    Just beautiful! Love your comment about no fuss with the Rega. Going to be getting back into vinyl and I’m very tempted with the Rega Planer6 and ania mc. Love the British sound. Have always owned made in UK speakers. First album I’ll play is my Led Zeppelin Classic Records albums.

      P6 is a superb choice, it’s worth spending a bit more for the Ania Pro (Ania isn’t a bad sounding cartridge but gave me a few problems with inner groove distortion). Thanks for listening 👍🏻

      Thanks, I love the P8! It’s so nicely balanced in its sound and great to live with. No fuss maintenance for the long run like all Rega’s. Sound is precise, detailed and sharp without being cold, thin or clinical. Sounds mature at the same time retains what the P1, P2, P3 etc have in the musicality, fun factor.

    How does the MP200 compare with the AT Microline cartridge you have used on this turntable. Which do you prefer?
    I am using the ATVM95 Shibata at present and will soon be due to replace it. In the past I’ve used Nagaoka MP11 Boron which I also enjoyed.
    I’m using Heed Obelisk Mk 2 with X2 power supply - Queatar and PSU.
    Many thanks

    • @gustoaudio8711
      @gustoaudio8711  9 месяцев назад +1

      I have a slight preference for the MP200’s character with most music I listen to, but I’d say given the prices these days the AT-VM740ML is better value for money. Can’t really fault either to be honest, the Nagaoka is a bit more lush, the AT a bit more fresh. It’s down to taste and synergy ultimately. I’ve heard the VM95ML but not done any meaningful comparison so not sure how much of an improvement the generator makes between the VM95 and VM540/740, might be worth trying the ML stylus if you fancy a tweak to the sound, seems to be the most popular. The Rigby mod for the VM95 is highly regarded too, I’ve seen a lot of positive feedback about it

      @@gustoaudio8711 thanks for the reply and I appreciate your opinion. I recently added a Heed X2 to my Heed Obelisk and it’s now working as a dual mono.
      For about 2 years I’ve used the ATVM95 SH which has the Shibata.
      It has a more rich and fuller midrange than the AT440MLb I’ve used in the past. However, during the past week I’ve returned the Nagaoka MP11 Boron to the system, it’s better than both the AT cartridge’s in my system.
      When it comes to a stylus replacement I will probably opt for an MP200
      The X2 has elevated the performance of the system very nicely too, a little more detail with deeper bass and greater soundstage, very pleased. I bought it as a used bargain. Thanks again.

    • @gustoaudio8711
      @gustoaudio8711  9 месяцев назад +1

      X2 is a very worthwhile upgrade! Even with the si3 where it only increased power marginally, the improvements to soundstage, bass and resolution was noticeable. Are you still using the RX3’s?

    • @sam66hazmal
      @sam66hazmal 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@gustoaudio8711 yes I have the RX3’s still in my system, I have enjoyed using them, however I will be looking at replacing them in future. I also use a pair of Reference 3A Dulcet stand mounted speakers which are good.
      Any recommendations for floorstanders to go with the Heed ?

    • @gustoaudio8711
      @gustoaudio8711  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@sam66hazmalNever easy recommending speakers as it’s so personal and room acoustics usually play such a part. But I’d take a look at Monitor Audio Silvers, Kef could work well too. With smaller speakers I had good results with PMC DB1 Gold and Kef LS50’s, Kef’s R series would probably be even better and older models can be found at good prices. I’d imagine Dynaudio and Harbeth would work very nicely. If you can find Heed Enigmas the synergy is fantastic of course! They practically take room acoustics out of the equation too. I saw some being advertised on Pink Fish not long ago for around £1200, not cheap but still a bargain if in budget

      Thanks for the response. Mine just happened to be a clear pressing. I was totally surprised when I removed it from the sleeve. I'm generally not a fan either, especially of colored records as the quality generally, not 100% of the time, suffers from the manufacturing process of these types of records...which I'm sure you know. Man, I was just listening to Kind of Blue the other day. It's pretty much in my weekly rotation. I have a so-so pressing but I still enjoy it. Especially Flamenco Sketches. (Miles D.) @@RUfromthe40s

      Some of the records with the worst surface noise I can remember in recent years were on limited edition clear vinyl, but Analogue Productions highest quality reissues (UHQR) are pressed on 200gram transparent vinyl and supposedly sound incredible. I find it all hit and miss, I have some great sounding coloured vinyl and plenty of terrible ones too, but the same with black and clear vinyl. So many variables!

      Great choices. Elixir might actually the component that gave me the most musical joy in all of my journey to date in a simple system with P8, Abacus DAC and Rega RX3’s. Great sound and so nice to live with. I miss it.
      Of course I’d be lying if I said Obelisk and Thesis aren’t capable of punchier, deeper and more sophisticated sound, but there’s something about that little integrated and the matching DAC that are an absolute pleasure, it’s so easy to forget about the technicalities of HiFi. • @gustoaudio8711
      @gustoaudio8711  Год назад +1

      True an iPhone mic and YT compression is never going to capture the full quality but you still get a sense of a lot of what is there. I think you can get a sense that the frequency range is balanced wherever the listener is positioned in the room (right up to the extremes), that the image also hangs together as you move around. Also scale, holigraphy, sense of air and space. This speaker design is like an antidote to problematic room-speaker relationships, and I think the way it’s captured even with an iPhone mic you can sense that acoustic conditions in the room are much less influential on the result than if you record typical direct loudspeakers

      @@gustoaudio8711 i agree with you but having my system with a line from the computer output without any efect just plain sound of the sound board from altec(at least is what it says there) it sounds great but one when putting a record to play it sounds a lot better and it´s a technics from the 70´s ,with a good but old cartridge from shure with original stylus bought at the time because in the city where i live which is district capital ,the more close hi-fi or music store it´s 400 KM´s away ,he used to buy 10 new needles for each diferent cartridge he had at home, mine was a SL-1710 (78)with the 207C cartridge which was developed for technics by Nagaoka as they asked recentelly to do another for the release of the SL-1000R or GR ,which also sounds great so i can listen to good sound from youtube but when hearing another source it tops the sound of the computer but also a friend of mine with is expensive iphone(it cost more than alf of his monthly wage), recorded a video with it´s pro-ject turntable and also sounds good(lot´s of high´s), but in his system ,i don´t even have a reference for how bad it sounds with the horrible 2mred from Ortofon which used to be a brand that we could refer as quality in all their cartridges at the time , i don´t know if you remenber Dual turntables in early 80´s having a high quality in sound using OM type cartridges that don´t come near or bad as this new series OM of Ortofon cartridges and stylus ,in the side of the cartridge it said DUAL (on the ones installed in their turntables), it´s a bit subjective , i´m using now a dual mono amplifier from Pioneer with some big Mission towers(late 80´s)with a SL-1000 mkII from technics with M91ED from shure mkIII (i think)with a frequency response of 20-20khz but also have a Grado with a frequency response from 15hz-32khz and the sound is very good compared to new expensive systems, i only made this remark because there are several videos that are ridiculous when comparing cartridges like if we could hear a sound close to what they sound, but i understand what you mean ,miracles don´t happen and you´re showing a very good sound ,at least that´s what i heard from my computer , now all hi-fi components from my father belong to me ,i have more equipment than i need for all my life ,i´m assembling now a SP-1 with all the parts my father bought in the 70´s, that i´m thinking to conect to a accuphse amplifier and some old Celestion speakers that i´m in doubt if i use some JBL very close to some old altec lansing from the studio my father assembled in 1971, being the L in JBL for lansing so i guess they will sound better after restored ,i think i´ll never upload a video for youtube after reading some hilarious but sad coments, after joining my father´s record colection to mine i think i have at least 4.500 records of Jazz recorded from mid 40´s till late 70´s, some critisize Miles Davis for it´s change in style and band in the 70´s but i do love those albums he had to be ahead of all and when mixing is sound to modern at the time funky sound with uah uah and fat cat pedals on the guitar with the sound of bass and drums characteristic of those years sound to me very good ,bitches brew is an LP that i listened everyday last week but didn´t hear it since the 80´s it felt like a incredible new sound , allthough i love all older forms of Jazz having also a lot of records from rock bands and other styles more recent ,like Soul Mining from The The(two songs) or Magnetic Fields and loving some new bands of what they call classic rock or psychedelic and new folk bands spreading world wide ,some say music is horrible today but, like in other times ,they don´t know where to look only if in front of their eyes. now i´m listening to a old Sun Ra doble LP with his arkestra, no noises are heard when music is playing in most of my records ,almost no humidity in the air where i live ,i think it helped. No matter what, it sure sounds great you´re video

    Wich turntable sounds better to you the rega or goldnote?

    • @gustoaudio8711
      @gustoaudio8711  Год назад

      I’ve been asked this a few times, it’s a matter of taste really and without comparing side by side with the same cartridge it’s hard to say which sounds best. I’d say the Gold Note has a more solid authoritative sound, more emphasis on the lower midrange (you could call it a rosier or more romantic sound). The Rega’s emphasis is more on the upper mids, it’s a bit snappier but no lack of weight either. Both time really well, the Gold Note seems like a direct drive in its solidity, Rega is the more fluid rhythmically engaging player. I do much prefer the Rega arm, in part due to the terrible arm lift mechanisms on Gold Note tables (mine is definitely not a one off in that respect either). To cut a long story short, my overall preference is for the P8. The design is lovely in a completely different way, but not to everyone’s taste. I find the sound balance perfect, mature but still fun. But if it was possible to fit a Rega arm onto the Gold Note Giglio I would do that! (Gold Note make arm board mounts to fit their own arms to other decks like Rega, but not vice versa unfortunately)

    Interesting to note that I have a P3 50th, so same tone arm as your P8 and I'm running the same MP-200 cart. But, the front edge of my cart sits much closer to the front edge of my tone arm.
