    Great video. Beautiful images, and thank you for including your shot settings, as I always find those informative and educational.
    I've found my perfect two lens setup for backcountry: The OM Systems OM-1, the Olympus M. Zuiko 12-40mm f2.8 Pro, and the 40-150mm f2.8 Pro (full frame equiv. 24-300mm covered). If I need wider than 24mm, it's easily solved by panoramas of 2 or more shots. The Hi Res modes deliver up to an 80 megapixel raw file with extremely low noise even at high ISO's (YES). Even more compact, one could just take their excellent 12-100mm f4 Pro (24-200mm equiv.) and never change a lens. I loved my full frame Canon images, but now I'm carrying half the weight and getting equal and better results.

    Great video! I have also found that these two lenses are a killer combo! I’ll probably make a video on them as well!

    Hey Kemper, awesome recommendation on pairing the two F4 lenses together for landscape photography! I have an interest in panoramas but have noticed you shoot without rotating along the nodal point, is there a post production workflow that corrects for that?

      Honestly I have never really had a problem with parallax (what the nodal point corrects for) in my photography. Really you might have an issue if you have a close foreground object in your panorama. That all being said, 75% of my photography is panoramic and I don’t even own nodal rails. Much more important is a leveling base on your tripod. But honestly I got my start just shooting handheld which you actually do most of the leveling and rotating with your body.

    Thanks for the review. Just ordered to be my go to hiking lens. I’m going to like having the extra 4mm at the wide end , easily over the extra reach of the 24-105.

    Great video! I’m thinking about picking this kit up for shooting mountain sports. So, I have similar landscape requirements but with the added challenge of high speed action.
    Currently, I am using an A7C with a Tamron 28-200. However, I’m thinking about swapping out for an A9i and these two lenses to get up 20 FPS and 20mm focal length. Do you think this two lens kit with the A9 is light enough for backcountry mountain sports and fast enough at f4 to make it a good set up for capturing backcountry skiing and mountain biking?
    *the A9 is limited to 15 FPS with third party lenses.

      I think that would be light enough! Honestly I think you will love that set up! I used the A9 1 and it was maybe my favorite overall experience with a Sony camera

    would you recommend this over 24-105/24-70 gmii for landscape photography given photo IQ and weight?

    • @summitbid
      @summitbid  Год назад +2

      I have used all three lenses and the 20-70 is definitely the landscape go-to. The 24-70gmii is *slighty* sharper at the more telephoto end but not enough to make me use it over the 20-70. The 24-105 falls quite a bit behind in image quality and is much bigger and heavier. It’s only real use case imho is if you need more telephoto reach in a single lens. But honestly I would choose the tamron 28-200 over the Sony 24-105 for that purpose. The 20-70 is one of the better lenses I have tested over the last few years as it does a truly great job of balancing cost, size and versatility with somehow fantastic image quality.

    Thanks for sharing these views. Where does the 24-105 stand ad far as IQ, size, & weight vs the 20-70?

    • @summitbid
      @summitbid  Год назад +1

      The 20-70 has significantly better image quality. I have never the loved the Sony 24-105 compared to other brands version of that lens. If you need more reach than the 70 I would honestly recommend the tamron 28-200. It’s cheap and has a very similar render to the Sony 24-105. But the 20-70 beats out both and is *extremely* similar to the Sony 24-70gmii
