  • There have been a TON of different inflatable paint booths popping up on the internet recently. We decided to buy one and test it ourselves to see if it was actually worth spending upwards of $2000.

    Automotive Paint Frequently Asked Question
    How long after painting a car can you drive it?
    A few weeks after painting your car. No one likes seeing an orange peel texture, cracking or peeling, but exposing your vehicle to the environment right after a fresh paint job can do just that.
    Some auto enthusiasts recommend keeping your freshly painted car in the garage for at least a month, but at the same time, you need to be realistic. You need to get places, so you'll have to take your car out on occasion.
    How do I properly spray paint my car?
    DIY auto painting projects are a multistep process. You'll start by stripping or sanding the old paint off. Then, you'll apply primer, the base coat and the clear coat. You also need to think about rust patches - you can't just paint over them - and cleaning off debris and moisture to avoid texture and adhesion issues. In between, because you'll be handling solvents and using a paint gun, you need to adequately protect yourself against the chemicals in the air.
    To start, carve out a block of time to paint your car. Then, be sure to have the following:
    Protective gear, including safety glasses and a fresh air respirator system or a mask with a multi-stage filter. We also recommend a paint suit to protect your clothing.
    Sanding supplies, including 1200- and 2000-grit wet-and-dry sandpaper and an electric sander - unless you plan to do the job by hand.
    Masking tape
    Air compressor or paint gun
    Paint thinner
    Mixing equipment
    Auto paint
    As a rule, if you're planning to repaint a small- to medium-sized vehicle, have one gallon of base coat available and one gallon of primer plus two to three gallons of clear coat. For a larger vehicle, have 1.5 gallons of base coat ready and three to four gallons of clear coat. Before starting, be sure to match the paint to your car's color by looking for the color code or VIN number.
    Learn more about how to get started painting your car.
    What is a good paint gun for beginners?
    Paint guns come in a few styles, but the most popular is a high volume low pressure (HVLP) gun, which is designed to use less pressure while delivering more paint. These allow you to complete the job in less time.
    Another popular option is a turbine paint system, which is a self-contained option that utilizes a turbine motor to compress the air.
    Along with these attributes, think about the needle nozzle. Be sure to have at least a 1.2-1.4 for the base coat/clear coat and 1.7-2.0 for the primer.

    After each usage of the booth I always use my 1700 psi karcher pressure washer after removing the filters! Then I use my worx 40v nitro blower to remove the excess water and dry! You can also make a skeleton frame with electric conduit to negate the possible issue with deflation! Just like the framework on a auto canopy!That's what I did! I was a reconditioning shop owner for 40 yrs! Retired now! If it's permanent build one out of drywall and metal studing I did was awesome as good as an expensive real one! Forgot you can then hang led lighting from the conduit! If you want more lighting you can remove sections of the top and replace with clear plastic sheathing using a high quality adhesive similar to replacing the rear window on an mg or triumph only no stitching!

    When I need an inflatable paint booth. I just call the party rental place. Rent a Barney bouncy house and let the painting begin as soon as the guy drops it off. The best part is the way I can bounce around the car while I am spraying the paint job out. 🤔🤣

    I wouldn't expect anything less than some trash in the paint in one of these, hell, you can still get trash in a $100,000.00 paint booth. But you can lessen the trash by making sure the booth and the car are as clean as you can possibly get them. These are definitely a cool concept and probably great for the occasional side job.

      Exactly - if you paint a couple cars a year or less this will give you the space to get the job done.

    was thinking of getting one but $2k is too much I just need a clean area either some drop plastic suspended or a large paint tent or diy myself something out of cardboard, just something to have a semi clean area to separate the sanding work area from the finish area outside has a problem with wind and bugs and stuff blowing around

    Does it let paint smell outside the booth? Is it noticeable when used indoors?

    • @eastwoodco
      @eastwoodco  Месяц назад +1

      It does contain the smell within the booth, it greatly reduced the aroma in our studio/shop. Yes you can still smell the paint by the exhaust port outside.

    My thoughts exactly about the paint mixing area being wasted space, and most manufacturers put them on even very small booths making it to where you have to buy a gigantic booth to be able to fit a car in the booth.
    Also with an inflatable booth you need to build a wooden frame inside so in case you have a deflation event it doesnt collapse into your cars new paint.
    I didnt have a garage to protect my car and thats a big reason why I am having to repaint my car, so I built a garage this past summer to protect my car when im finished painting it.
    What I ended up going with was a canvas frame style booth by a company called OTOBO, I bought the big version and the small version. I bought the small version to do take off parts in because the large one is VERY hard for one person to put up and take down and none of these temporary paint booths are meant to stay up for very long, the sun, the weather, wind etc will destroy them all.
    I would have liked to have went with the inflatable type but the cost for a size that would fit my car and allow me room to get around the car and paint it was too great.
    In the future I plan on installing a slab in my garage I built and turning that into my paint booth with modifications.

    There are inflatable booths that stay inflated once they're inflated. So, the fan can go out with no worries.

    Why does the blower need to be on. Can't you inflate and plug it like a pool toy???

    • @eastwoodco
      @eastwoodco  6 месяцев назад

      No, it's more like a bounce house then a pool toy. So the fan has to stay running.

    The electric motor failure when doing a project its NOT worth the risk there guy.... If your a person who has to buy an inflatable booth and can't afford or have access to a booth doesnt have money falling out of their asshole. Paint and materials are expensive and if your a guy like me who has a limited budget and has a regular job then any risk is not worth it. So Im gonna say a big NO to the inflatable paint booth.

    • @Clayton_Bigsy
      @Clayton_Bigsy 7 месяцев назад

      And thats why u should use pvc or conduit to build a skeletal support inside of the booth. Very cheap and easy to build. Also u can add led lighting to it. So for the cost its definitely a good buy if ur someone who actually pays to rent a booth often imo.
