The Rack is back (temporarily)
I was trying to sell this rack for ages but too heavy/expensive/fragile for shipping and no one wanted it enough to come and collect. So whilst I needed to do some cable tidying anyway and had some time on my hands I thought I’d try it out in this basement and see if I could live with it. It’s a really nice piece of furniture and the walnut is a very close match for my Heed speakers (even thoug...

Withnail & I on vinyl - some original pieces from side B (composed by David Dundas & Rick Wentworth)

Four of the original compositions by David Dundas & Rick Wentworth from this quite rare UK pressing of the soundtrack to the british classic 80’s comedy Withnail & I. The record was pulled from sale on its first day of release as the Hendrix estate threatened to sue. Lucky to have found this copy in fantastic condition many years ago. One last outing for the Rega RX5 before they are moved on to their new home (sold). Lovely speakers that I’ve enjoyed previously with Rega’s own Elicit-R amplifier, Heed’s Elixir and Obelisk, and especially the synergy with these five quality watts from the G•Lab BLOCK. Favourite cure song. 👍🏻
Very nice ❤❤❤❤
Danny would have a fit if he placed his hands on those speakers. 😂
You having fun there...lol. Nice presentation and set-up 🍺 👍 🔈 🔊....!
I never even thought of placing the record jacket inside the dust cover like that -- genius!
Man, the music play. Great system too.
I wonder, has anyone ever tried either "Breaking in" a particular new audio component by giving an initial auditioning then handing it to over to a friend to do over a couple of weeks? Or in the case of say, a new cartridge/stylus, giving it an initial auditioning then running it for the requisite "Break-in" period without amplification before listening again. The object of the exercise ? An attempt to demonstrate that the highly dubious assertion that all new HIFI components just so happen to perform/sound better after a certain amount of use, is in fact audiophool nonsense ! In my opinion it has very little to do with the claimed beneficial, physical changes brought about by the so-called "breaking-in" process and everything to do with the brain taking a little while to overcome the initial "offence" over the shift in sonic characteristics when a new component is substituted in an otherwise familiar sounding system. Look forward to the green-penners and HI FI fuse buyers responses !
Strange but Fantastic 👌. Jim🏴🙂
Try a SUMIKO
With all respect as a speaker builder I must say that your speaker is one of the worst I've ever seen, comparable to the vintage Bose 601, I say this because wall reflections is what we need to avoid and this speaker creates ceiling reflections, impossible to get image and soundstage
I think Zsolt Huszti knows a thing or two about speaker design. These have nothing to do with those old Bose speakers, imaging and soundstage are outstanding. The soundstage becomes the whole room, imaging remains solid anywhere you move, like it does in reality. It’s not confined by the boundaries and reflections of two direct speakers. They aren’t perfect, no speaker is, of course there’s things other speakers do better but when it comes to releasing music into the room in the most natural and lifelike way, I’ve not heard anything like them. This design does more to remove room interaction than anything I’ve heard. Don’t judge by appearance
Wrong , omnis are where it’s at , no sweet spot just music filling your entire room.Once you get used to them all directly radiating speakers sound plain wrong.
You nailed it once again ! I like the punch of the Head power amps !
Wonderful
Well done Sir ! I am feeling it. Very satisfying system that you own Sir !
🙏 thank you, there’s always some little tweaks to be made here and there but I am satisfied!
Sounding excellent buddy 👌. Have you been getting a new turntable? Like number 2 from me 😉. You have the twin of our dog, but ours has just had his summer hair cut and looks a bit like a rat now! 😉🤣 Jim🏴🙂
Cheers Jim, the turntable isn’t new, I’ve got it boxed up currently, it’s the same one in my profile picture. (the video is one I had on my phone from some time ago). I don’t have two systems any more so I need to keep one turntable and move the other one on but not sure which! Is your dog a Norwich Terrier? Great dogs, annoying when he wants to be, but utterly loveable!
@@gustoaudio8711 he actually belongs to my son, we always end up with some of his and my daughter's pets, I think my wife kidnappes them! 😂 He's a Terrier of some sort and looks very like yours and is the same colour.
You need acoustic guitars panels. Asap
Acoustic guitar panels on my walls? That’s a bit odd
Great looking and great sounding ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Great setup and choice of music but what happened to the nagaoka MP500 cartridge?
Cheers, it’s the same cartridge, it is actually an MP500 but I’ve got a 300 stylus on it for now - I think they share the same generator anyway. I’m preserving the 500 stylus for now and the 300 sounds really good anyway, more forgiving on worse condition records but the 500 definitely has the edge on quality vinyl.
Tweeter is at 60 degrees off axis. We want Spinorama on these.
What is spinorama?
@@gustoaudio8711 CEA2034 measurements - On Axis, Off axis, Listening window, Directivity index, Predicted in room response. Someone should send these to Amir or Erin.
@@gustoaudio8711 Don't know what YT did with my comment. That is measurements according CEA2034 standard, include on axis, off axis responses, direct and reflected sound power, listening window , predicted in room response and directivity indexes.
I love the rack and believe I've mentioned it before. I am very surprised it hasn't been snapped up! Jim🏴😉
Cheers Jim, there was quite a few interested but Spain is a big place and the north is too far for most! Too heavy and fragile to ship, each glass shelf weighs 12kg so that’s nearly 50kg before the solid blocks and fittings are added. It actually got some damage on the way to me originally but luckily because of the way it can be put together the dent is hidden on the rear
@@gustoaudio8711 Although my rack is not as heavy, my Atacama Equinox was delivered on a pallet from England to Scotland, think it cost around £80 if my memory is correct.
Thanks for your reply! I will check it out. Really love the tonal balance on your setup('s) keep those video's comming 😊
Which cables do you use? Excellent sound!
Thank you. I have Rega Couple 2 RCA from phono stage to preamp and HiDiamond 4 RCA from preamp to power amp. Speaker cables are Ricable Magnus mk2. I got almost all my cables second hand, not very expensive.
Lovely stuff 👌
Linn axis walk that song
Nice, thinking about buying a P8 as well
👍🏻 I don’t think you would regret it
Ever check out Shahinian acoustics?? The best in speakers.
Not heard any but I’m aware they were an inspiration in the design of these Heed speakers and the non-direct aspect
One of the best upgrades for ant rega table is to replace the arm with Michelle Technoarm A. This is a modified tone arm from the P2 turntable and specifically not the arm from the P3 ( with the spring dial) simpler is better and it’s a fantastic arm.
Lovely set-up!
A brilliant find my friend.
Excellent sound and a brilliant movie.👌
Absolute classic movie!
Huge nod to your set up. I just am not a fan of the RP8 design. Sounds pretty good though.
It does split opinion aesthetically. Form after function and all that. Personally whilst I really like the looks of it (at least when the toilet lid dustcover is removed) I still think the P6 is their most beautiful model, pure understated class and simplicity. P8’s more radical design does benefit its sound quality though
Lighting looks great 👍
Great visuals and sound 👍
I'm guessing that your system sounds great, but I'm sure that is beautiful to look upon. the combination of the Heed electronics with the Rega sources is just gorgeous!
Thank you for sharing, I subscribed 👏
Thank you 🙏
'The RX5s look good on paper but fail to bring music to life'. 'These Regas don’t quite deliver the music with the enthusiasm we expect.' What's a Hifi (What Hi-fi?) didn't like them but what do they know?
I sometimes wonder if they have the same products, it’s certainly not an observation I’d make about them with the amplifiers I’ve tried. In terms of bringing music to life they have a quite outstanding quality to the midrange that make them sound far more expensive especially on vocals and wind instruments. Very natural and easy on the ear. To be fair they do shine most with a bit of volume in a good sized space, but I wouldn’t ever call them dull. Treble is how I like it from a soft dome, bass is powerful and weighty enough but tight and agile if well controlled. Above all it’s the cohesion they’ve managed to achieve that I appreciate most, that gives them that good sense of rhythm that is in Rega’s DNA
Nice... Ophidian is a relatively obscure brand that shouldn't be underestimated and should more widely known... very musical set up
Thanks, they’re really good! From the tiny Minimo’s up, great bass, great clarity and very engaging musically. I’m won over by the combination of soft dome tweeter and aluminium mid-bass units. Especially when it comes to drums and percussion
Nice setup. I have a heed orbit PSU for my rega p25. Heed kit reminds me of my Meridian 200 series kit, cheers from 🇺🇸
Classic british compact hifi, I love the half width format!
Heed speakers remind me of Sonabs! Nice gear
Same principle I think, Shahinian is another non-direct speaker that I believe inspired Zsolt at Heed when designing these. Thanks for your comment
Sempre rimarchevole la qualità. Complimenti.
Grazie ancora
Nice 👌
Someone is getting a good set of speakers. 👌 Sounding wonderful. Jim🏴🙂

Bravo.
Don't buy any modern vinyl, they've all been through an AD/DA...... only vinyl from the early 80's or before is guaranteed to be a pure analog signal path from musician to your ears.
Ottimo come sempre. Rimarrai a bocca aperta come successe a Mark Levinson. Saluti da Roma.
Grazie - note taken. If I ever see a pair for €100 I will try to buy them for sure! I see there has been movement of these on HiFi Shark especially in Germany
Grazie amico mio
Great !
Very very nice vibe. Love the system as well.
Grazie! In June I will be visiting Rome for the second time, I love it there. I wonder if the little record store is still there on the Vatican side of the river, can’t remember the name. I brought some nice vinyl home last time
