Yeah unfortunately it's just the reality of paint these days, and one of my biggest gripes in general with all Subaru's. I just have noticed it really change having owned so many over the years.
If you bought the VB22, you got an amazing deal compared to how expensive every other car was to buy. I’m not talking about MSRP, I’m talking about out the door price. Type R and GR Corolla had 5-10k of mark ups if you could find one. That means those 44k msrp would sell for 50k+ not including tax and title. I got my Vb Premium for 35k out the door which included tax,title and dealer fees. It drives amazing and with a few mods looks great and sounds amazing.
Agree! Got my ‘23 Premium new for $31K w/ destination & options included. OTD $33K after taxes, tax, dealer fees. That left a few $K for basic mods (Cobb AP, custom tune & intake, catback, 1” drop springs, 20mm wheel spacers, EBC brake pads & fluid, window tint, and a few STI mods and I guess I’m about $36K all in.
Just got a 24 brand new and you’re con of not wanting to mod it is something I’m already feeling 😂. Love the car and how she drives already being a week in!
7:27 - As a current owner of a 2012 Audi A6, there is literally no Subaru I've ever been in that rattle as much as that thing. A few little creaks here and there were a bit irritating in my '05 STi (RIP), but the A6 is a nightmare. I can't wait to replace it.
Have 18.5k miles on a '23 ISM limited. Seats are nice, and a tuned fa24 is nice. The rest of it is pretty rough. Rattles, squeaks, brake feel, shifter, transmission gearing, infotainment, ride quality, fuel economy. Way more cons than pros all around. BUT it's still a fun car and hard to beat for the price if you need AWD. (and before anyone calls me out, I have spent thousands to fix all of the problems, short of infotainment and an STI transmission)
Really like my 2023 base model. Glad I got one before they eliminated them. Paid $29,000 for it. Won't be doing any mods. Now you can't seem to touch one for under 35k. 🙄
I can relate on the community hating. I’ve had people tell me my cwp 17 sti limited sucks because it’s not an 18+. They say the engine is worse, the brakes are small and the front end is ugly. I never engage back but honestly I know it’s a great car. I love it. I prefer the front end and the brakes were fine on the 08-14 why do they only suck on the 15-17? I think the 17 has a nicer interior anyways except for no Apple car play. The gauge cluster is better looking on 15-17 as well. Then, the only difference on 19+ sti engines is the intake and pistons which only helps prevent ringland failure. Obviously they tuned it up a little bit to 310 too but it’s just 5hp. The community makes it sound like it’s a whole new engine. For some reason 17 has a quicker 0-60 time anyways. It’s just hate. I don’t let it get to me but it’s just funny how some people operate. You can’t just like what you have without people trying to take your happiness away. I feel bad for vb owners because I see the hate the vbs get and it’s ridiculous. The vb wrx is better than the va wrx in every way. Still not better than the va sti though 😉 jk haha
Factory clutch is good, if not a little too light. I don’t have STI shifter on my VB (did have on my 2013) but I like the shifter after adding a shifter stop/guide and STI pitch stop, transmission mount & shift bushings. Noticeable improvement.
I test drove a 23 limited when I was looking for a new car. I enjoyed sitting in it and how it felt. However, I could not get over the horrible infotainment and the low red line.
IMO, I like the infotainment in my ‘23 and never had any issue with it. I don’t mind the redline since power comes on strong at 2000 rpm. And redline is 6400 after custom pro tune so I have 4400 rpms of solid oomph!
red line really doesn't mean much in the modern age. All the honda's that could rev out can't even compete with power generation and delivery. Sure if you spend 140k+ on a porsche that will get you out to 8-9k that is fun, but it doesn't change anything other than driver experience. With that said, most tuners push out red line.
Agreed. It’s just a number! Had 2004 Celica GTS w/ the Yamaha engine and 7800 rpm redline, but the power didn’t hit until 6000 rpm. Fun but not for long!

It's not a great automatic transmission (full stop). There's something to be said about the way it transfers power, though. The car has some poke but the Cvt hides it. If that's something you can be happy with (along with the aforementioned 'leaving it stock') and you keep up with regular service intervals there's no reason you won't get many years of enjoyment out of it!
CVT is awesome as a daily. It's been a year since I got mine and I can't get enough of driving this car to work. It still lets you play around with "shifting gears" but forgives you when you get sloppy. Take one for a test drive, turn off eyesight, and put it to S# mode, and you'll love it. Overall this is a rather practical car, very forgiving, capable. Every day when it snows is now a holiday. You suddenly become the fastest car on the road. The SUVs dont have as much power ratio as you, the quick sedans dont have enough grip compared to you ) This is a fun car to drive
Gas mileage is horrendous, definitely not a commuter car. My soul hurts every fill-up BUTTTT.....The car is fun to drive, good amount of space, decent tech, amenities (esp the limited), and it grips the road like very few cars out there.
Why do people keep saying these cars get bad gas mileage? I have a 2023 WRX and that car gets better gas mileage that any of my previous cars have gotten (which we're all Honda Civic's). In my experience, I don't get bad gas mileage at all. I get better gas mileage than I did in any of my Civic's. Costs more to put gas in than the Civic's did but it's better on gas in my experience.
I don’t know much about Civics but I agree on VB. I get 27 mpg in mixed driving and 31-32 on hwy trips averaging 70 mph. And I’m custom pro tuned (w/ intake and catback). Dramatically better than the 2013 WRX that I used to own.
I think it is all relative, and you are completely right in that sentiment. I think my comments around gas are more living in an urban environment which really effects mpg. Stock I got 23mpg averaged, and tuned I get 26.5 mpg. With my last WRX I was getting ~35mpg tuned in the same driving environment. Yes more displacement, but that is substantial difference in consumption in relation to 30-40 whp difference. Just food for thought.
Ok understood. I’m sure city driving lowers mpg a lot. Maybe that’s why I got so much lower mpg in my 2013 WRX that I commuted to work in through the suburbs. I’m retired now and do more highway.
I owned a 2017 wrx and now a 2024 vb. I have got horrible mileage unless it’s just freeway driving. I had a golf gti prior to the va wrx and was getting an extra 150km (about 100 miles) per tank, with a smaller tank.
For the money these cars are hard to beat for an all around daily car. Another pro is resale value. I honestly think Subaru keeps the power down on purpose so everyone voids their warranty. Subaru saves money lol

@shredblue8536 Completely different vehicle. GR86 is more comparable to a Miata. It's a fun summer car. Whereas, the wrx is fun in all conditions, superior grip and very cheap to make significantly quicker.
How do you feel about the upkeep? I have always avoiding ceramic coating because of the whole chemicals issue. But that said, I rarely let anyone touch my car other than my own hands when it comes to cleaning.
@AutoEnthusiast it is 100% worth it. Get some Adam's polishes car shampoo with your foam gun, and you'll be fine. Stay away from abrasive soaps, and you'll be okay.
I don’t really think it has a lack of power Yea compared to the last WRX you’d expect they would have bumped up the HP significantly but it’s so incredibly easy to get Hp out of it. Making it such a great car in other aspects is good with me. I guess the only con I have with it is having such a great WRX and not offering an STI version is extremely disappointing. But more than power I’d just wish it had the STI transmission.Bunin also not a HP guy. Just driving dynamics type.
Ive found that the classical muscle car guys actualy are very receptive of the VB. I got no love with VA at all. And ibwant nobs and buttons back for hvac controlls
Con - stiff as hell - for a family man like me going through his mid life crisis and buying this car, I didn't prepare myself (although I was warned) for how stiff it was - my poor family hates it and will not go on long drives with me.
I honestly think it isn’t stiff enough! I completely understand where you are coming from. I would highly recommend getting some coilovers with a spring rate that best suits your comfort! Wider wheels will help to an extent too!
yeah so the engine in the BRZ/86 has had some big issues, and it's a class action, we shall see where it goes. But the numbers of folks effected are pretty low from what the data looks like. None the less, there was an issue with the NA FA24's.
CONS for me 👎 no REV matching and the deal breaker gas mileage ⚡️ NO HYBRID ⚡️Next car for me either new Honda Prelude or next generation Toyota GR86 🙏🏼 and maybe BRZ but no reports Subaru will follow Toyota plans 🤷🏻♂️ It’s 2025 sub - under 25 mpg is unacceptable 🤑
GR86 in automatic transmission does a lot better gas mileage. WRX has GT trim in CVT already 🤷🏻♂️ just pair that with hybrid technology next generation and there you go and you have me as buying customer again 🤑🙋🏼♂️

yeah in theory it's a good out of the box car. Hyundai doesn't seem to like people actually driving them, and they have some issues. In terms of the aftermarket, there just isn't a lot of development yet.

I passed on a 2023 Premium w/ Moonroof & HK system in MGM and I regret it now that the 2024s and up all come with eyesight and the prices went way up.

It’s a tough question, if you are happy keeping it stock forever, it’s a great way to enjoy some of the aspects of the WRX!

I'm in my 60s and I love to drive manual. I drove the CVT version of this WRX and I like the manual much better. It's such a better experience IMO.

Same thing here. I get better gas mileage in this car than I did in my Saturn ion. I get almost 30mpgs

Stiff? The suspension is soft as hell. One of the biggest downsides compared to the STI.
I've read a lot of issues honestly from axle to rtv to poor oil pan and pick up design, valve train issues. Kinda wild compared to the previous model.
I think a lot of these things are blown out of proportion to an extent!

Your thinking of the fa24 in the brz, the wrx has different components, the oil starvation issue is not an issue on the fa24 in the wrx.

Elantra N is a disgusting car IMO. Also, good luck modding it to get the power WRX can
