OLD Leather Smith here, nice work, yes stingray is tough but ehen the project is done it is especially beautiful. I know this because I have made a few things with that leather myself.

I have worked with a lot of Stingray skin, and I find it easier to cut it with scissors

Cutting stingray use a cheap utility knife, don't use your good knife. The pearls are basically bone. Same with using pricking irons, use your cheap ones, also prick from the flesh side, much easier. Good job Will!

Stingray leather was used for sword handles? Old school skateboard tape😊

Would be interesting to flex the thread area to see how the thread does over time, may have to use a different type of thread.

Beautiful work. Something with Kangaroo, perhaps. Because it quite thin and soft, I’m interested to see what you would make with it. Thanks

Hey! I actually have a small panel of Kangaroo leather I could definitely make something with

I have experience working with stingray. If you take a drimmle tool and sand down the edges, your pricking iron will have no trouble going through the stingray. And sense it's an inlay. No one will see it.

Thanks for that, definitely useful for next time

Had no idea about stingray leather being that hard and difficult to work with. It makes more sense now why the Japanese used it in their handle construction of their various edged weapons/tools.

Stingray leather is a nightmare at first, but you learn how to tame the beast haha. Greetings from down south, great job man.

Great work! What knife are you using to cut the leather in this video?

It’s a bespoke knife from a blade smith on Instagram called @ibexironworks. I’m in love with it
