Heavy bags all the way! I love feeling like a tank roving through the woods.... the look on someone's face when I turn around and they're like, "oh, you're not just a pack with legs...."
Enjoyed your video and learned a few things. I love it that you seem to always remind people of why we go to the woods in the first place, to enjoy ourselves. So many people go just to enjoy themselves without really caring about the survivalist mentality and there is nothing wrong with that. If they go often enough they will learn a lot about survival without really trying. but the main thing is to enjoy yourself. Thanks for the great video.
Love your load out. Obviously you're not concerned about weight, but if someone else wants to carry less, the soap and shampoo travel tabs from REI work great. So does Lush solid shampoo.
Great kit, you should have looked me up when you were in Manitou, i’m right up the road in Woodland...could show you some great spots to put that kit to the test..thanks for the upload..:)
Great kit. Looks like just over 40 lbs. At 60 I have to be a little lighter. Still got the good tools but lighter tarp and slightly lighter wool blanket her in Texas and less wood to process. Freezing is seen here in Central Texas 5 or 6 nights a year. My whiskey tin is “titanium” must be saving some there.
Great video! Amazing assortment of gear! I’d like to know where you got the heavy wool blanket. Keep up your great work; I learn a lot from every one that you post! Regards from South Carolina.
I like the set up , you forgot, something!!!! Especially for this time of year, and into early winter....( can ya hear the drum beat 😁) , what about your hunting gear, and ammo??? On a side note I have used the product PRID you recommended, and maan that stuff is awesome, it works fantastic, my Cat decided, that my are looked like a huge chew toy, and his teeth scraped gashes on my arm to include , a puncture wound , I washed throughly with soap and water, and applied Prid now three days later puncture is totally healed have one deep scratch almost totally healed, gotta tell you it was and is a great product !!!! Thanks for sharing
Just got my first canvas sleeping bag (0*f) and curious if i should treat it at all. I thought about adding a leather piece at bottom to avoid wear as well.
Where did you purchase the gum blanket and what are the dimensions. I made one with flex-seal but its super heavy. Keep up the good videos your becoming a titan in bushcraft
Have you ever used Down bootie socks for sleeping? I know the advantages of wool to down, but most of the time you aren't going to be wet sleeping, so down's inability to retain heat when wet isn't much of a concern.
Geez and I thought your last kit video make me want more gear, then you go and show more than a few items I want in this one! Any of that gear you wanna just give me? Lol... I still plan to get that folding old school lantern you showed in the summer kit video from a few months ago. Is there a wool blanket company you suggest since the gentleman who made yours can only be found at the trade shows? And who made your buck saw? And last question, for now lol, what is the purpose of the half wool blanket since your hand woven one takes care of you while you’re sleeping?
The folding lantern is a UCO candle lantern I sell them over at my site. They are bombproof! Tony Baker is on facebook hit him up! Bucksaw is from Adventure sworn
Coalcracker Bushcraft I have the UCO lantern, it is awesome. But I was referring to the Stonebridge replica lantern that you showed in your spring kit video, sorry I thought it was the summer one. But thanks for the info!! Sadly I’m the only one on the earth who doesn’t have Facebook lol... but again, thanks for taking the time to reply!
Coalcracker Bushcraft I’m most definitely stealing the half wool blanket idea, ESPECIALLY when I recently found a blanket pin like the one you showed in your spring kit video. I didn’t realize you have a school until now but next year I really hope to get up to Pennsylvania to get me some woodsman degrees! Now I need a gum blanket too! Lol
I notice you don't have a Tarp. You have an oilskin tarp in your Summer loadout, but not a reflective tarp like the Arcturus survival blanket in your winter loadout. Given that heat is so important in winter camping, isn't it foolish to not have a reflective tarp for cover in a winter loadout?
Coalcracker Bushcraft so would I have to make it myself with hemp or jute, or do you have a source to purchase it? And I know you did a video on making dumplings but as a guy who only knows how to cook meat, some very basic vids on how to bring flour, rice, and other staples out and make simple meals in the outdoors would be awesome! Or rather, how you yourself do it cuz most other outdoor cooking videos I see are either elaborate concoctions or bannock and steak on a rock, lol. Just a suggestion
Google it online. I don't recall where I got it. I'm trying to find a distributor so I can carry it for you guys. I have a cooking series planned just didn't bust it out yet.
Hi, I have 2 army 100% wool blankets would they equal in warmth to yours or be warm enough for a minus 10 winter without fire in your experience also what size are those gum blankets if you don't mind me asking please?
I have military blankets they don't compare to this blanket due to the loft this blanket has. If you were dressed correctly with 2 of the blankets I have shown here in this video you could get through a night in -10. It may not be super comfortable but it's doable. I disagree with rusty that it can't be done. I slept in 0 degree weather in Michigan with 2 blankets without a fire. Gum blanket is about the size of a twin blanket
Hey Dan, how come you call your kuksa a kuska, are you lysdexic or what? Apparently 'kuksa' is the Finnish word for the Sami guksi, but the Swedes call it a kåsa, according to the Wikipedia article.
Nice video thanks for sharing. Did you get your trade kettle from JAS Townsend? Also I've been looking for a hand woven wool blanket for my 18th century treks... who made yours? Thanks for your help!
this video is the opposite of ultralight and I'm here for it
Heavy bags all the way! I love feeling like a tank roving through the woods.... the look on someone's face when I turn around and they're like, "oh, you're not just a pack with legs...."
A well thought out kit. Better to have stuff you didn't need on a trip than to Ned stuff you didn't bring.
This has became one of the best channels on RUclips
I appreciate it! We just gotta get the word out now!
Your channel is going to really take off with how many good videos you are putting out!
Thanks Jim!! Fingers crossed. I'll be sure to keep them coming
I have to agree
Great winter kit! thanks for sharing!
You and the Pathfinder School are awesome! I like those Sami coffee bags, I googled a pattern and want to make some from waxed canvas,
Keep it up man!

Awesome! I love your gear cause its all natural! Thats the real shit😎👍 Greets from Germany... subbed
Great video! Amazing assortment of gear! I’d like to know where you got the heavy wool blanket.
Keep up your great work; I learn a lot from every one that you post!
Regards from South Carolina.
Just got the Timber Cruiser Jr. I already have the Camp Cook's Pack which is a monster, but the TC Jr is perfect for overnights or weekend outings.
Nice traditional kit. New sub here.
Nice set up.
Awesome Man!
Great job on the video. I have really been enjoying your channel. Had to subscribe:)
Great Video thanks for sharing

Just subbed. This channel looks great.

Nice brother !!!
thoughtful vid. thanks

Just got my first canvas sleeping bag (0*f) and curious if i should treat it at all. I thought about adding a leather piece at bottom to avoid wear as well.
Very nice. How about a link for that manly flask?
The flask is available on his website.
Where did you purchase the gum blanket and what are the dimensions. I made one with flex-seal but its super heavy. Keep up the good videos your becoming a titan in bushcraft
Gum blankets are available on his website.
and hear people think i overload my bag.....they just don't understand i say lol
O yeah this is a complete kit for sure.
Have you ever used Down bootie socks for sleeping?
I know the advantages of wool to down, but most of the time you
aren't going to be wet sleeping, so down's inability to retain heat when wet isn't much of a concern.
What wool blanket is that? And yes I know they are expensive.
I think he sells it on his site but it’s sold out. I like the Faribault cabin blanket.
Where can i get that awesome blanket?
They are handmade by a man named Tony Baker. He does trade shows around the Midwest.
Go to hobby lobby and buy some wool yarn and marry a woman who's mother can crochet. Second thought, spend the $600 on a hudson bay blanket.

Half wool blanket is for a pillow or to wear with my blanket pin on cold days unless it's really cold at night I can use that as another layer
Coalcracker Bushcraft I have the UCO lantern, it is awesome. But I was referring to the Stonebridge replica lantern that you showed in your spring kit video, sorry I thought it was the summer one. Cool!! Hope to see you soon!
Where did you get your woven wool blanket and what are the dimensions.
Would you please share a link to those gloves. I tried to Google them with no luck.
Nice retro kit!
What was that cordage at 6:20 called? I couldn't quite hear it.
Tarred Marlins. I did a video awhile back on it. Great stuff
Ok, why the 1/2 wool blanket?
I notice you don't have a Tarp.
You have an oilskin tarp in your Summer loadout, but not a reflective tarp like the Arcturus survival blanket in your winter loadout.
Given that heat is so important in winter camping, isn't it foolish to not have a reflective tarp for cover in a winter loadout?
Where can I get the bed roll and axe
Wow! Very nice winter setup! Now I gotta find a gum blanket! Where did u get its from?
Google it. Civil war reenactment sites sell them
How far do you walk in a day with that pack?
What’s the difference between tarred marline and tarred bank line?
Marline is made of natural material whereas bankline is synthetic
Coalcracker Bushcraft so would I have to make it myself with hemp or jute, or do you have a source to purchase it? Coalcracker Bushcraft awesome I look forward to your vids!
Hi, I have 2 army 100% wool blankets would they equal in warmth to yours or be warm enough for a minus 10 winter without fire in your experience also what size are those gum blankets if you don't mind me asking please?
There is no wool blanket that would be comfy in -10 w/out a fire. You would chatter your teeth away by morning.
I have military blankets they don't compare to this blanket due to the loft this blanket has. Gum blanket is about the size of a twin blanket
A single blanket is what I meant would be miserable.
O yeah. That wouldn't be a fun night!!
Coalcracker Bushcraft thx for info, I'll try at freezing first and see how I get on
Good places to find 100% wool blankets? Thanks in advance
I got 1 from a local military surplus company. New not used
Hey Dan, how come you call your kuksa a kuska, are you lysdexic or what? Apparently 'kuksa' is the Finnish word for the Sami guksi, but the Swedes call it a kåsa, according to the Wikipedia article.
besides etsy or making it myself what is a good resource for finding old fashioned canvas bags and equipment?
Vintage? You need to check eBay and Etsy. New production I like frost river. The best. I sell it on my website
Nice video thanks for sharing. Did you get your trade kettle from JAS Townsend? Also I've been looking for a hand woven wool blanket for my 18th century treks... who made yours? Thanks for your help!
Yep that's a Jas Townsend kettle. Very well made.
That wool blanket was hand loomed by a man named Tony baker
Thank you
I like all of your packs but this one is kinda big for me
Yes this is a huge bag
Great video what pot is that
Copper kettle from jas townsend
Now THAT is a 'traditional' bushcraft kit. How heavy is it ? Awesome load out nonetheless.
Also, kuksa is pronounced cook-sah, not cous-kah (kuska) ;D
Heavy! Hahaha nearly 45lbs.
Very good, Thank you very much
