i raised dairy goats for years and the way i do it no one has ever been able to tell the difference between goat/cows milk. a few secrets are the buck/billie needs to be away from the does except when breeding. never keep them together, another thing is clear the land, like a regular dairy farm does, of wild onions and persimmons. give them sweet feed during milking and occasionally as regular feed. when milking close the thumb and index finger at the upper part of the teat and gently start closing the other fingers starting at the top and moving down. don't yank or pull. it's a closing process. hope this helps. and warm goats milk is as good or better than cows milk warm. the billie/buck will leave a taint and after taste.

@@Matt-ty6hp when persimmons are green cattle and goats will still eat them and it will dry up their milk. if you have kids on their mother and she eats green persimmons she will stop producing milk. most dairy farmer will tell you if asked. their are a few other plants that causes problems, but i'm not sure what they are.

That’s what we would put on our cereal. I really didn’t like the taste of pet milk but I used it anyhow. Enjoyed the video! Be safe out there!

Goat's milk was a life saver for our family. My youngest daughter was allergic to cow's milk and all of the formula on the market at that time (25 years ago) so Dr. Pummill in Kansas, Ok recommended we put her on goat's milk. He found us a Mennonite lady who raised and milked her goats, and she provided us milk. It was wonderful for our daughter. She loved it and had none of the reactions that she had on cow's milk. You could provide a needed service for a family like ours. I know you are not far from Little Kansas so that could provide you a person to ask for help in feeding your goats so you could milk them and it taste right. Just an idea...

Now I buy it from the store and it's not as good but I'm glad to get it.

The first time I tried goats milk I had the same reaction you both had. I love raw and store cow milk and refused to drink my goats' milk for years. Then I started raising Nigerian Dwarf goats and ran out of milk one night. I was milking and bottle feeding some babies and decided to taste the milk. It was delicious and tasted just like cows milk. I don't feed anything special and they free range all day. I only give about 3/4 of a cup of sweet stock feed mixed with 1/4 cup of rabbit pellets when milking. I have 2 billies that run with my herd year-round and there is no difference in the taste of the milk. Now I'm milking for me and sell those babies as fast as I can. lol

I’ve commented before on Arms Family’s channel on how big their Kiko’s udders are and that they look like they could be milked... your doe looked like she did pretty good. With a little more work, she might make a good milking goat.. If you’ve never drunk raw milk, THAT is likely what is what you’re discerning.. Raw milk is kinda like a thin milkshake. From my understanding, you keep your milking does away from the bucks in a small pen that you can easily capture them in, put the babies up at night, milk in the morning ( feed as you milk), then turn her babies back out with her during the day and then put them up again at night to repeat the process the next day..

Leslie I agree a little more work with her and she will do good.

I love my goat milk and no special diet. I do give alfalfa pellets, or sweet feed to the regular all purpose feed, and corn. Then release the babies with her to go to the field/woods. I only filter it once through a coffee filter screen or a handkerchief. I also use handkerchiefs for my cheeses.
Enjoy learning how to Homestead. Just squeeze the teats don't pull. ;-)

Well I'm glad you found a back up supply for milk. Maybe now find a better diet for her and then see how it goes. Wish you the best. I have never dealt with goats wish you luck.

I would check out "Weed em & Reap" channel, as they milk theirs daily, except for now because they are pregnant. But DaNelle does fix a concoction of organic supplements, and you might be able to find where she tells what they feed them

We do not have goats at this time, but we are looking forward to getting some dairy goats in the bear future. My understanding is to keep them away from the make goat while milking of he will make her milk have an off taste. I used to buy goats milk off of a Nubian goat farm, I love the taste and texture of it. Y’all keep putting out the great videos.

Yes folks, store brought milk goes through a much more processing procedure than a lot of people realise, they do this to in order to produce a constantcy right accross the board, as milk from different breeds of cow vary so much. It sounds to me by what you said that you would get used to the different taste very quickly.😊😊😊

Put a little bit of vanilla in it that would take care of the aftertaste. But be warned it will taste like vanilla ice cream

I just started this year with dairy goats (complete newbie) . I have two Nubians. My kids don't care to drink it straight but put it in smoothies and such. I on the other hand, love it. I think it is the cream I like. I was raised a city kid so this life is completely new but I love it. We use sweet feed and alfalfa. Not sure if we are doing the best but it only takes me 10‐15 min and I get about 1/2 gallon every day (Sharing with the baby)They are super sweet girls and follow me like puppies. I really got them to make cheese but I haven't got it done yet.
