I’m a 42 year old recovering alcoholic. When I first got sober I got blood work done (at age 36), and I was told that my testosterone levels were in the toilet. 3 months of sobriety later, and my levels were back up to normal. I was also tracking my macros and working out 4 times per week during this time. On the 7th of this months I’ll have 6 years of sobriety, and the results of my last blood panel shows that my testosterone levels are a little bit higher than normal for a man of my age and active lifestyle. Guys, if you drink do so in moderation. Otherwise you might be doing more damage than you might think.

If they are and keep moving what is classed as normal eventually there will be medical issues and obviously there already is especially if they keep re-gauging the level every few years as it will give men physical and mental problems as quite often most doctors don't go far enough as they are quir busy and not considering that drop over the years. Is this a hidden agenda to make men less aggressive and more effeminate

Total was 574, but free (calculated) was only 9.4. DHEA was almost non-existent. I am seriously considering hormone optimization therapy to right the ship. I had my testosterone tested at 53. My testosterone level was 535, which is damn good for 53. HOWEVER - I was having difficulty sleeping through the night, difficulty losing belly fat, and difficulty gaining strength despite going to the gym regularly. I started testosterone cypionate injections. Shot up to 1500+, dialed it back, was still at almost 1400 and dialed it back again... I only do 40 mg twice a week and I am noticing a big difference. 535 is normal, even higher than average for a 53 year old. What was your free T level? Your symptoms may not have been related to low T. Keep an eye on your estradiol because at the levels you stated it's very unlikely that your body can use all that testosterone (more is definitely not better)

However, the most important hormone I've optimized is insulin. Gone from fasting insulin of 11.8 to 4.2. The answer is: 20% optimization of thyroid and testosterone to top end of scale. Hate sugar and all added sugars. Low carb diet. 60% what you eat and when you eat it. Lots of protein (6 eggs a day). Lots of raw broccoli and cauliflower and meat. Intermittent fasting 16hrs a day zero calories. 20% exercise. Resistance bands 30mins a day. Feel like 30 again. ED gone. Very lean muscle now.

I've been active my whole life, stay lean, and trained naturally for 20+ years. At 38 the low T hit me hard. Had all the symptoms. Tried everything over the counter for about a year. Nothing really worked consistently. Got a blood test and test was at 230. Started trt per my Dr's suggestion. Started with cypionate and switched to propionate for less water retention. 250ml weekly micro dosed daily keeps me at 900-1100. I also hired a coach. Trt gave me my life back. Everything got better and stays good. I get a full blood panel every year and it's stellar. I work with my Dr and coach to keep me optimized for health and training.

I went to a men’s clinic, and they tested my Testosterone levels. At just over 40, I had a 247 Testosterone level. So the Doctor is going to put me on Clomid in conjunction with an Estrogen Blocker for a two year period to improve my levels. This was the best method, as it will still allow me to have children, as opposed to having my body depend on an outside source for Testosterone. She said that once this treatment starts to work, I should drop weight, have more energy, and put my Testosterone levels back into the 900-1,200 range. I already eat right (though sweets are my vice at times), I just have stress from my job, and I don’t have the energy to exercise. This alternative therapy should help with this, and with a change in my job coming soon, this will help me significantly.

You need to have your prolactin, LH and FSH levels checked if you haven't already so you can figure out why your hypothalamus or pituitary gland is not doing it's job or if it is simply the testicles not doing their job. Please look into the side effects for clomid so you are aware of the risks, especially if you are going to use it for 2 years. Blocking the estrogen receptors on your hypothalamus can initiate the HPTA to start up again but the estrogen receptors in other tissues get blocked to a degree also, which results in some pretty bad shit.

Same issue. My levels were just above low, so despite having every syptom, Dr after Dr ignored my symptoms, read a number a few points too high and booted me. I did eventually find a OBGYN that specialized in male HRT and he gave me pellets. Not one of the 5 Dr's I visited figuring out my syptoms mentioned sleep apnea. I decided on my own to demand a sleep test. And it's apnea. Now because of their lack of effort or giving a shit, even once I get apnea under control, it takes time for the body to start making T again naturally. It could be months or a year before the body restarts. Dr's can ruin our lives as much as help it.

Nothing wrong with improving lifestyle, sleep etc but I frankly doubt it's going to be enough to optimize levels. Many doctors focus on just getting their patient into the so called "normal" range (which varies by lab significantly, not to mention lab results on the same blood sample can come back plus or minus 30-150 percent) at which point they refuse to consider testosterone therapy at all. The focus should be on clinical presentation, not a numbers game. I wonder if Dr. Malik has watched any of the excellent interviews with the prime expert, Harvard urologist Abraham Morgentaler.

If you can afford it, you should test for LH, FSH as well. Those are the signals that tell your testicles to make testosterone. This will tell you if the signal is being sent to the testicles or not. It's very important to know where the testosterone train is failing. Other hormones an endo will test for are IGF-1 and ACTH, but only if they want to rule out the other types of pituitary tumors, which they would only do if our LH / FSH are low.

Also, determine the root cause of your high hematocrit (e.g. sleep apnea, smoking, high altitude, etc.) and address that. TRT may increase hematocrit but it's rarely the true culprit. I have a new fm Dr and she put me on TRT. I've had male drs forever. I had testicular cancer in 09. Within 3 yrs of that surgery I had ballooned 100 lbs. Nothing else changed in that time. Nobody ever mentioned until this woman Dr that that probably caused a reduction in testosterone which led to gaining weight which of course leads to prediabetes etc. One time in those yrs a male Dr did check and said your testosterone is low but it's because of metabolic syndrome. This lady said or you've gained weight uncontrollably and ended up with metabolic syndrome because you've had very low T ever since the cancer and shook her head at the one Dr's answer and all the other Dr's never bothering to check knowing my history and studies showing almost half of men who go through that have low T after. My T was down around 150-175. Gona be interested to see my labs next visit in a few Mos. Dropped 36 lbs so far since she put me on it. Finally not needing coffee and energy drinks just to barely be able to function is great.

The two biggest symptoms are ED/low libido and weight gain. Particularly fat around the mid-section (and it doesn't go away no matter how much you diet). That's the first clue your test has taken a nose dive.

Testosterone therapy was the biggest mistake of my life. I’ve made many, this is the biggest one.

People only think they are stressed, our ancestors had to worry about where their next meal comes from, surviving the winter and not dieing from a scratch or abscessed tooth. People just don't realize how good we have it.

Perhaps you don't understand what stress is? And how can you know people only think they are stressed? Are you psychic? Am I stressed? Yes, I am. Prove me wrong.

Our stress adjusts to our expectations and environment. Humans have a baseline of built in suffering. So one person’s bad day feels as bad as another person’s bad day feels to them. We adjust and adapt.

No, your genetic disposition makes you lose your hair. If you have the bald gene, you're going to go bald. Test will however, accelerate that condition.
