Love it!!!! Steve's voice gives me chills. Killer line "we'll boogie til the rooster crowes" Something tells me that the Small Faces lived that lyric. RIP Steve & Ronnie, you are missed!!
I love Robert Plant but I keep realizing how uncool is it of him to act as if Steve Marriott did not exist... I mean... as far as vocals are concerned, LZ's Whole lotta love is a carbon copy of SF's you need loving!
what a great cut, just discovered this...as kickin... intro and keyboard sound like woman from tokyo...no doubt these guys influenced many many musicians in uk and usa!!!!!!!!!!
I've been a fan of rock music my whole life and it's a damn shame that I'd never even heard of this band or Steve Marriott until now. There must have been quite the machine in the works to try and rob these guys of the air time and accollades they deserved over the past 50 years.
Far worse than that actually, their own management robbed these guys of nearly every cent they earned. They were getting 20 pounds/week and Carnaby St clothes while their manager Don Arden (famously, Sharon Osborne's dad) was pocketing the royalties. Sadly, the lawsuit against Arden was still going on when Steve died tragically. His life was tragic and not helped at all by the fact that he never saw the fruits of all his labors with Small Faces.
I'll tell you something that will blow your mind. Listen to the Small Faces "you need loving", knowing it was recorded 3 years before led zeppelin ever existed. I guarantee your jaw will drop.
Pure raw Power . Saw then at their peak @ Festival Hall / Melbourne . Tin Soldier still held in reverence at my place . Up there with Megadeth / Behemoth / Cream and any great you care to name from any era . Ancient Metal Guy .
The kind of song that has to be cranked up to max and blasted out. You can hear its influence in so much from Weller to Oasis, Kula Shaker, a Suede. Magnificent, also settles the Kenny Jones v Keith Moon argument for me
Kenney Jones toured with The Who from 1979-1982 , played on their Live Aid appearance in 1985 and stayed in the ban's official line-up until 1989, at which point he was replaced on drums by Simon Philips. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenney_Jones
love this band and you gotta hear the song of the same title by Don Williams who was Buck Owen's side man, tenor and lead guitar player. THAT is an amazing piece of bravado.
Also this was the blueprint for the Pistols Pretty Vacant, as cheerfully admitted by lifelong Small Faces fan Glan Matlock who should know, he wrote it!
I believe Steve WAS the Jean Genie, listen to the guitar track as it approaches the halfway mark in You Need Lovin'. Bowie, great as he was, was SUCH a user.
@steviecuz Helter Skelter was from Beatles 1968 White Album and Wham Bam Thank You Mam from Small Faces 1969 Autumn Stone album and B side to Afterglow Of Your Love single. There were other heavy songs prior to both of these.
Well she was the lady of charms A string of young boys on each arm She was good to those who took off all their clothes or played guitar Love comes stays goes Anyway your mind blows Wham bam thank you mam We'll boogie till the rooster crows his thing He lived alone love for none He said pain never hurt anyone Wow no no Surprise surprise Consumption on the floor Stretcher out the door And that was it God forsaken empty shell Forgotten in a bad smell Wham bam look out Sam

This was the b-side of their last single, Afterglow Of Your Love, which was released by Andrew Loog Oldham without the band's permission at about the time the boys broke up. Idk where this track came from. Was it something they were working on and had shelved? Was their another album in the works. Awesome track nonetheless.
kinda points the way towards Humble Pie but hardly the Invention of Heavy Metal. Lots of heavy bands around before this, Cream and Blue Cheer to name two. My contender for that title would be Hippy Hippy Shake by Swinging Blue Jeans
Well said. I have always wondered how Humble Pie would have treated this. It also would have been a perfect fit for Rod Stewart's Faces also. Blue Cheer was definitely the pioneer band for heavy metal.
The first heavy metal song??!!! Do me a favour! You really got me has power cords is that heavy metal? The accolade for inventing heavy metal goes to Black Sabbath.
The metaphorical snowball started rolling before Black Sabbath's first album came out in 1970. Led Zeppelin's Communication Breakdown from their first Album and Whole Lotta Love from their second album come to mind. Steppenwolf, Iron Butterfly and Cream are some of the other essential proto-metal acts and were among the first to use many of the tropes that later became common in heavy metal. Cream's Ginger Baker, was an aficionado of double bass drums before it was cool for example. All that and a lot of other innovations that paved the way for heavy metal happened in 1969.
This song sounds great for them, anyway this wasn't by Small Faces actually. As you can see from the demo, definitely drums by a good studio musician, bass by another good studio musician.(dunno as for organ) Quick recording but a good piece.
what are ya takin about bud? thats defo the small faces playing it's the only version i know of BUT would defo give a listen to anyother version too ..tho i doubt i would prefare it ta this
People talk some shit on this. Because the small faces weren’t up to playing this they got session musicians. Hmmm? They’re not the monkees. Your a troll!! Why am I bothering .
You dont get more rock’n’roll than this
So privileged to have seen Steve live in the 80''s! The voice on 'im is the strongest British soul voice ever, bar none, end of!
Saw him live just before he died.
Crowd full of mods and bikers.
Surreal but enjoyed by all.
Love it!!!! Steve's voice gives me chills. Killer line "we'll boogie til the rooster crowes" Something tells me that the Small Faces lived that lyric. RIP Steve & Ronnie, you are missed!!
Steve Marriott - The Coolest Guy EVER to grace this planet...
very possible
He influenced Hendrix to be the coolest fucker too.
No one's fit enough to shine Steve's boots.
The Small Faces deserve wider exposure. They were a solid 60s band among the giants of rock.
More than solid mate
i can hear humble pie in this one
..........RIGHT!!!??? Good call!
Never get tired of this and Afterglow. What a 7-inch Single that was !
The genesis of Humble Pie`s sound can be heard on this song, what a hard rocking tune!!
Eddie Coyle sf was the high point of rock, period.
Amazingly talented band fronted by the greatest rock vocalist ever. This deserves 50 million 'likes'.
Oh Steve Marriott .I had such a crush on him what a voice .and that mod hair cut .I still have a crush after all these years .I l oooooo ved him.
Steve Marriott .....best ever singer in the best band ever
Same here. Was and still in love with Steve Marriott. So cool. Such a talented, good looking guy, with a lot of charisma. Gone way too soon.
stunning band, steve best rock singer ever.
Takes my breath away this is amazing, excellent and rock solid, thank you!!
One of my favorite songs of all time. Thanks for putting it here.
I have always believed and I keep it, these guys have been a decade ahead of others
Marriott's voice more than an inspiration for Robert Plant
I love Robert Plant but I keep realizing how uncool is it of him to act as if Steve Marriott did not exist... I mean... as far as vocals are concerned, LZ's Whole lotta love is a carbon copy of SF's you need loving!
Beautiful pics, fantastic song , fantastic Steve´s voice , i love this
Absolutely brilliant, a real mod band. Incredible band makes you feel young and alive again 😎

09penny1 Song of a Baker (hold onto something)
@@darkforest33 I've heard it! Had to pick my jaw up off the ground! Talk to You and Tin Soldier as well!

Listen to song If I were a Carpenter, Black Coffee Itchy coo park ❤❤❤❤❤❤

best band ever, fact, end of story!
This was the direction they were going.....they could've took over the world!!!
The authentic FAB FOUR
Sorry, I'm the one who made the likes go from 666 to 667, but I really do love this! First time hearing it!
Sound mate haha it was boss at Satan, but now it's just 2 likes away from it all evening itself out again in the cosmos 👌🤣🤣🤣. X
One of the greatest.
Die Small Faces gehören zu meinen absoluten Lieblngsgruppen! Die Stimme von Steve ist sagenhaft! SUPER!
Another classic, thanks for uploading.
Pure raw Power . Saw then at their peak @ Festival Hall / Melbourne . Tin Soldier still held in reverence at my place . Up there with Megadeth / Behemoth / Cream and any great you care to name from any era . Ancient Metal Guy .
Ronnie und Plonk waren einsame Spitze!!!
Superb song. Thanks.
Je préfère la version originale. Merci pour toutes ces belles photos du groupe, ce qui fait une très bonne vidéo.

+Mark Dunford true, I can hear a lot Kula Shaker, I'm a Kula Shaker fan, what is Kenny Jones vs Keith Moon argument ? Who is the best one?
sorry mate, Kenny Jones couldn't carry Moonie's stick bag. Good drummer for sure, but Moon was a force of nature.
Each were magnificent in their own way. I think it's significant that KJ was the first drummer The Who turned to when Moonie died.
Kenney Jones toured with The Who from 1979-1982 , played on their Live Aid appearance in 1985 and stayed in the ban's official line-up until 1989, at which point he was replaced on drums by Simon Philips. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenney_Jones
On Stage, Steve Was 50 Ft. Tall !!

I can`t hear any similarities,which bits?
Another brilliant song from the ever brilliant small faces long live mods from an old mod ❤❤❤❤🎉🤩😊😎🤗
David Bowie said the title in his early 70's hit "Suffragette City" that he got from this song.
I think Marc Bolan nicked a few bits too LOL
Ron Sandgren Glenn metlock took some of the chords for pretty vacant from here too apparently!
I believe Steve WAS the Jean Genie, listen to the guitar track as it approaches the halfway mark in You Need Lovin'. Bowie, great as he was, was SUCH a user.
@@idaslpdhr He didn't have the talent to steal from Steve. LOL
@steviecuz Helter Skelter was from Beatles 1968 White Album and Wham Bam Thank You Mam from Small Faces 1969 Autumn Stone album and B side to Afterglow Of Your Love single. There were other heavy songs prior to both of these.
Weller took so many cues from Marriott, the best always borrow from the best
Well she was the lady of charms
A string of young boys on each arm
She was good to those
who took off all their clothes or played guitar
Love comes stays goes
Anyway your mind blows
Wham bam thank you mam
We'll boogie till the rooster crows his thing
He lived alone love for none
He said pain never hurt anyone
Wow no no
Surprise surprise
Consumption on the floor
Stretcher out the door
And that was it
God forsaken empty shell
Forgotten in a bad smell
Wham bam look out Sam
This song to me the best of all.
Awesome band
Easely britains greatest soul singer ❤🎸🥁🎙🎵🎷🌞🇬🇧
great song steve marriott all the waaaaay
That Voice...
Eine tolle Stimme, viel zu früh gestorben. Steve Marriott lebt durch die Musik der Small Faces weiter.
That last segment of the video is a fantastic photo of Marriot.

Steve Marriott - Champion and Legend
Ronnie Lane - Champion and Legend
WOW!
sivvybee Amazing aren't they. . Über Mods
AWESOME!
יפה מאוד אוהב זה מוסיקה
Led Zep took massive influence! Listen to Whole lotta love then You need loving !
Marriot and boys are true Mods
Arran Evans Very true too, the Who were turned into mods, these boys were Mods ! RIP Steve, Ronnie & Mac
Ian McLagan wasn't a mod and as he states in his autobiography was reluctant to become one upon joining the band!
Heavy Rock ,,,,before ,,,,,Heavy Rock was invented
Heaviest song they had, unfortunately Marriott left soon after this 😢
Wan bam thank you mam

Reminds me of Jumpin Jack Flash.

Hippy Hippy Shake is a nice contender; however, I would choose Johnny Burnette's Train Kept A-Rollin' (1956).
Steve war einer der g a n z Großen!!!
I'm going out to this.. *S.F*
I guess David Bowie liked this band? in the middle of suffragette city the band stops and he says the title of this song
There would have been a great story . If they would have just Left us alone. Now it's to Late.
This song points all the way to Mott The Hoople.
was this before Helter Skelter? apologies fo my ignorance, but this was the first Heavy Song I reckon??
No. 1969
The first heavy metal song??!!! Do me a favour! You really got me has power cords is that heavy metal? The accolade for inventing heavy metal goes to Black Sabbath.

+Agencetourix I think "Stroll On" in 1966 was definitely the first song which had the apparent form of that.
Stooges, Blue Cheer, Yardbirds, too
Check out 1954 song by Pat Hare called " Gonna Murder My Baby" to my ears , the first " Heavy Metal" guitar sound that hardly no one knows about..
@@djpjwajtgjm Couple that with Link Wray's Rumble.

Pity the vocals on this track isn't more dominant, otherwise a great song.
