I remember the final boss from my playthrough. The Queen spawned right in front of me and walked straight out of the hanger-doors, triggering the final cutscene and ending the game. I didn't even move!
There's a bug you can pull that pretty much does that, I used it to fully level up on the 360 version. You end up only having to pull one of the levers or something. It crashes the Queen to glitch out, and then she just flies out of the hanger.

The issue is games like Battlefield and Black Ops using it to fool people with a false sense of authenticity. I have to give credit to Rockstar games for going against the grain on the feature in GTAV and Red Dead Redemption 2.
I did it for Call of Duty 2, gave all guns fixed spread (unaffected by stance, aiming, movement etc) and realistic RoF. I loved how dynamic it became, after just eliminating aiming mechanic.
My favorite part of Bella's death scene is where everyone was too sad to put her out of her misery and let her live, fully conscious while a parasite was making its way out of her chest cavity, eating through her lungs, ribs and heart, through a shitload of nerve endings causing what must have been absurdly excruciating pain. Then they shot said parasite while she was likely still on the brink of death, since her brain was not damaged so dying would take a while, ensuring that its acid blood would pour on her gaping wound so that she could suffer a bit longer before her actual death, without even lungs intact enough to scream, gurgle, death rattle or curse the fuckers. Brings a tear to my eye every time... from all the laughter, I mean. I cannot imagine that that scene was meant to be taken seriously under any circumstance. But boy was it directed as if we were meant to.
It makes about as much sense as the guy who realizes he's about to die via chestburster while he and the other marines are crossing over the ship to ship bridge. Rather than simply usher his fellow marines ahead and perhaps asking one to kill him before he suffers and put a round in his chest to stop the xeno about to be birthed, he has the galaxy brained idea to pop a grenade... within spitting distance of his fellow un-egged marines... in the middle of a fragile umbilical bridge... between two spaceships... in space. But it's directed as if it's meant to be a noble sacrifice and not the absolute stupidest thing a soldier could do that would have likely just killed all of his squad mates too.
Stupid thing is, I swear blind there was something, possibly even an Aliens movie or game, that had someone kill someone they cared for to stop them birthing a monster, only for that monster to burst out of them and for them to turn and kill it like a badass. I can't remember what the hell it was but it's hardly a difficult script to write.
I remember the super tense first encounter with a xenomorph in this game being cat and mouse using the motion tracker, quickly darting around corners, cautiously stepping around obstacles, wondering when the big reveal was finally gonna be only to round a corner an see an alien on all fours walking directly into a wall Knew it was gonna be a banger after that

The AI in this game was broken because they misspelled the word "tether", they spelled it "teather" and it completely broke the way the Aliens AI was supposed to function and why the Aliens seemed to only run in a B-Line straight for the player. I tried the game today just to see if it was as bad as i remember. The alien AI is broken garbage. But i quite like the level and environment design. Its the bad graphics that let it down. You spend too much time shooting soldiers instead of Aliens, and supporting characters get in your way a lot. The weapons sound awesome and the weapon firing animations are great too. The pulse rifle and the shotgun sounds are really great. Id love to see a remaster of this game. With the AI sorted out and the graphics brought up to date. It was the poor graphics that really let the game down and the totally broken AI.
@@245-TRIOXIN Dude, the guy above just told you how to fix it by correcting a single typo. Aliens are now jumping around, move much faster and are quite inteligent. I was waiting to shoot one alien that (acording to motion tracker) should appear in front of me, but the alien knew im waiting for him there so he crawled around to the shaft that was right next to me, killing me instantly. Bug Hunt coop mode is worth alone. And this mode already has fixed AI since it was released later by different team.

It really is a lie though,it's not what was advertised and the people in the start of video are blatant fucking liars, if you want a fast, immersive, frightening, and a tad bit scary game, doom 64/Deadspace/Doom 3 and Deadspace 2 are pretty great at most of those. But this game? It's more or less Call Of Duty with aliens and weyland yutani mercs. And the avp game series did a way better job than this pile of garbage did.

21:20 I read an interview where Micheal Biehn talked about how bad the production this game was, and contrasted it with Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, which he said he had a blast doing because the passion the production team had for it really came through in every interaction he had with everyone.
I don't know why, but I'm more invested in CV-11 and his living situation and struggles in the Department of Special Corrections than I am most AAA games and Hollywood Movies these days.
In 2002 the original A:CM was buzzing around in the Alien communities collective heads. It sounded great. A tactical, squad-based shooter in the Aliens universe where you had to manage a squad of marines. You would have to deal with the aliens capturing your marines, and perform rescue operations, you'd have to manage all of your team's ammo, and it sounded like it would be really intense and fun. So years later, when Gearbox announced they were going to be making it, at last. I was so excited. This is the company that made Opposing Force! Surely they would understand the Alien film and how to make a good game out o fit! There are so many janky things about this game... but the one thing that burns me more than anything is the fact that the Aliens aren't the feature opponent of the game. The Weyland Yutani soldiers are the featured opponent. You spend more time shooting humans in an Aliens game, than you do the aliens. The Weyland Yutani troopers should have been a late-game addition, that show up to thicken the plot...Or something you contend with earlier in the game, and then they get out of the way so you can enjoy the main attraction. At least we got Alien Isolation. Say what you will about it, but at least it got the atmosphere, tension, design, and concepts of the original films right.
Oh, on the subject of the AI and their ability to hit the aliens... They are actually hitting the aliens, but they do about 1/20 of the damage that you do. Wouldn't want to take the kills from the player after all, wouldja? It's not like they couldn't just make the aliens more of a *real* threat and program proper AI for them, like they talked about in the previews. Oh, no. We just have to make the AI allies weak-sauce so that the player feels like a "bad ass." (Any time one of the developers said that in one of their ridiculous featurettes I wanted to smack them. Way to not understand the Colonial Marines in relation to the film they are featured in, you jack asses...)
We also got the far superior Alien Infestation on NDS - buy it, emulate it, it's fantastic. But we did not receive the amazing looking Alien Crucible, because it was cancelled - An RPG style game where you make your character, choose backgrounds, and a lot more of very interesting stuff that'd given that gave a ton of replayability.
Did you know a 7/10 rating has a special meaning? If your game is 'generally competent' you're almost guaranteed to get that rating from major publications. No crashes and a higher production value than shovelware and you got your 7/10. Randy knows that. After all that hype he was expecting the game to be average at best. I wouldn't trust this guy.

That cancer thing also contradicts the Alien Resurrection game where you can irradiate the chestburster out of your body, and in AvP 2010 where they surgically remove the parasite from one of your partners and she turns out fine.

Dude - THERE IS MORE OF THIS! That "Theater" bullshit is one thing, but there are also typos for shaders, something that has writen "Ture" instead of "True" or that in one line there is a big letter "A" when it suppose to be little "a". The code in this game is a mess. But with that Overhaul mod, which trailers for version 6 look sick!, it is quite good game, especially the DLC missions.
Those alien chest bursters took some effort getting through cloth shirts and jumpsuits in the movies but in this game they rip through a flak jacket like it's thinner than air. Good job Randy, 7.5/10.
I love how they introduce one of the characters by having her wake immediately after an intimate encounter with a Facehugger. Like, anyone who's seen these movies, which is going to be 99% of the people playing this piece of shit, will automatically know what that is and what it does, so they already know not to get emotionally attached to her, because she's going to fucking die, soon.

Fun fact: The game Alien: infestation originally started life as a NDS port of colonial marines before becoming its own separate game. Infestation is a 2D metroidvania which has a large amount of nods to the extended alien universe, including parts of the universe which hadn't made it into the films and were from unused drafts. I find it surprising that what started as a NDS port of colonial marines not only turned out to be a better than its consoles counterpart, but is also one of the best alien games.
Well they can bite through bone so there’s that plus Irl a breastplate made for bullets isn't much help against blunt impacts. plus the fact that they arnt designed to handle any damage from the back of them. it looks like the Marines are using a steel shirt which is much less effective than segmented plates as its less flexible so it can't move away from impacts it also looks quite thin and maybe reinforced with kevlar or cushioning for comfort in short a creature with a bite force high enough to bite through bone could probably handle that thin layer of steel from its weaker points

When I saw the first AVP in the theater and the predator and surviving female protagonist where running together in slow motion the entire theater erupted in laughter.
They actually stole the idea from Planet of the Hunters, which is a two part book series about a sheriff, who earns the trust and honour of yautja during a ducked up hunt initiated unauthorised by a young yautja, trying to prove himself to score chicks home. Yea, this is really the story. Anyway, the books worked really well, since the sheriff had time and buildup until the moment when she is marked by the old predator with the sign of its clan. It was laughably stupid in the movie since the girly does crap until the last moment, when she suddenly becomes hero, without warning. Not to mention how immersion breaking her character was. She was badass for reasons... I swear, so few people can write good action-heroines, or just heroines in general, it hurts.
AVP I find kinda tragic cause with a team that gave slightly more of a shit it has the perfect setup to be hokey but fun and creative action schlock and instead it’s just a boring slog with some nice trailer shots that was made to cash in on how much Freddy v Jason popped off

I love that they were so lazy with Bella's death that they didn't even bother to make a model for her that wasn't wearing the body armor. So the chestburster emerges straight out of her chestplate in one fluid animation.
You might think if the enemies only target you and the companion AI can’t aim for shit they could have removed them from the start but no, they are important for the „canon“ story

A:CM's unplayableness was apparently because of a single, SINGLE, error in the coding. ONE -1- typo fucked up this entire game. Once a modder found that out, the aliens suddenly started acting the way they should. Can you believe that?
The tether error was a major part of what was wrong with the aliens, yes, but it's much more than that one error. The core AI and gameplay balancing are broken. Check out the channel "AI & Games" for a really great technical analysis of everything that is broken.
Civvie, your videos are so good you've reached the status of "Oh I'll just binge watch his channel again for the 15th time". Only the AVGN held that status up until now, so it's the biggest compliment a youtuber can get from me, your channel is such a hidden gem, it's great to see such quality content again.

The main plot hole that bugged me wasn't that Hadley hope was still standing after the large nuclear explosion (sounds like a stretch, but why not). But what actually exploded was the atmosphere processer, you know the thing what made the air breathable. Before the atmosphere processer was built during the first movie, all the characters needed space suits to move around on LV-426. In the game how did all the characters not die due to exposure. Did Wayland set a new processer up?
You've gotta appreciate how the chest bursters are also able to immediately punch a hole trough a thick steel chestplate, complete absurd oversight of the models just so they could have the same medbay scene of the movie.
The best part of the story of A:CM to me is when a modder found out a big chunk of why the AI is so shit is because of a spelling mistake in the code. Like, one of the most goddamn easiest things to find and fix and they couldn't even do/be bothered to do that. 7/10.

We here in the air force just call them seamen as a joke. I think it is natural to refer to anyone from the military as soldier but we do have our own distinct titles, it's not a matter of being good enough or not. A marine colonel calling another marine "soldier" would probably raise a couple eyebrows in a room full of marines lol

Though this kind of interservice rivalry has always existed. I specifically bring up the Army and Marine Corps largely cause their jobs are very similar, at least compared to the AirForce or Navy.

I just realised something. Watch that The cutscene at 6:20, specifically 6:22. The guy giving the speech has a prosthetic leg. That isn't an issue for me; we've got a sci-fi setting with androids, so yeah they can make prosthetic limbs. Why not have an apparently non-invasive way to interface with a human body, fine. That doesn't bother me. What bothers me is this limb is very visibly something all piston-y. Despite the fact this is a setting where you can make artificial limbs that are at least as strong as their organic equivalent, indistinguishable from anything but enhanced examination. Is it a military version, so uglier but more sturdy and easy(er) to service? More fundamentally... why is it visible? He's wearing trousers, why doesn't he just pull the leg down like people I've met irl with prosthetic legs do? Oh right, because he's a soldier and he's fighting with a missing limb, so he's a BADASS and we, the viewers, have to have it shown. Jesus christ. That alone sets the tone for the game before anything else, not the bugs or stupid plot or how the pulse rifle that canonically holds 95 rounds (I might be fuzzy on this but soldiers put 95 in because topping it to full invites jams iirc) now magically holds less than half that. This guy's leg, that's what sets the tone for this game with me.
Randy Pitchord did at least do one thing right. He helped find a site and get the ball rolling for the establishment of the National Videogame Museum in Frisco, TX. I was bowled over during my visit by the sights, sounds, and memories from video games’ vaunted history. It is a little telling though, that one display is a picture perfect full recreation of Randy’s office at Gearbox. I kept waiting for the animatronic Randy to pop out of a closet...Doh! Great museum, though. Every gamer should make a pilgrimage there, at least once in your life.
Alien trilogy on the saturn was such an amazing fps, literally does everything better than colonial marines. Even managed to make a more functional motion tracker with more variety and fun to use weapons, awesome boss fights and actually atmospheric and scary compared to this shite. Thank god for you civvie, saving us from having to play this ourselves.
The sound team in general at gearbox kicks ass. The weapon amd ambient sounds in the borderlands series generally kick ass with some real standouts. Music tends to be excellent, albeit somewhat inconsistent. Voice casting is usually really good for important characters. Just wish they would cut the bullshit. No one plays gearbox games for uncharted setpieces and dialogue.

I like how the subtext of Aliens is "Look how dangerous and incompetent these marines are" but somehow people walk away from the movie being like "Look how cool and badass these marines are." Like fandom has taken Gorman’s phrase about xenomorphs so out of context that they think it’s the proper name for the species even though 10 minutes earlier they said that no other species like the one Ripley described has ever been seen.

Colonial Marines managed to get dethroned by No Man's Sky and then NMS came back and became the game it promised to be. Colonial Marines is a game that got LAPPED by another in it's dubious category
Man, I remember seeing screenshots in a magazine for this Colonial Marines and it looked a thousand times better. Back when it was supposed to be more of a tactical shooter.
I remember buying this game. Like five bucks. I bought it because I read the patch notes and nearly died of laughter. Figured one way or another, they'd earned my money. I did play a little bit of it. First alien I fought took one claw swipe at me, then ran away and hid in a corner. Steadfastly refused to acknowledge me or leave that corner until it was dead. It was amazing.
that's something that does get mentioned in Prometheus. Peter Weyland found a way to cure most types of cancer. that was a year prior to this game's release
Okay, but hear me out, when certain species of wasps lay their eggs inside of caterpillars, the caterpillar walks around fine even as the larvae hatch and are eating all of its non-essential organs inside. The caterpillar behaves perfectly fine because it doesn't feel any of the ill effects as it's being doped up by the creatures devouring it inside. Similar concept: Even if the larvae are removed, the caterpillar is still a dead man walking, so extracting the alien embryo doesn't undo the damage done to the body.
In my short, aborted playthrough of this abomination, I actually found the AI Marines to be very useful. They could actually kill aliens if given enough time and since the aliens zeroed in on me and pretty much auto-killed me if I stood still long enough to aim, major battles turned into me running around and around the arena while the AI did the killing. It was my first clue that this game was not worth continuing.

Did you hear that they figured out the cause of the game being a giant dumpster fire? A single typo in the coding of the AI for the aliens that allows them to see map data and therefore interact accordingly. Seriously, a single typo turns it from being complete garbage to being a pretty serviceable game.
I would suggest playing it with templargfx overhaul mod. It's actually quote good once you've installed it. So many improvements from the shit Bitchford at gearfucks released !!

My favorite part of Bella's death scene is where everyone was too sad to put her out of her misery and let her live, fully conscious while a parasite was making its way out of her chest cavity, eating through her lungs, ribs and heart, through a shitload of nerve endings causing what must have been absurdly excruciating pain. Then they shot said parasite while she was likely still on the brink of death, since her brain was not damaged so dying would take a while, ensuring that its acid blood would pour on her gaping wound so that she could suffer a bit longer before her actual death, without even lungs intact enough to scream, gurgle, death rattle or curse the fuckers.
Brings a tear to my eye every time... from all the laughter, I mean. I cannot imagine that that scene was meant to be taken seriously under any circumstance. But boy was it directed as if we were meant to.

Rather than simply usher his fellow marines ahead and perhaps asking one to kill him before he suffers and put a round in his chest to stop the xeno about to be birthed, he has the galaxy brained idea to pop a grenade... within spitting distance of his fellow un-egged marines... in the middle of a fragile umbilical bridge... between two spaceships... in space.
But it's directed as if it's meant to be a noble sacrifice and not the absolute stupidest thing a soldier could do that would have likely just killed all of his squad mates too.

I tried the game today just to see if it was as bad as i remember. The alien AI is broken garbage. But i quite like the level and environment design. Its the bad graphics that let it down. You spend too much time shooting soldiers instead of Aliens, and supporting characters get in your way a lot. The weapons sound awesome and the weapon firing animations are great too. The pulse rifle and the shotgun sounds are really great. Id love to see a remaster of this game. With the AI sorted out and the graphics brought up to date. It was the poor graphics that really let the game down and the totally broken AI.
The infamous "teather" line improved the AI *just a little bit,* but the AI is still far below par for the time.

I was waiting to shoot one alien that (acording to motion tracker) should appear in front of me, but the alien knew im waiting for him there so he crawled around to the shaft that was right next to me, killing me instantly. Bug Hunt coop mode is worth alone. And this mode already has fixed AI since it was released later by different team.

21:20 I read an interview where Micheal Biehn talked about how bad the production this game was, and contrasted it with Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, which he said he had a blast doing because the passion the production team had for it really came through in every interaction he had with everyone.

Anyone remember that little error that this game made with the spelling error in the AI?
In 2002 the original A:CM was buzzing around in the Alien communities collective heads. It sounded great. A tactical, squad-based shooter in the Aliens universe where you had to manage a squad of marines. You would have to deal with the aliens capturing your marines, and perform rescue operations, you'd have to manage all of your team's ammo, and it sounded like it would be really intense and fun.
So years later, when Gearbox announced they were going to be making it, at last. I was so excited. This is the company that made Opposing Force! Surely they would understand the Alien film and how to make a good game out o fit!
There are so many janky things about this game... but the one thing that burns me more than anything is the fact that the Aliens aren't the feature opponent of the game. The Weyland Yutani soldiers are the featured opponent. You spend more time shooting humans in an Aliens game, than you do the aliens. The Weyland Yutani troopers should have been a late-game addition, that show up to thicken the plot...Or something you contend with earlier in the game, and then they get out of the way so you can enjoy the main attraction.
At least we got Alien Isolation. Say what you will about it, but at least it got the atmosphere, tension, design, and concepts of the original films right.
Oh, on the subject of the AI and their ability to hit the aliens... They are actually hitting the aliens, but they do about 1/20 of the damage that you do. Wouldn't want to take the kills from the player after all, wouldja? It's not like they couldn't just make the aliens more of a *real* threat and program proper AI for them, like they talked about in the previews. Oh, no. We just have to make the AI allies weak-sauce so that the player feels like a "bad ass." (Any time one of the developers said that in one of their ridiculous featurettes I wanted to smack them. Way to not understand the Colonial Marines in relation to the film they are featured in, you jack asses...)
And then it got revealed that the aliens were retarded because of a typo. They're still not a threat in this game though.
We also got the far superior Alien Infestation on NDS - buy it, emulate it, it's fantastic.
But we did not receive the amazing looking Alien Crucible, because it was cancelled - An RPG style game where you make your character, choose backgrounds, and a lot more of very interesting stuff that'd given that gave a ton of replayability.
So many memories flooding back... damn

That "Theater" bullshit is one thing, but there are also typos for shaders, something that has writen "Ture" instead of "True" or that in one line there is a big letter "A" when it suppose to be little "a". The code in this game is a mess. But with that Overhaul mod, which trailers for version 6 look sick!, it is quite good game, especially the DLC missions.

Fun fact: The game Alien: infestation originally started life as a NDS port of colonial marines before becoming its own separate game. Infestation is a 2D metroidvania which has a large amount of nods to the extended alien universe, including parts of the universe which hadn't made it into the films and were from unused drafts.
I find it surprising that what started as a NDS port of colonial marines not only turned out to be a better than its consoles counterpart, but is also one of the best alien games.

Well they can bite through bone so there’s that plus Irl a breastplate made for bullets isn't much help against blunt impacts. plus the fact that they arnt designed to handle any damage from the back of them. it looks like the Marines are using a steel shirt which is much less effective than segmented plates as its less flexible so it can't move away from impacts it also looks quite thin and maybe reinforced with kevlar or cushioning for comfort in short a creature with a bite force high enough to bite through bone could probably handle that thin layer of steel from its weaker points

When I saw the first AVP in the theater and the predator and surviving female protagonist where running together in slow motion the entire theater erupted in laughter.
They actually stole the idea from Planet of the Hunters, which is a two part book series about a sheriff, who earns the trust and honour of yautja during a ducked up hunt initiated unauthorised by a young yautja, trying to prove himself to score chicks home. Yea, this is really the story. Anyway, the books worked really well, since the sheriff had time and buildup until the moment when she is marked by the old predator with the sign of its clan.
It was laughably stupid in the movie since the girly does crap until the last moment, when she suddenly becomes hero, without warning. Not to mention how immersion breaking her character was. She was badass for reasons... I swear, so few people can write good action-heroines, or just heroines in general, it hurts.

The main plot hole that bugged me wasn't that Hadley hope was still standing after the large nuclear explosion (sounds like a stretch, but why not). But what actually exploded was the atmosphere processer, you know the thing what made the air breathable. Before the atmosphere processer was built during the first movie, all the characters needed space suits to move around on LV-426. In the game how did all the characters not die due to exposure. Did Wayland set a new processer up?
I'm really surprised you don't have more views, this was entertaining as hell to watch.
You've gotta appreciate how the chest bursters are also able to immediately punch a hole trough a thick steel chestplate, complete absurd oversight of the models just so they could have the same medbay scene of the movie.
The best part of the story of A:CM to me is when a modder found out a big chunk of why the AI is so shit is because of a spelling mistake in the code. Like, one of the most goddamn easiest things to find and fix and they couldn't even do/be bothered to do that.

@@tylermcneeley3136I know this is old but soldiers are from the army, marines are from the marine corps, airmen are from the air force aaaaaaaand navy call themselves... sailors? We here in the air force just call them seamen as a joke. I think it is natural to refer to anyone from the military as soldier but we do have our own distinct titles, it's not a matter of being good enough or not. A marine colonel calling another marine "soldier" would probably raise a couple eyebrows in a room full of marines lol
@@TheTherequiem It's largely semantics I guess. I do think that there is a bit of arrogance in regards to how Marines are compared to the Army. Though this kind of interservice rivalry has always existed. I specifically bring up the Army and Marine Corps largely cause their jobs are very similar, at least compared to the AirForce or Navy.

NMS still sucks though. Same vein as animal crossing. Chore simulator gameplay loops for people who have ADD but are too lazy to make any real use of it.

I just realised something. Watch that The cutscene at 6:20, specifically 6:22.
The guy giving the speech has a prosthetic leg. That isn't an issue for me; we've got a sci-fi setting with androids, so yeah they can make prosthetic limbs. Why not have an apparently non-invasive way to interface with a human body, fine. That doesn't bother me.
What bothers me is this limb is very visibly something all piston-y. Despite the fact this is a setting where you can make artificial limbs that are at least as strong as their organic equivalent, indistinguishable from anything but enhanced examination. Is it a military version, so uglier but more sturdy and easy(er) to service?
More fundamentally... why is it visible? He's wearing trousers, why doesn't he just pull the leg down like people I've met irl with prosthetic legs do? Oh right, because he's a soldier and he's fighting with a missing limb, so he's a BADASS and we, the viewers, have to have it shown. Jesus christ. That alone sets the tone for the game before anything else, not the bugs or stupid plot or how the pulse rifle that canonically holds 95 rounds (I might be fuzzy on this but soldiers put 95 in because topping it to full invites jams iirc) now magically holds less than half that.
This guy's leg, that's what sets the tone for this game with me.
Notice how Randy is looking up and to his left during the interview. That means he's accessing the creative part of his brain to make shit up.

Randy Pitchord did at least do one thing right. He helped find a site and get the ball rolling for the establishment of the National Videogame Museum in Frisco, TX. I was bowled over during my visit by the sights, sounds, and memories from video games’ vaunted history. It is a little telling though, that one display is a picture perfect full recreation of Randy’s office at Gearbox. I kept waiting for the animatronic Randy to pop out of a closet...Doh! Great museum, though. Every gamer should make a pilgrimage there, at least once in your life.

Alien trilogy on the saturn was such an amazing fps, literally does everything better than colonial marines. Even managed to make a more functional motion tracker with more variety and fun to use weapons, awesome boss fights and actually atmospheric and scary compared to this shite. Thank god for you civvie, saving us from having to play this ourselves.
Also the music was amazing
The sound team in general at gearbox kicks ass. The weapon amd ambient sounds in the borderlands series generally kick ass with some real standouts.
Music tends to be excellent, albeit somewhat inconsistent.
Voice casting is usually really good for important characters.
Just wish they would cut the bullshit. No one plays gearbox games for uncharted setpieces and dialogue.
"give me a crosshair and make the bullets go there." Gotta agree, I'm so used to right clicking to aim better, that when I play CS, it feels funny just shooting without bringing up the sites.

I will say one thing, they nailed the pulse rifle sound in this game. So satisfying to shoot.
It sounds great but apparently can't hit shit? I don't know. I was living under a rock when this game came out. Totally missed the hype.
I like how the subtext of Aliens is "Look how dangerous and incompetent these marines are" but somehow people walk away from the movie being like "Look how cool and badass these marines are." Like fandom has taken Gorman’s phrase about xenomorphs so out of context that they think it’s the proper name for the species even though 10 minutes earlier they said that no other species like the one Ripley described has ever been seen.
This is what happens when a developer focuses on telling a cinematic story, instead of designing compelling gameplay... and manages to do neither.
This video deserves far more views!

Colonial Marines managed to get dethroned by No Man's Sky and then NMS came back and became the game it promised to be. Colonial Marines is a game that got LAPPED by another in it's dubious category
Man, I remember seeing screenshots in a magazine for this Colonial Marines and it looked a thousand times better. Back when it was supposed to be more of a tactical shooter.

The derelict spacecraft also cracked in-half between Alien and Aliens, canonized in the Aliens extended cut.
I remember buying this game. Like five bucks.
I bought it because I read the patch notes and nearly died of laughter. Figured one way or another, they'd earned my money.
I did play a little bit of it. First alien I fought took one claw swipe at me, then ran away and hid in a corner. Steadfastly refused to acknowledge me or leave that corner until it was dead. It was amazing.
The cancer part was redundant too because we're suppose to believe we have hyper space travel, mech suits but not a cure to cancer yet
that's something that does get mentioned in Prometheus. Peter Weyland found a way to cure most types of cancer. that was a year prior to this game's release
I was more invested in CV-18 than that marine lady in the game

Okay, but hear me out, when certain species of wasps lay their eggs inside of caterpillars, the caterpillar walks around fine even as the larvae hatch and are eating all of its non-essential organs inside. The caterpillar behaves perfectly fine because it doesn't feel any of the ill effects as it's being doped up by the creatures devouring it inside. Similar concept: Even if the larvae are removed, the caterpillar is still a dead man walking, so extracting the alien embryo doesn't undo the damage done to the body.

This was such a hard challenge that me, my friend and some other people completed it on the hardest difficulty on first playthrough

In my short, aborted playthrough of this abomination, I actually found the AI Marines to be very useful. They could actually kill aliens if given enough time and since the aliens zeroed in on me and pretty much auto-killed me if I stood still long enough to aim, major battles turned into me running around and around the arena while the AI did the killing. It was my first clue that this game was not worth continuing.
In that interview, Pandy Richford's eyes slam rapidly from left to right more than a dumb rave kid OD'ing on ecstasy. So he was either lying, or on ecstasy . Probably both. Nystagmus is the clinical terminology.

Did you hear that they figured out the cause of the game being a giant dumpster fire? A single typo in the coding of the AI for the aliens that allows them to see map data and therefore interact accordingly. Seriously, a single typo turns it from being complete garbage to being a pretty serviceable game.
I mean- the game is still shit. But it's not as bad of a shit.
I've played it with the AI fix. It's fun.
I would suggest playing it with templargfx overhaul mod. It's actually quote good once you've installed it. So many improvements from the shit Bitchford at gearfucks released !!
