What has worked best for me is keeping a list of things I think I want to buy, then waiting a week or two before actually shopping. In most cases, I don't even remember why I wanted that thing by that time! 😊

I have observed that, throughout the pandemic, when we were forced to shop online, we got used to doing so. But, we have now pushed the limits of that experience, and are tending towards a more social shopping experience once again. We are longing to share our activities with others, eat common meals together again, and become healthy in mind and body once again.

I've given up driving, partly to save money and partly to stop contributing to the environmental crisis. You and Brian seem to get around pretty well on public transport and just walking. I admire that and aspire to be more like you guys! Maybe a video on how you manage your transportation needs would be interesting?

Ana, thank you for another calm and thoughtful video. I do not do "no buy" either, but I do shop online for things I cannot buy in my town. There is a small food shop nearby where I can buy things I need urgently, otherwise I do one of two things: I go into town (half an hour away) perhaps once every three of four weeks, and I stock up maybe every two or three weeks with an online grocery shop. I do not buy things on impulse. I buy only things I have thought about for at least a few days. This is what works for me.

A wonderful, philosophical video ♥♥♥ I agree 100% !!! And having been a person with an addiction problem (bulimia) I completely share your attitude and your thoughts about "strict resctrictions": they are not only the wrong ( = not a) solution to a problem, they might be an indication of a persistent problem (i.e.addiction) too. The only problem I see, in your reasoning, is about shopping in real shops, beacause of the gradual disappearence of them: I'm still priviledged to live in a city where real shops still exist, but even here, in Rome, they are fewer and fewer and some specific kind of shops tend to disappear... there is what we could call a "physical pressure" towards shopping online...

Actually i have so much stuff/hobby projects that i am stressed because i realize i won't have time to use/play with/enjoy all of them. A kid with too many toys. And still buy more.

I would call myself an Optimalist - I just have enough to survive and to thrive but still to enjoy my life. I picked up crocheting a few months ago which I am loving a lot, but that means I have to buy yarn and crochet hooks and after I completed a crochet project, that is another item added to my home. I only buy my clothes if necessary in 2nd hand / charity shops. Sometimes though I am too hard with myself I think. I don't have many clothes, but I can see that the T-shirts which I own (and bought 2nd hand) are quite worn out already - certain spots you can see through the fabric, the elastan/acrylic fibers are coming out and that's a point where I think to myself that I should really replace them. The other part in my head tells me though that it's still ok to wear them at home or that nobody will notice the "tear and wear" spots.

I always enjoy your insightful videos ! Also the ones about your wardrobe !!! In this one I may differ a bit from your and others’ opinions. Although I do some local shopping in my small town, when it’s about bigger towns/cities, online shopping works best for me. In terms of being selective & buy only what I need/reasonably. But I am well aware that may be because I have general anxiety disorder : physical places and too much choice and people around is always a problem for me to focus. I am on the minimalist side and this is one of the lessons I learned during covid : shopping online (clothes in particular) gives me much more clarity and also this is how I found brands that work for my tall frame which has resulted in wardrobe that fits me better, more satisfaction with fewer items, therefore more money for quality and even more satisfaction and more self confidence. So this my own little freedom :) … along with less social medias !!

Although I support the idea of shopping in stores, for those of us with disabilities, this can be really challenging. I have decided to do my grocery shopping myself, but it is very difficult. I often run out of oxygen before I can get out of the store. If you have any ideas for those of us with disabilities, it would be appreciated.

Can u recommend more info, books, blogs about how restrictive behavior triggers addiction prone people. I knew this, I just did not have words for it , as soon as I or someone impose something to me.. I go against that, many times ruining good outcomes.
