    I got an outrageous quote for Indow Window inserts acoustic grade. The price per unit was basically more than professionally installed highest quality triple pane window which was quoted at about $973 including labor.

    • @TheCraftsmanBlog
      @TheCraftsmanBlog  8 лет назад +1

      The acoustic inserts run about $30 per SF delivered and installed (but it varies by dealer and location). I will say that a triple paned replacement window installed for $973 is not very high quality. The window salesman is likely pulling your leg because I see quotes all the time for high end double paned replacement windows installed running $1700-$1900 each. And they don't beat Indow's acoustic blocking potential.

    • @dongshassy
      @dongshassy 8 лет назад

      My window square footage is about 15 sq ft, if you can do the math, you would realize that the quote I got was outrageous based on the $30/ sq ft
      Also, the STC rating on the new window with silent guard technology I got the estimate for is 43. That is incredibly better than the Indow window insert which has no STC rating provided.
      I am an informed buyer who does his homework very well, including independent verification, thus I cannot be easily duped.

      +dongshassy I wouldn't assume you are easily duped and I'm not trying to dupe you. There are a myriad of products out there for noise abatement and sometimes Indow is the best option and sometimes it's not. The Indow does not have an STC rating, you're correct, but the acoustic grade insert does block 18.9 db which is nothing to sneeze at. If you're happy with your new windows and the price you paid for them then that's what matters.

      @@dongshassy Indow Window inserts have an STC or 42-45 when used with existing double-pane windows. I know this is 4 years late, but I wanted to correct this guys post for anyone who is browsing.

    They're actually designed for seasonal use. They are individually labelled and also sell storage sleeves as an add on if you want. The main thing is to be careful about scratching the acrylic when storing or installing them.

    I want to use this in a bathroom that has a window in the shower. The tile is all around the window sill, but not the window frame. Do you think it would keep water out of the window frame?

    Where can I buy the compression tube? The indow window looks really nice but awfully expensive, so I'd like to give it a try.

      The compression tubing they use on Indows is their own proprietary design and unfortunately it can’t be purchased separately.

    • @TheCraftsmanBlog

      See how easy the install was? Simply pull the insert out when you want the window open. Depending on your region they likely work best to have them installed seasonally in the times when you won’t be opening the window regularly.

      Huge improvement in reducing outdoor noise on a busy street. The other reason was energy efficiency. Big improvement in air infiltration with the Indow.

    He mentioned one big problem but didn't mention any work-around. That's blinds that are set into the window. I live in an old neighborhood with most houses having the old double-hung type window that he was covering in his attic. Everyone I know has the 'set into the window' type of blinds. Either old venetian style or the many honeycombed or wood or faux-wood venetian-type blinds. All mount on the inside making these impossible to use from what I can see.

    • @TheCraftsmanBlog
      @TheCraftsmanBlog  6 лет назад

      We run into that problem a lot and the simplest solution is moving the blinds out just a hair. The inserts only require 5/8” of unobstructed flat space and there is usually enough to accommodate the Indow and the blinds. In a worst case scenario we can move the blinds outside the window well onto the head casing. Always a way!

    THE PRICE IS CRAZY FOR A PIECE OF PLEXI ! !

    • @TheCraftsmanBlog
      @TheCraftsmanBlog  6 лет назад +2

      Totally agree if it was just for a piece of plexi, but when you add a lifetime warranty, custom laser tailoring, and a proprietary compression tube that seals the window against drafts better than anything on the market it starts to make sense why the price is what it is.
      You can always make your own version for cheap (which I have done in the past) but it’s just not the same. Just my 2 cents!
