Black wedding dresses are on trend. Also, Mom is clearly not over the fact her daughter is a lesbian, BUT she seems like the type that will come to grips with it.
I mean I wouldn't be okay with it either I would be really disappointed and hurt but she would still be my daughter and I would still love her and want her to be happy. I can make myself get over things even if sucks.
Even though the mom didn't want the color of dress for her daughter. I appreciate the fact that she wasn't controlling, rude, or obnoxious about it. I have seen people be really mean towards the bride on the show before.
When my daughter grows up and gets married I am going to embrace everything SHE wants. Whatever her personality wants and suits... If she wants black we are going all out baby girl!!!!!!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Mom has gone through her whole life with certain expectations about her daughter and she has had all of them dashed. Surprise! It happens. I don't think she's homophobic, but I think she is processing that this is her daughter's life, not hers. Being that her daughter and fiance' are paying for the dress, Mom really doesn't have a say. I am glad she came around though and got on board. It made her daughter happy. And that's what it's all about. I'm happy the Beautiful Bride got what she wanted and she will look stunning in her black gorgeous dress. Best Wishes to the Bride.
I’m 16 and I asked my mom the other day if I could have a black wedding dress when I get married someday and my dad told me no and my mom straight up yelled in my dads face saying it’s my day and I can wear whatever color dress I wanted
Not quite the same, but when I was somewhere around 15 I got my hair cut SUPER short, like borderline buzzcut, because I wouldn't listen to my hairstylist and insisted she used a shorter guard length that she tried to talk me out of. I realized how bad it was and managed to preserve my bangs, but I was absolutely miserable and only had myself to blame. My father (who already didn't like me having short hair) asked me when I got home, "Are you lost, little boy?" My mother had already chewed him out for saying something rude when I first got my hair in a pixie cut, and this time both my mom and HIS mom chewed him out. After that point he learned to just not make any comments on my hair if he wanted to keep the peace. I'm still upset about it over a decade later tbh, but I was satisfied knowing my grandma had my back too.
Black dresses are such a classic look. My daughter wore a gorgeous black wedding dress for her wedding. I wish more people would wear colors on their big day. The only reason white dresses came into popularity at all was thanks to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Victoria walked down the aisle in a white lace gown, which stunned and captivated her subjects. Prior to the royal wedding, people wore whatever color they wanted. Most people could not afford to have a dress that you only wore once, so they were designed to be worn over and over again. Today, people drop thousands to maintain the "tradition" and wear it only once. The white wedding dress is supposed to signify innocence and purity, so logic says a black dress is dirty or impure. The bottom line is wear whatever color you want. It's YOUR wedding!
It's less about black being dirty/impure and more about it being tied to funerals, death & mourning. But I got married in October and I was gonna be damned if I didn't have SOME spooky colors so my white dress had a black trim that went all the way down the train, I carried a bouquet wrapped in black satin ribbon and the cake had black decorative swirls. Black can also be very classy and refined if done right.
You're absolutely spot on re: the history of the white wedding dress and colored wedding dresses. If you ever go to a "period" wedding ceremony, the bride NEVER wears white. If it's the 1700s, she'll wear something that's clearly bridal by today's standards in a pastel color. If she's in the Elizabethan era, she'll most likely wear green.
it’s the bride’s desicion not her mom not everyone else, but the bride, it’s her wedding, let her express herself specially on a very special day and event like a wedding
As a mom to three daughters your vision should be whatever makes her happy and fulfilled! It’s her life man not ours we had our go come on folks let your kids live!
Not saying she shouldn't have had the black if that was what she wanted, but I did like the champagne colour of the one she tried on for the fit. I think that's the sort of colour I would have liked if I'd had a proper wedding dress. It's the sort of tone that would go better with my skin colour than white. Wonder if my husband fancies a vow renewal LOL.
"White wedding dresses weren't the standard in the West until the 1800s, when Queen Victoria sparked the enduring trend." (The white wedding dress - its history and meaning - CNN )
Whoever's reading this, i pray that whatever you're going through gets better and whatever you're struggling with or worrying about is going to be fine and that everyone has a fantastic day! Amen
There is a video of the wedding on this channel - I was there - and Melody looked stunning! It was a very happy occasion to celebrate the two of them: Dawn and Melody!
I remember last time this was uploaded people were absolutely horrible to the mom calling her homophobic and what not. When in fact, she's just the sweetest and so accepting. They are from another generation, let them be, jeez.
People are so ridiculous, the mom never said one negative thing about the daughters same sex relationship . A white dress has been tradition for hundreds of years, so it is not unusual for people to need adjustment time.
She's being passive-aggressive, pushy and whiny. Definitely not sweet and most definitely not accepting. She clearly doesn't feel comfortable with her daughter's relationship and she's just overcompensating by being all bubbly. Just because she never said anything blatantly negative, doesn't mean her behavior isn't showing her true feelings. It's kinda worrying that people mistake her atrocious behavior for sweetness just because she puts on a smile and talks like a child.
That second dress was nice, but honestly didn't give bridal vibes to me. Black bridal is definitely a thing and can look really stunning but that second wasn't it
Historically women were married in dresses of colour. There are cultures that wear white for death and funerals. White wedding dresses are a relatively new colour
I was not a traditional bride in any sense. I went to a tailor, drew what I wanted, showed some pictures, picked up the material and voila. When someone wants a black wedding dress there is no point in going to a bridal boutique. I am Euroipan, maybe here things are different, but my mom never had a say in how should i look like. We are very close, we sit down i explained and that's was all
As a Conservative Christian I can understand where the mom is coming from like if I do have any girl I would ideally like for them to get married to a strong Christian man and they would wear a beautiful white dress. However I understand that my future children are their me and they end deciding to marry someone of the same gender in a non-traditional ceremony, I may not agree with it but I will respect their choice and love them no matter what.
If you can’t accept the brides pick then don’t be at her wedding, it is her day, not yours, and if she wants to wear black then let her wear it. You only have one wedding make it count
I just don't get it. It's one thing to express an opinion. But when you have been told in very clear terms what the bride wants and doesn't want, that's when you let your opinion go. She should not have to tell her mother what she wants over and over and over and over again. The mother acts like the kind of woman who gets her way just by smiling and hanging on forever.
I just cannot get behind black for a wedding gown. I wouldn't have told my daughters no if they had wanted a black gown but I wouldn't have liked it. They all wore ivory dresses anyway.
So funny because in old days before 1840, before queen victoria the wedding dresses were all black or dark. It wasn't until a member of royalty decided on white then all wedding dresses were white.

I mean I get it, I would want my daughter to marry a guy I would not be happy if she were a lesbian. And I would want her to have a white dress but if she was really in love with a different color dress then so be it. I would prefer her to be straight but I would love her anyway.
Black wedding dresses are on trend. Also, Mom is clearly not over the fact her daughter is a lesbian, BUT she seems like the type that will come to grips with it.

It's not always about the money, some kids want or need parental approval.
@@gwens5093 That's may be true. However, if you're getting married, you should be an adult and not need anyone's "approval".

$6000 budget and THOSE dresses are what they pull out??? They were ALL horrible.
They were limited to what could be ordered in black, Bridal by Lori is not a huge shop like Kleinfeld.

they had some serious limitations! most wedding dresses can't be ordered in black!
I looked up this one’s wedding. This girl rocked that effing frock, baby.
Absolutely crushed it.
2015! They've been married about 7 years, now. And yes, the black dress she wore definitely seemed to suit her!
