OMG thank you! Built this tonight, fitted it our with two boar and two wolves and it's working like magic. By far the best breeding set up that I've tried to date. Next up, sorting out my egg farm.
cant see anyone else had this problem with 2 star wolves. But sometimes its working great, sometimes the wolves are getting stuck. This is with the larger pen you suggested. The cubs just stay there and it wont breed unless i run around a lot and push them down. I even tried making the hole longer EDIT: for anyone having the same problem, you need to expand the floor. Instead of snapping it off the L shaped blocks at 4:00, you need to just build a straight half block and snap the floor off that.
Just a heads up, using 2 star wolves, the pups weren't dropping through the hole. Removed the small beams making the base of the little crosses in the center, and that allowed them to fall. Playing on Ashlands patch.
@@chivari100 I think he is talking about the 2 beams in each cage that are shown at 3:37 (Those which form an X looking from above). I tried it and seems to work (for now at least).
Excellent revision, it was very sad when I made your old design right before there seemed to be a game update that messed up the throw distance. I had already filled a reinforced chest with uncooked boar meat so it didn't really matter for that world that it broke, but I wanted to do something similar for wolves on a shared server. This design seems to be safer in accounting for variation in throw distances with the design of hitting a wall first so I'm excited to try it.
Hey, Beeblebum, thanks for this build and the chicken breeder design! I combined them into one build and it works marvelously. Props to you, friend, and gratitude!
Now we only need a Lox and chicken breeder farm and its complete! Thanks for the revision, we are playing this game again after so long and i happen to see this revision, i built the last one on our old save and helped us a lot, will try to do this one on our run this time.
Works great for bores. But wolf cubs get stuck all the time unless you delete those 45 angle beams and floor supports so there is a much bigger opening for the cubs to fall down through.
Hey! I just build this for the purpose of breeding boars and it works really well! I also build one for 1 star Wolves of these over a greydwarf spawner for infinite materials and it sorta works as well, the Wolf cubs do get stuck in the breeder, but you can just jump on them to push em through haha. Still hunting for a 2 star Wolf... 460+ hours in and I only ever saw 1 that for some reason ran away to the other side of the map lol Edit: Okay, I just acquired a 2 star wolf and the cubs still got stuck behind the breeding wolf. I moved the little walls ( in the x formation) behind the wolf in the breeder a little further back and removed the 1 meter beams they were on, and now it works! Sometimes the cubs still get stuck but they just move around and fall down! Luckily because of the bigger size of the wolves, they don't rotate after moving things back!
Great update! I've been working on modifying your previous one to work built into a hill/ridge but have been hitting my head on the turning animals issues...will make some modifications based on this update and hopefully will be in business.
The aesthetics of this build are great. The only animals I tend to breed are chickens as I get plenty of boar, wolf and lox while adventuring. On the server I am on, I am the chicken man - with four hatcheries running - three of which are in cleared troll caves.
@@The-B-Side it's not a mod. I build a campfire in the troll cave and box it in with signs, both of which require no workbench. I am doing this on a 100% vanilla server. I could not use a mod even if I wanted to.
Currently trying to run this with one star wolves. I had read about the problems people were having, and proactively went away from the 45 angle beam and did a straight 1m beam instead at 4:09. Unfortunately even one star wolves are still stuck. Two star wolves probably won't even fit period.
Failed with one star wolves for me too. But the problem is that the wolves won't eat. When I opened it up thinking that the space was just small (as recommended replacing the 2 walls with one) they just turned sideways. I then realized they were facing north, and my working boar breeder I had just happened to have it already facing north. I've read before that this is the default facing of all mobs at render. So I'm about to try that in my wolf breeder.
this one is fantastic. I really don't like the way that the wolf pop limit was restricted, I had to tear like 10 old towers because the 3 cap ruined them. I'm going to build something similar to this soon.
We built one of them on our server. It works really well. Its just not right tho to keep animals like that in such cramped conditions. We nicknamed the breeder: Sauschwitz
There is a pretty simple breeder wich abuses the animal AI. So...build a area where 2 animals are stuck to each other with a small hole so spawn can fall down. But what you do next is automate animals so they move to next area (lets call it slaughter area). Animals for some reason realy like climbing stone stairs that go up. So place those near a exit and animal will follow into death by going near smoke or radiactive area. (last part only works if you have stone that is immune to this damage) You can make whole place underground with roof and no living thing will come inside.
I have tried several ones, but none of them are to my liking. A closed of breeder for lox are pretty challenging because of the space they need. I will have to sit down and just get some research done. lol
tanks for the vid! my problem with my own design is that they refuse to move or eat, only when I break a beam or something so they get more room is when they immediately start to move and eat. Dunno what to do.
hey, im having problem with the boar not breeding, they seem to be eating as the pile of food i put in front of them is reducing but they do not produce offspring, i tried to go on the wiki to see why but from my understanding i havec everything well placed to work, exactly like you design it.
There is a limit of amount of boars that can be toghether before they start breeding. Making a breeder larger than 4 boars will stop them from breeding.
Hello, anyone here who can help me? The boar doesn't seem to see the food in front of them even if I placed the half-wall the same way as in the video :( It worked the first time and then for some reason, they just stopped eating after that.
@r-gie three, maybe four things could be wrong and here are some very simple fixes. Just go forage dandelions, raspberries, and mushrooms and it'll eat 2 out of the 3 I think. Also be mindful of your fence placements as if you have two at the right angle, you can essentially just be throwing it in a whole that the boar can't get to. Lastly make sure you don't have a lit flame like a torch, sconce, or campfire withing maybe 4 or 5 fences in an outward radius from your pen and to make it easier I heavily recommend hunting down a troll to get the troll leather armor as it gives a +15 sneak bonus which is always helpful with tames.
Me and a friend is playing in HC(Hardcore) and tried to build this breeder, we were almost done when we suddenly realised that the boars\wolves are 20% larger in HC so this doesnt work in hardcore afaik, they get stuck and take more room.

We didnt think about it, but when we tried to push the wolves down in their spot they would just get stuck mid air, so we had to remove some of the walls and they fell down, but another problem came when the wolf pups got born, they were also to big for the drop hole in the back. All monsters have "Enemy Speed & Size (%) " at 120% at very hard. Thanks alot for the response :)@@The-B-Side

Boar and Deer don't need farming. You can get all the meat you need by knowing where they spawn. As for the rest the wolves are a pest and all you need to do is go up into a mountain and you'll have more wolf meat than you need. The only farm you need is chickens. To be honest once they changed it so you have to be close to breeding animals for them to breed farming became pointless. Chickens need to be contained but the rest just need to be hunted.
Chicken meat does indeed make superior food but sometimes it's not about the meat for your player. Having an army of +2 wolves can be fun to play with...it just depends on what you want to do. ;)

When you have a new, skill-less character, a boar farm is very useful since you're going to use boar meat for a while. Also on harder difficulties when you die easy, you need to have a trove of food ready to give you a lot of health to go get your stuff again.
