    it works but it is VERY situational.. I have been doing this since day 1 but.. when you have an ore that is this deep in the ground.. the time you waste digging around it may even take longer than to dig it normal... silver is the best to pop like this.. copper works best when its on side of a cliff or half buried, but if its almost fully under ground just dig it up, dont try to pop it. its fun but takes longer

    • @alex18sb51
      @alex18sb51 Год назад +5

      As far as I have observed, it is also worthwhile to pop underground copper deposits. "Normal" excavation yields 60 to 90 copper, while popping yields 90 to 120 copper. At least I've never had less than 90 by pop a vein and never more than 90 copper with normal digging.

    • @anthooktt1403
      @anthooktt1403 Год назад

      @@alex18sb51 I dont recall getting less or more than 90+ either way, I was not really paying attention.. but if you do get more for popping, well that would make it worth your time, I will keep an eye on that in my next playthrough

    • @alex18sb51
      @alex18sb51 Год назад +4

      @@anthooktt1403 I was extremely surprised when I realised this. My "feeling" is that during normal digging, items occasionally glitch under the map and despawn. But since nothing despawns in Valheim and items are usually pushed into the surface..... I can't really believe this theory myself.
      Fact is, the amount of items that drop when popping is greater than the amount when digging. That much I can say with certainty.

    • @anthooktt1403
      @anthooktt1403 Год назад +1

      @@alex18sb51 items do despawn in 1-6 in game days, if they are outside workbech or campfire zones.. tho it makes sense.. when you raise ground if any item is on the ground they can clip under, but for what ever reason in valheim they stay just under map and dont despawn and I have seen items pop back up on their own after some time... sooo popping ore could trigger hidden ore under map to pop and bring it up ..... pop nice

    • @alex18sb51
      @alex18sb51 Год назад

      @@anthooktt1403 Do Items despawn also in sologame? I thought they do not? Good to know.

    One thing I always forget to do when I get the bronze and better metal pickaxe(s) is to use the antler pickaxe to clear the terrain around the deposit. Pickaxes all do the same damage to dirt terrain or dig at the same speed but antler use less stamina so it is better not to waste the higher damage dealing metal axes on the dirt and save them for the deposits.

    Nice and concise. There are mods that can help this of course, including ones that lower the bedrock and auto-level terrain (saving digging). The only shame comes when you have glitches from late-game mining (very late game usually)
    Also, some Trolls can fall in your copper hole, but this can help mine the copper if you are sufficiently agile.

    Ore deposits are like icebergs: 90% of it is probably underground. Been using this method forever and It's insane how much copper you realize you've been leaving behind beforehand.
    Even better: once you've cleared most of the ground, go find a troll with a tree. Let him do the swinging because he can even hit tiny copper fragments just underground that might be holding up the rest of the deposit.
    Seriously, trolls are your friends. Learn to use them and you can bring down entire forests in record time without ever dulling your axe.

    You can also very rarely get a deposit to pop without even mining any of the ground. If the deposit is 100% underneath the ground and then mined, it can pop. Now, this sounds impossible to achieve, but there are a number of ways to do it. My favorite is using an Abomination to mine copper. It's ground aoe attack is perfect. It will damage the top parts of the copper node, and eventually be far enough away from the surface it will pop. I've heard you can do it with trolls too, but have never tried. I have one singular time got copper to pop by mining the exposed bit until it is no longer showing, but upon trying to repeat this, I never once was able to replicate it.

  • @ShinkuRED
    @ShinkuRED Год назад +1

    Honestly, i used to always clear the ground around the copper deposits to get every bit, but I've found since the large majority of the copper is towards the top, I'll just mine directly what i see on the surface and go down from there until i get most of it. I might miss a few pieces towards the bottom, but you still get at least about 2/3 of the deposit and it's probably 2x faster overall.
    I still dig out the ground for silver though, as it takes much longer to mine and requires an iron pickaxe.

You will spend 30-60 minutes working around the deposit while mining it properly will take you like 15 mins not counting way back home to empty your backpack...

    1.5k hours PRO TIP:
    This technique is NOT WORTH IT. Takes actually longer and is way more complicated than simply mining the ore.
    Its false benefit is purely psychological: you feel more engaged because you're following a "strategy", and you're rewarded at the end. But in reality you lost more time and dug a uselessly bigger hole.
    Sometimes it works, but the numerous times when your deposit is floating out of reach, gotta build ladders to figure out THE spot that is considered still connected, you keep falling through and take damage each try, ... is SOOOO annoying!!!
    Plus the pickaxe inflicts more damage downwards, so your hits are weaker when mining from the bottom.
    This technique is useful when the deposit's underbelly is already exposed (on a cliffside)
    Pro Tip #2: You'll get plenty of easy copper in the Mistlands, and bronze items aren't good anyways. Mine only 1 or 2 deposits to make only necessary stuff (axe, nails and benches upgrades), upgrade your Troll armor then skip to iron age.

      600 hours, agree with every word.
      Modern map generator puts A LOT of copper deposits, there is no reason to vaste tons of time trying to get every bit from single one.
      With all craftings stations, all comfort, carve, cart, +4 buckler, +4 mace, +1 axe, without bronze armor and decorations you are going to need around 230 copper FOR THE ENTIRE GAME. Just dig out the very top of 4-5 deposits and you have ez 8 stacks of copper.

      1000 hours here and I have been doing this for a long time. I like that I can focus the digging first and then worry about collecting and hauling later. I just toss the stone on the ground until my tools need repair and then take back the stone I can haul. I make a chest in the bottom for the ore before I pop it, because I have lost ore to the game before by leaving it on the ground while hauling. When it is done, I plant trees in the hole so they all fall inside the hole for harvesting. I actually believe it is faster overall to use this method, once you get good at it.
