Billie Joe Armstrong is a criminally underrated lyricist. To me, he should be mentioned as one of the greatest writers in rock history. A ton of great lines include cognitive dissonance and contradicting ideas. The passage, “The freedom to obey,” is a very powerful and poignant idea. What a world class talent he is.

It's an established fact that Green Day are a better, more ambitious group than Blink 182. This song is a perfect example: the themes, and emotions explored here are timeless. They are as valid now as they were in 2009 and they will be just as valid 10, 20, 50 years from now. The song writing is just so damn incredible, this band's legacy will live forever.

That’s a joke right there it sucks how they handle good songs nowadays it sucks all good music is mostly dead
We're LITERALLY having a 21st Century Breakdown. No jokes
and waiting for judgement day, just like he said
yes
This is without a doubt one of the best songs I have ever heard in my life.
I actually wish one day the two parties can hold hands and solve problems together.
Same
and then make out platonically
and then make out passionately
@@JimmyFallonUwU that'd be so hot
People who say green day suck just suck. This album was brilliant and the lyrics are very telling. An absolute banger. So much talent here.
This is in my opinion, the most underrated Green Day song. I really liked the 'first half' of the song, and the last 30 seconds the most.
I listen to Green Day every day and it's great!
The part at 3:00 up to the end is one of the best moments in the history of music
Probably my most favorite and beautiful music video from green day
This album is so underrated
My favorite to be honest
Yep
Period 😢
the goosebumps when color arives on the video ending...BRRRRRR
love green day
i’m just saying, they’re right. politics would be solved if the presidential candidates just kissed
Frrr😭😭😭🤣
Green day has the balls of steel for talking the truth against government or society! No other bands in this generation can make a song about social topic!
Umm hello? MUSE anyone? 😂
this is one of my favorite songs of all time. the lyrics are incredible, the drumming is amazing, and the guitars sound perfect, and the last minute or so of this song never fails to give me goosebumps. i love you green day!
This was Billie’s *REAL* emo phase, despite being almost 40.
His hair isn't emo at all
Нейтральный Маппер
It is tho
@@Woolf75 i mean, yeah, he has fringe, and black straight hair, but it's all, nothing else from emo hairstyle wasn't taken and classic emo looks different
@@НейтральныйМаппер-з2м he also had eyeliner on
@@НейтральныйМаппер-з2м clothes are also emo
It's an established fact that Green Day are a better, more ambitious group than Blink 182. This song is a perfect example: the themes, and emotions explored here are timeless. They are as valid now as they were in 2009 and they will be just as valid 10, 20, 50 years from now. The song writing is just so damn incredible, this band's legacy will live forever.
"Established fact" = "opinion"
@@diegobrando2750 Blink 182 is basically boy bands with guitars lmao
It’s impressive that this 11 year old song talk about the problems of the world that use to have back then but it’s applicable to today’s problems if you analyze it, nothing has change at all...
Can't believe is been 15 years one of my favorite albums!! 🖤
It doesn't reall matter, but i miss this hair so much!I just want to live in it, it looks so frigging soft!
its 2016 and this is still my jam
Green Day always gives me a motivation when I was busy at school Thank you!!!! Green day.
Childhood nostalgia and what song got me into Green Day when I didn't even know where this song came from ❤
This wasn't an album. It was a warning. It was a prophecy. And we didn't heed.
Great song!!!
This video is so well made. I love the song and the video.
This song is actually quite great, one of my favorites by Green Day, just like the album it belongs to is great :3
It's 2019 and I'm 14 since I'm 6 I'm listening to you Guys 😢 you the best you make my childhood Rock! Love you Guys 😢💖
I felt so hardcore, listening to this song in my room back when I was 11 years old. All of my friends listened to Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber but I was a big fan of Green Day
Not just a song but one of the greatest art pieces of the 21st century
I remember the concert in Chile that night of October 24, 2010!!
The best year of my life, because I could hear them play live 💘
(I still have the souvenir ticket)
