A Lazer range finder is not weird, it tells you how far away an enemy is and in the real world, ATGMs have a maximum and sometimes a minimum range.

The LOSAT’s missiles are not shaped charged, they are kinetic. They are basically 162mm hypersonic guided darts. This also means you lose significant pen when trying to point blank targets
yes and no as it accelerates a such a massive rate and it optimal pen is insane anyway so even it it was reduced to a 10% it could still go though the sides of anything ingame
the easy way to defeat Losat is high and low ground against it

If you're closer than 100m maybe for a tank. But during testing, at optional range, the LOSAT went straight through a t72m1 with it's ERA. As in through the front and out the back. If you watch testing footage, there is no delay with boosters activating. There also isn't a drop. There's are mistakes that gaijin had written on the devblog but already corrected with the ingame model.

@@GBR9794If players wouldnt already smash planes while pressing spacebar in the last second, this would make sense and justify their decision, but they even made sure that direct hit to the vehicle can kill it and instead of promoting to save the pilot of a "killed" plane they justify it's ability to shoot ordnance and guns while smashing it to the ground in the melting cockpit.
@@GBR9794 they dont need to add kamikaze stuff, german mains already have this skill locked down. Try going more than one game without a german main cosplaying a kamikaze pilot.

I honestly think the vehicles are just funny. Sure the Ki-48-II could do higher than 2.3 but at the same time it's whole shtick is similar to a Fritz X, which is on a Heinkel He-111 sitting at... 2.7 I think?
Nowhere close, because the Fritz is just a guided bomb on a very slow bomber, the KI-48s missile is a well, missile on a way better platform
@@AveragePootis I'm not sure if the ki48 is a good platform, by the looks of it. Looks like it's got pretty terrible climb rate, which would be a problem when trying to launch missiles

I mean I did that (after like 1000attempts) although admittedly it was in test flights so I don't know how much it would count. Its quite hard though.
With the addition of the Ki-48 with that guided missile I hope the Fw-200 will get its Hs-293 as well.
6:27 I really hope the Japanese plane is like to open the door for more WW2 cruise missile like some German planes had. I know the PB4Y even had like a fire & forget anti-shipping glide bomb, the Bat, which I'd really like.
If they add those they might as well add the Motobomba FFF or the radio guided torpedoes for the P.108s for the Italians too

I know the US had a few guided bomb projects that were close or saw the light of war; the radar guided Bat being one.

My main source for now is a book by Daniele Lembo called "Le Armi Segrete della Regia"
The guided torpedo or _Idrobomba A/170_ as I believe it was designated, was designed by Colonel Freri (one of the designers of the much more successful Motobomba F.F.F) and by engineer Pietro Crocco of the Genio Navale (Naval Engineering Division)
Apparently this weapon idea was already tested in the Bracciano lake in 1932 and presented officially to Mussolini by correspondence on the 16th of April 1940, the way it worked was by having a pretty standard looking air-launched torpedo like the W/F.200/450 4.25 (if I'm not getting the name wrong) with a guidance system on it and a buoy thethered to the ordenace, this buoy housed the radio receiver from which the Torpedo received the guidance input from the operator like with the Fritz-X, to facilitate the use of the Torpedo the buoy also deployed a lingering, fluorescent chemical trail on the water so the operator could follow and guide the weapon to the target more easily
These were tested by S.M 79s and S.M 82s, but they were ultimately meant to also equip the P.108 and P.108 Artigliere, they could also be deployed at high altitude (3+km) by a parachute that would detach at about 130/100 metres of altitude from the water to deploy the torpedo, just like the Motobomba FFF
The book mentions a lof of interesting Italian weapons like the Idrobomba Slittante or the Aerosiluro Zapelloni and many others, and mentions of projects lost to time
I don't know why you didn't mention that the Losat uses kinetic penetrators in the missiles. It's a pretty big thing to gloss over, since most things it will face mostly just have protection against chemical munitions and not kinetic at br 10.3 .
We'll see how hard they are to grind, they look fun

Now I have to spend double if not triple that amount of time and still not be guaranteed the reward.
@@lukav3509 Honestly I didnt mind the star event. it wasnt hard to spend a couple of hours getting 20k points then getting the rest the second day.
LOSAT is the most interesting due to its concept - ATGM that uses kinetic energy rod penetrators. Looking at ingame stat card, it won't have penetration ie velocity drop off until after a kilometer. That can be either very broken or very pathetic at mid ranges. It'll be absolutely pathetic at extreme close ranges due to turret and missile arrangement and the fact that missile didn't accelerate fully yet.
Broken because it's defacto vehicle sized "bolter" ie gyrojet ie gun with kilometer long barrel if you will. Yes, it's a missile. But it's a missile with extremely high burn engine. It can be most powerfull APFSDS in the game in fact.
Pathetic at long range? Because you can't turn off the guidance. In normal canon you can just curve the shell with gravity or fire and scoot. With LOSAT, even with its insane velocity, you're a sitting duck.
Sum up the three points above and you get a very niche vehicle. But very interesting from technical PoV.
Imagine if LOSAT documentation was dusted off nowadays and someone tried to make ADATS(the reason in the name) competitor by combining LOSAT and Starstreak tech de facto creating massive Starstreak II.
if by bolter you mean a wh40k one, that would not be quite right as bolt rounds are basically APHE or SAP warheads. they detonate after penetrating their target.
the missiles of the LOSAT are more like a missile version of british AP rockets.
massive starstreak would probably have too much mass to be agile enough to hit planes. they'd probably also need comically large propulsion systems to keep their speed at the distances you need for AA purposes, further increasing their mass and hindering their agility.

The LOSAT is actually underperforming by quite a bit. M829A3 has a "listed" pen of 800mm. The MGM-166 has a wider, longer, heavier projectile going 50m/s faster than M829A3. Ballpark math would put it around 900mm of pen.
The tests show it went straight through a T-72 and kept going out the engine bay..so
M829A3 focuses the impact energy on a much smaller area though

@@purplepotato69 Even with 775 mm of pen, it will go through anything at 10.3. Most vehicles at 10.3 don't have protection against kinetic ammo above 500 mm.
The game uses russian standards for pens, Nato needs 50% of the projectiles to reach the pen they claim to have while Soviet/russian standard is 80%, it's why a lot of rounds have lower pen in game.
Im Definetley going to grind the KOSAT ive already missed multiple event veichles so im going to dedicate my time to it.
Super stoked for the new Ki-48, definitely think the trick of it will be similar to the sk-60b where you gain altitude then kill your engines and go as slow as possible from a glide and just lob these from over 8km away. The missile speed is definitely a poor aspect of it, so long range launches will probably be needed so you don't get within AA range
Range finder is a must for guided missile vehicles to know the range and if target is within the max missile range. Of course in WT that's always the case since maps are unrealistically tiny.
I would love to have the losat for the memes and the ki49, but i cant stand the crafting events, i've been playing since 2013, and i still hate the crafting events more than anything else gaijin has done, if it were a score based or task based event i would do it but seeing as its a crafting event i have 0 motivation to even try, these events just bring out the worst in the community and make games way too sweaty and try-hard to have fun anymore. The f100f should also be a tech tree vehicle for the us aswell as more f100 variants, but alas gaijin seems to have a hatred of the us

Idk why they don’t just give us decompression and then add all those trouble vehicles in the game, cause then they can be balanced more fairly
@bornonthebattlefront4883 they also hate top tier sweden, and all of italy, R.I.P. to my beloved saggitario(should be 8.7), and the ariete should have been 9.0 tech tree, and had the rocket version as the premium.
One exception to them hating us is the fact the a10's are exceptionally low, the a7 should not be a higher br than the a10 given that the a10 gets 9l's

sorry that the US already has the biggest aircraft tree in the entire game and doesn't get like 5 new ones every patch. or that not every single event plane is american. other countries are in wayyyy bigger need of more variety than the US getting half a dozen versions of every of their aircraft that have minimal differences in the game. besides, the plane for the last crafting event was already one for the US tree.

nope, however as a side note it really shouldnt need more then 800mm anyway as assuming gajiin does their job ERA will be basically useless against these things unless their specifically designed to also handle kenetic ammunition as the LOSAT doesnt have an explosive at all instead working kinda like a guided APFSDS and since most available AP rounds like it at the highest tiers deal around 600+mm of pen 800 will be more then plenty to destory just about anything it hits

I'm really excited for the Ki-48-II. As an IJN main, I find it hard to use planes in naval battles, but something like this really gives me the opportunity to hit a ship from outside of AA range. Reliably? No, but actually able to? Possibly
Good luck with that seeing how its only 143kg bomb and good luck trying to see when you are 6 to 8km away from a target but i commend you for thinking big though and without a doubt I'm going to try it for sure😁
You can reliably sit 3-6km from any 3.3 destroyer short of maybe the germans...
This opens the idea of adding the Okha to the G4M. But that could be done in a way where it’s like a scout drone. You launch and guide it like a normal aircraft but obviously with 1) much, much less fuel and range and 2) you intentionally crash it instead of let it loiter

In regards to lack of telescopic sight, I think that some of bigger bombers should have binoculars option.Especially naval ones.

I think the best use is going to be in naval. That warhead is enough to seriously mess up destroyers. Also the best way to guide it may be to launch it, turn around, hop in gunner view, and guide it from a safe distance from AA.
By the way you didn't comment on the fact that the LOSAT is a kinetic, rather than HEAT warhead. So it gains pen and velocity until the rocket booster cuts out. It means that at like ~4km you can pen the front plate of almost anything up to and including T-80Us.
except there isnt really any map where you can pull off 4km shots. 2km is already super rare. plus you would probably have trouble guiding the missile in with that zoom level.

well, I wish I could grind the vehicles, the japanese early ATGM surely looks cool, but unfortunately I have a life outside the game and Gaijin doesn't know that
getting the lowtier reward even in the crafting events is rather easy. you won't need to grind that long, a couple hours should probably be enough. the hightier rewards are way wayyyy worse.
The LOSAT doesn't have neutral steering- if you turn and hold W, one track will be stopped and you will continue turning. That said, it has hands down THE best clutch steering system I've seen as it basically mimics neutral steering, but if you start a turn for 20 degrees or so, and reverse it and keep reversing the turn back and forth, you'll notice you will start to wiggle backwards!

Hey I found a bug where in the russian TT. The card for the Yak-3/9U doesnt shows the Yak-3/3P not the Yak-9U
i hope they add the Ohka now that they have a bomber that can carry it! hopefully it will work same as a scout plane from ships that activates when you press U and all you have to do is guide it to a base or enemy ship. its gonna be so crazy in Naval!

I was gonna sit this one out but maybe the guided missile at that low a BR might be fun in naval. Otherwise? Nah. The LOSAT is the sort of thing that makes me happy I decided to keep to under 8.x most of the time. I reckon it will either spank or be pulverised, depending on map and BR. One of those. The missiles are a lot of fun to use in the test, I can see this thing being an MLRS thing at a higher BR. Take it out once or twice and never play it again unless you are having fun in a squad.
That ship seems awful but maybe it will be better when it’s spaded. And naval doesn’t seem to have had the RP buff other modes have, at least not to the same level - naval is one of the worst for grinding, in my experience. And that’s not a ‘skill issue’. I’m happy to announce I’m pretty mid at Air and Ground RB, but, for some reason, I rule in naval. No idea why I’m good at that mode, but I regularly get top whereas it’s not unusual for me to be bottom in ground RB. I try to not lose my vehicle and that’s a good approach in naval but means I don’t get points in other modes. Anyway. The ship feels like rubbish.
They should’ve add the I GO and Hs.293 as tech tree.

Yeah the LOSAT's Missile is so fast because its not a HEAT missile, it's a High-velocity missile with a Steel-Penetrator and its a weird but really cool idea
I hate that gaijin made all of the M8 AGS based vehicles event rewards, the US could do with a high tier tech tree light tank but gaijin needs to make money out of people who love these vehicles, i really want the the LOSAT but because I don’t play war thunder for a living I’ve resigned myself to never being able to own it

Is it possible to have the bomb camera trail the guided bomb? If so, that thing will be nasty. I havent played WT is a long time so idk how guided missles rrally work besides arrow key controls.

It's very odd how slow the ki-148 missile is.
You would think if you were already moving at 400km/h, that the missile would drop at that speed and then accelerate past that given it's got a rocket in it.
I'm also very surprised that there is no type of special sight for this thing to use, like how the fritz-x gets a special bomb sight.
... That's because it is missing a "crew" member...

I find it weird there is no way to "aim" it properly (not blocking sight to the bomb) without diving directly at the target.
They have to model in some type of "weapon sight" system into the plane that's missing.

with the low tier cruise missile being that slow it could be shot down by machine guns

If you're new and haven't reached Tier 3 aircraft of any nation, then you can't partake in the event. Same goes for the ground vehicle Losat. You can still buy the vehicle from the market later when it comes down in price when the market is saturated.
why has the us missile td 12 tubes launchers but only 10 are loaded?

LOSAT seems very overpowered, although I found it's armament redundant: why add 12 rocket, when it already have the mighty.50 call on top? 🤔
I don't think it'll be overpowered, just fill it's niche of sniping extremely well. Close range etc is going to be an absolute pain as it has no depression for the launcher and you have to be stationary to use it. Plus it can't penetrate much at close range as the rocket has to propel it for a while before it reaches optimum velocity.
