      The nickname Gretzky earned is "The Great One" for a reason lol hockey fans never need to have debates about "who's the GOAT" or "will xyz player catch up and be #1". Probably the reason why the media doesn't really talk hockey; not really any debate conversation to be had. Every answer is always "Gretzky".

      Gretzky is so much farther ahead of anyone ever in terms of team sports. In terms of points, Gretzky is at 2857 and second place is at 1921. That would be like Kareem having 38,387 total points in second place and LeBron being at like 55,000. It's unfathomable how much Gretzky dominated in hockey.

    Since we got the random Gretzky mention, I'm gonna bring up the craziest sports stat that I saw recently. The highest scoring group of brothers in NHL history is the Sutters with 2936 career points. Those came from Brett (829), Brian (636), Ron (535), Duane (342), Rich (315), and Darryl (279). The second highest is the Gretzky brothers at 2861 points. Wayne got 2857, Brent Gretsky got 4.

      The fastest player to get to 1000 points is Wayne Gretzky, who did it in 424 games.

      You need to adjust for how many people play the sport. Being 20% better than the everyone your age group that ever tried to throw a football (ie almost every american in your age group) versus being 50% better than everyone your age group that ever tried ice hockey in the 90s (a few dozen thousand people at best). • @JHockeyFan
      @JHockeyFan 11 месяцев назад +4

      @@BrandonBelliveau-b2t I think it’s because hockey is seen as a very expensive white, usually Canadian, or at least Northerner sport. If you’re not from a hockey family, grow up with friends who like hockey, or in states like Minnesota, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, it’s harder to get into. It’s only mainstream in about 10 of the 50 states.
      I grew up in Northwest Indiana, so hockey wasn’t a big deal since Indiana is a basketball state, and only was exposed to hockey through video games and the Stanley Cup Playoffs on TV. The Blackhawks were a joke and weren’t really on TV, and then when they got good, we started watching playoffs and my mom became a diehard Blackhawks fan. I didn’t get into it hardcore for awhile because no one around me was a big hockey fan. I became hardcore when I was a sophomore in university in Southeast Michigan where hockey is much more mainstream, Red Wings apparel being worn is very common.
      Additionally, hockey isn’t a primarily school based sport because it’s so expensive and most areas don’t publicly fund rinks (Minnesota is the only state that really does), and school based sports are big in the States. NCAA hockey is the most regional niche thing ever, most universities don’t have D1 hockey, making it harder to get into hockey on a grassroots level. Plus, there aren’t many rinks in most of the country: you don’t find ice rinks in most of the poor urban nor rural/small town areas of the States

I mean Terell Davis is better than Frank Gore, and Sterling Sharpe is better than Michael Irvin and Andrew Luck is better than Philip Rivers despite those guys getting injured far more than the other players listed.

    Nice of Nick to enlighten those who don't know much about Gretzky. For what it's worth here's a comparison between Brady and Gretzky, in terms of being a league leader (includes ties).
    Gretzky: Goals 5x
    Assists: 16x
    Points: 11x
    Brady: Passing Yards: 4x
    Touchdown Passes: 5x
    Completion %: 1x

    Only 7 people have won 3 national titles and 2 MVP’s in their first seven seasons. Bill Russell Larry bird Stan Musial Joe DiMaggio Mickey mantle & Guy Lafeur Mahoney basically did it in 6. Can you say 8th wonder of the sports world !!! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

    I love Wildes, but I'm very tired of Pats fans chalking up SB46 to a lucky Manningham catch. Manning had the most GW drives that season, and It was 1st down with 3:45 left, and there was so much precision involved in completing that catch on both ends. It's in a completely different stratosphere than the Tyree catch, in terms of luck

    They need a playmaker like Higgins or mike evans at the wideout. That’s honestly about it and they need to keep jones obviously.
