    Hulk shifting the ice to reveal Cap is a lot like the deleted scene from The Incredible Hulk, where Bruce tried to commit suicide, and Hulk spit the bullet out and shattered a glacier - revealing Cap’s shield in the ice.

    Nowadays it's just a thing, but EMH was really the first major reclamation of the concept of the Hulk being a regular member of the Avengers. In the comics, after he quit, he only ever really made guest appearances with the team for over forty years.

    It’s unfortunate when I criticise MCU movies and my friends assume I hate all Marvel stuff or do it to be a contrarian. It’s the very opposite because I adore this show, this is what I consider a near perfect adaptation in my eyes. The fact it never got a season three makes me miserable but hopefully we’ll get something of this caliber in the future because I miss consuming Marvel content that doesn’t have the MCU seal of approval on it, y’know?

    I think that some of what makes Avengers earths migthy's heroes work is its adaptability, since a child can like it, an animation fanatic, even a mcu fan, and obviously, a dem comic fan. When I was a kid, I was a big fan of the series, and I loved seeing the Avengers in other media, but I always wanted them to stay in their Ehm suit, which indicates that 90% made me a fan of the comics (either good or bad lol). But honestly, many hate the Avengers because they took the superhero genre for themselves, but Avengers earths migthy's heroes show that they are a great group of characters.
    PD:I think if we talk about how Avengers earths migthy's heroes relates to comics, 10,000 ideas come to mind, ideas that I always had, but now that the series is becoming recognized I can admit

    EMH is so good because it adapts the wonderful concepts and stories from the comics while being focused in a way the comics never could have; the show's writers can know what characters and themes they're working with beforehand, while that wasn't the case with the comics.

    • @tskmaster3837
      @tskmaster3837 2 года назад +1

      How Age of Ultron handled Ultron: They paid respect to the Crimson Cowl, Ultron's first identity, by having Ultron wear it in the chapel- straight from the comic The Ultron line in the movie started at Iron Legion 3, making his second form Ultron 4 and his bigger form Ultron 5- like the comics- and Ultron 5 was the one who "made" the Vision which he used as his guardian/decoy on his way to Ultron 6- which was just Ultron 5 made out of adamantium.
      MCU couldn't do Adamantium because "X-Men"... go figure... so Ultron 6 became Vision's body which actually helped solve the plothole from the comics of how Vision was a lot more powerful than Ultron 5 and how his phasing ability was ignored by Ultron.
      I wish EMH did half of this; The comic Ultron was psychotic, the MCU was manic, the EMH version was Data from Star Trek with even fewer emotions, it kind of sucked.
      Weird how EMH had fewer restrictions than the MCU in regards to Ultron but didn't do him justice at all even with "Daddy" Hank Pym available. The MCU switch it to Stark which really worked out, especially once Ultron started to mimic Stark and it pissed him off when he realized it. "I'm nothing like Stark!"

While both work for the character, which is better comes down to what you think a killer ai should look and act like.

She always injected this burst of fun energy into everything which was necessary as, well, they’re comic book superheroes. While I’m sure it’s all harrowing to them, it all still looks fun to us, hence why we enjoy the show. I also appreciate that she was the one who tried to solve things through communication, especially among her fellow Avengers. The powerhouse ones never really did that. It worked in the first Iron Man because it fit the personality of RDJ's Tony and because it was grounding itself in realism, but over time that attitude has worn out its welcome, since now every film uses it, undermining themselves because they think if they take these things seriously it'll make them look ridiculous, or open them to mockery. Very good point. I have several of the reprints and sometimes they are just goofy. But they can be reworked.
    I remember reading the Hulk and Boomerang was throwing rings for some reason. But they retooled the character a bit into something better. You cut away the bad part of an apple and use the rest. And then many apples are used to make a pie.
    And while I generally hate retcons, advancing a character is different. It's like Quentin Beck working for the Tinkerer. It makes sense. Or Beetle becomes Mach 1. I could see that. He's tired of getting his butt kicked.
    Don't change something just to change it, put some thought into it.

    I always thought Hulk's rampage in Some Assembly Required was because Amora was playing on his paranoia, since he's never known what it means to trust others. He's more defensive than anything when he chooses to talk in that episode, because he's always on guard. And when Amora talks to him as Mind Ghost Bruce, she tells him that his fears are justified -which is the worst thing you can say when someone is paranoid-.
    The only one he -begrudgingly- trusts on the team so far is Wasp, and him accidentally hurting her is how he breaks from Amora's control in the first place. The other Avengers don't trust him, or even like him, but they do genuinely want to help. The best evidence for this, at this point in the series, is Tony protecting him from a SHIELD attack at the end of Breakout, and the others joining him.
    Even then, Amora's manipulations took their toll on Hulk, since he echoes what she said to him when he quits at the end of the episode.

Nick Fury was also black in spite of everything about his character and story being based on 616 Nick Fury and not Ultimate Nick Fury so that was clearly because of the MCU as well. HP Lovecraft was a known white supremacist, and the show (and I guess the book it was based on) confronted it head on, making it a black-centric story. It was a great story with the added bonus of basically throwing up a middle finger to the author.

      I'm not an expert on Poison Ivy, but I don't think comic books exploring darker themes like assault, coercion, and free will is necessarily a bad thing, but only if it's done seriously, with sensitivity and compassion. As I understand it, this wasn't often the case with Mandrill. And what makes it worse in Mandrill's case than with regard to someone like Poison Ivy, Mandrill and his powers were bound up with a lot of racist folklore/stereotyping about Africans / African-Americans and their supposed 'sexual magic'. Gladly, it's a trope that has mostly died off, but there's always that racial aspect to Mandrill's powers that makes him even more outdated.

      @@PillarofGarbage well, for startes, thank you for explaining in detail WHY Mandrill "powers" where that big of a problem. A a bit more regarding histori of his creation.
      And as for the part regarding "dark/mature" topics in comics.
      I never said I had anything against it. Since like books, TV, Games etc. Comics are just anouther ways of presenting stories.
      And as for Mandrill/Poison Ivy comparison...
      To me at least it's kinda ironic that people call out character like Mandrill or Star Fox (aka the Inhuman, and Thanos Brother) for been "problematic" because of there "power of pheromons".
      But I never seen anything like this towards characters like DC Queen Bee, or Poison Ivy. Even tho they more or less using the same type of power.

      I think Mandrill, more than many other similar villains, has an origin and powerset that we can do without in the 21st century - a lot of his comic identity is unfortunately playing with old racial stereotypes and tropes like the 'black brute' - rationalwiki.org/wiki/Black_brute - which are best left behind in my opinion. That being said, I don't think the show de-fangs him. He still has these powers, and is still a formidable foe - albeit one that cannot beat the Avengers together. It's to the show's credit that the version of Mandrill is a largely faithful one (despite having the really unsavoury elements glossed over), who is then defeated by the Wasp and the team. It isn't a rewriting of the past, but it is a repudiation of it.

      @@PillarofGarbage I think if we deem that just because we have progressed as a society that we have the right to change someone else's art that quickly becomes a slippery slope with any medium especially comic books and I think there is something to be said about the avengers not only fighting harmful stereotypes but defeating the idea of harmful stereotypes by defeating them you can both be fighting someone who embodies a bad stereotype and be defeating the idea of that stereotype all at the same time and I think changing super villains who make us uncomfortable it's just another way of gentrifying our art but don't get me wrong I think they adapted mandrill perfectly for a children's show

    MCU: gets late, doesn't go direct to the point and need 10 movies to make a villain and arc saga.
    Animated Series: goes direct to the point since the beginning and just need 3 parts or 3 episodes to make a great arc and saga.
    Example, things that MCU failed and EMH did right just for making comic book stories right: Avengers team up for the first time, Hawkeye, Bruce Banner and Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Thor, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Carol Danvers, Ms Marvel, Mar-vell, Ronan, Kree, Skrulls, Masters of evil, Thunderbolts, Villains, Hydra, Ultron, Shield, Sword, Kang, Galactus, comedy, characters development, stories, plot.
    That's how you create and write things or something great, not making them with fan service and making seen more "interisting" so that in the end turns into generic versions.

    Have you ever thought of talking about United They Stand? I watched it recently, thinking it would be a cheesy abomination…and I was right! It was truly glorious. This show is superior in pretty much every way (especially as Iron Man and Thor only ever get mentions in that and Captain America only pops up for the episode where they take on Baron Zemo) but one: Scarlet Witch’s accent was GLORIOUS! It’s a nice thick Eastern European one. Truly top notch stuff. It’s also interesting as a retrospective in how it was made well before the MCU was a twinkle in anyone’s eye, not to mention that it reflected the truly insane state of comics in the 90s. Not only were the outfits both hideous and impractical but it was also set in the future but not clear about that fact? It was truly bizarre.
    For those wondering: it aired in 1999 for one season on the Fox Kids block when they made a bunch of licensed Marvel shows for a time and you can currently catch it on Disney+ just like this gem! They’re often under the recommendations for each other too!

That's criticism. And by all means, do it, but be aware that it is what you are doing in these videos.

      @@PillarofGarbage Yeah, no, this is very good, and narratively better than if the Phantom dropped in for one episode, then just dipped.
      I just see this attitude a lot that "this comic character is too silly to be adapted into being cool" or "this costume is too dumb", when it's all arbitrary, and just conditioning, not fact. The reason people think Green Goblin is cool but not Space Phantom is because they see Green Goblin more, and they're told he's cool.
      I've been told by people that Kang shouldn't have his helmet cause it's lame. And yet we EMH fans think his look is dope.

    ...Why is it 'problematic' to have a villain who is a threat to women and is implied to have done things to them without their consent?
    I can understand if the idea is trying to avoid that sort of stuff to ensure kids don't get introduced to horrifying concepts before they get to old but otherwise... dude, he's a villain. He does evil things. The idea of manipulating women gives girls a reason to fear him and boys a reason to hate him, meaning it's very reasonable to root for the heroes to stop him.
    What, are you saying that it's problematic because his targets are women? Sure, so Poison Ivy and her pheremones are just as problematic then, given how she uses them, to my knowledge, against men.

    • @PillarofGarbage
      @PillarofGarbage  2 года назад

      I’m not making the claim that the power to control women is inherently problematic. In Mandrill’s case, the issue lies in the way it intersects with the history of racist American folk mythology around the supposed sexual hypnosis powers possessed by the African and African-American races.

      @PillarofGarbage  2 года назад

      With respect, I’m not sure I agree. While I’m sure that was a reason too - needing a disposable villain for this establishing scene - the team behind EMH know their stuff. They’ll have known the history of Mandrill, and the ways early issues had him use his powers. To me, the fact that the scene plays out the way it does given this awareness on the writers’ part is evidence enough for the reading I make.
