I agree that Gulp is definitely harder in this version. His chase attack seems harder to dodge, usually just running would do the trick but now you almost have to let him jump and then run. His aiming is also seemingly improved, again, whilst running his shots seem way better at aiming so the boss is much easier if you just stand still and slowly dodge them.
Yeah I thought I was the only one who was having trouble but I'm glad to hear that's not the case. I couldn't even get the trophy without permanent super flame.
I found running straight at him is the only guaranteed way to avoid him landing on you due to him over shooting whereas if you run away, you'll most likely get slammed.
my trick was to manipulate his laser aim go one direction then turn another, the aim predicts ur speed and direction. when he shoots four space urself and zigzag towards him, was satisfying af tho to perfect it
It was way more difficult then the original, but I like it...like he's supposed to be difficult since he's the second boss in a 3 boss game and they totally nailed the idea that he's stronger than Crush
I fully agree. I run into way too many NPCs who think that cherishing a game or movie from your childhood that you enjoyed somehow makes you a creep. It’s like people aren’t allowed to be happy anymore when they get older. Way too much judgement being passed over insignificant things.
Nobody McNobody It’s a term used to describe someone who doesn’t put any thought into their opinions and just falls in line with what society dictates. I don't understand the censoring. They censored the gun use in the Twilight Harbor to just paint ball guns and to slingshots in Scorch, but in Spyro 3, the dinosaurs wielded revolvers with actual bullets. What gives?
Its even weirder considering if their concern was "influence on kids", you can objectively get easier access to a revolver over a mini-gun or whatever Blunderbuss looking rifles they had.
Nah, it's more like... Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh? Trouble with the trolley, eh?
I must say it's more than just a standard modern platformers look up to. I'm a student of game design/software development and Spyro is a shared love between all the up and coming people on my course and the standard we all hold ourselves to for any game we make. It's truly a beautiful thing that drives and inspires even to this day.
I got the original trilogy box set when I was 6 years old, and stayed obsessed with Spyro for years afterwards. Gotta say, Toys For Bob did a fantastic job. It really feels like I'm reliving childhood. They walked a fine line of new and old so perfectly.
Did anyone else have trouble getting used to the characters now having teeth? I found myself getting creeped out every single time a new npc appeared in Spyro 2 because they had so many teeth, i think the lack of it is what made all of them so goofy and adorable in the originals LMAO the Shrek looking ones from Idol Springs and Colossus to me were some of the worst. Also Greta and Handel's new design feels very weird to me, I always thought they would look like the powerpuff girls lol Also, my most favorite part of the whole reignited trilogy is how now every single dragon in spyro 1 has an exclusive new design that match their homeworld. I didn't care much about them in the original because most of them just looked the same with slightly different tweaks. In reignited i found myself super excited to see what they would look like and I could even imagine what their life would be like in their homes based on their looks, it's amazing and I love it
THANK YOU! I was thinking the same thing about Hunter. Way more likeable and loveable in the original. Plus, the hover not working occasionally irks me and I've had a few glitches where in the original series I had none. But yeah, it's still really good and I'm enjoying my time with it. Great vid!
That hover change upset me a lot more than it should have. I have gone though Spyro 2 and am mid way through Spyro 3 and still cant get that timing down. I end up cancelling the glide more often than not. Also Sparxs sucks at collecting gems.
I love the reignited trilogy but I had so many nitpicks because I am such a huge fan of the originals, particularly Ripto's Rage. The Gulp fight is punishing at times, the change in his attack patterns and how they operate really threw me off. I hate the interpretation of Hunter. The original voice was that of the "scared pussycat" but was juxtaposed by his actions. While the new voice comes off as being too cool. I love that the original voice actor for Ripto came back for Ripto, he always had one of my favorite villain voices from my childhood but I found the delivery of some of his lines to just be... off. I felt the overall the delivery in the original game was just a bit better.
I didnt like a lot of the redesigns for characters purely because they lost some of the charm that came with the limitations of the time. I can appreciate the detail added and direction they took, but it's just not what it used to be
Old comment I know. However I dont think theres was any way of coming out of this particular topic objevtively better than the originals. If they changed nothing in the designs but just gave everything depth and resolution in the new models, people might have called it lazy. But there was no way any redesigns would habe been able to overcome the nostalga factor either. Im mostly happy with what we got.
Yeah, the character redesigns are kind of a gripe-fest. Like in some of the Gnork levels in the first game, their weapons were replaced with Splatoon weapons. *SPYRO IS NOT AN INKLING*
I’ve been playing Spyro since it’s inception. Ripto’s Rage is by far my favorite. I feel like the hover control is slightly glitchy because it works sometimes and other times you fall down a cliff. I also feel like Sparx’s gem grab radius is severely reduced from the original games. And I do agree that Gulp is harder as well. His bomb attacks lead you more making them impossible to dodge if you’re just running in a circle whereas in the original, running in a circle is almost always a viable tactic
The gulp boss, i remember it being a major pain in the ass in the original game. So much so, that it forced me to stop playing spyro for a week as a kid. And as a kid, that was an eternity. Hahah. But so far i am blown away by the reignited trilogy and ive only just completed artesian. This remake has nearly brought my to tears because the original was my childhood. It means a lot to me personally that toys for bob has done this. Thank you for the great video brother!
After replaying all the games, I never realized how dark it was. Especially Ripto's Rage. The amount of death happening in the opening/outro scenes of levels is amazing. Guy get's crushed by meteor, guy get's pushed into lava, guy plummets to his death, guy gets crushed by a T-rex, etc. for almost every level someone dies at the beginning and end.
I figured out how to cheese gulp. When he starts shooting just run in a figure 8 type. Motion. It screws up his AI and from there it's hecka easy to cheese.
Ok first of all this was a great video and your voice is really comfortable to listen to. I agree I had trouble too fighting gulp, it took me way longer than in the original game. The camera sometimes annoy me (maybe because im used to how the camera in the original works)
My and my brother used to play a shed load of Spyro and Crash when we were kids. He passed away 2 years ago this May, so I bought the Spyro and Crash trilogies on Steam sale , watching this as Spyro installs. Probably gonna make me cry but I'm looking forward to it bringing up old memories. RIP Trav , miss ya bro ❤
You absolutely NAILED this review, I pretty much agree with you on every single point you made although I would add that the newer controls or whatever it is made the super charge challenge in tree tops from Spyro 1 WAY harder, I ended up dying over 20 times and got at least 3 game over screens just from trying to complete that one section as it seemed that unless you pushed the jump button at the exact right millisecond you would end up falling to your death, that was the only major criticism I could make but I think it's fixable. I also agree with you about hunter, I didn't like his new personality at all and I don't really know how it's supposed to appeal to a younger audience but then again I'm also 23 years old and don't know what kids today are like. Also THANK YOU for pointing out how difficult Gulp was this time around, first time I fought him I lost within like 5 minutes and I thought it must be me doing something wrong but I'm finding out that a lot of people are having trouble with him, maybe it's the camera or the new controls? Either way I beat him eventually but I had to use the permanent super flame powerup in order to get the trophy/skill point from that fight. One other thing, did anyone feel like the camera this time around just wasn't always cooperating? Maybe I'm too used to classic spyro but I felt like the camera this time around was giving me a lot of extra trouble.
Let TFB know this stuff on Twitter, they seem very open to hearing fan feedback and might be able to patch this stuff quickly before Activision pushes them onto another project.
I've only played the very first Spyro game as a kid. But that was enough to like that little fella and the concept of the games. I completed the first reignited game yesterday now doing the second. One thing the first game will beat the other 2 will be the eye candy experience of the redesigned dragons They're AWESOME!!!
Gulp was a difficulty spike that woke me up from a pleasant spyro haze for a while, for better or for worse. Made it feel that much better to get the superbreath reward and cheese the fight. I agree with most of your opinions, the games are better than I could have ever dreamed, and do wish to add my own addition minor complaints. Specifically, why cant we see the treasure pour out of spyro on his flight during the loading screens? And while the baby dragons are cute, I was frustrated to see repeat animations so early on, especially after all of the life poured into the first games dragons. Toys for Bob missed an opportunity to spice them up, but all of the extra love poured into 1 does help even it out.
TFB heavily polished the first game, and 2/3 were largely outsourced (you can see this in the credits for 2 and 3). That's why the sequels recycle a lot of assets, and seem to be missing unique assets (the bellows level doesn't have a proper "bellows" asset like the original and uses generic assets instead, even though everyone still calls them bellows).
Personally I don't think they had a choice. Activision gave them one extra-month to polish 3 detailed classic games, when they probably needed 3 or 4 months instead. It's kind of a miracle that the collection is as polished as it is. I was honestly a bit scared 2 and 3 would be riddled with glitches and crashes but it basically just amounted to the sequels having one less layer of polish than the first game, which is acceptable.
As a veteran of Spyro, Gulp seemed a lot harder to fight now than he did back on the original. Especially the trophy for not taking any damage at all. The changes in Scorch with the soldiers and Bob's name changed was done for Political reasons ("Guns" and the word "Bomb". Not trying to go too far but just remember that the original was before the events of 9/11.
I am not particularly happy that they have slightly raised the landing points for glides so they need an absolutely perfect glide in spyro 1 to make them,. I also would have liked maybe another second in night flight because I am seeing people having 0.5 seconds left on their clock at the most after completing it.
I figured out why Gulp was so much harder, and it's because of how the camera is more zoomed in for the Reignited Trilogy vs the originals. That's one of the few things they did that I didn't like.
Beautiful review; covers the differences between the originals and reboots perfectly! ❤️ as a hardcore original fan, completely agree with how wonderfully they’ve reimagined the games. Another great video Max 😀🤘
I appreciate a review from a fan, since all the other reviews I watched were only saying how amazing Spyro Reignited is. As a Spyro fan for 20 years I wanted to hear some hard facts from other veteran fans - and do they have a problem with the same things as I have? First of all, all the small details and dislikes in aesthetics wise: I totally get why you didn't like Hunter. There were so many characters I didn't enjoy anymore because of their design: Crush, Gulp, Sheila, Hunter, Elora and don't forget those goats in Colossus (they were so cute and fatty!). Even Moneybags, who has gone to gym apparently or something in Reignited version. I just missed the proportions of the characters from original games. I wanted the characters to be just the same but in HD and that's probably why I hated Gulp and Crush the most. They were too Skylander aesthetics for my taste. This is a minor issue, but where are my beloved sound effects?! I noticed it the best while playing Spyro 2 & Zephyr. The elephant creatures didn't make any sound even though I was torching their butts. And I'm missing some small yet delightful minor details. In Spyro 2: Shady Oasis, the thieves did originally eat some apples from the trees if you dropped a few - and they even made the cutest mm-mm sound while doing so. Now you might think that this is the dumbest thing ever to miss, but these small secrets made the game so entertaining when I was a child and I was really looking forward to re-living these. Some actual problems to me were definately the Gulp boss fight. It was always so easy to me and now I had to actually try. Gulp was a way better shooter this time and he even ate the health chickens to get more health. On the other hand, some orb missions were either way too easy or a bit harder now. The one where you have to stop the dinosaurs from eating all the cavemen - too easy compared to the original. Or helping the alchemist and Hunter to take down the Earthshapers? I did them all in my first try. But nothing compares to the infamous trouble with the trolley eh? Since the reworked controls, the trolley missions felt much harder for me and the same goes for the ice hockey missions. Spyro moves a bit slower in these, so as you said, I had to let go of my muscle memory and learn to play again. And it was really annoying. That trolley mission was my fav as kid but now I don't think I want to give it any more time and thought than I have to. Whoa what a wall of text! Thanks for the review. I'm happy to tell you that I'm going to re-illustrate some of the Spyro characters, just to see what my fellow Spyro fans will say about my versions compared to the Reignited ones. Happy playing to all Spyro fans and I look forward seeing your thoughts about Spyro! 😎
Actually, the 1 on 1 round of hockey felt easier to me, because the opponent's offense is pathetic. I ended up winning this on my first try with the skill point for a perfect score.
@Púca yes I did! There are so many small things but you do realize that something is wrong when they're missing.. I kept whining how the orbs were jumping up and down in the wrong way and my bf started to laugh that this critisism is going too far 😅
@@Ori_Kohav yes my friend said the same thing, that the slower movements while skating and riding that trolley were helping her a lot since there were more time to react - we're all different players apparently 😀
@@eydron5665 I didn't feel any difference in difficulty in the trolley challenge, but I found it funny that suddenly the 1 on 1 hockey felt easier than the vs goalie round. Not complaining, though :)
@ThatOneRaven TfB have said this was a creative decision and not censorship but honestly given that school shootings are such a common thing these days and weren't back in 1998 I'm not that surprised that these things were changed. You gotta remember that things like Columbine, 9/11, Sandy Hook, the Boston Bombing, and other things have happened since the original games were released so it's harder for people to just accept there being that sort of content in a kids game, also I'm fairly sure that had they included guns even for just those small sections the ESRB would have rated the game T instead of E10 and made it harder for younger kids to get the game.
@ThatOneRaven No believe me I totally can see the hypocrisy within it, I'm just speaking about how I have perceived our current society in general, back in the 90's having a gun or something in a kids game/show/movie/whatever was totally acceptable but nowadays with all the controversy surrounding them and recent events I think it's just best for the sake of the developers to play it safe. Whether we agree with the decision or not let's be honest, had this game included guns in it there definitely would have been a group of parents/people protesting or calling out the game and then they've got a controversy on their hands. I think you and I are basically in agreement here overall.
The issues you listed for Bianca and Hunter don't bother me at all, but I agree that not adding cutscenes to Spyro 3 is a missed opportunity. and yes, the Gulp fight in Reignited is much harder than in the original. Not overwhelming, but still hard.
I think TFB believed adding new completely original scripted cutscenes might rub fans the wrong way. This is very much an attempt to give retro Spyro players the remake they deserve, with only minimal changes.
@@Antiformed Makes sense. Though imo it's worth a shot, and there were a lot of other OG fans who boycotted this game for stupid reasons that are just whines about the game not being entirely like the originals.
Beyond a few nitpicks like the changed monk chanting voice in the Tibetan style level in Spyro 2 (forgotten it's name), I agree, my main beef (albeit an understandable one) has been the load times compared to the original. I guess it's a sacrifice for top quality graphics.
I bought the PS4 for the Crash trilogy remake. Now I'm all in for Spyro! I played those original Spyro games on the ps1, rented from Blockbuster no less.
I was told by a Sanzaru dev that Spyro 3 didn't have any cutscenes until around August. You could probably see why they didn't have time to do Intros/Outtros.
There were no cutscenes in the original 2000 game so it's okay. It may've rubbed fans the wrong way if they created new cutscenes that weren't part of the original game.
I remember Gulp being near impossible as a kid. It kept me from beating the game for a long time. As I got older and did more playthroughs he was hard but only 1-3 tries hard. This week playing the new game I probably died 50+ times to Gulp. He seems to literally hoan into where you're going to be. I could be running away and he'd somehow jump on me. I'd be bolting around him and his green balls would run right to where I was going. Very challenging. Luckily on the second playthrough I had perm. Super flame lol
Bianca is fine in the Reignited Trilogy. Hell, she might even be better. You have to understand that Bianca is a naive girl who is easy to manipulate, and thats why the sorceres is using her. And I think her questionable jobs for the sorceres does a lot for her in this new version. You really get the feeling that she thinks shes getting mentored, but at the same time arent really sure shes doing the right thing.
Actually, Bianca joined because she needed a mentor to help her out on her magic skills not because she wasn’t a nice character, that’s a gross misinterpretation.
Bianca was confident in what she was doing in the originals, she was bringing magic back to her world, saving it! She was bratty and determined. Now every animation in her cutscenes filled with wacky clumssines and uncertainty, which can be fitting only in thouse scenes where she brings food to hunter or begs spyro to go home and leave baby drragons for her to care.
To answer to the Gulp question - I found it appropriate. It only took me like 3 tries to finish him off. But it's really difficult if you're aiming for the skill point
I did that trick jumping onto the crystal and then onto the platform with the flying power up on the first level in Spyro 2 in the remastered version. Thought it is a decent bit harder to pull off, and somewhat different to how you would do it in the original, but it is absolutely still possible.
man I feel you on the control muscle memory part. I fell down so much, because I usually instinctively hover to nail jumps. I also notived in flight stages and while swimming Spyro goes in this wierd drifting motrion when you turn. Other than that this remaster is the best thing a Spyro Fan can wish for. Also they didn't butcher the themes of Ripto's Rage homeworlds.
3:26 you can still 100% that level on the first visit, all it takes is good and quick timing with the flight powerup, you could do it in the original too.
I completed the trilogy (That's got everything) and loved it, but I did have a few issues: 1. The frame rate is all over the place, I know it's 30fps, but I wish they could keep it solid 30. 2. I had some odd control issues with hunters skating levels, particularly the skating section in the bonus end world. Sometimes Spyro will just spin to the left after tricks for no reason and multiple times I have been able to skate along a wall. 3. The grass hides gems.
I regret not playing any Spyro games up to this point during my ps1 days I was more into lengthy Rpg's mostly from Square Soft at the time. I did play a lot of platforms during my nes, snes days but saying that I did buy this trilogy mostly being a fan old-school platforms and I only been playing the original Spyro so far and I love it. I did buy the original spyro and crash games few years back I did play them at the time but only the 1st levels. But glad I'm finally enjoying this fantastic trilogy.
Yeah Gulp was harder because i think they reworked his projectile AI. They used to just track where you were going so you just needed to run in circles or charge around him while weaving. What i could gather was it randomizes the when the projectile stops tracking you if it stops tracking late it will land in front of you if it stops early is will land behind you and they vary to what degree they do this. This is managable when there is only 2 at a time but when he fires 4 in a row each with their own tracking properties you feel kind of help less.
Oh. My. God. I beat Gulp today and it took me like 10-12 tries no joke. I didn’t play the original games unfortunately but I just assumed it was just as hard when it first came out. Glad I’m not the only one who had trouble
I'm a huge fan of Spyro as well, and loved the Reignited Trilogy. Overall, the Gulp fight seemed the same to me. Ripto's fight seemed tougher during the second part when I was trying to get the skill point, but other than that everything seemed about the same. One small thing I didn't like was that it seemed like the camera was closer to Spyro in the Reignited Trilogy than the original which made it harder to see certain enemies, especially in the water. But like you said, it wasn't game breaking and I thought they did an excellent job with it. I would really love to see a new Spyro game made similar to this style.
I never got to play these games as a child, but I always wanted to. And i never got around to playing them, even as an adult. I was hoping Spyro would get the same treatment as Crash with the N-sane trilogy, and I'm so happy he did.
Yea. I just fought Gulp earlier today, and he was a huge pain! I don't know how I'm going to get that skill point-- and Conservationist 2 trophy-- for not getting hit by him. Those energy orbs he shoots are completely unpredictable.
I totally agree with you on the gulp fight. It's WAY harder in the remakes. The plasma orbs he shoots move a lot faster, and they home in on Spyro a lot better. It also seems like gulp runs faster.
They brought back the dodge roll from the first Spyro game, but i think they should have increased the range a bit, maybe that way it would be a little more useful, especially during boss fights.
This is the best remake made so far. It kept what had to be kept and improved everything that needed improving, with minor exceptions. I hope more old games get remakes with this level of fidelity. Gulp is a lot harder now.
I hate that they censored all the guns, but they probably did it to avoid controversy about putting guns in a kid’s game in this modern age (or they did it for their own political reasons, but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt). And Gulp was a lot harder for me too, but I actually really enjoyed the challenge. Dare I say it? It felt like a dark souls boss
In Crash N Sane Trilogy the loading times were patched some time later, don't worry. And that about muscular memory sounds like I'll have to go through that too, like Crash ;-;
I never had a Playstation, so I was never able to play Spyro. But man, I wish I had a PS4 to play this remake. It looks so much fun (I forgot whether it's on XBOX or not, but I don't have one of those either)
The first time I fought Gulp in Reignited Trilogy I hated how much quicker he was to avoid but I’ve been practicing a bit against him lately and recently was able to finally beat him no damage without the permanent super flame power up
I said the same thing about hunter to my girlfriend who didn’t understand 😂😂 but also yes I agree that the Gulp battle is much harder, I think that’s why there’s not a skill point for perfecting it
Also you didn't mention all the redesigns for the dragons in the first games. I loved every single redesigns for every dragon especially the leader. Also I want a winter Spyro figure like TODAY?!!!!
Gulp was a lot harder, which wouldn't be an issue for me BUT every single boss in Year of The Dragon has been nerfed. Especially Spike, and Bluto the Rhynoc. One nitpick I had was the dinosaurs in Dino Mines. Very minor but I think Toys for Bob completely missed the joke, making T-Rexes with tiny arms gun slinging cowboys, but they gave them full length arms in the Reignited Trilogy.
I just finished the gulp mission last night... holy shit that was hard, there was literally no pattern to the laser bomb strikes and they always seemed to land right where i was going before i knew i was going there... felt like i was fighting psycho mantis.😂

> 4 to 40 attempts, but the difficulty feels fair Is this Dark Souls? > characters dumbed down and 2D'ed to be kid-friendly I'm unable to understand why people think kids need brainless content, yet it fully explains why kids can't think strongly enough, their intellect isn't being challenged because devs think "intellectual challenge" might mean "intellectual insult". Intellectual insult is to serve an easy challenge instead of a hard challenge. Is it even a challenge if it's easy? And by that I mean the difference between what we have and don't have in Skyrim. Putting the keycode for the doors in the keycard itself is a true intellectual insult - even if the "purpose" in-lore was for the dragon claw keys to be freely used by those already in their possession. The way I'd do it is take advantage of the 6 or more murals in the chambers where you find the round doors. Yeah, those horrible murals that tell so little lore that no loremaster pays them any attention. I'd crank up the resolution on them and create graphic puzzles, where you have to read the story told to infer which combination of animals will open the door. And again, it would not be something you'd need to be in any way familiar with the lore or any specific language to understand (as you can't translate pictures, blyat). Just look at the wall art, think about them for a minute or two and go open that door. Better yet if the combinations are randomly changed between save files and you HAVE to read them instead of following the same walkthrough as everyone else.
@@SleepingLion525 because the anit-NRA wants everyone to think guns are evil so kids can't even see a gun in a game. It's fucking dumb imo. Teach them what they are, what they do, and the consequences of them. Not hard. Same with bombs. We should stop protecting kids from the mere "idea" of a thing and start educating them about these things. Like, imo, not teaching kids about weapons and drugs is as irresponsible, if not more so, as not teaching post-pubescent kids about sex ed and the serious consequences of it. Another place we are sorely lacking is financial education. We need to stop overprotecting our children from THINKING about things.
Gulp is harder. Mainly because his cannons aim for where you're going instead of where you were. Also, his health has been increased significantly if I'm remembering that correctly.
Agreed on Bianca! She seemed much more genuinely evil and then repentant. Like she was fooled and really looked up to the Sorceress. In this interpretation she seems like the Sorceress bullies her. Love this and subbed :D LOVE this game
Gulp was definitely harder this time around when I finally beat him I died at the same time but thank god I did not have to restart the whole level again unlike in the older version saved by the PSN trophy I guess.
Regarding Gulp, I think I died like 2 times in the whole of Spyro 2, and 0 times across all of the bosses, so I can't say I had much of an issue. In fact, I felt like Gulp was less likely to get any powerups this time around, and Hunter drops so many sheep that it is really hard to die unless you are not paying attention.
Hmm, seeing this video I got curious with one thing. What´s your opinion about the legend of spyro trilogy, some people love ir because of the universe, plot and themes and other hate because of the gameplay and some distancing that these games have with the original trilogy.
I'm SO GLAD that I wasn't the only one who had issues with the Gulp boss battle. I think in the original, he was easier, but in the reignited trilogy, I think they made him a bit more difficult. I did find myself become frustrated fighting him, mainly because I think they lowered the drop rate of sheep during the fight (unless it's still the same from the original and I don't remember). Still, I can't hate Spyro! I love the crap out all 3 games and the nostalgia they bring.
However Crush is a joke now.
my trick was to manipulate his laser aim go one direction then turn another, the aim predicts ur speed and direction. when he shoots four space urself and zigzag towards him, was satisfying af tho to perfect it
It was way more difficult then the original, but I like it...like he's supposed to be difficult since he's the second boss in a 3 boss game and they totally nailed the idea that he's stronger than Crush
Anyone who has problems with adults at any age geeking out over something that's nostalgic to them needs to grow up.

Blame the ESRB. They were forced to cencor that to keep the E10 rating.
I feel like those "paintball guns" can be interpreted as acid or corrosive material.
They actually shoot sausages now if you look closely
Trouble with the trolley, eh?

This exactly. It took me like 20+ tries to get it right. Also yes, the Gulp fight felt more difficult because of the ray guns on his back.
😂😂 bane of my life!
**PTSD flashbacks**
Have a great Year of the Dragon, Max. It's good to see you gushing over something fun and simple. 💎❤🔥🐲
The first game remains my favourite of all time.
Also Greta and Handel's new design feels very weird to me, I always thought they would look like the powerpuff girls lol
Also, my most favorite part of the whole reignited trilogy is how now every single dragon in spyro 1 has an exclusive new design that match their homeworld. I didn't care much about them in the original because most of them just looked the same with slightly different tweaks. In reignited i found myself super excited to see what they would look like and I could even imagine what their life would be like in their homes based on their looks, it's amazing and I love it
Not really.
Gulp is definitely harder. It's much harder to avoid his plasma bombs. Crush however... Well.. They just made him way easier due to his speed...
Plasma attacks are easy to dodge, the jump attack is the annoying one.
Yeah, I heard Sparx's collecting range has been nerfed and he can no longer collect gems when the player is in the air.
Sparx also sucks at eating butterflies too
I love the reignited trilogy but I had so many nitpicks because I am such a huge fan of the originals, particularly Ripto's Rage.
I can appreciate the detail added and direction they took, but it's just not what it used to be
Yea they look like overly cartoonish at times.
Thanks so much for your review and enthusiasm. I'm so excited to play this!
No more different than the average platformer, play Ratchet & Clank, those are way edgy with innuendos and dark themes.
I figured out how to cheese gulp. When he starts shooting just run in a figure 8 type. Motion. It screws up his AI and from there it's hecka easy to cheese.
Yeah I did that too, you can also just run in a circle :)
Cyrilcynder beat the game hill be easyer to beat XD
I went through Ripto’s rage barely ever losing a life until Gulp. I had nearly 30 lives and left with like 10
You absolutely NAILED this review, I pretty much agree with you on every single point you made although I would add that the newer controls or whatever it is made the super charge challenge in tree tops from Spyro 1 WAY harder, I ended up dying over 20 times and got at least 3 game over screens just from trying to complete that one section as it seemed that unless you pushed the jump button at the exact right millisecond you would end up falling to your death, that was the only major criticism I could make but I think it's fixable.
Yup. Gulp rekt me.
I'm so pleasantly surprised you actually like Spyro, Max. Been a fan since your HBR days. Keep up the amazing work. :)
You the MAN. Walter Sullivan. BTW, expect more videos on Silent Hill in the near future. :)
I would've preferred a solid six-month to a year delay to really get this thing done right, but Activision strikes again, I guess
Such an amazing review on Spyro!! Great work :D
This seems so much longer than 2 months ago! I still have your Christmas present here Max
Think about it man, bombo...
BOMB-O
@ThatOneRaven and guess why!?
Yeah..
Arabian stereotypes and the fear of it triggering SJWs due to the similarities to 9/11
I figured out why Gulp was so much harder, and it's because of how the camera is more zoomed in for the Reignited Trilogy vs the originals.
@ThatOneRaven this is exactly what I meant! In Cloud temples (Spyro 2) the mean wizatds don't do that devilish laughter anymore either..
So, they censored the guns in Scorch just like they did with Twilight Harbor? Did they correct the latter? I remember being irked with the censorship.
Hellbound Iscariot nope still censored unfortunately
@ThatOneRaven I think you can download the original trilogy on the PS4.
I think you and I are basically in agreement here overall.
the dinos in dino mines still have guns so it’s probably more of a different interpretation of the worlds
Get the Crash HD games as well, live it up like it's 1996
I was told by a Sanzaru dev that Spyro 3 didn't have any cutscenes until around August. You could probably see why they didn't have time to do Intros/Outtros.
There were no cutscenes in the original 2000 game so it's okay. It may've rubbed fans the wrong way if they created new cutscenes that weren't part of the original game.
A real review on RUclips. Amazing. Nice work.
That was my main impression of every character in the trilogy. TfB made them much better fitting to their story, which I think is fantastic.
@Púca Stop acting like an idiot.
Actually, Bianca joined because she needed a mentor to help her out on her magic skills not because she wasn’t a nice character, that’s a gross misinterpretation.
I don’t have autism kiddo, but thanks for the projection anyway.
“more like an actual dragon”
um... should i tell him?
What I am glad is they have the Original/Reignighted music option.
Yup I had some trouble beating gulp on my last Spyro stream. He's DEFINITELY tougher now. Which IMO isn't a bad thing!
Perfect review as a fellow long-time spyro fan agreed with everything you said
I've been into Spyro since 2006 when I was 7 years old! The Reignited Trilogy brings something new to me.
I did that trick jumping onto the crystal and then onto the platform with the flying power up on the first level in Spyro 2 in the remastered version. Thought it is a decent bit harder to pull off, and somewhat different to how you would do it in the original, but it is absolutely still possible.
I adore Spyro. I'm glad you did this review. I'll listen on my way to work.
I lied, I'm listening now.
There was an active camera in the original first game.
man I feel you on the control muscle memory part.
I completed the trilogy (That's got everything) and loved it, but I did have a few issues:
Fluffykiwis J the framerate dropping isn’t the issue. It’s bad frame pacing that leads to stutter
Great video, man! Yes, Gulp is way harder here than he ever was! But is that me or Agent 9 is basically Ratchet, now? He controls so much better!
I still have yet to see anyone to talk about the racing skate board challenges. It was even more glitchy through the bonus race.
I never got to play these games as a child, but I always wanted to. And i never got around to playing them, even as an adult. I was hoping Spyro would get the same treatment as Crash with the N-sane trilogy, and I'm so happy he did.
Even Andre Sogliuzzo returned. That's crazy.
Had trouble with gulp is an understatement. I think it took me at least 14 attempts.
Did I remember a second platform with the main one in Autumn Plains?
Load times were rough for us back in the day
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who had trouble beating Gulp! :O
They brought back the dodge roll from the first Spyro game, but i think they should have increased the range a bit, maybe that way it would be a little more useful, especially during boss fights.
Spyro year of the dragon is my favorite Spyro game too🐲🧚🏻♀️✌️
This is the best remake made so far. It kept what had to be kept and improved everything that needed improving, with minor exceptions. I hope more old games get remakes with this level of fidelity.
Gulp is a lot harder now.
I love the remake. I had all 3 games on the PS1 as a kid. The fact that I could share these games with my own kids today is simply amazing.
Thank you for the recommendation this game is awesome.
No problem, homie! I'm glad you're enjoying yourself!
I don't see why they'd censor guns, if anything it's teaching kids that guns are bad and can kill you like in your spyro game.
I really had trouble with Gulp. I think it is the camera that always screwed me over.
In Crash N Sane Trilogy the loading times were patched some time later, don't worry.
And that about muscular memory sounds like I'll have to go through that too, like Crash ;-;
I never had a Playstation, so I was never able to play Spyro.
But man, I wish I had a PS4 to play this remake. It looks so much fun (I forgot whether it's on XBOX or not, but I don't have one of those either)
Da Nintendude it is on Xbox One also
The first time I fought Gulp in Reignited Trilogy I hated how much quicker he was to avoid but I’ve been practicing a bit against him lately and recently was able to finally beat him no damage without the permanent super flame power up
I said the same thing about hunter to my girlfriend who didn’t understand 😂😂 but also yes I agree that the Gulp battle is much harder, I think that’s why there’s not a skill point for perfecting it
Also you didn't mention all the redesigns for the dragons in the first games.
I agree with you to 100%, ESPECIALLY concerning your remarks about Hunters new interpretation.
There was a fan game that foot handed a cease and desist by Activation called Myths Awaken.
I just finished the gulp mission last night... holy shit that was hard, there was literally no pattern to the laser bomb strikes and they always seemed to land right where i was going before i knew i was going there... felt like i was fighting psycho mantis.😂
> 4 to 40 attempts, but the difficulty feels fair
Is this Dark Souls?
> characters dumbed down and 2D'ed to be kid-friendly
I'm unable to understand why people think kids need brainless content, yet it fully explains why kids can't think strongly enough, their intellect isn't being challenged because devs think "intellectual challenge" might mean "intellectual insult".
Spyro was never difficult, the hardest sections were always either a particular minigame, or the flying levels.
Right? The game was made for kids back then, why try to censor it or make characters goofier than they were originally
Gulp was actually a pain in the ass that it took me 2 to 3 hours to beat him
Gulp was definitely harder this time around when I finally beat him I died at the same time but thank god I did not have to restart the whole level again unlike in the older version saved by the PSN trophy I guess.
He's still easy unless you're going for the conservationist trophy
yeah i had a lot of trouble beating gulp. i had 17 lives when i first battled him and won with 3 left.
Gulp was SO much harder. But the skateboarding challenges were so much easier 😂 definitely my favorite game ever made. So happy with the remakes!
Exactly also for Hunter and Bianca and, BTW they made very much easier every and each boss fight.....damn
Gulp took me probably 20 lives to beat. The camera was at its absolute worst in that moment.
Did anyone else take issue with the skateboard controls? I felt like the jumps and gravity were really off.
