Can't beat those big skies especially star filled nights. I wanted a Sunday lunch at the 5 miles but it was heaving with people when I went so I had dry bread and water and cried myself to sleep instead Nick. Such is boat life..ha ha
Nice vlog Will. You need to book yourself in for an intense massage for your shoulder and knee. it's called old age 🤣 I'm on the same journey, went for a run yesterday and ache today.🤣 Acupuncture also helps, check it out, better than popping pills. I like the way you seem to choose more remote places and not sure if you will get through. You definately like to challenge yourself, guess it gives you a buzz when you reach your goal. 💚
The oldest surviving stained glass windows can be seen in Augsburg (Germany); they date from about 1050. In France, the art of medieval glazing reached a peak, as can be seen in Chartres Cathedral. This had an important influence on other European countries.
@@NarrowboatWill except that that is wrong. There has been evidence of stained glass in monasteries in England as early as the 7th century. The earliest actual record of stained glass being commissioned was in France in 675CE. It is true that this glass no longer exists, but it was visible then. All a bit more than a thousand years!

I’m really enjoying seeing parts of the great Ouse where I haven’t been( which is quite a lot lol) I’ve only been to the lock downstream from buckden and I’ve had me boat two years !!!!! Need to get some exploring done
There was some stained glass 1,000 years ago. It was new then, but they didn't have a full range of colours and some of the colours they did have (reds in particular) were unstable. What you showed us in Ely was later, when they could produce yellows and orange. It is clearly pretty stable too. There may be a bit of fading in some of the colours - it's impossible to tell - but if so, it's clearly not much.
Will. face it. It's called 'getting old". Wait until you try to get up from a chair and find out your "your get up, got up and left you behind". lol Just take a few Tylenol. Just don't "give up". Keep moving is the answer. Or "grin and bear it". Take care.
The pub at Upware is the "Five Miles from Anywhere, No Hurry"! You can also hook up to the mains at one of the electricity points on the mooring - a £1.50 card bought from the pub will see you through 48 hours.
OK Will, Once again I feel smacked once again that you film something that you just ignore. lol. at 6:10 there is a guy pumping away on a bike tire pump maybe. Something I also have never seen, after 3 years of watching a lot of narrowboat videos. great vid tho. thanks
If you have queries or things you need to check about the lodes, minimal list have completed the Gt Ouse and all the lodes. An ideal place to see where’s good to moor and any pitfalls.
Sunderland was internationally renowned for making stained glass in Bede's time (7th century). Don't think they could manage anything on that scale though.
Will, where did you get the lock key that you showed us. The key that opens the door to the lock control buttons? Time 12:54 in video. I don't have one. Many thanks.
Thanks for mentioning my full handle name in the credits! It is so uplifting for my self esteem ;-) You seem so determined about your boat maintainance, your body could definitely use some serious attention, too! There's a lot you can do yourself, calling a body mechanic is your last resort, I'd say dear Will. How about practicing some Tai Chi, to become aware of what you do to/with your body? I wonder what your former Asian partner would do with a disturbed body? Well, anyways.... - enjoy your Road To Nowhere (Talking Heads), haha!
I don’t usually like modern architecture but that bridge was stunning.Sounds like you could do with some Radiol (horse lineament) dilute to 10% otherwise it takes your skin off🧐.Pity you could not get down to Wicken Fen it’s a lovely nature reserve.
The bridge was opened in 2018, bypasses the south of Ely and saves a snarl up with lorries. The bridge crosses the River Great Ouse as well as the railway line. The bypass also saves traffic going under the most bashed railway bridge in the country but sadly, despite much signage, that bridge still gets bashed regularly and to the delight of locals takes the top off many a transit van or motorhome.
I haven't got one, it's at my daughter's. Glad I joined because there's loads of lovely moorings. Thankyou for offering Shane. If you see me I'll have one. Cheers
Stained glass has been used for thousands of years, beginning with the Ancient Romans and Egyptians, who produced small objects made from coloured glass. Stained glass windows in Britain can be traced back to the 7th century, with some early examples found in churches and monasteries
Was wondering when you moor up next to another boat, can you just do that or need permission first? Don't think it is wierd to get excited for some peace and quiet.
Much of the stained glass in Ely Cathedral has come from other churches, including in France. That’s why a lot of it doesn’t fit and for example has plain panels down the sides or top and bottom.
OK my neighbour keeps telling me to buy a whole white cabbage, scoop out the middle, place whole empty cabbage around knee and strapping with a bandage, she swears by it....phew

Wow loads of history in your family then. How interesting. Thankyou John.

Blimey can they get them boats any closer to each other at fish n duck at the 7:30 mark?
I know. I'm sure I would like being that close. No privacy.
Unless it’s just for storing them yeah it wouldn’t be good at all for privacy
cool vid on travel on cut thanks lee
Thankyou Lee that's great to hear.

You have to register with the lock keeper at Denver sluice and pay £15. That's what I did maybe you can get one from EV direct Keith. Cheers.

I go to Wicken Fen Tony. It's bloody beautiful. The Reach now that got me. Stay tuned. I'm all healed now apart from my golf shoulder. Ha ha

The lodes are stunning but Reach is something else. Ha ha
I believe you can turn up to 60 ft at Wicken
I think you're right Ian. Thanks
If I’d known I could have slipped you a spare goba boat sticker that I’ve got for this year 😜 nudge nudge wink wink

Will - while you are in the area Cambridge have a free WIFI service that you can connect to even in Ely
Yes I've tried in Ely I couldn't connect. Just past Ely on the Goba mooring is a very strong. So strong it'll take your paint off. Ha ha Cheers Ian.

@@NarrowboatWill then of course, you can ask anybody from the church who might be wandering around ,for a precise date about the stained glass

Did you ever get that super thanks working? I think it was you who said you could not find where the money was going.
I still can't find where the money went. I've checked my banks, PayPal. No idea. Bloody annoying.

Don't think it is wierd to get excited for some peace and quiet.
No i don't just moor up next to another boat. In London they do but generally not unless it's a mate or something. Love peace and quite.
23 quid a year that not bad at all
just spent 17 quid on 24 buds mmmm

That makes sense Jo. Thanks for the info.
I think that Cromwell's side in the Civil war smashed much stained glass out. And cancelled Christmas.
I think you're right John. Cheers
