The Dragon Prince Season 6 Was Amazing

  • Sorry this video is considerably late but here we are! Another Dragon Prince Season, the penultimate in fact (until it was later revealed after I had recorded that there could be a whole-other arc coming but that’s for a different video). To say it took me by surprise would be an understatement. It’s of no secret amongst the fandom as of late that this was a stellar season after the two previous failing to live up to the first three. An opinion of which I very much fall into. However, it’s safe to say that this season very much lived up to this series former glory and may ver well be the best season yet. Lot’s to talk about. Enjoy.

Her choosing Runaan made sense since her parents were at peace and had each other while Runaan wasn’t ok and was alone. Who knows, lol. I want to see more of him, plus we know that he played an important role in both Claudia and Soren’s lives, despite neither of them ever really getting to know him… which makes me wonder “what did they actually know about him, and how old were they exactly when Viren trapped him in the coin?” Sorry! I really loved Viren and Soren’s interactions. You can tell the writers put a lot of careful thought into their respective arcs. How Soren at first refuses to say anything to him, wanting him to feel the same cold rejection he put him through for years. And then Viren admits to have been cruel to him, and he finally tells Soren he’s proud of him, only for Soren to reject him, believing all of it to just be another lie. And then Viren admits that he doesn’t deserve forgiveness, and just wants to give Soren closure. And the flashbacks showing what he did to save Soren were amazing. The voice acting for Viren was incredible this entire season.

    • @everythinggirly916
      @everythinggirly916 Месяц назад +20

      Yes, we finally got the interaction between them we'd been waiting for. Viren's arc was honestly my favorite aspect of this season, next to Aaravos's backstory. I especially thought the part where Soren got angry at him was very realistic because the last time Viren was in prison, he gaslighted him.

  • @bluebird1914
    @bluebird1914 Месяц назад +156

    Terry deserves better if I'm being honest, we've constantly seen him be an absolute green flag forest of an elf, while Claudia does like... Fuck all. He's honestly starting to remind me of Luka from Miraculous where you're just like "Dude you're great and all, but you need some self-respect" If I was him, i absolutely would've dumped Claudia when she started trying to do the ritual for Aaravos. As much as Aaravos has justifiable reasons for doing what he does, Terry is very right when he points out that the ends don't really justify the means when Aaravos has literally caused a war and countless deaths by this point. Also Aaravos is literally drawing a parallel between him as a father, and Viren, in an attempt to play on Claudia's heartstrings in order to manipulate her, I'm willing to bet that Terry sees right through that and that's why he pointed it out to her. I do believe that Aaravos wasn't lyinf, but at the same time... I could see him pulling a Rick Sanchez and making up a fake sad backstory just to trap someone.
    Aaravos' backstory is definitely interesting to me. Like this whole time... I thought they were going in more of a "He was imprisoned because he was getting too big for his boots" type direction, and not one of a grieving father who doesn't care who he hurts. I do like it, but it's still kinda jarring just looking at this guy who you've come to know as a charismatic "I know I'm hot shit" manipulator, turn out to have once been a very sweet and compassionate man. I mean real talk, kids can definitely be different from their upbringing, but I'm definitely willing to bet that a lot of his daughter's kind nature is due to how she was brought up. Also if his backstory is genuine, it does make me question his involvement with Claudia though. If anything, I would've thought that he'd view the whole "father-daughter bond" as sacred, especially since Claudia and his daughter are both magically talented and kind individuals who stick out from the crowd. Plus at this point, I really do have to wonder if the ends justfiy the means. Far as we've seen, Aaravos isn't trying to take vengeance on the people who killed his daughter, or even that he's trying to bring her back. Bro is literally just starting shit because he can.
    I'm very intrigued about the dark magic plot point with Callum though. Maybe it was just coincidence but I definitely noticed how in this season, there seemed to be a reoccuring theme of having to use dark magic in dire circumstances:
    -Viren used dark magic to cure Soren
    -Claudia almost had to use it to save herself from being attacked
    -Callum wasn't going to use it, but he did reference having to use it for something dire.
    I get the impression that they're setting up Callum having to use dark magic again because there's no other option. Perhaps Rayla almost dies and we get to see her finally apologise to Callum as he gets corrupted by dark magic, as he casts a spell to save her?
    Sorren and Viren's whole thing was heartbreaking, I really wish that Viren would've given Sorren those papers. But at the same time I get why he didn't and why Soren didn't want to see him, Viren is genuine, but he really does come off as though he's just trying to excuse his actions rather than genuinely apologise.
    Also can we just take a second to talk about how cold Ezran was when he saw Viren?
    When Ezran was like "Good, because you don't deserve it." I was like "God damn Ezran, that's cold, justified, but cold"
    Props to Ezran though. We've been seeing more and more how he's a much more grounded and action-ready ruler than his father was.
    He still fumbles, like how talking to Karem was never going to work, but also he's like 12. I can see him getting more realistic about things by the time he's Callum's age.

      So true with Terry, though. He's the kind of good guy that believes in everyone and tries to fix the people he likes and then stays in a toxic relationship because of it. Not that Claudia is using him on purpose, but she's certainly not doing anything for him anymore.

    • @q94141
      @q94141 Месяц назад +17

      I feel like Terry insisting on sticking with Claudia through thick and thin, regardless of the lines she crosses, would be more compelling and understandable if there was a flashback or two shown about how the two first met and became a couple. Maybe Claudia was the first person to show him love and kindness when everybody else had rejected him for who he was. That could’ve been a good established reason for why he’s so devoted to her, since he would have absolutely no one else in his life.
      Also, I think everything Aaravos has done till this point, mainly in how he sowed chaos between the Elves and Dragons and taught humans how to use dark magic in the first place, IS him getting revenge on the Startouch Elves that killed his daughter. He probably wants to wreck their precious “cosmic order,” which their insistence on maintaining without question got his innocent little girl killed. Plus, he did go out of his way to directly get some extra-deserved payback on Sol Regem, the snitch who sold out his daughter in the first place. Aaravos clearly relished in the old dragon’s suffering more than he has with any of his other victims.

    • @bluebird1914
      @bluebird1914 Месяц назад +5

      @@q94141 It absolutely would. I do imagine that that's what they were trying to hint at with how Terry is trans and how he wasn't really accepted in his tribe for that, but some more blunt conformation would've be nice.
      Because while that's probably the reason, Terry having no self-respect is also a pretty solid reason here given what we've seen of him.
      I also keep wondering if they're going to set up some kind of arc where Terry finally says enough and leaves. Maybe they don't, but also I get this feeling everytime I see them together that it is going to happen so idk.
      Yeah that's a good point, more surprised though that he hasn't tried giving magic to more humans though. Would've thought that doing the exact same thing that got his daughter killed would from his perspective, be just an extra "Go fuck yourself" to the other elves. Like a "Well if that's sooooo important to you, then how about I just fuck it up?"
      To be fair, Sol Regum has literally been nothing but an asshole to everyone.
      That case was for sure revenge, but also bro deserved that regardless.

    I sobbed multiple times in this season. Claudia's voice actress in particular was absolutely heart-breaking.
    The first time I burst into tears was when Claudia was begging Viren not to return to Katolis. That was some of the greatest voice acting in the entire series. The way she built up the scene, trying to reason with Viren and getting increasingly distressed until she collapsed into incoherent, screaming sobs conveyed so much raw, genuine, and unfiltered pain that she reminded me of Azula's hysterical weeping at the end of ATLA. But unlike Azula's heart-breaking but relatively short sobbing scene, Claudia's scene was drawn out. It just doesn't let up and squeezes every last drop of rage, confusion, sorrow and desperation out of the moment. Having to work herself up into such an emotional state must have been exhausting for the voice actress but she delivered it perfectly.
    Then I was sobbing again when Viren sacrificed himself. His last words "I am a servant" were devastating. It was a perfect last stand, finally got rid of Sol Regem for good, and ended Viren's character arc in the most heart-breaking and fitting way possible. And when Claudia found her dad's body, her sobbing was almost as devastating as it was when Viren left her. Almost. Her voice acting in Startouched was so good that she'd already achieved perfection.
    Finally, and most surprisingly, I was sobbing when Aaravos lost his daughter. I wasn't expecting to feel sorry for him. Honestly, I didn't WANT to feel sorry for him. I'm one of those people who didn't want him to be sympathetic because I loved that he was basically the Satan of The Dragon Prince universe. Just keep him pure evil and I would have been completely satisfied.
    However, the sheer CRUELTY of those Star Touched Elves, forcing Aaravos into a no win situation just because Leola had the audacity to befriend mortals, makes me want him to slaughter the lot of them. They blathered some bullshit about Leola "breaking the cosmic order" but at the end of the day, what they did was outright EVIL. Leola was a child who didn't know any better and they outright murdered her. There's no other word for it. It was cold blooded murder. Even the Merciful One, who showed a bit of compassion by trying to comfort Aaravos, stood aside and allowed the others to do it.
    I don't want Aaravos to be redeemed. But I definitely want him to get revenge on those cosmic monsters. All of them. Maybe let the Merciful One live since she wasn't as evil as the others but I want to rest of them DEAD! Preferably in the same state of desperation and terror that Leola was in during her final moments.

      @@meganschulz3632 Racquel Belmonte's voice acting sounded as real and heart-breaking as Grey DeLisle's. And keep in mind that she also had to carry the take for longer because the scene was drawn out as Viren hugged Claudia and walked away. Any voice actress who rivals Grey fucking DeLisle, a legend in the voice acting world, is exceptional.
      Also, compare that to when Erik Dellums is crying. Whenever he delivers any of Aaravos' dialogue, he's perfect. He could even make lines that seem forced on paper flow perfectly with my favourite example being:
      "What happened to your beloved mate? Who disappeared."
      The last 2 words were completely unnecessary and spelled out something that was already obvious, but Dellums still made them sound like something a real person would say.
      However, there's one thing Erik Dellums can't do and that's make Aaravos' crying sound real.

      Their sin will be their eventual downfall to the lower circles of Hell.

    The fact that everything this season went exactly to Aaravos’s plan was great and I love how dark magic mirrors being corrupted by darkness as he was originally driven by love but now is driven by revenge. The fact that his daughter was the “unicorn” that gave humans magic was cool to. As for Viren’s death I think it was great seeing him return to the man he was before being consumed by darkness and sacrificing himself to save his people because Soren pleaded for him to save them was great

    The Dragon Prince in-universe lore is pretty darn good and interesting in a history perspective.
    All of the major events that has happened in Xadia so far, from the assassination of king Harrow, to the recent destruction on Katolis. Are gonna someday be ancient history to future generations and no doubt be contributing to Xadia lore.
    Callum, Ezran and Rayla's long journey of returning Zym back to his mother would be an epic tale to be passed down to generations, the places they visited would be landmarks and even popular tourist attractions.
    Its kinda cool to think that in many years till then, in a modern era of Xadia, young students would be taught about every significant event that had unraveled since then.

No, what happened doesnt excuse any heinous acts, but he's also justified (in my opinion). How many of us could say we wouldmt start a villain revenge ark for the one we love, if put in the same position? I'm beyond excited for the next season, because everything's changed now that he's out of his prison. And did anyone else notice that his house in the flashback is the same as inside the pearl? And all the letter sequence was prob one of my favourites from the whole show. After season 4 and 5 disaster (being season 5 a lil better), season 6 just hits the spot, showing a few times how things for the MCs not always go as they would like, like the need for rayla to choose between her biological fathers and runnan because theres no enough stones, or Avaros being liberated of his prision although all of the efforts to stop him, which shows a more mature and realistic way of developing the story, backing up from the childish style we saw in season 4. Aaravos' backstory and his daughter being killed IN FRONT OF HIM? Sol Regem dying by eating a guy then choking and burning? (Admittedly, though, I didn't really care for that one. I agree SCREW THAT GUY!) Damn.
    Aaravos' daughter in general... just... ugh... a punch in the gut. The way she was all "Daddy I'm scared!" and he tries his hardest to stay calm to make her last moments easier, then him breaking down was so painful to watch. I know this is very likely not going to happen, but I want Leola to be revived. Or at least let her executors get their justice. She was a CHILD. Not to mention they are partially responsible for what Aaravos became, and the torment he inflicted upon the world.
    But with dark magic and corruption, I'm not sure what they are trying to say. So Viren only used it because he was desperate to save Soren, but everyone is acting like he made the wrong choice like he should've let Soren die... come on, DON'T tell me any other parent wouldn't do the same thing if they were in his shoes. And dark magic saved the day in episode 8. Also, side note but if Lissa was so scared of Viren then why didn't she try to take the kids with her?
    But yeah, greats season overall. Hope they continue this streak with season 7 and forward!

      And they,of course, agree to have Dark magic back to keep Soren alive. Rayla would realize that she was being stubborn like Viren once was and understand that that did more harm than good.
      At least, that's my theory on how season 7 should go

      @@DragonGoddess18 There's also the thing in a season 2 flashback where Viren and Harrow agree to kill a magma titan to grow more food from a terrible famine. I get it, lives are lives, but it was either the magma titan or 100,000 people losing their life. And let's not forget how Sol Regem burned a city for using dark magic, even though they were desperate to stay alive and dark magic was their only solution. Honestly, the Xadians are the problem, especially when you consider that they killed Leola for giving humans magic, even though it was organic.

      Also, when thinking about that season 2 flashback, it just proved to me that Harrow wasn't as smart as he thought he was. To starve your own citizens to help your neighbors is stupid and frankly,I was on Viren's side. You gotta put logic above being idealistic. More importantly, there was no Primal magic solution to it so the Magma titan's heart was their best solution in helping feed 100,000 innocent people. Especially since Harrow was the one who made a bad situation worse

    TL;DR AT THE BOTTOM:
    point on the voice acting -- especially this season, it was phenomenal. as an aspiring VA, i do a lot of studying when it comes to pros, and jack de sena (callum) and racquel belmonte (claudia) have really shown us that, this season and throughout the series. claudia's absolute hysterics when it came to viren must have been *extremely* difficult to pull off for racquel -- claudia is now an expressive morally grey all-or-nothing personality, and seeing her cry and scream as much as she did can only be portrayed with voice acting. now, to jack de sena and the absolutely beauty of his subtlety. if you've seen atla you know him as sokka, but especially this season where they depict callum in a near "emo" type of way, notably the first time around after when kosmo told him he took the wrong pearl and suggested that he try to redeem himself. his "nope, can't do it, i'm sorry" felt so absolutely human. with those few words, there are so many emotions going into that one line. justification, sadness, disappointment, embarrassment, failure.... jack de sena's subtlety in his voice work in general is absolutely incredible. another line i'll note was in season 2 (i think) where he says to rayla "i can't do anything!" though it may have seemed like another line, the slight crack in his voice on the downbeat (suffix "ing") along with the stiffness the line was said with (no inflection in voice) showed his frustration, inferiority complex, anger, resentment, in just one line. (sorry. i'm a big fan of jack de sena)
    TL;DR: jack de sena is really good at subtlety in voice acting and racquel belmonte did a great job with claudia's expository emotions this season.

I hate what they did to his daughter (and uhm wonder who the wife is) but also love that ends going to do everything just as revenge for his own daughter. Id be happy if either one wins

    The thing I like the most in dragon prince are the parallels between Callum and viren like the first time callum used dark magic he used it because he otherwise felt useless and Viren screaming into the mirror he feels powerless and useless and things like them both especially in the later seasons saying so many simular things or even just that callums Robe looks pretty simular to s1 Viren and I just love that the show gives these subtle hints and know that some viewers will pick it up
    And tbf I kinda wanna see Callum go all dark mode simular to Viren in S3 maybe even a guilt trip for other characters like his brother kinda overseeing him for some time (hes King but still), his GF leaving for years with no word and also him feeling alone, forgotten and left could make for a AWESOME story line if done right

    Am I the only one in this fandom who just really doesn’t get the hate for Seasons 4 and 5? Like, people criticize them for being “too lighthearted” but they forget that The Dragon Prince has ALWAYS been a kids’ show, and seasons 4 and 5 introducing more darkness meant they HAD to also introduce more lightness or else it would be too scary for its target demographic. The show literally CAN’T be all darkness all the time, guys. Also, Terry is the second best character after Soren, and I WILL die on this hill.

  • @andrewmalinowski6673
    @andrewmalinowski6673 Месяц назад +1

    While there were low points in seasons 4 and 5, I wouldn't say the entirety of the previous seasons were bad as there were definitely moments that stuck out like signposts that were later referenced in other seasons. The voice acting was mostly excellent such as Aaravos' and Claudia's pained crying and screaming as well as the fact "Moment of Truth" recreates the reunion as both Rayla and Callum have moved closer to bridging the "broken" relationship after her return in 4x01 and choosing to instead go from an awkward "Hey, I'm back" to admitting their feeling solidified how far they've come.
    Seeing small moments like Callum and Rayla trying to reconnect helped show that they were building towards the confession in "Moment of Truth" while Terry's devotion to Claudia seemed like the only thing that actually kept her grounded instead of focusing on a "quick fix," especially when he called out how Aaravos' actions "may have started out good" before becoming dark. The fact his last interaction with Viren was of being treated almost like a son showed how far Viren had come when in Season 4 he'd merely looked at him as an annoyance, and this proves Viren felt capable of leading Claudia "out of the darkness" even if he knew she was becoming lost in darkness

He runs through the bushes and to find Claudia already collapsed on the ground then we get to see him looking after her.

    This season does do a lot right when compared to the past two seasons, don’t get me wrong. A much better story, character moments, voice acting, all amazing.
    BUT a major problem that really bothered me and has affected the past two seasons, is the noticeably more wooden animation. Just compare Callum facial expressions when he yelled Raylas name after she fell off the storm spire in the third season, and when he calls for her to get out of the ship while it is sinking in the sixth season. Callums face shows wayy more emotion in the storm spire scene, very clearly distraught by what happened in front of him. But in the ship scene, his expression is hardly different than what it is in every other scene, despite still being in a tense, likely still life threatening situation. In short there’s less expression and emotion shown in the animation. Not zero, but noticeably less, and it really bothers me

    4:13 Honestly, I was more than a little put off by the way Rayllum got back together. They basically said, "It's Callum's fault that there has been any drama to begin with." Like what?
    If I could rewrite their reconciliation, it would be something like this:
    *Rayla is lying on her hammock while Callum is sitting on it.*
    *Rayla:* Callum, aren't ye goin' to bed?
    *Callum:* Rayla, I- The truth I've seen was that... I don't have to be afraid anymore.
    *Rayla:* Of Aaravos?
    *Callum:* ...Of love.
    *Rayla sits up:* W-What d'ye mean?
    *Callum sighs:* When you returned to Katolis, the anger I had felt after you left returned too. But... we've been through so much together since then. And yet, I didn't even want to share a blanket with you.
    *Rayla:* Well, I can't blame ye.
    *Callum:* Huh?
    *Rayla:* Callum, I left ye cos I thought I had no choice. I thought ye'd understand and that we cud get back together but... Now I see that leavin' ye wis the worst mistake of ma life.
    *Callum:* Hey, that's all in the past. We're here now.
    *Rayla stands up:* Even so, I never told ye how sorry I wis. I wis so afraid you'd die cos of me that I lied to ye and broke yer heart...
    *Callum stands up:* It's okay. I know what fear can make you do. *Callum steps closer.* But you've seen the truth too, haven't you?
    *Rayla steps closer:* Yes. A wise person told me that when ye trust the one ye love, ye are stronger together.
    *Callum holds her hand:* I love you Rayla.
    *Rayla:* I love ye too, Callum.

    When I saw the episode titled, the Red Wedding, it gave me chills remembering GoT, but I was pleasantly surprised when they did the bait and switch with Sol Regem, and the Sun Priest controlling him being Aaravos’s puppet. I love how they reveal how much Aaravos planned ahead for his return, from swapping the quasar diamond on the crown with a fake and putting the real one in the staff he gave to the humans centuries ago, to how he figured Sol Regem would be so arrogant he would rather have his wings back over his eyes, it being a metaphor for not only is he blind physically, but his own arrogance blinds him to being manipulated by Aaravos. It seems the Sunfire Elves and Sun dragon’s biggest weakness is their arrogance, which thematically makes sense. The previous Sunfire Elf Queen allowed Viren to get close to the source of their power, destroying their city and making the nation refugees, to Kareem’s arrogance blinding to Aarovos’s machinations. My love for the show faded after I was disappointed with season 4, but this season has me excited for what will come next.
