Having ran the entire quest solo, including getting Fabled, the best advice I can give for other solo players is don't be discouraged when you run into a 4 stack. Unless it's a recov account chances are that 4 stack wont be the super sweats everybody thinks they are. With how matchmaking in Comp works, a 4 stack gets matched with heavy bias towards the player with the highest amount of points (tocom himself said this to me on Twitter) and as a result the 4 stack you come up against will more than likely on average be below yours and your blueberries rank. In fact, it got the point where if I saw a 4 stack I had more confidence in my blueberries to know what they were doing and 80% of the time I was right in my prediction.
This is all coming from someone who ran with a sniper the entire time as well and on that note don't ever feel like you HAVE to run a shotgun. If you prefer, and have confidence, in your ability to snipe or use a fusion rifle or neither by running double primaries then it's way better for you to stick to that then try to mimic the shotgunners and potentially being a detriment to your team. Shotgunning isn't difficult but knowing when to use it as well as overall decision making is a different beast entirely and both of those things will change if you run a loadout that you're not comfortable with or not as practiced with.
Lastly, leave the salt at the door. Getting annoyed at your blueberries or opponents helps no one, least of all yourself. We all have that one gamemode we hate *cough*countdown*cough* but don't let that influence you. You're there to win, not to throw salt and annoyance. If you start getting tilted or you lose a couple of games in a row take a step back and take a break, do some bounties or get some food. Going in with a negative mindset is one of the most determining factors when it comes to winning or losing.
So those are my three cents as someone who solo queued for the Luna's Howl.

Also to the solo players out there don’t get discouraged either. I went in to comp hoping to get finish up the starting quest steps and reach fabled at another time; however I ended up going on a 20 ish win streak by myself. After that I was winning some and losing some but I was still growing in rank. I think part of the frustration is that people just want a quick way to fabled; it’s not quick it takes a while and that’s okay. Before I got my Luna’s I would some time just play 4 to five games win 3 or 4 and lose a little bit. By all means it is much slower progress but it is still progress. I got Luna’s completely solo with the exception of playing once or twice with another person. This is completely possible for a lot of people. Just don’t freak out if you lose. If you lose a game just quit out of comp for the day and retry tomorrow. Happy grinding guardians

Yohann Jardiniano you do realize that you had insanely amount of luck with your quest? It is not the norm to win 20 games in a row especially with skill based matchmaking unless you are a god in pvp with a 4kd and a win ratio of like 80percent and you can carry whole teams on your own. Most people have win ratios around 50 percent thats quite the norm with skill based match making and with that in mind it is very unlikely to start out with like 20 wins in a row unless you have luck like crazy.

Ran the majority of it as a duo, nothing too serious. Made rank earlier than we expected. Teamed up when possible, but ran the other steps (last few solar and headshots) headshots I found a little rough. Lost a few, got easier games. Got some kills. Won a few them couldn't get away from fabled rank. Team's with all lunas, or teams with 2 or 3 luna and others more than happy to shotgun. It was rough but well worth it.
Personally I'm not great in crucible, so for those scared to try out comp, don't be. Give it a go. To those on the run keep with. Good luck to you all.

I would like to preface this by saying that I do quite thoroughly enjoy CoolGuy's content, and this comment is not intended to be rude or insulting.
That said, I find it hard to take this video as seriously. You (CoolGuy) were able to speed past the Fabled step, something that ends up being the most stressful part of the quest, due in part to your team. By no means am I saying that this is a bad thing, but you more or less jumped past the part that many of the people who would want to watch a "You can do this!" video on Luna's need that pep talk for. I say this from experience, after being no closer to finishing the Fabled step than I was a month ago when I started grinding.
However, I'm sure doing those other steps must have felt like hell to do with the higher prevalence of Luna's and Forgottens once you hit Fabled. Props on that.
Apologies if this comment comes off as negative, it's just something I felt needed to be said. Best of luck out there, everyone.

Honestly the best advice I have I got it from one of true vanguards videos. For someone like me (and I imagine that’s the case for a lot of players) going back into comp was scary, you’re really scared of going on a huge loss streak but the best thing that I did was not even worrying about reaching fabled. Not caring for winning or losing made the quest actually really fun to me, I was focused on getting the other steps done, even if I lost a couple of games I was focused on advancing towards the next step of the quest. By the time I was on the hand cannon headshot kills I was already on fabled (and I soloed or duoed most of the quest)... so basically the best advice I have at least what really worked for me, was actually not caring about fabled or even the grind of the quest itself. Going with the mentality that you’ll get there eventually no matter what really made it fun for me... I’m not sure if I’ll grind for the not forgotten (mainly because I don’t think I’m good enough to get it) but I do know that the Luna’s is actually possible to get if you invest the time and 2 or 3 weeks!

KC Orby Honestly, the hand cannon headshots were harder for me. Once I got out of the weapon kill parts, I could go back to any weapon load out so I just used an energy shotgun and bygones and then climbed my way up to fabled by playing casually. When I faced a Luna stack I just switched to a blast furnace and outranked them and memed them into the ground.

@black manta it's called lag compensation. Someone ELSE on the team had bad wifi so what the peer-to-peer servers bungie keeps in the game do is they "bell-curve" everyone's wifi, so like the ppl with great internet get nerfed a bit and the ppl with bad wifi get buffed a little so that everyone can feel included and snowflakey. Dedicated servers would be better especially since it would protect against DDoS attacks, not just lag switching and stuff, but that would reduce the player base, and from a business standpoint, you wanna keep as many people in the game as potential microtransaction/DLC/season pass/whatever tf customers/players.

    • @danhalo1405
      @danhalo1405 6 лет назад

Kreau no it is not, literally every fool and his mother brought up this same 'advice' whenever someone on RUclips talked about the Lunas quest. You always hear the same thing "i didn't do it myself because i was at 2100 points to soon but you definitely should finish the other quest steps before even care about the points" but this is a dumb pointless advice those people never question why they themselfe not acted accordingly to their own advice. But the answer is very simple people want fist and for most certainty that their efforts are even worth anything at the end all those other quest steps are worth nothing when you can't reach the 2100 at the end so clearly people will try to go for this step first especially because once you reached the 2100 it is not important if you loose some points after.

    • @Kreau
      @Kreau 6 лет назад +2

      A) I wasn't saying your comment was made on unfounded logic. I was simply saying it was poorly written and didn't present an articulated argument
      B) I don't know where you think the video remarked that the advice being given was the best way or most efficient way, it was simply stated to be the easiest way for skilled players (emphasis on skilled) to complete the quest. They can literally throw games and just focus on getting the kills they need on all the low ranked casuals that are surely flooding Guardian and Brave before taking the time to pursue the rank. He wasn't saying that his advice was the best means to go about doing it, it's simply the least stressful approach in HINDSIGHT, which I can attest to, having gotten it two and a half weeks after Forsaken's release.
P.S. you should work on your speech. It's tedious to have to decipher what you're saying when you butcher your own remarks.

I’m so glad you made it clear that I don’t have to be at Fable once the quest is complete. My clan and I got to Fable super fast then I went solo and have been grinding the quest to finish up. I went from 2700 to 2500 and I was so stressed about about dropping under it and having to go back and grind for fabled.

  • @RandyNgelale

Just got this last night! I'm nothing special when it comes to crucible so if I can do it so can you! Just keep at it! Also, if you are playing solo, watch the "evaluating guardians" count when you are finding a game. If it goes up by 4, ( for example of you went from 1 to 5 or from 2 to 6 players etc) know that you are most likely up against a 4 stack and act accordingly. You can still leave matchmaking as long as it doesn't hit 8/8 and you start flying.

      I'll break it down further...
Sometime's ill start the que and it'll jump by 3.... I think to myself, ok, there's a 3 stack... if there's another 3 stack joining, then cool... it's two teams of 3 and there will be me and another dude solo... that's about a 50/50 win rate in the long run
if a 3 stack joins and then its just goes "4/8, 5/8, 6/8, 7/8... then just back out... your going all solos vs a 3 stack.... not very fair
same applies if you see 2 people join... keep an eye out for more pairs and stacks of 3 or 4... do the math quickly and you'll eventually be able to curate what type of groups your playing against... (for the most part anyway)

Yes so true the most people I personally accept to get added in a bulk are 2. I always try to avoid obvious 4 or 3 stacks because 95percent of time it just is a guaranteed lose when you go with solos against those stacks.

You are totally right about the stress being gone once Fable is reached! Did all but 5 games solo. It was a bit frustrating at times. Seemed like Bungie would always match you against better players if you got on a streak.

It’s impossible to hit fabled before 30 matches, (not counting weekly points bonus) you get 70 points per win on a 5 win streak, you need exactly 30 matches for 2100 points if you started at a 5 win streak. Not saying your wrong, because you could’ve got the weekly points, but you definitely didn’t play less than 30 matches in one sitting and hit fabled.

I two-stacked and went in solo for the majority of the quest, and found strangely this gave the best results. Four stacking seemed to not work well at all (maybe our 'team' play was to blame). Matched against plenty of four stacks whilst running solo, and to my surprise would win 80/90% of the time with randoms, whilst not communicating.. who would've guessed.

I'm a 1.6 KA/D player getting better since playing comp but here's the diff......my win % is 43........forrrrrrrrrrty threeeeeeeeeeeee. Not 80%. How long at that % do you think it would take or ever? These quest steps are backwards, it should have been... hit glory rank first then kills etc. Because now you have the real good teams farming everyone else when all said and done......I wonder how many people will actually get this that has completed all the kills and such.........it seems they bated people into comp only to realize, at the very end, the cold hard truth that you probably will never get this weapon. If the rank was at the beginning people would not have wasssssssted all their time in comp.

Had to stop you at 2:10 buddy, the comp playlist does NOT scale, it's entirely random, you may go against a group of random solos who are low glory, or you'll go up against a 4 stack already running lunas howl. This is from my experience in comp this past week, as I've been running comp non stop to grind Luna out, and at this time I am now just gunning for fabled. The problem is finding a reliable 4 stack. While I may be a weak pvper I am by no means bad, and consider myself slightly above average, however after messaging enemy teams in a fit of rage over found out that almost every OTHER game you play in comp WILL pit you against at least 1 fabled rank Luna player.

Everybody saying that "this is easy! "30 win streak" needs to look on pc it's super sweaty! I use a controller so I'm at a disadvantage. plus most of the time on pc stack of fours are sweaty and I'm not even saying this because I'm bad in fact most of my games I'm going positive I'm at the top of my team not even trying to brag! However I'm not a streamer who lives off of Redbull i have a life so all i ask is a decent team on pc which I can never find i'm legit on with players who have zero kills per game I try to communicate in the team chat nothing they don't even reply back they run off in countdown rushing with a shotgun only to die by four people because little Jimmy thinks he can take on the world all by himself only for them to die.
Then Timmy runs for the heavy like its the objective i'am sick of this i'm worn out and its making me despise the game.
I have realized that this never happened to me on console people can say what they want about consoles but at least when it comes to team-based games it's easier to find someone on common ground with you.

Around last week I dropped from 1860 to 1668, and it was quite depressing. I managed to get back up to 1786 but at that point I wasn't sure if I even wanted to continue the quest.
I Just got my Luna's Howl an hour or so ago. I found a team on lfg and we worked so well together! We played around 6-7 games together and we won all of them. I think this is the first time I played comp without getting pissed or cheesed even once, in fact It felt a lot more like quickplay. I guess mindset really does play a big factor.

1 tip in case you are on any of the quest steps, like hand cannon precision final blows, if you are solo queuing and your team leaves, don't hesitate to message the enemy team for trades or whatever, A guy messaged us on pc and we just let him farm us as long as we got the win and he was fine with that. Got him a huge chunk of progress towards his luna.

This is 100% true. I just got my Luna's today. I am an average PvP player at best with a 1.41 efficiency average according to the in-game emblem.
I played predominantly solo, maybe did 10 to 15 matches total with a couple of friends early on. It was rough... really rough!! I got stuck at around 1300 points for 4 days straight, contended with a lot of stacked opposition teams, disconnects, quitters, matchmaking into 2 vs 4's etc. At 1800 points I started encountering teams with Luna's which just exasperated the previous issues I've mentioned.
It was frustrating, infuriating and exhausting but....I finally made it and to date my personal proudest achievement across both Destiny games.
    Now to get Broadsword :)

A question, I started my quest last season and left off after getting Recluse along with Fabled, though I was only at 40% of the 2nd step exclusively with Trust, will the other Hand Cannon focused steps have reset or will they carry over?

So if I get to fabled and am still on quest steps, then say went down to the previous rank and hen finished the steps it still counts? I don't have to be fabled when I finish the steps?

If I reach out fabled rank before the quest will it still count??. Cuz I am still sitting at hand cannon kills step and have 1100 Glory right now.

I've managed to earn Luna's Howl literally 2 days ago. My experience and that of what I have seen with friends is pretty entertaining.
The first thing to notice is that the grind is not as much of a time consumer as one might think. Obviously with friends and decent blueberries you can achieve greatness and have streaks. But even without streaks, its not going to take hundreds of matches for you to get that gun. I'll say less than 200 matches for most people. No math, just a feeling.
What I did was start of as a trio with friends. We would invite the blueberry to the party and if they wanted, they could join. We had a french guy once in your team that couldn't speak a word in english, but had more than enough game sense to know what to do, especially in countdown. That guy kicked ass with the nightfall grenade launcher...So my tip is do the same. May you be in a team or a solo queuer. If you had a good match, invite the people.. You'll be surprised how willing people are to communicate on higher levels. If you kicked ass without saying a word, imagine what you could do when you actually talked! So don't be afraid about that.
Second: If you solo queue, do the quest steps first. This may sound counter intuitive, but feel free to tank your ranks and stats if necessary. Getting all the quest steps out of your way early on can be so liberating. Getting 100 headshot kills near fabled can take forever. took me three days to get that part done. But you could also ofcourse do all the steps while you climb up, logicly speaking. But it could be so bothersome when you want to win, but also want to get 100 headshot kills in. You know you could perform better if you didn't have to use a specific weapon to get your progress in. Do as you please, I'll recommend getting the steps out of your way first, so you don't restrict yourself. Ace of Spades and Trust are very popular weapons, but you may not have the right roll or secondary to pair them up with something.
If you are really lucky and make friends in comp, as I did, you could ironicly end up very high in the ranks before you even get done with the quest steps. One of my friends is already in his 1800's and still needs to get regular HC kills...Yes, comp can be that way with decent and average players communicating. That happened with people we picked up in comp! We climbed up 800 points in one evening. Its a snowball effect that actually can happen.
Third tip: Its more of a friendly reminder, but in comp the Meta is actually a bit different than in quickplay. You will encounter shotgun apes often, but something like a Telesto became pretty popular as well and being great at sniping has such huge play potential. If you're not playing comp, practice sniping. One good shot is all it takes to make a big difference, especially as a solo queuer. Not a lot of people are good dealing with snipers. Trust me, some people even in comp forgot that these weapons are a thing. No shame in dusting off the ol' Gravitron Lance either. Still a top tier pulse rifle that can make a huge difference on some maps and game modes.
I know some of the tips sound very " captain obvious" for some, but that's how I did it. Started out with some friends, invited blueberries, some friends couldn't be on, so we invited more blueberries and overtime we build a decent team that would play on the regular. I used a trust and the Ace to get my steps done. I played on a Sunbreaker and Sentinel Titan and nope, my RNG did not bless me with anything Forsaken related exotics... :(
Most important part is: Take a break sometimes. That's what I did. Doing a daily grind burns you out faster than you think.

Lunas was a tough quest. More difficult than not forgotten if you ask me. It is almost sad lunas went to the vault so soon after getting it. My best advice is to use the freelance playlist and quit if you are having an off night. Run with your team but don’t be afraid to flank if you see your team pushing and you know where the enemy team is at. Also I used trust to get Luna. I just had the generic role we got early on and still did fine.

I have Warden's Law with the curated roll, do you think that would be a good option for precision HC kills? Cause I'm switching between crimson and trust.

The part on getting 100 headshot final blows, I recommend using the west of Sunfall 7 hand cannon. It can get you headshots easily. Plus it has high caliber rounds which stager the enemy making it hard for them to shoot you cause of the flinching they get.

Fighting Lion+110 HC is the way to go for most of the steps (except solar kills). I'd recommend either the "Home for the Lost" from EDZ or the "Agamid" from Dead Orbit. HotL has quickdraw for that nice prime and put down swap combo, but the same works with the Agamid's rampage. Prime and put down, then two tap all day until Rampage runs out.
