- The Sync4 media screen is excellent. It features an enhanced voice assistant, connected navigation, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and more! The screen is optional in the 2022/2023 Transit and it's an option I think you should definitely consider.
In this video you're going to learn all about the new Sync4 screen. I cover off how to connect a phone, use factory navigation, move through the settings and everything in between.

Excellent video !!! Thanks for helping me dial in my transit.
Thank you! Biz vehicle or camper?
Just bought my E transit and your video helped me greatly. Thanks for the direct instructions.
You're welcome and wow you were able to get your hands on one?! Still haven't been able to see one yet. Hope you enjoy the new ride!
@@CarsWithSteve Thanks I waited over 6 months for my order and got it at msrp. Have you done a video on steering wheel controls. That one should be good. Ford doesn't show you how to operate anything.
6 months is not bad at all. I know a few people who have been waiting for almost a year now. Here are some more you can check out.. not on the eTransit but virtually the same.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This was soooo helpful.
You’re welcome!
Thanks
anytime!
This was an excellent and very thorough video. I appreciate you taking the time to show us this new system. I've been wanting to see what sync 4 was like up close.
Thanks Hudson, glad you found the details helpful!
@@CarsWithSteve Great review I was waiting to see the 360 degree split view camera and the front rear and side sensing technology you left me hanging .
I haven't driving cars for 20 years. Watching this lets me know I no longer know how to drive. Jesus tech doesn't make life easier only more complicated.
Ah you don't need to worry about much of the tech. Could still just start up and go, then use the radio if you want to keep it simple
Thanks for the video. I have a 2023 Transit with sync 4, is there a way to keep the rear camera on all the time? If not would it be possible to replace camera with one connected to separate monitor and use power from original camera to new camera.
You're welcome! I wish there was a way to enable a feature like that.. unfortunately it's only available at low speeds. No option for a customer placed camera in the Transit either.. I'd recommend reaching out to Ford directly and request the feature for a user installed camera. It's available in the F150 so it should be an easy add for them
Fabulous
Thanks!
good morning im saw your videos and im think maybe you can help me,ive a ford transit custom 2019 with 4'' screen and ill replace it with the original full radio sync 3 8'' screen. im boughted already apim, acm and display but i need the wires to connect it plus my van looking do not have the apim. can you please help me? do you sell parts? do you have any video? im desperated, thank you for any help
If your screen has the button with a little screen icon with the line through it yours won't be able to support Sync3.. if it has the 6 dots it would. Check this video out: ruclips.net/video/pzi839ivBWc/видео.html
Hey nice video! I have this van, and I like a nice bright screen. My problem is that it puts limits on how bright I can make it during certain ambient light conditions. Any idea on how to remove the brightness limitations?
Thanks Turner! Under Settings --> Display if your screen brightness is already turned up as high as it'll go, try taking the display out of Auto mode - put it in Day/Night permanently instead so that the van doesn't try to auto adjust
@@CarsWithSteveI think I’ve tried that but I can try again. The problem is that I had my windshield tinted with a clear but high UV rejection film, and I think the ambient light sensor thinks it’s darker than it actually is and auto-dims the screen for low light conditions, and I can’t manually turn the brightness back up. I’ll try keeping it set to day tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
Ah window tint strikes again.. Good luck!
I may have missed it, but how do you turn off the screen? I drive the Ford Transit as an ambulance and when we post, it would be nice to have the screen turn off. Thank you!
Hey Michael! 2 possible locations to turn the screen off.. First one is covered off around the 20:00 mark of the video under Settings -- > Display -- > Calm Screen - doesn't turn it off completely but will just show the date/time. If your Transit doesn't have the 360 camera there's also a button to the right of the volume rocker just under the screen that would turn it off too
👊keep up the great work!
Does this favtory head unit radio have RCA plugs on the back ? I want to be able to connect a aftermarket subwoofer in the rear.
Did you try changing the playback speed to something that's easier for you to follow? Try 0.75x by pressing the gear icon on the video
I don't think he understood the question lol
How are you able use defrost , heat, fan and all the other hvac function too if and when the screen just stops working someday ? Those can be life saving in the cold regions.
Why do you assume it’ll just stop working? But if it does.. the vehicle supports voice commands. So you can adjust the climate, and most other functions using your voice
How do you put google maps into full screen mode. Because it stays in split screen. I think it’s in the car settings
If yours has support for full screen when connected:
Apple CarPlay - the full screen button will be on the top left, just under the home screen icon. It's right above your phone time and battery percentage, and has 2 diagonal arrows.
Android Auto - the full screen button is on the top right, just to the left of the outside temperature.
You need to go full screen Android auto or Apple CarPlay to get full screen Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze. If your screen doesn't have those full screen buttons you wouldn't be able to go full screen
How do I reset the screen if it freezes?
Assuming you have this same screen.. On the steering wheel press and hold the volume down and right seek buttons for 10 seconds. If you have the last gen Sync 3 screen, press and hold the power button (in the volume nob) and the right seek buttons for 10 seconds
Ps: very nice video. Thanks for sharing. Ford info on this seems to be missing.
Thanks! That's why I started this channel!
Have one question. I am driving e transit 2022. And i see there is a front camera, but is not working,so is there any option i can turn it on?
When you're not in reverse, press the camera button and that'll pull up your camera. There are a different views: Front, Rear, Front Normal, Normal + 360 and Rear Split.
It only works at slower speeds when driving normally though
Where is camera button?
@@lleach7 its down (under screen) next to windows heather. But its only when you are parking, you can not turn it on during the driving.
@@Sever.1989. Haha, beat me to it! Low speeds or reversing only for the camera to come on the screen
I don’t know why my brightness is maxed at half way?? I need help. All mode max at half brightness.
Assuming you have this 12" screen... Try a factory reset by pressing and holding the right seek button and volume down button on the steering wheel for 5-10 seconds. Can also try pressing the "+" button on the controls by your left knee
My screen is not allowing me to turn the heat on. Is there a way I can fix it?
If you press the "Off" button in the middle of the minus and plus it should pull up a slider that you can move up and down. Other option would be to press the voice command prompt on the right side of the steering wheel and say what you want the temp set to
Hey is it possible to have Android auto on the full screen instead of a split screen?😊
Some Sync4 screens have the fullscreen Android Auto and Apple CarPlay update. If yours has it.. start up Android Auto on the Sync4 screen. Check on the top right hand side of the screen and you should see an icon with 2 arrows facing away and pointing to corners. Press that!
If the arrows aren't there, yours doesn't support fullscreen yet..
How du you pare as you can use the Google Maps it just says can't found is just got the car to day love Denmark
Make sure that your phone is up to date.. Press "Phone" on the media screen and then pull up bluetooth on your phone. If it's saying that there are no connections, turn off bluetooth on your phone and turn it back on again. I find that Android devices sometimes take a bit longer to recognize the connection than iPhones
What was it you used instead of phones . Was it a dongle
I was connected to my phones when I was showing off the features in this video..
How do I reset the screen? It’s stuck all back and won’t do anything but show the back up camera when in reverse I’m getting so aggravated dealing with this
Absolutely love that the screen can complete go black with no simple fix and I have literally no other way to control the AC , I highly prefer ac knob controllers after dealing with this bull shit !
Depending on the screen setup it'll either be:
1. Press and hold the seek right and volume down buttons on the steering wheel controls for 5-10 seconds to reboot
or
2. Press and hold the power button and seek right buttons under the screen for 5-10 seconds to reboot
Is there any way to convert a standard system to this?
There's quite a bit that goes into a swap.. you need to swap APIM, change the wiring harness, have it programmed and find the actual screen
How the 3 steps of Auto works? Have e.transit for 1 month now and I don't quite understand.
The steps for Android Auto?
@@CarsWithSteve ac auto button has 3 Levels. Usually it is just auto on or off.
OHH.. yeah it's an odd setting. The different levels on the auto button are for controlling the blower motor speed. So the vehicle would still control the temp in the cabin but it's a matter of a low, medium or high blower motor speed
thx. That was my guess, but despite different levels ON I never felt difference in fan’s blowing. but it is scandinavia and still just around 0 Celsius. Might be reason why.
Kind of neat that my videos are watched on the other side of the world! I would think auto is auto but lol... Ford likes to complicate things sometimes
I just purchased a 2023 Transit and there's no Sirius button that shows up. Did you do something special to have that appear on the screen?
SiriusXM is surprisingly an add on feature. If yours doesn't have it.. you might be able to add it in aftermarket but your best bet is to download the SiriusXM app for Apple/Android and then connect over bluetooth or CarPlay/Android Auto to stream that way
@@CarsWithSteve Thanks so much! I'll give that a try.
anytime!
Where can i find this system i have a 2023 ford van
Might be able to find one from a scrapped van but depending on what version screen you have now yours may not have the necessary wiring..
I’m gonna buy a Ford transit 2022. It has a smaller screen in it. Is it possible for me to get the 12 inch screen in it? I’m from the Netherlands. It’s gonna be a van! Not a jeep 😅
Best wishes and a happy new year! Blessed and loved 2024!
Exciting and Happy New Year to you as well! Whether or not you can upgrade will depend on the existing screen.. You might have to do a module swap for it to work and try to hunt down a Sync4 screen too
@@CarsWithSteve thanks for your reply! Tomorrow I’m gonna test drive the van and check it out. Take some photos and see what’s inside etc etc.
Best wishes!! 🥳
Hope the drive goes well, cheers!
Can you take screenshots of the Sync 4 screen?
Unfortunately not.. that would be a useful feature though
@@CarsWithSteve Yeah, that would be very useful for content creators. Thanks for clarifying.
anytime! I just have a camera on a tripod set up when shooting these videos if that helps
where can I buy the screen?
I haven't seen an aftermarket kit available for upgrading yet. What year is the Transit that you have now and what screen setup does yours have? It wouldn't just be plug and play either.. so if you got one from a wrecking yard and tried to swap them, there would be features you wouldn't be able to use
What does AUTO button do?
It lets the vehicle determine what the cabin temp and fan speed should be
Thanks! Odd name. So it overrides the temp and fan speed settings?
@@lleach7 Yeah, so if you have temp settings set at something and then press auto, it'll tweak the temp and fan speed automatically
How I can replace from second sync to 4 sync
It'll be tricky to make that upgrade if you're in an older Transit. Sync4 screens are in short supply so you'd have to find a 2022+ model that's in a scrap yard to get it
Depending on your model year, an upgrade from the smaller Sync screen to the previous gen Sync3 screen is more realistic
my vav 2023 ford e transet 350 EV HX
eTransit upgrade will be really tricky aftermarket. You can check with your dealer to see if they can order one but chances are that you're going to have to wait until one hits a scrap yard to be able to make the change
@@CarsWithSteve thank you
How the hell do we do sync reset without physical button?
On the steering wheel press and hold the Volume Down and Seek Right buttons for 5-10 seconds!
The only thing ford needs to sort it to be able to watch utube videos on the screen when the ignition is off.
It's available in the next generation screen that's based on Android OS. Hoping that CarPlay or Android Auto eventually have an update to allow for video playback though
Just when I thought the Sprinter had the nicest media display .......... Transit wins.
Ford did a great job with the quality of this new screen!
Congratulations Ford, you have finally caught up with other car manufacturers. I am not impressed with this new screen at all.
Why?
The other thing is ford should install as standard the rear camera! The parking sensors only cover the lower bumper and Ford could be liable if people get killed and they did not install the available technology! They don't even fit a reverse buzzer as standard!
The rear camera is standard on North American cars as of 2008. On the Transit it's down low under where the plate would sit but on the medium/high roof it's top mounted.
You’re talking so fast, I can’t learn a thing.
People watch at 2x speed with no issue. Change the playback speed to something that’s easier to follow
