    LD & Slayer - such an impactful conversation, 13 surgeries in one year whoa 😮 LD. The thoughts you had to even pick up another drink after all of that LD just speaks volumes of how powerful addiction and depression are. You've literally been through hell and back, LD. I truly believe that creating this channel and making these videos was what God had planned for you, and that's why you're still here! I'm glad you decided not to act on those dark thoughts you had back then. I've been there man, it totally sucks, and it's all because of the alcohol! We gave our lives to booze and it gave us nothing but BS in return!! I wish I could tell my younger self to stay away from that crap. Who knows how my life would have turned out if I had never taken a drink?!? Also, you're right about health, it is our most precious asset. If you don't have your health, you have NOTHING, no amount of $$$ matters! You really don't know what you have until it's gone! Another good episode. I too have that necrophobia (is that the word?). I do have a fear of the future and all that uncertainty and have had anxiety issues since I was about 15. Wow, you prompted me to look it up, and while necrophobia is the fear of things associated with death, like dead bodies and funeral parlors, thanatophobia is the fear of your own death. We share this one in common. It can ruin my entire day if I can't push the thought out immediately. What do you do to cope? Now that I'm sober, I have to either reset by exhausting myself and then taking a nap, or I just find family and feel bad but good about doing something about it lol have a great day, Shades. ❤😊

    I absolutely relate to you because whenever I know that I'm totally depressed it's because I think about the fact that we will not exist at some point, I will dwell on that that each of us will not exist… But when I am not depressed I don't even think about it at all… So I know that is my depression trigger, once I start thinking about the fact that we are not going to exist someday getting into my depressive state.

    • @kathrynminnick8986
      @kathrynminnick8986 2 месяца назад +1

      Perhaps you can look at the concept of existence in a broader way. Every single one of the molecules that form you at this moment will continue to exist. The spirit that you are has already embedded itself where it belongs . . . in the hearts of others. The only thing that passes with death is the ego, the sense of a self that dies, a nervous, anxious self that continuously is rattled by desire and anxiety, that seeks pleasures that don't last. If you've loved or been loved, you've already reached the pinnacle of what this life is about. And if you haven't, then open your heart and let love flow in. It is all around us.🌺

    • @amandaflaherty7528
      @amandaflaherty7528 2 месяца назад

      I feel this, Janet. I'm sorry you go through it. I treat those thoughts like I treat my anxiety in general. I try to get out and do something about it, first. It puts me into fight or flight, so I tend to need to burn that energy. I'll call a family member or loved one and get out (or have them over), or I'll burn that energy however I can and take a nap. The first option could help with your depression as well, but I'm fully aware that depression also leaves you feeling drained. It's just what works for me. Hope you're having a great weekend so far! ❤😊

    • @amandaflaherty7528
      @amandaflaherty7528 2 месяца назад +1

      @@kathrynminnick8986I love this, Kathryn. My father and I used to talk about energy all the time. About how the world around us is just energy vibrating.. what were perceiving as solid is just a collection of countless, vibrating molecules. It sometimes helps me to think in that way because you're right. Or energy doesn't just die when we do. My fear of death is because it's an unknown and I don't understand it. Our current experience of existence ends when we die, but none of us can say with full certainty what happens after. All that we can do now is love the people, the living things and the world around us, and to enjoy it all for what it is. Which is beautiful. ❤❤

    Omg, this conversation started off by blowing me away. I said that my major anxiety started at a young age. But I can remember my first panic attack clearly. I was seven, and I kept my mom up all night, calming me down and talking about God and heaven because I realized that we all die and I COULD NOT handle it. It has been a constant panic trigger in my life since that moment. I imagine that most of us experience moments of cold sweats when the thought inevitably passes through. I always wondered if others thought about this as frequently as I do. But it will at times just get in my brain and ruin my whole day. I definitely enjoyed how alcohol distracted me from that. I don't think I specifically used it for that reason, but I definitely didn't think so much about it, and it did a great job of removing cares of any sort from my life. Bad news is I woke up in a total mess when I finally got sober, so I'd still prefer to just panic every once in a while. My rock bottom was when my father was battling cancer and he called me one night. It was for something small, thank God. But not only did I miss the call because I was passed out drunk, but even if I caught the call, I couldn't go to him or help him because I was drunk. I also showed him that he could not rely on me. I did not quit at that moment, but I began tapering. A month before he died I put the stuff down. The day he died I knew I wasn't touching it again because I was feeling so much grief and it wasn't his fault. But I don't ever want to have a direct hand in putting my family through that grief. That day was two years ago yesterday. After that choice, I started thinking again about the frailty of life and how little time I have to make meaningful memories with the ones I love. I thought about all the time lost. So now, when I'm tempted to drink, I think about all of that. And usually I'll go find some family to be with. Sometimes, I just grab some food and veg out, too. But I always think about the big picture, my losses, and all the memories waiting to be made. I'm going to say it again..
    SLAYER GET OUT OF MY BRAIN hahah I appreciate so much knowing that others deal with that to the same or a similar level as me. I'm truly sorry for the anxiety you feel, but it makes me feel a little better to know that I'm not alone in that being such a regular experience. Just so you know, Slayer, it helps to find someone you love or to do something you love in those moments. Even though I still feel the fear and the sorrow, I get to know that I'm not squandering my time, and eventually whatever I'm doing tends to distract me. If that's not possible then I just try to exhaust myself and then take a nap lol like a reset. Thank you both so much for such wonderful insight!! I specifically appreciate how much ypu think about your family now with all of your decisions, LD. I really appreciate how much you appreciate having this time with them and having the opportunity to take care of them. Here's to a lifetime more of making memories with the ones we love, my friend. Sorry this was so long, my jaw just hit the floor when Slayer started talking. I'm still trying pick it back up lol I hope everyone here has a wonderful weekend! Love to all ❤❤❤😊❤❤❤

      My first “big thought” that I remember was when I was about five years old: “What would there be if there wasn’t anything?” That just about fried my brain circuitry. Although that thought (non-existence) was not about death per se, it was “death adjacent.” It reminds me that kids, from a young age, are thinking big, stressful or mind-boggling thoughts. Not surprising that for some people alcohol can provide a welcome relief from the anxiety associated with such thoughts. Unfortunately, alcohol can’t solve the underlying existential issue causing the anxiety and then adds another whole set of problems.

    • @amandaflaherty7528
      @amandaflaherty7528 2 месяца назад

      @kathrynminnick8986 exactly. I don't think I ever drank specifically to escape those thoughts, but more to medicate myself for my anxiety in general. But I think that had I focused on taming, or at least living with my anxiety from a younger age, then I may not have leaned so heavily on drinking later. Although, I really can't be sure of that since alcoholism runs in my family, and I loved the stuff from my first sip. I'm not sure what the answer is to managing the existential crisis outside of trying to live fully and love fully. I just try to find my people and throw my energy into them or reset. I hope you've had a great week, my friend 😊❤️

You seesaw smoothly between each other’s mini “monologues” with neither person monopolizing the conversation.
