Tiamat as a random encounter at level one? This DM is brutal!
Well, he does look a bit odd doesn't he
+Corey James Soper Meh. After Tiamat's performance in this, her CR should be adjusted to a more appropriate 1/4..
Z Kahn this is back when it was HD, not CR
They're actually 7th level
+Bard i play first edition, so i'm very familiar with it all- it feels old too XD
I started watching this and immediately felt like I should get a bowl of Capt. Crunch and sit in the floor. The 1980's had the *best* Saturday morning cartoons!
8 am. CBS
Saturday morning cartoons was the only time you seen me in a house. Then Stampede wrestling and WWF in the afternoon
Younger kids who grew up with '90s cartoons would argue that point but they're objectively mistaken. 😛
Right
Me before playing DnD: "Whoa, Tiamat is huge! Wonder how tough she is"
Me after reading Tyranny of Dragons: *"WHAT KIND OF DM THROWS HER INTO A 1ST LEVEL ENCOUNTER?!"*
Or better, how do several level ones beat Tiamat?! XD
@@PerfectAlibi1 A serious neft. Tiamat has true sight, she can see you when you are invisible or polymorphed. And if defeating her could be done by something as simple as locking her away behind thick stone, The All Father would simply send me, or better yet, one of my ancestors.
@@rachdarastrix5251
She did just wake up, so she might not have had her morning coffee yet. 🤣
I KNOW, RIGHT?!? A couple years ago I played as a cleric of Tymora in the Tyranny of Dragons adventure, and when my party got to the end of the Rise of Tiamat adventure, I had to use my healing spells to keep myself and my party alive, because every time you attack Tiamat, she can immediately attack back using something called a "Reaction" even though it isn't her turn to do anything.
To be fair, they all have magic items, powerful ones at that, maybe not beat, but survive sounds feasible
Use to love this show when I was a kid. Still holds up after all of these years.
same, but it definitely does NOT hold up lol
@@Demiurge13 why not reboot it?
Holy crap that opening just jumps right into it. This show doesn't mess around.
LMFAO
I love that!
For some reason, it kinda helps you understand the show's backstory going in. It's a matter of respect, you see.
@Daniel Evensen Lol indeed. That’s the impression it gives, the skip I mean
Tiamat as a random encounter at level, this DM is brutal! 🤣
This was my childhood and im crying while watching this.
Tally J
Me too😭
Miss my childhood days. Not a care in the world
Sameeeee omg ;-;
Shit me too holy shit
Me too...
I remember being 11 or 12 years old and watching this. The kids in this series seemed so much older and mature to me back then. I thought they were practically grown ups. Now I watch and I see how young and immature they were. It is amazing how as we age, our perspective changes.
Where did the ghost go? 😭
2:56 - "Now, Bobby! Your invisible sister might still be standing directly beneath that boulder, but just take the chance, if she dies she dies!"
LOL!!!!!
Dungeon master said she was a thief, so she would've deserved it.
Mark Carter
Probably based on all the make up teenage girls steal. 😂
CorbCorbin Think they did it more for the stealth/agility aspects, which is what you see. Kind of an Invisible Woman deal going on.
Sunzu Z If he rolls at least a 15 it'll all be aight.
Don't you hate it when you accidentally summon a dragon? Saturday morning memories. Great stuff.
Our dog rolled a 1 and a beholder appeared
Wolfie Swagg Gamer lmao
Oh yes i was a kid then those were the days. .
Don’t you hate when you swear under your breath and offend a tarrasque?
Accidentally summon a dragon none other then fricking Tiamat! XD
Let's see. They disturbed Tiamat's sleeping with their yelling. Tiamat dwells on the 1st level of Hell. No wonder they can't get home, they all died when the ride crashed.
Brian Stewart lmao
That would explain why they can't go back, but they ALL went to hell?! o_0
This is just a rumor (about children's death). Because "Requiem" as final episode was a long time out of fans of this cartoon.
@@alexferrana3979 someone just did a rough but beautiful cut of requiem. look for it on RUclips.
That or somehow they were being loud enough to be heard all the way to the first level of hell
I was really committed to watching this show every Saturday. Never was into the game though.
I like the game but couldn't put up with the guys who played .
I love Both and the Dragonlance series.
I was too young for the game. I was like 6 or 7 when i watched this show
The greatest cartoon ever made
One of them
Venger is the voice of Optimus Prime and Megatron is the voice of Uni. How fitting!
Frank was also the voice of Tiamet IIRC. And Ralph the Mouth did Eric.
This is Nostalgia for me and as there nothing on TV I'll revisit my childhood. Long live the 80's a golden era of Cartoons and TV in general
That's how I found myself here as well
I AM FROM BRAZIL AND ENJOYED THE UNITED STATES FOR CREATING THIS EXCELLENT SERIES
Been 35 years since I seen this. I was 8 and had no idea what D&D was then in a Catholic family but parents did not mind we watching. Forgot about this, made my day!
The dm is definitely fudging these rolls.
I had such great memories of this cartoon, I remember it fascinated me as a boy, these far away worlds. For years I felt I was the only one around who remembered it, especially in France... But it seems it was more successful in some other countries... However I had never seen the first episode and I remember I was always so curious to see how they ended up trapped in that world. NOW I am disappointed, as a first episode I thought they would have taken the time to have a super nice intro where they are at the funfair, an intro to the characters and them taking the ride... but NOTHING! Just straight action!... :(
I have the DVD, they cut a few minutes off the beginning of the episode. The theme song is basically the origin story.
In Brazil, we love it.
I can't stop seeing Ralph Malph when I hear Eric!
Did he voice it?
@@domingorubies656 He did (Donny Most)!
I woke up extra early Saturday mornings to make sure I didn’t I miss watching this. One of my all time favorites growing up.
brings back Saturday morning childhood memories
Cavalier: I don't ride anything that gives milk.
*Explains a lot.....*
I do too laughed my ass off with that quote !
Red Box to Gold box as a kid. Reading the choose your own adventure style books for DnD. Watching this every Saturday. Was a good childhood
I use to watch this all the time. Good old memories 😍
Best 80s cartoon ever! Absolutely obsessed since I was 5.
Wow, they uh...they just went right into it with their origin / backstory lasting all of 10 seconds lol.
Yes I found that as well. Is this really the first episode!?
lol what more do you need?
classic at its best...thank you for this
I’m 22, my mom showed this to me and my siblings years ago. honestly feel like this is one of the most underrated cartoons. I knew about this before the game fr
The strangest possible thing about the Realm of D&D is not magic, monsters or flying castles.
It's that the Friends can tell *anyone* that they are from another realm and *nobody* thinks they're insane for a single moment.
the story the music and the characters are still so charming just as I remember when I was a kid in the 80s.
thank you for uploading these timeless classics for others to see and share. 👍👍
Where's their cleric?! How are they gonna survive without a competent healer?
They almost never get hurt anyway.
dynasxv It's mostly a role playing campaign.
I was asking the same thing about the druid or why the Unicorn is named Uni?
easy peasy. by not taking damage !
dynasxv
Haha!!
THE BEST CARTOON SERIES OF ALL TIME ❤❤❤❤❤
I grew up in council estates in Scotland the UK, This was my favorite cartoon series.... I wish i could have played the D&D board game like I saw so often in USA culture from movies etc. Now I play Baldurs Gate and feel like a whole person :P (Geek out)
Divided_Kingdom
What city/town?😊
D&D was based on northern European folklore so I would say there are many great heroic tales in the traditions of your ancestors.
Emily Mcguire they had HeroQuest at least, if I remember correctly.
I grew up on a London C.E. and believe me, this show was SUCH escapism, so I totally hear you.
I remember having to tag along with my kid sis to one of her classmate's McDonald's birthday parties (remember those? Lol) and I was so pissed that I was missing my after school D&D fix that I left the party to go watch it through the window of the Rumbelows (remember _those_ ??) next door 🤣
@@vandamme6379 Aberdeen, used to go down the the River Dee
i never played the game but LOVE the cartoon. Yay for YT posts!
This is my favorite cartoon, I used to love it as a kid and I still do love it, even as an adult.
Born in 1984, this was my fav tv show by far. My parents told me I wouldn't eat if this wasn't on. I am convinced Dungeon Master taught me english (am dutch) as I knew the language even before it was taught in school.
Thanks for all the awesome times Dungeon Master!
❤
used to be one of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid, I'm 40 now. some of the sound effects were also used in GI Joe and Transformers. Love this toon! Tiamat rulz
I wonder if they'll make a reboot of this show like they did with Thundercats.
+ThePizzadude93 That would be cool.
+ThePizzadude93 I hope not. The Thundercats reboot sucked royally, so if they made a reboot, it would most likely also be inferior in comparison to the original.
+ThePizzadude93 If they did, they should call it "Advanced D&D"
Hopefully
They should call it “Dungeons & Dragons: 5th Edition”
i used to play the game dungeons and dragons when i was young, and i love it....great cartoon
I still do play!
It's funny how all the kids have normal names and then the magician is named Presto.
The series sort of anticipated the 1985 Unearthed Arcana supplemental player handbook that added the cavalier, barbarian, and acrobat classes.
Gary Gygax was the main impetus behind the cartoon, he was developing the material for unearthed arcana at the time, so this was incorporated into the show.
All Hail Gygax!
They had been introduced in Dragon Magazine already... the barbarian in Dragon #63, the Thief-Acrobat in #69 and Cavalier was in #72... which coincidentally was the very first issue of Dragon Magazine I ever bought as a kid.
And manoman was the Cavalier broken. My DM immediately banned them as soon as one started wrecking his encounters.
That is quite interesting, I never watched the show, but I had seen bits and pieces of it, and wondered about the classes.
2020....after watching an 80s documentary on He-Man on Netflix I decided to search for this. After reading most comments I realized the 80s was a decade I wished to relive; the toys, cartoons, movies, economy, fashion, tech, everything idk Best. TIMES. EVER! 😷
Ditto down to watching the He-Man documentary, my god is that ever going to get made ha, and then looking for these cartoons, after watching the He-Man 2002 cartoons lol, which was a shame they never finished
I grew up in the 80's born in 75. It was the golden age of cartoons and toys. Fashion and Music...not so much..lol. A lot of great movies too. Starwars, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, ET. I could go on and on.
However it was not perfect by any means. Growing up in the Steel Belt it started to unravel in the 80's. Plants started to close. I also remembering practicing bomb drills in Elementary school as the Cold War was in full bloom, there was a nagging fear of Nuclear War.
On the plus side it was safe. No cancel culture, it was pre the McDonald's Coffee Burn lawsuit that made suing corporations a common practice, leading to liability eliminating just about everything fun.
I played D&D with my Brother and Neighbors, despite many believing it to be Satan's game. It taught me how to critically think and blossomed my creativity. This cartoon was great, but short lived.
@@jamesreese4170 i'll agree with you on the fashion, but dude, the music of the 80s was the best!
classic 80s, I loved this as a little kid.
Broooo I decided to look this up, and I almost cried from the nostalgia and memories
the designer of that castle was very considerate. He thought of potential 5 headed dragon visitors so gave the castle large door sizes and generous ceiling height.
20:01 "We understand pesto."
Fantasy culinary knowledge.
This show still rocks aftet all these years
This brings back so much memories, I use to rush home from school to watch this every evening
My cat used to be waiting outside my bedroom door on saturday mornings to go with me downstairs to watch cartoons with me. Shit brings a tear to my eye now-dammit those were good days
I used to enjoy this as a child, but looking now it had many unique flaws, but perhaps that's part of its retro charm.
What flaws?
Compared to my other childhood favourites like Thundercats and He-Man, this one holds up pretty well.
I never saw this as a child..its writing is impressive. TMNT, my beloved not so.much
All the best castles have the winch for the drawbridge on the outside.
I m from India...I missing this fantastic cartoon series from my childhood...
you can almost taste the breakfast cereal in your mouth watching this
Finally a episode where Eric can ride a horse and be a cavalier.
One of the best animated series of the 80s! Very highly underrated, imo.
The Animation is BEAUTIFUL!!!!
quick tip: if your DM throws you against Tiamat in your first campain, just say, alright, imma head out.
This show was dope! Highly underrated!!
2:05 first encounter and like damn Brutal DM XD
IKR? Tiamat as a random level 1 encounter.
I'd be flipping the table and walking out... XD
Tiamet's black head fires tar, the dark blue head fires electricity, the red head fires fire, the green head fires acid and poison and the light blue head fires ice and magic dust.
The black spits acid, the green poisonous gas, and the “light blue” is (in game canon) actually white and it emits ice.
One of the BEST Saturday morning cartoons of the 80s. I remember watching this as a kid.
I loved this show. I wanted the magic bow.
I wanted the whole Cavalier set or the bow.
Thanks for posting these. Takes me back to my D&D days of the 80's.
this was such a great show.
you feel like you are another MC. you are part of the party that goes into adventures to go back home.
Damn nostalgia hit me hard 😭
Apparently that Unicorn gave birth to the entire cast of my little pony!
My childhood.... Is here and its greay
Wow I found my alt account
Never split the party!!!
Outstanding upload Dungeon & Dragons TV!!!! Thank you :)
omg tiamat lives in a casual cave and they awoke it on ep 1
Maybe her version of "little hut in the woods"?
Only it's her "cave in a barren wasteland" XD
At the start of this episode, the group could have avoided a serious confrontation if they apologized to Tiamat for awakening him!!
No one in the party had high enough charisma.
She is a her.

IT BRING MY CHILDHOOD BACK
Ol' Frank Welker doing the Slimer voice for Uni. :^p
i hope they do a remake. cmon Netflix! so cool growing up with these cartoons! The WWF was so real, RIP ultimate warrior!
Huh now that's a remake worth seeing! Hopefully they'd finsh up the series to! And continue wit the original story!
love 80s cartoon they so kick ass.
Im still waiting for my dungeons and dragons reboot! (Plus i love this show)
I've loved this cartoon since I was a teenager.
Man, I feel like a kid waking up on Saturday morning again.
0/10 realism, the group immediately took the plot hook : P
It's called apathy
But they wanted to go to Merlin and asked to get home. :P They didn't take it.
The disadvantage of tv d&d. Nobody is allowed to get hurt.
I used to laugh at the kids who played DnD..but I loved this cartoon
I found this episode quite scary, in the way Venger appears disguised as Merlin - I was also impressed at Diana' backflip in the follow up. You can infer that the leader Hank was on to him.
Is Venger the same voice as Optimus Prime?
+MrMetonicus OMG! Peter Cullen... it sure is!!!
+MrMetonicus YES. They were both voiced over by Peter Cullen who also does Optimus Prime's voice in the Transformers' movie.
No, it was Megatron, Frank Welker
MrMetonicus Peter Cullen does the voice u are correct hes optimus prime
Blind Sentinel and Tiamat and pretty much every other male character that wasn’t recurring.
I"m kind of shocked how high the quality of this was for 1983. I picture stuff like Hanna Barbara.
What amazing quality! Awesome
They guy who did the voice for Hank later on was.....BIBLEMAN!!!!
true story.
The irony....
I like Hank.
Ironic only in D&D’s perception from the church
@@johnnyfountainS He was also in the movie Paradise, alongside Phoebe Cates. As in the movie where she goes naked.

That unicorn sounds like Slimer...
I fucking love this cartoon.
Lol every time I heard Hank and Bobby's name, King of the Hill's theme came rushing in my head.

Tiamat LITERALLY is in this series and a known villain in all of D&D!
8:31 Here's neat foreshadowing that Merlin isn't who he appears to be, he accidently refers to himself as a different person, a small slip of the tongue on Venger's part.
I watched this when I was a kid. Are we Sure this was their First episode? They talk like they've been in this place for awhile and I distinctly remembered an episode where they were at the Theme Park.
I came here looking for the answer to that same question! I don't think this is the first episode either...
egad i remember my mom and dad carrying me from my room upstairs and propping me up in front of the old color tv stand with a bowl of cereal lol.. 90's 00's and 10's kids will never know it..
