@@TheMakerHimselfs Personally, I'm wondering that myself. Moebius has had influence (and possibly a hand) in anime, like Dragon's Heaven and Little Nemo.
I saw it forty years ago in a cinema in Hungary. A beautiful and sad work that was produced in Hungary at Pannónia Stúdió IV - of course a completely hand-drawn film. It was released as a comic and later on DVD.
I saw this as a kid in the UK in the 80s - I guess it was a dub. It was like a fever dream and I spent decades trying to figure out what it was with a vague recollection of the very weird plot and setting. Finally rediscovered it a few years back. Recently watching Scavengers Reign took me right back to it, must have been an influence.
Just to let you know this happend to many kids. All over the world. Remembering it like a fever dream, looking for it and then finding posts on the web from others to finally find the name. As if this movie had a sidequest build in.
In either December of 73 or possibly early 74, a 9 year old kid went into a theater to watch Fantastic Planet. The kid who went in was not the same creature who came out, and the incredible imagination packed into that film reverberates for me to this day. Imagine, then, my surprise to discover The Time Masters, now, in 2024 - a film I had never even heard of until five minutes ago... and I work in animation [go figure!]. While it looks stylistically and tonally very different from Fantastic Planet, I can't wait to snag a copy of this on Blu-Ray.
I saw this when i was a kid in 80's in Hungary. I liked a lot a story and animation but this movie has alot of meanings what i understood as an adult. 2nd shock! Recommended af.
Me neither. I've seen Fantastic Planet and I've seen Gandahar (or "Light Years," as it was known in the US) but I've never seen this. I frankly wish they'd release it theatrically, 'cuz I'd see it. (It definitely looks more original & unique than any of the crap they make nowadays...)
Moebius was a big Innovator in Comic Art and this seems to be a fascinating Film. His Influence on SciFi Movies and modern Pop Art is undisputable (Alien, Jodorowskyˋs Dune) The fifth Element, Tron + Abyss).
Terrific! I love the animation of that era, which has also inspired the modern Moebius renaissance with projects like Scavenger's Reign and Mars Express.
I don't feel like I'm in my rights to copy this, since all sorts of things seem to suffer from lacking right to be copied, like Gandahar Restoration Project. License to copy it once for personal use? Wow, what? wow. How did I miss this? I was alive. I saw Fantastic Planet, I saw Heavy Metal. In fact, I collected Heavy Metal magazines for years back then. Seems like some kind of ad would have run or something, even MTV had some kind of animation show where AeonFlux ran or even a preview at a Jodorowsky film. Just missed it. @user-so9lu9eq8c What a small world... Angel's Egg is my favorite OVA and Time Masters is my favorite René Laloux film. I hope you enjoy these when you get the chance.
GKIDS has revealed that it will present a brand new 4K restoration of Mamoru Oshii's Angel's Egg (1985) in theaters across the nation next year. The label has also confirmed that the restoration will be released on physical media.
I've always loved this movie, it got me so interested into animation that I started learning 3D animation and now that's literally my job. I even made a fan animation of the Time masters replicating the scene of the elevator and the throops. 0:48 Mœbius and Rene are literally a Godly duo.
That is fantastic! I love it when things come full circle, especially when you become talented enough to really take the next step in keeping that circle going. Thank you for sharing. It made me really happy to read your post and think about what an impact this movie has had on your life in such a powerful way. ❤🎉

I think with the success of Scavengers Reign its about time that Moebius had a comeback in popularity. That show was great but for people seeing it for the first time they might think that it was something brand new and completely original. Moebius did it all decades earlier.

Fascinating art style. Then again, it was the '80s and Moebius, so of course it's fascinating.
