    I am in Canada so the costs are in CAD funds. My Beagle was just diagnosed with IVDD. Cost for vet visit, x-rays and 2 pain killers $600 for a 2 hour visit and the items are pretty basic, nothing high tech. I was then told that it would be $3-4K for an MRI, $8-10K for an operation, $300 for blood tests, $50 for "hospital stay", and $300 for anesthesia, plus numerous other items, plus taxes. At least the vet was up front about the costs and I was not presented with a cost breakdown while she was on the operating table. Needless to say I am going to try the 30-45 days of crate rest and hope for the best as there is no way that I can afford this. It's gut wrenching that the prices are just so stunningly out of reach for a vast majority of the pet owners.

      if only one party would have pushed for goverment controlled pet insurance I would have supported them. We paid 300 for meds and examinantion - we were told it would be like 10k for surgery.

    My 12 yr old beagle was stage 4, still had "deep" pain sensation in all 4 paws. No bladder control. Couldn't even lift her head the first day.
    Could not afford mri or surgery. She did not tolerate the nsaid, we had gabapentin, cbd oil 1000mg, and some left over tramodol. She equired 24 hour care. Flipped her every 4 hours, kept her pee pad changed, gave water with a large plastic syringe. Tried to express her bladder but was never successful. Thankfully she regained bladder control on day 3 or 4. She was walking within a week.
    Strict rest, no running, no jumping, no beds or furniture, carried up and down stairs.
    We are on week 4. Doing well. Started human grade green lip muscle capsules 750 mg seem to help. Still do cbd oil once a day.
    There can be hope without surgery. ❤

      @@yoomsuu Yes she has regained full mobility. We no longer let her jump up or down off anything, no beds, no couches, not the van. We lift her up or down. Not taking any chances. She still takes cbd oil daily and joint supplements. She is 13 now and still spunky and loves walks. We do have to take it easier these days, she can over do it and get sore sometimes.

      @IndiAcres 10 месяцев назад

      @@yoomsuu cbd is available without prescription, I get mine online but there are plenty of shops that carry it locally as well. It's not a cure all miracle but it does seem to help with pain, inflammation, and calmness. I take it myself.
      Her back keg would tremble or shake when she was out for a walk, this was probably a good indication of the more serious condition. I thought it was just old age, I was wrong.

      1mo ago: My just turned 9 y.o japanese spitz just went through the first week with progressing to stage 3-4 by end of week. We did steroids after finding a 3rd vet. It was a complete turn around for 2 weeks. She then went off meds for 2 weeks going well and nearly black to normal. However, the second week I heard a yelp then end of 2 we are now back and maybe even worse than where we started

      I highly doubt your dog was stage 4 and recovered in a week lol!! Stage 4 is very little deep pain sensation that is why it is stage 4. My shotzu was stage 4 and 1.5 years later hasn't quite recovered but he's had some improvements

    If it was not trouble enough that scanning alone costs thousands, there seems to be a shortage of vets because each pet hospital in my area is booked for over 5+ weeks which only leaves the more expensive emergency pet clinics.

      The pandemic has made every single veterinarian short-staffed but seeing even more pets in need.
      Day after day we see almost twice as many pets as we would have in 2019. All with less staff.
      Thanks for being patient with the veterinary teams that are overloaded with sick pets.

    We've got this same issue going on. The Vet here in South Florida estimated 2k for imaging, 4k for surgery and 1500 in meds/followup work. So that's 7,500 dollars to get my 8 year old dog back to normal. I have a 4 year old child and a newborn and just cannot bring myself to spend that much money as we are a middle income family. I wish someone could do this process for 3,500. Makes me very sad.

      Hi there. I just replied to you on one of our other videos. Please have a look at our website.
      www.SEVNeurology.com
      It talks a little bit about why MRI costs what it does. While we are actually a little more expensive than what you’ve referenced here, humbly we are the best team in south Florida to help pets walk again. We’ve helped thousands of pets with this condition over the last 15 years. Please give one of our offices a call. One of our patient care coordinators can discuss not only the costs of care, but the VALUE of the care and try to help you with payment options.
      We are here to help you and your pup however we can.

      Our new year 1 Chihuahua had this problem, I'd suggest not making it about age unless you're really ready to euthanize your 8 year old because you had the time with them.

      I’m in Australia. My Beagle is 10 and the disc issue was in C4-C5! 5 1/2 hours of surgery, and $11k later.
      It will have cost $12,000 by the time it’s all said and done.
      I’m an old woman and he is my companion. I would sever my arm to save him. BUT, as you say, the treatment costs are prohibitive for many people which is terrible in itself.
      I feel for you, I truly do. I had to beg, borrow and pray for $$ since I’m recovering from the aftermath of leukaemia treatment. I send you much love and positive vibes.💯🫶🏻🐾🐾🐶🇦🇺🦘

    What if a dog has ivdd for 6 months can it be repaired with surgery? Or is it too late?

    • @SEVNeurology
      @SEVNeurology  11 месяцев назад +1

      It depends on the severity. If mildly or even moderately affected, dogs can get better with surgery even if symptoms have been going on for six months.

      Hi John. Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) can occur in any breed but some of the breeds most at risk for the condition include chondrodistrophic breeds such as French bulldogs, dachshunds, pekingese, shih tzus, and beagles. Learn more about IVDD from one of our recent blog articles: sevneurology.com/blog/dog-herniated-disc/.

She has the same problem this Jack Russel has in this video. Does anybody know how long it will take her to get better if she is taking Prednisone. I work but do not have this kind of money. Or is there a place online were a company can match me thanks.

    • @SEVNeurology

      Every dog is different in how quickly they recover, and the likelihood of IF they will recover. If she can feel her back legs, there is about a 60% chance of getting better with steroids, CRATE REST and time. Many dogs improve in a couple weeks but can take months to reach their fullest recovery.
