  • Hello my dear fellow human! We are back in Katolis’s Library to chat about some themes in the Dragon Prince. Callum’s arc is heavily intertwined with power, control, and freedom. Today we’re only chatting about power and control since it has been foreshadowed that he will be puppeted by Aaravos. While it is a theory, it simply makes sense thematically. The event of him becoming a puppet will serve as a catalyst to permanently reject dark magic so that he can gain control of himself. Personal autonomy will simply outweigh the power that dark magic gives him because dark magic ultimately takes more than it gives.
    Check out the short story Deep Below here:

    i love your analysis on Callum’s predicament. he is indeed being manipulated to perform dark magic by Finnegrin, and untimely uses it. this gets his even more influenced to Aarvos’ control.
    i feel like the third time Callum uses dark magic, there will be some even worse consequences

    Great video! I love how you covered the complex handling of how to truly create peace and love. The truth is, healing must be handled delicately. This is why I love the Sunfire Elf plots in Seasons 4 and 5. There are so many wounds that you have to take time and respect for one another, but also learning your own faults. It takes effort for the Katolians (Katolans?) and the Sunfire Elves to be able to peacefully coexist.
    Callum's arc in the Mystery of Aaravos is clear, he must deal with making difficult decisions for the sake of others. He fears not just himself, but also what could happen to those he cares about. And that could potentially lead Callum into Aaravos's hands. Callum could eventually become desperate which could allow Aaravos to whisper in his ear, metaphorically. Callum could have one of the best arcs in the series.

      I couldn’t agree more! I feel like Callum is one of the characters whom the creators always knew what his story would be from the beginning since it’s pretty consistent.

    I love your analysis on Viren’s mentality. I’m regards to him healing Soren, I have a feeling that the reason Kpp’ar was desperate to stop him was more out of concern for Viren, or rather what he worried Viren would become, rather than the spell itself being more horrific than what they usually do as dark mages. The writers confirmed how dark magic amplifies the values and motivations of the user, turning it into an unhealthy obsession. Kpp’ar always knew that Viren wanted to be respected and powerful. So maybe he was afraid that if Viren went through with the spell, it would cause his arrogance and desire for control to grow into something dangerous. After all, what could be more powerful than the ability to prevent or reverse death? I could imagine Kpp’ar repeating Sarai’s line of, “This could be a very slippery slope”. And with that brief clip of them fighting in the season 6 teaser, I’m certain I’m going to get my answer soon!

      Do you think that Ezran, the guy who defended his mother killer, will forgive Viren?

    • @LauraM96829
      @LauraM96829 20 дней назад +1

      @@shivangparikh2933 Possibly. It’s going to depend a lot on whether Viren can conceive Ezran he’s changed and truly regrets his actions. He only forgave Zubeia because she expressed remorse and he understands that she was mainly acting out of hurt and grief. It’s kind of like what they say in this video at 16:27, where the boys will have to chose to find strength in forgiveness.

    • @LauraM96829
      @LauraM96829 20 дней назад

      @@shivangparikh2933 I had a theory that Viren’s staff was made from a corrupted qusar diamond. Maybe Aaravos stole one of those staffs and corrupted it before giving it to Ziard. And maybe Viren used Star magic to save Soren as a child. My guess it’s the same spell Callum wants to use for Rayla’s parents, which can restore physical bodies to separated spirits. Maybe Viren captures Soren’s soul right as he passed and gave him a new body free of illness.

      @@shivangparikh2933 Uhh, Ezran forgives absolutely everyone all the time
      He didn't even care that Pyrah,the Sun-Fire dragon from season two, set fire to a town. So,why would he ever stop now?

    4:44 I think one of the writers confirmed that Deep Below was foreshadowing for a future plot point regarding Ezran, similar to how Strangers is meant to be a sample of the more meaningful interactions between Soren and Viren they promised we’ll see. In regards to Deep Below, I think the main takeaway is that Ezran is still angry about how his father was killed. He’s trying his best to put it behind him, but it still hurts.
    I have a feeling this is going to come up when Rayla and Callum end up freeing the coined people. In particular, when Runnan gets out and Ezran is face to face with the man who killed Harrow, and who tried to kill him. And Soren might also see freeing Runnan as a potential threat to Ezran, since he knows how Moonshadow Assassins will see their mission through no matter what. So Soren might feel that Runnan will still want to kill Ezran. Not to mention, Soren was there during the night of the attack, and probably killed at least one of Runnan’s teammates. Also Soren’s dad was to one who put him in the coin after Soren helped capture him, so I imagine Runnan won’t be thrilled to see him and Rayla so close.

      Runnan may not know that Viren & Soren are related. They don't look much alike.

      @@shivangparikh2933 hard to say...ultimately Ezran is the king and will really ever be the only one in control of the situation regarding Viren especially now that he is the ruler and king. The life of Viren will be in his hands. It's hard to tell if he will go through revenge and undergo the same errors as his father after pushing behind all that darkness, like it was alluded to in the novel and Zubeia said, as proven true by Ezran's own actions....or if he will make the harder choice and learn from the mistakes of his father and choose forgiveness and peace....again the path to peace, is a different and difficult path to follow and as much as I want to truly believe Ezran will choose to spare his life, the temptation is still there, like the one for dark magic there always was for Viren....we will only truly know when the actual opportunity presents itself and the stars will allign in season 6

    It's a major character shift (borderline assassination) for Ezran not to forgive Runaan. Ezran defended Thunder's honor, the dragon that killed his mother & get very friendly with Zubeia, the dragon that ordered Ezran's & Harrow's deaths. It would be somewhat hypocritical for Ezran to change like that. Also Ezran is 11 not 12. He said he was 9 when harrow died & gave the speech 2 years latter so he's 11 book 5/6.

      Do you think that since Ezran defended Avizandum and Zubeia, he will forgive Viren?

    • @DragonGoddess18
      @DragonGoddess18 11 дней назад

      I think Runaan still needs to apologize before we can begin thinking about whether or not Ezran will forgive.
      Runaan was a grown man in season 1, he's still a grown man now. It costs next to nothing on his part to act like it. Besides, it would be refreshing for someone else from Xadia to actually put in the work of establishing peace instead putting it all on the humans

    Wait did callum used the dark magic to free his friends?
    That snake scene is strange and what I did understand is Callum used any dark spell he got just to get the oceon arcanum that's how he got the sky one after all.
    Sometimes I think he stole a bit of zym energy but that's too evil but he clearly know how to get an arcanum but he didn't tell anyone
