    TO PREVENT IVDD
    use only a harness
    Avoid all Tug-a-war games
Avoid jumping from furniture (sofa, bed)
    Avoid stairs.
    Avoid any injury.
Pick up from below the body never by arms.
Let them sleep on memory foam mattress, latex or talalay
To avoid spine pressure while sleeping
As soon as you see any signs of IVDD
Immediately see a Vet -OR- crate them for 6+ weeks. Only let out to do business.
They also have a back brace that can be worn during this time.
If in pain have vet examine your dog. The vet may prescribe steroids prednisone,
Gabapentin or a muscle relaxer. Do not rush to euthanize your dog please get
    A 2nd and even a 3rd opinion.
Your dog looks great. Thank you for all the information.

Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad you found it helpful. We have taken a proactive approach to preventing joint and IVDD concerns in our Frenchie since she was 2 years old. It includes many of the things you mention, plus exercise, and targeted supplementation. I honestly believe all of the preventative measures that we took the past 6 years have contributed to the fact that her IVDD injury was very mild and non-surgical. A lot of people think there's no way to prevent IVDD, but in fact there is so much that can be done to help prevent IVDD and help reduce the risk of surgery.

Your list is good advice but it does not "prevent IVDD" in breeds that have genes that result in weak connective tissues that form the discs. These measures will delay acute injury but will not prevent the ongoing degradation of the discs with aging. Not trying to be negative but just want owners to have the information they need to make the tough financial/medical decisions down the road.
For example, all toy sized dogs should be trained not to jump off the bed as even dogs without these genes can be acutely injured. I would add the following to the list for healthy disc and joints for all dogs:
      1) Do not de-sex your dog or at least delay it by 3 years. (much more difficult to leave a female dog intact so usually best to delay de-sexing but male dogs can be left intact-- All the bad things we have been told about intact male dogs are exaggerated and/or propaganda by the AVMA). De-sexing causes and/or exacerbates joint and skeletal problems.
      2) Do not feed kibble-- Kibble is not species appropriate and will condemn your dog to poor health down the road. Feed a human grade, high protein, balanced raw or gently cooked fresh diet.
      3) Walk your dog with a harness daily so that all his joints and discs get oxygenated blood flow and his muscles stay toned.
      4) Research the breeder before buying a puppy. Easier said than done. Try to get references so you can talk with owners who have dogs from the breeder to try to determine if the adults have genetically caused health problems.
      5) Absolutely give supplements that provide the building blocks for healthy joints and don't wait until your dog is a senior. A raw, prey model diet already supplies all this nutrition but it does not hurt to boost. Certainly a kibble fed dog is nutrient deficient. VetriScience "Disc" is a really great supplement in addition to the supplements recommended in this video.

@@treasuretrovel3816 in dogs that it’s genetic it will continue to keep happening even after surgery or multiple surgeries. That’s the sad truth. Unfortunately, there is no definitive long term treatment for dogs predisposed to genetic IVDD.

Omg my frenchie just had IVDD surgery - the pain he went through was unbearable and i literally have PTSD, as the pain and cries he was in was bringing me to tears. We took him to a neurologist in Miami & MRI confirmed it was a slipped disk. Post opp 2 weeks but he’s now going through the heavy medication withdrawal. Very scary but it seems like you’re on the road to recovery. The pain still haunts me to this day & I never want to go through that again. Hugs to ur sweet pup ❤ & she’s lucky to have such caring parents!! Yes, no jumping and rough play any longer.

My 3 year old frenchie/baby started shaking and not moving 2 nights ago. Took her yesterday to vet and yes they said possible spinal injury and gave her dex shot/gabapentin/prednisone and said bed rest and only out to pee. Follow up is Friday. I am devastated and have this sad depressing feeling all day. I’m doing everything I can. He walks very slow and wants to sleep with me in bed. Makes me really sad. Hope he gets over this. I really hope she’s still doing well today. Your video was suggested to me, I made a video on our dogs passing from IVDD. One thing I want to say is our dog first showed signs of IVDD I believe at 1 years old, he would recover and be fine for a long time and then go through another pain/shaking thing so long later. I’m sure you’re being super careful with her but I just want to say that you shouldn’t advertise that she is healed or that these methods would heal the damage already done inside. I do know that some dogs experience the symptoms and then never do again which is awesome and I hope that’s your situation. I just want people to know who could be watching this that they can seem fine for a long time and then it can happen again, as did with my boy who passed at 3 years old.

I'm so sorry to hear your dog passed away! This is so heartbreaking! Thank you so much for sharing your story. It's been almost 2 years since the incident and Milka is doing amazing. This video is not treatment advice, it is a documentation of our journey. We have not had any relapses, thankfully. However, you are definitely right in saying that things could happen again in the future. We are continuing with all our preventative measures, holistic supplements, red light therapy, exercises, behavior corrections, etc. It's a journey indeed, but we know we are doing everything we can to help prevent another injury. Thank you so much for sharing. There is definitely so much that can be done to help prevent IVDD from happening. French Bulldogs are also very prone to IVDD, however, we have been able to prevent this for the past 7 years, and when she did have her injury, it was very mild. I definitely think it's because of all the preventative measures we took the past years. Here are some of the aspects that worked well for us:
      - We make sure she gets lots of joint-friendly exercise
      - Keeping our dog at perfect weight where we can easily feel her ribs
      - No jumping
      - Preventative natural supplements: pawdega.us/products/joint-support-bundle-standard
      - Feed Bone Broth
      - Feeding a low-inflammatory, raw meat diet
      - Using the correct harness
You can also start Red Light Therapy to help prevent IVDD. This is the device that we use now: shop.photonichealth.com/collections/essential-line-pad-system/products/essential-line-essential-pad?ref=ivV7b9zn3wMB_S

I love these kind of videos BUT EVERY Frenchie Owner should do their own research. I was really wanting to go the NO SURGERY ROUTE but my gut kept telling me to at least get the MRI done for my pup. Thank god I did! They found a burst vessel in her spine which could've been deadly without surgical internvention. While I am aware that recovering without IVDD surgery is possible always do your research and do what you believe is the right thing for you pupper. But please remember that bringing your furbaby back home with no surgery is a big risk as they can potentially lose their lives. I say this with good intentions

My dog has just been diagnosed with ivdd, inflammation on his knee that come later on be medial patella luxation and he also has secondary stifle osteoarthritis, my dog needs to keep moving to help with the osteoarthritis but I’m afraid if he lives a lot it can worsen his ivdd, I asked the vet other than surgery, what can I do to prevent it from getting worse, he didn’t say meds nor crate rest, he only mentioned to let let my dog up and down stairs and prevent him from standing on his back legs ( I only went to the vet because my dog wound go up stairs normally and wouldn’t stand on his bag legs as often) he didn’t say anything about crate rest nor medications. And I’m so afraid it can get worse, the vet recommended labrela injections for his osteoarthritis, which I was thinking of going thru, until I read some comments on RUclips videos of how it has made their dog pass away or become deaf, and I’m very very scared, I don’t know what to do, I feel stuck.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dogs diagnosis! Thank you so much for sharing! I know exactly what it feels like to worry about our dog's health and future. It's so difficult! There is a lot we can do to support our dog's joint health and help slow joint concerns from progressing. I would have a look at diet, making sure to feed a low-inflammatory diet such as raw or freeze-dried raw. This is what we feed our dog currently: pawdega.us/collections/freeze-dried-raw Then I would focus on anti-inflammatory supplements and joint health supplements. I recommend this bundle which is also what we use: pawdega.us/products/joint-support-premium Additionally, if you can, have a look at red light therapy. We never did any MRIs because by the time we got to the vet she was already walking and the vet did not think it was necessary. We always want to avoid sedating her, so we did not want to do the MRI if it wasn't necessary. She has not had any IVDD flare ups since that first initial injury and it's been over 1.5 years. We are very consistent with her natural supplements and red light therapy to help prevent injuries. We are very thankful she is doing so well.

The same thing happened to my Frenchie on Sunday. She lost motion of all her legs 😞. She was in bad pain for like two days. The vet told me it was her disc and will require surgery. Honestly it's too expensive for me as they are asking for 15k. Today she was much better. She ate, she cant move but she was able to do her needs on her own. Saw my other dog playing with a toy and started hating so thats a good sign lol. Honestly I'm going to give her time to heal. (Highly recommend buying a dog crate so they wont move) and see how she does. Today gave me hope. How's your dog doing?

@@erickmoran8134 I'm sorry to hear about this, but I am happy that you already see improvement after a few days. I understand the desire to 'wait and see'. However, if I may suggest something? Right now is the best time to start doing a few natural things to support the healing journey naturally. If you want to have the best chance of preventing a surgery, then we have to actively support our dogs in their healing journey rather than sit and wait. Actively supporting the healing journey will look different for everyone. For us, it was a multi-faceted approach including all the things mentioned in the video. However, you can also start with some natural joint-supporting supplements, CBD, or natural anti-inflammatories. We created an IVDD support bundle (pawdega.us/products/ivdd-bundle) to support pet parents in their natural support, but you can also select the ones that best fit your dog and your budget. Let me know if you have any questions. For our dog, the Injury was over a year ago, and she has not had a relapse. She is healthy and agile. I wish you and your dog the absolute best and hope she recovers soon.

I just love both of you in the name of God
I have been gathering information from your videos
I cry because I have seen my Yorkie suffer for so long. I have tried many things, but my holistic vet die last.year and I am lost. My Yorkie
Was born with a completely damaged hip dysplasia, so only 3 legs from birth
Last year, we found out 6 disk are damaged, and my vet was doing therapy and supplements he made specifically for him
He was born with a narrow throat. The neck shows in the x-ray that it was not form right either
But if you see my Yorkie, he is
Shakes went he has bad days
    But it just getting worse
    And I hate it
My vet is no longer here to help him. we live in a small town in texas kilgore, texas, and nothing but regular vets
Thank you. I will try these supplements, but I worried about the liver at the same time he is 4 pounds full of love
Eats healthy primal for many years and raw other good brands, so he is healthy
My vet never gave him shots
Nothing, but we live in texas
I rescue 72 cats from the streets, spayed neuter, and find them homes, but I think it is time for me to dedicate my full time with my baby
I suffered an accident in 2015. My left foot completely cut off reattach but with horrible pain
And 11 surgeries with no success, so I am terrified of surgeries for my baby never
So thank you again and pray for my baby to continue using his 3 legs, but I am prepared
To buy him a wheelchair, I will not see him suffer
I stopped my treatment since he got worse
I live my life for him because of him. I haven't given up in life
    Thank you ❤

Thank you so much for getting in touch with us about this. I know how important it is to ensure your dog does not consume any products that could interact with the medication you are giving.
The wonderful thing about the products that have been recommended is that they are truly natural, very gentle, and yet so effective. Since they don’t contain any synthetics or filler ingredients, they are recognized by the body as nutrition, and generally speaking, our products can be used with most medications.
However, for liability reasons, I won’t be able to give a definitive answer regarding the specific medication your pet is on or may take.
You can refer to the full ingredient list of the products on our product pages to determine if they are safe for your dog to use. If you have any concerns, I highly recommend consulting with a holistic veterinarian for guidance on combining medication with supplements. I'm so sorry to hear! I definitely recommend speaking to a physiotherapist to see if they can help your dog's situation. Having a look at hydrotherapy would also be really beneficial, since it's great exercise easy on the joints.

💠💠I do know the prescription meds are toxic to the liver and kidneys so I am looking into these products. 💠💠
Does your dog use any type of orthopedic dog bed or cot? I have a German Shepherd with IVDD. She started having paralysis in hind legs 2 weeks ago. She has improved mobility in back right and wants to potty alone. Good dog food is important. I use a mix of freeze dried raw and I boil a lot of organic chicken and turkey mixed with plain Organic rice and I make a bone broth.

Yes we do have an orthopedic dog bed for her as well. The supplements we've mentioned in this video will be a great addition to your dog's support. Would you consider adding hyaluronic acid, glucosamine chondroitin and colostrum to your supplement plan to speed recovery, reduce inflammation, and increase synovial fluid in the joints.

    • @PAWDEGA
      @PAWDEGA  Год назад +1

Hey Ray, thanks for your message. This is a great question. Our dog gets HA, Glucosamine, condroitin, and collagen mostly through her raw food diet and bone broth. We also feed her Bovine Trachea by Dr Rons which also a great source of the above nutrients. It's a human supplement but I do feed to my dog 😀 lddy.no/1hz7o
We personally don't feed colostrum for ethical reasons, although there are a lot of amazing benefits to it.
I believe all this would help if you're able to source them from wholefood sources rather synthetic.

We are sharing our experience; this is not a treatment suggestion or substitute for veterinary advice. There are different stages of IVDD. Not every IVDD case involves a paralyzed dog. We have been taking a preventative approach to IVDD for over 4 years through diet, supplements, exercise, and more. We are convinced that this preventative approach is the reason why our dog's injury was not as bad as it could have been. We wish your dogs all the best of health.

My dog is a black Labrador and he got waist paralyzed down one morning out of the blue and cried so loud if we moved him even bit me and he has never bitten anyone in his life, and doctors told me he won’t walk again and not sure if he will make it and we tried the medicine and he recovered but not until years later today, we got a puppy and they played a lot and rough and he started the symptoms very slow same as their Frenchie symptoms and worse over the days. Yes it is a true spinal injury. I rather have this stage where I know there is time to help my baby than to wake up with him paralyzed waist down, this is a true spinal injury, paralyzed or not . So yes have hope people.. because my dog was saved first time and this time I have hope he will again. In the name of Jesus amen
