Would you use it, if you are going to tile over existing tile?

How many years have you used the underlayment in this video? Curious about long term use vs the cement board.

Found you from your reels on instagram. Like your stuff but please cut the background music. Lets just hear you talk and work and no theatrical background music the whole time. Keep up the good work!

i don’t like it. i’ll tell you why.
it’s hard plastic, and thin-set needs something to bite into.
like when you paint a shiny surface that paint peels off. just like the paint tray liners, that doest let the paint penetrate ana it peels off. it’s hard no-porous shiny plastic. no good !
that stata liner or whatever it’s called is not porous at all and won’t bond with thin-set.
the tiles may go down ok but i’d bet that everyone that uses that stuff will hear about the tiles popping up or cracking.
that membrane was designed for concrete subfloors that tend to has moisture and crack. that membrane will allow the concrete to move without effecting the tile floor above it, BUT, i still think the tiles will pop after some time.
i installed tile thirty years ago on many jobs over plywood and it still looks good and still set strong.
stata may may bring in some money for the company that makes it, but i think it’s going to bite them in the ass at some point.
that’s my story and i’m sticking to it.
    cheers !

thats the whole point. The thinset doesnt adhere to the plastic but the shape of the dimples lock the thinset in, so is a mechanical fasten as aposed to a glued fasten
