    Thank you.. finally some clarity on how to read this meter. There’s a feeling of distrust when the power companies don’t explain the meter operation. The technician who installed it said that he wasn’t allowed to teach the customer when asked. My Fronius Gen 24 Inverter has an excellent App that shows the power management but also understanding the Smart meter is important.

    Thank you so so much for this video. I have been searching everywhere for a manual to read all the codes on the E355 meter and none was available. Your video is so helpful for me to understand the reading on my smart meter.

    How to read real-time info from one of these meters: (yes, Jamie has shown how to read accumulated power).. press the button about 3 times until "ALT2" is displayed, then press and hold for about 3 seconds. It should display the Volts (about 240) and you can cycle to Amps - and see what you're actually using moment by moment. Plus a whole lotta other gobbledy gook. It will go back to normal display after about a minute.
    Thx Jamie for putting this vid up - not at all surprised that nobody can find usage info, and power distros and retailers are all playing dumb and pointing the finger at each other: as long as they can charge us for power they dont care and dont have to.

      Thanks very much for this comment. I wanted to see if there were any draws on the meter when the house power was switched off, and this did the trick. Also interesting to see the passive power draw of stuff that's always left on. And many thanks as well to Jamie.

    Thanks for the video. It helped a lot. Although only fitted 10 days ago, and no bill yet received, register 16 (presumably 18 on your meter) on my meter appears to be cumulative total power produced by the solar system. This means that register 16 minus register 4 is the total solar power used locally with the balance exported, which is displayed as a cumulative total on register 4.

    Thankyou. I have this one fitted. The electrician was only able to tell me that the left pointing arrow shows exporting to the grid and the right is importing FROM the grid…. Or vice versa!. Must look when it’s totally dark.

      Once you know what each register is measuring it is pretty easy to read the meter, the difficult part was how little public information about this meter is out there.

      These smart meters though are not “ estimated “ they are in real time that’s the whole point of them .. they are wireless direct to the electricity company which means they calculate in real time … your hundreds of dollars over is must likely the recent power increases in price which were massive … and also coupled with a fault somewhere possibly in an appliance inside a house .. that can be anything from a faulty Air con unit … hot water cylinders ( usual suspect check temp is set properly ) and also a faulty fridge with old fridge seals …

    Hi,
    they installed this for me today and i used to have two old meters, one for general and a dedicated one for offpeak (hotwater) how can I be sure they connected it as a controlled load/offpeak reading?

  • @MatthewMcNally-s8j

    Thanks for the explanation mate. We too have solar hot water system and now the booster only works in off peak times on controlled load which means by days end we run out of hot water. Origin not helpful at all.

    Hi james, I have the E350.
    Im guessing its similar to the E355. I don't have solar or peak off peak differences, so the only reading I need is the total usage on the day I take my photo of the meter reading.
    Like the odometer reading. The total I have used since I had the meter connected. So just to be sure it's number 3 gives me the total usage?

    • @peterhammond3892
      @peterhammond3892 Год назад

      Mine shows only 2,3,4 and 5. I take photos weekly to check. My town gets power fluctuations and drop out regularly.

    Hello, thank you for the useful video. Is the coding readings 03, 15, 21 supposed to be the instantaneous readings (how much kWh coming from the grid into your house at the current time) or is it cumulative (how much total kWh coming from the grid into your house given a period of time) if so what time period? I've seen some people say that it calculates total kWh coming from the grid since the meter was installed but I'm not entirely sure.

    • @jamieelliott3723
      @jamieelliott3723  Год назад +1

      The readings you get are a cumulative total over time not what you are using at the time. these values will just keep getting bigger. if you dont have off peak tariff then 3 and 15 should be the same.

      @@jamieelliott3723 Thanks for the help, I have another question for my electricity bill the sum of the previous meter read and the current read is the usage I am paying for. This doesnt seem correct if the meter is a cumulative reading then shouldnt the usage I pay for be the difference of the previous read and the current read? Recently I've received a bill saying my electricity usage has increased by 140% since the last year even though nothing has really changed.

      By illegally connecting the input power directly to your switchboard. Quite possibly you'll kill yourself if you haven't removed the main fuses, and quite likely you'll be detected and fined heavily. Guaranteed you're going to the hell reserved for people who steal and sponge off their community.
