I visited Poland 6 years in a row (did not make it this year) and the attitudes of the Poles were overwhelmingly to aid Ukraine. The Ukrainians I spoke with (there were at least a million Ukrainians in Poland) all were grateful to the Polish people. They were surprised to learn that most of what they knew of Poland was false propaganda spun by the Russians since the 1790's. They were ashamed of some of the things that happened between 1920 and 1948. My grandmother was born in Lwow (now Lviv) and many Ukrainians told me it was the most beautiful city in Ukraine. The Russians keep telling the Ukrainians and the Bielorussians that Poland is about to invade them to recover their lost lands. Most Poles are surprised than anyone would even think that was possible. The Germans must be completely in LaLaLand. The Russians parade around with "on to Berlin" painted on their vehicles. Whenever I mentioned Germany to Poles, the Polish did not trust them at all. Some Ukrainians were hoping to go to Germany for the freebies they would get but at least as many were holding down jobs in Poland. A Ukrainian doctor told me he could purchase much more as a bricklayers helper in Poland than a doctor in Ukraine. He felt he lived better in Poland but knew he could do a lot better if he decided to stay in Poland and not return to Ukraine. Many of the Ukrainians I saw from back in 2017 were still in Poland in 2023, their kids were attending Polish schools and two couples had purchased homes. I didn't want to ask if they were going back to Ukraine or how things were for their relatives in the old country. Poles love Ireland, Scotland, Denmark, Norway and Finland. No, I have no idea why. They do not trust England, France or Germany to do the right thing. I suppose the Poles are very aware of past history going back to the 1790's and further. They are proud to tell me that the Russians have never defeated Poland in a one on one war. They insist the Russians can only win when allied with two or more other countries. I am fairly cognizant of Polish history, and I think they are correct. I couldn't find any real victories of Russians over Poles that were more than a single battle. I went as far back as the 12th century, when the Pope put French leadership in charge of a Hungarian/Polish army to face the Mongolians. The Poles (having experience and minor successes fighting Mongols) were insistent upon luring them into the forests and not facing them on open steppes where they had superior bows and arrows and were much more able to maneuver in great masses. The Mongolians were not weighted down with the heavy armor of the European Knights. The French strategy prevailed and the Poles and Hungarians suffered a horrendous defeat. Germany and Hungary need to wake up real fast and go into a much more aggressive mode or they will be trying to defend their own borders and begging others for support.
The most beautiful city in Ukraine was and is Odessa... it was imperial capital of Art Nouveau Architecture and a melting pot in every sense. Had Bogdan Khmelnitsky picked Warsaw Slavery vs Moscow Slavery they would do much better 300+ years later. You get the irony... Estonia is in the best shape after the same start in 1991.
I haven't visited either city, just repeating what a Ukrainian couple told me. I spell Khmelnitsky very different from the way you do. How would a Lithuanian nobleman even dream of being enslaved by Poles? At the time of "Khmelnitsky" Poland and Lithuania were a commonwealth of two nations. "Khmelnitsky" was very good at playing two ends against the middle and switched his allegiance constantly.
Do you know Molotov-Ribbentrop pact?. Russia attackted Poland and Finland 1939. We are brothers in arms in the front line. Germany and France .......so sad.
Now that Trump has been re-elected, doesn’t seem to be much hope now. I’m sorry but I can’t listen to your destruction so I’m unsubscribing. I’m sorry, good luck.
