- If you are interested in the bari altissimo fingerings that I use, I would be happy to send you a chart of my custom baritone fingerings. Email me at info@jeffsuzda.com (English or français)
I am using a Paraschos wooden baritone saxophone neck and a 9* Otto Link mouthpiece, La Voz MH reed, with a Selmer Mark VI saxophone baryton . Видеоклипы
Those high notes are amazing. Nice loud and clear
Thanks Steve. I’ve got a few videos in the pipeline this summer so keep an eye out
Glad you dig it Steve!
I can't even go that high on my alto...
"well technically uhh...."
Same
tf4ever11 I’m not sure I could get that high if I had a soprano
tf4ever11 Lol
You just need to know how to play altissimo on the alto and boom it’s like hearing a dog whistle
ok altissimo is cancelled seen as though none of you know how to behave
Chris, YES THERE ARE 4 OCTAVES! Most people don't play altissimo on the baritone because it takes a lot work to (1) play in tune, (2) sound good and (3) play consistently.
Feel free to send me an email if you are interested in the fingerings, but it takes more work with the air and with the tongue position than simply the fingerings.
I will be posting some "how to play altissimo on the baritone saxophone" videos very soon.
Practice... slowly....and with a tuner.... this is basically the secret to making anything better musically! I have a series of altissimo exercises that I developped for myself as well, and I will make a video in the next few months explaining some of them.
Great tone! Really nice work. Not sure how often you'll need to play bari in the fourth octave, but awesome!
Not quite true. A working baritone sax player may not need the fourth octave but a soloist needs every bit of technique he/she can get!
@@mambojazz1”Not sure how often” is not a statement that can be true or false
@@Xavier_Dimoff "not sure how often" literally implies "you dont need it" its the English language 🙄
@@mambojazz1 “Not sure how often” literally means that he is unsure of how often it will be useful. You’re reading too much into it, putting words in his mouth, and trying to act like an authority when you’re not
@@mambojazz1 And also, technically speaking, it is completely unnecessary as soloists are free to never touch altissimo if they so please. I’ve never heard Gary Mulligan play altissimo and Charlie Parker rarely went above high F
Thank you Jeff for this lesson, and your document!
Merci Jeff pour cette leçon, et ton document !
It sounds like a kid is screaming 😂😂
Wait a second
yea.. a spoiled kid
Beautiful!!
What a beautiful horn!
That is a beautiful instrument you play. The playing is okay too.
finally a player that can play all registers so smoothly!!!!!!
You play higher on your Bari than I do on my alto *MINDBLOWNED*
That was very helpful. Thank you.
A harder reed worked for me as it can still vibrate that high, but of course this won't work for everyone but its worth a shot
yes I like 4 octive
I find it odd how you manage to play a high note that sounds far higher than what I thought was the highest note on my alto sax while using a bari sax. It looks like one of the notes was like an A but with the fingering upside down and another note looked like a C# but with an embochure so tight that it adds an extra octave. This style of playing sounds really epic but I wouldn't be surprised if it would totally freak out an orchestra conducter.
Oo, muito bom pegou as armonicas legal
A god in the making
Brilliant! I would love to hear you do that on the soprillo!
Killyclogher That would hurt XD
A 4 octave chromatic scale on a Soprillo would be very impressive.
That will come in handy
Very good👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks so much!
I have never checked. Sorry. FOR ME: The quality of the music is the most important, so if it sounds good when you play an extremely high note.... then it is OK, but once it becomes a gimic and is not consistent, it doesn't really matter how high you can go if it doesn't sound good and/or reliable? Make sense?
That is crazy how high and low it can get.
It’s possible on all saxophones …. Just keep practicing and try to “hear” the tones. Glad you enjoyed the video
Muito bom 🖒🖒👏
Thank you!!!
It is the A four octaves above the 'Low A' on the baritone saxophone.
That is just stunning. I wish I could do that.
It just takes practice. If you want to learn, I suggest that you put your mind to it and give it a try… you might be surprised. Feel free to email me (in description) if you want a fingering chart. Good luck and believe in yourself! It will take time but anything worth doing takes hard work to learn
@@jeffsuzda Thank you. I am emailing now. Your post is 11 years old and I wasn't sure your email would still be right :)
Hmm good to hear its nothing different from normal practice, (some time on trumpet taught me keeping it slow) I'm just glad my teachers taught me the main secret when I started on B. Clar
What neck is that and also smooth very smooth beautiful playing
Every saxophone has the ABILITY to play 4 octaves. BUT..... to be able to play all the notes, you have to use some fingerings that are not "normal". Using normal fingerings, most saxophones will play two and a half octaves, but with practice, you can play more.
nice horn
Hi, I've played the alto sax for a good 5 years but my band teacher wants a bari sax players. Can you tell me if this will be a good transition if I decide to play the bari sax?
Maiya 624 Go for it. I was put it the same situation in middle school. You just have to be comfortable with a few things.
1: it's about 5x as heavy as an alto
2: you're going to have to blow a lot of air
3: you won't be getting too many melodies
thank u very much! i just switched and itd really great
Maiya 624 My junior year I switched from lead alto to bari so I could play in the top band and bari has been a ton of fun
Maiya 624 Best sax man :) been playing it for 4 years now
Maiya 624 same I am deciding if I'm going to switch from clarinet to tener or Bari
Actually theres an octave above that is controlled completely by embouchure. My highest was an octave and a fourth above what the guy in the video played (btw great job i havent learned the fourth octave but skipped to fifth myself ;/ ) for an example search up one of dizzy gillespie's "a night in tunisia" videos with a bari and two trumpets LOVE THE VID
Oh yeah I understand that completely (haha that's why I try to boost the trumpets) Really I meant to say is I can play to the 5th A but I can "touch" a fourth or so higher but its so choked that it sounds like when you bite out a note-Bad. By the way how did you get your altissimo register (G above high F to double C) so smoothly? I had made the mistake of finding the extreme high register when trying to get the basic Alt register and am now trying to back track to get a clear sound y'know
I feel like your fingers are moving slower then the notes
It's a video delay
The high Double Altissimo A? I can play chromatically up to there too but not nearly as smooth as you.
Jeff what strap are you wearing?
There's actually a Famous Jazz Bari player that can play 5 octaves, cannot remember his name but he made up fingerings to play in the octave below the low A. He's a beast it's just so unreal.
please give some evidence
@@ryancrow2773 lol
Below the low A? My dude that is another instrument.
The late Hamiet Bluiett played 5 octaves on his baritone. John Surman and James Carter can also play the high register.
Received the fingering system .Thanks awfully.Great to know that there are people out there willing to share what they have learnt painstakingly. You are a great performer and an even greater friend .Thanks Mr. Suzda
how high are you able to go? I can hit the 5th A with a 4 3/4 reed but its hard to tune of course so it scoops a lot and isn't as clean as yours (I use it to slide to back up jazz trumpets)
Can I have the fingering chart ?
Does the custom fingering chart work with any model?
Are all Bari saxs 4 octives? I play alto but I'm Switching to Bari for symphonic band. Plz reply :)
Barítono fala bonito.
What was the top note? D?
Hi Jeff I'm having problems getting out notes like low C and downwards any help?
Yes. I would HIGHLY recommend playing long tones (just long and stable notes) in the bottom of your instrument before you try to master anything else. I would start on a note that you CAN play - like a D - and play it for a while. Then move down to a Db/C#. Play it for a while. Once those are great, try to add C. Once that is good, add the B. Continue for Bb ( and then A if you have one).
Hey there Jeff, could you hit me up with that fingering chart please?
hello! i am wondering if buyind the woonden neck also, is it worth it, can you really notice a difference?
Great question. I notice a difference in terms of sound and feel with “color” more than anything else. I will try to put a video together really outlining the differences with a spectral analysis but it is a “feeling”. I use the wooden neck in small solo settings more than with big band. I will put a video together soon showing the differences as a comparison.
Amzing, cant wait for the video! great palying
What brand is your bari?
Nice job.
His bari is a seller mk6
how can you go that high?
Patience.... Practice.... and most importantly, "hearing" the sound. This means that the fingerings alone don't do much if you don't hear the sound in your head. I have several videos that may help you with the preparation, but most of the altissimo work happens with the AIR and the TONGUE POSITION. Let me know if you would like a fingering chart.
Cyborg... please send me an email (my address is in the description) and I will respond with a chart!
I would love to have the fingering chart! my bari goes down to the low up and up the the high f# if that helps. YBS62s
Taylor Grey There is much, much more that goes into this than just a fingering chart. Get a teacher to guide you in the right direction. If you cant do that, get a few books like the Rousseau or the Sinta to help you along and practice it everyday.
Joshua Huff Thank You, I'll check into that!
You made my ears nearly go deaf, Youre awesome.
Sim ... há quatro oitavas para o saxofone barítono. Quem é Arnaldo?
E como conseguir isso? Na embocadura ou no dedilhado?
I can scream up there in tune too I just never put the effort into making it into a chromatic exercise. Looks like a new project for myself.
To be clear; 4 Bbs, 3 octaves in range.
Hi Dave. Thanks for comment. I play 5 “A”s on the baritone here. The low A (below staff), A in staff, A above staff with octave key, Altissimo A, Double Altissimo A. This is a span on 4 full octaves. Are you a Bari player? I always like connecting with fellow musicians.
@@jeffsuzda Yes, among other instruments: ruclips.net/video/nF-kukfOV6Q/видео.html
oh. mah ears.
Quatro oitavas???
Pode isso, Arnaldo???
can i get the fingering chart?Miguel Angel Hernandez
Please send me an email and I will gladly send you the fingerings. info@jeffsuzda.com
Take your time and practice slowly with a tuner. Move the tempo up only after you have mastered the tempo you are working on. You will get it!
Could I have a fingering chart?
+Dj Nokes Sure thing, but can you please send me an email? I will send it to you once I get it. Send me a quick note at info @ jeffsuzda.com
My ears
Amazing! I stop on my D on tenor and can't get higher so that gives me 3 octaves and a third... I can't try either because I have neighbors... Congratulations!
Jean-Philippe Cote
what saxophone is that
Prem Pendkar bari
i know but what brand
Prem Pendkar Selmer Mark VI
i didn't know that there was 4 octaves on the bari sax
consider my mind blown
Yo the top note be soundin like a angry recorder
I am my soprillo saxophone

Can I have a fingering chart?
Please email me at the address in the description. Thanks!
fingering chart to me please. thank you.

Mic has been PEAKED
i can reach D altissimo
that would be weird considering the baris are designed for that A to be the lowest note
ottis679 yes they are
MY EARS
Only 2 of those octaves sound like a bari sax
Wish the tenor sax had the low A key =(
Ngl,it sounds like an oboe at the highest notes
HOW THE HELL DO YOU PLAY THAT HIGH A!!!!! I TRY SOOO HARD AND CANT DO IT! PLEASE HALP
3 octaves but I’m more impressed how quickly he does it.
No its FOUR octaves!! He starts on the low A of the baritone and goes on. You probably thought its only three because his altissimo sounds so full and natural
@@mambojazz1 moron
I generally don’t comment on conversations but I always appreciate interaction with viewers. I suppose you are both right. I view it as 4 octaves (low a to middle a is octave 1, middle a to octave a is octave 2, octave a to altissimo a is octave 3, altissimo a to double altissimo a is octave 4)…. BUT I see how you might view it as three octaves if you are counting the number of octaves above the lowest note.
Either way, I hope the video inspired you both to learn some altissimo. If I can help make a video with new content, feel free to let me know
@@mambojazz1 no
@@q12aw50 YES its four octaves there is no debate to be had about the meaning of the word "octave"🤣🤣! There are plenty of music education sources on google. I hope this helps😁

Soprano who?
No Low A Key? Aw bummer. :S
Bricks Have Been Shat...
That has to be 5 octive
That's only 3 octaves, but holy shit nice
That was 4 octaves, what do you mean?
Definitely four octaves lol idk what y'all are talking about
When you play the octave notes at the end it is only 3 octaves.....still insane tho
Earrape
wow man, I made the mistake by learning practical range and then learning to scream, without altissimo :/
you cut Hamiet Bluiett
The late hamiet bluiett was one of a kind.
@@BKrystall yeah wow I was a really stupid kid when I commented that. Hamiet was an absolute legend I had no idea what I was talking about
This is done with smoke and mirrors!!!
