- Reading a Landis Gyr E470 Type 5394 Smart meter Electric for Day and Night Readings
If you have economy 7 electricity (separate daytime and nighttime readings) and you have changed energy suppliers, your new energy supplier may not be able to take readings from your smart meter. You will need to read the meter yourself and submit your readings manually on your account on their website.
Daytime reading is displayed before you do anything... make a note of this first.
Rate 01 Act ImP (this is your daytime reading)
If you can’t read it because the display is not lit up, you can go straight to pressing and holding button B for 5 seconds. This makes the display light up and displays the daytime reading.
After holding the B button for 5 seconds, let go and press the A button once without holding it. The display changes to the night-time reading.
Rate 02 Act ImP (night-time reading)
It seems that not many people know how to do this, and there are no instructions online for this model and type.

Excellent! I can confirm this also works with type 5424 of that smart meter (on which button B is a dark grey, and positioned directly below button A). Just the instructions I needed to find my night rate meter reading as I'm switching energy supplier. Thanks.

OMG, thank you so much for this video, bloody stupid system for finding Rate 2 IMO :-), I had originally sent them the credit number which was 5190 and it should have been 1570 !!!!!
Mine doesn't seem to work? It is 11 years old. Could it be broken. It goes through A button stuff ok.
Mines only shows rate 1, it don't show rate 2

Hi Mike, I have just moved into a new house and I have the exact same meter. Do you know why am I still viewing only the Rate 01? could that mean the previous owner had 1 Rate only on his energy contract? I cannot get to Rate 02. Thanks for your help
I’m no expert on this, but maybe they didn’t have economy 7 (day/night readings) on their account. Suggest you phone your provider…
Hey - are you still with Eon with this meter and Eccnomy 7? I have a very similar meter just installed (L&G E470 Series 3 Type 5533) and they are saying it won't work with a dual tariff like Economy 7, and that I need to have it downgraded and then replaced with a dual reading meter which will likely take 3 months and thereby miss all the winter heating I'll be doing...!
My parents are now with a different provider, and the same meter is set to single tariff reading now! We can still do the procedure in the video, but the second reading doesn't change any more. Sorry, I can't help more!

I have moved to a property with this meter. When I look for quotes on Octopus it asks if I have an Economy 7 meter. Is this an Economy 7 meter? Seems like it is if it has two rates, right?
I'm no expert, I'm afraid. The meter can read both daytime and night time readings if you're on that kind of account... it also reads single readings now after my parents changed their tariff...

No - this is all I know!
Rate 1 or Rate 2 - which is the regular supply and which is Economy 7?
Rate 1 = daytime, rate 2 = night-time. As far as I understand, you might be on economy 7, and will then need your daytime and night-time readings.

So which one ,do you send to the energy supplier?
If you're on a split day time / night time account - they will want both readings. If you're on a normal - one-reading account, just the rate 01
Are these readings for gas or electricity or both
As the description shows - this is an electric meter. Gas doesn't have a day and night option as far as I'm aware!

Is this a joke ? In this day and age after having installed a smart meter why on earth would anyone have to go under the stairs and mess around with the meters. I raised the issue with octopus who directed me to this video. Absolutely appalling service , the smart meter should display the correct info , if it can't, at least the energy company dashboard should display the required information. Seriously how difficult can this be ?
What a stupid meter. Do these companies who manufacture them have any common sense at all?
