aaron Rodgers has had. Rodgers would get called the most Talented QB in the league year after year. And he played along side Tom Brady and Peyton Manning In there primes

    • @ejomena808
      @ejomena808 3 месяца назад +12

      Nailed it. Early career Rodgers was the first modern QB to have all of those accurate passer/scrambler technique.. It's just that the Packers did a poor job of keeping a somewhat consistent defense around him after Woodson, Peppers, and co. left the Packers

    • @ejomena808
      @ejomena808 3 месяца назад +2

      @Theb0YWh0lived1 it's likely based off of stats.. if you compare the individual stats. You'd see that Rodgers only had double digit INT seasons maybe twice in his entire career. And a lot of those seasons was were 4, 6 INTs. All the while throwing a ton of TDs.

      Niners signed Bryan Hoyer in March 2017. They had the #3 pick. In April they drafted DE Solomon Thomas at 3. Chiefs moved up to 10 and took Mahomes. Media meatheads never focus on this. Shanahan and Lynch thought Hoyer was better than Mahomes. Basically Shanahan lost the SB in the 2017 draft.

    I was cautiously optimistic about Mahomes from day one. But after actually seeing him in a game, I knew he was special. In that meaningless game at the end of the year against the broncos his rookie season, there were a couple of throws where he's scrambling to the sidelines, and you're thinking "throw it away, throw it away" and he does the cardinal sin of throwing back across field...and he made it work. Both times. Could tell real quick he had a special arm, and an uncanny ability to make things happen when it seems hopeless.

And it's come to fruition tenfold this season, for not only the man he drafted, but for the coach who skeptics always said was a "loser" and "could never win the big one." It was a lot of he has Hunt , Hill, Kelce , Watkins, Alex Smith had number 1 QBR in the league the year before. Stuff like that. a lot of analyst didn’t like Andy Reid taking him. If you go back and watch draft videos it was a lot of “they should have took Desean Watson” and “they have Pro bowler Alex Smith, they should have got him help” the only guy that was really on it right away was Nick Wright of course. No one is bringing up the Overtime decision based on how gassed the defenses were, neither were going to stop the other team from going down to the red zone at least. Of course it would make more sense to go 2nd and go for 2 if the first team got a TD.

    Revisionist nonsense unless you show us the audio or video clip of you Or Jimmy or any other analyst telling us that prior to his draft Mahomes was going to be a superstar! Everyone is now just jumping on the bandwagon. (Except Kansas City of course)

    The glazing by Colin to protect Shanahan is crazy. There’s audio that shows the Chiefs knew the OT rules and audio that the 49ers defense knew the rules(Wilks told his guys and Shanahan dropped the ball), and there’s audio that the 49ers offense didn’t know.(49ers held chiefs to 19 in regulation when the last time they got 31 hung on their heads, the offense and special teams were to blame. Shanahan and Special teams coach should have been fired. Shanahan continues to show he can’t cut in the biggest game. Time for a change)

    Sometimes, the "I want a raise" syndrome after back-to-back championships takes the form of assistant coaches getting more money by taking jobs elsewhere. That's what happened to the previous repeat champions, the 2004 Patriots. They had their OC and DC hired away for head coaching positions, and had -- by Brady/Belichick standards -- a couple of down years before even returning to the Super Bowl.

    The Niners defense were gassed going into overtime. Kyle might have chosen possession first to give the defense rest, knowing they'd need it. Now giving an extra down to Mahomes is near suicide. But Niners had a chance to win, tie or have a third possession.

    no Jimmy, 20-30 years ago coaches were wayyyyyyyyy too conservative on 4th down. They *did not* know the percentages. Of course, a good coach takes the stats, which come from a large sample size, and apply it appropriately to the opponent that day, the situation etc etc.
