Mrs Gladys Shufflewick (Res Jameson) video made at the Downtown restaurant Surrey Docks, with personal thanks to Ray Reynolds for making this possible.
I saw her (him) at The Black Cap, Camden Town, circa 1977...drunk and brilliant..He (she) used to occasionally double up with Mark Flemming, a glam acid mouthed act, who everyone was terrified of being singled out by and equally hilarious. Thanks for the laughter fellas, so fondly remembered.
Rex was amazing in spite and because of who he was . I talk about him within the book “Sorry Darling it’s Way Past Time “ ( updated kindle edition.) when he was on a huge show prior to the legendary Dorothy Squires at the Paladium many here May remember it…he tore the roof off as Mrs Shuffle ….what a night . I met him out of london in Wolverhampton . A rare move from London , sadly amazing . He didn’t make old bones we all know why …..never forget legends… Bunny Thomas / Thomas Bunn .
The past really is another country. A gentler time and very different approach to Drag when compared to today.

Isolation? Are you OK my friend?
Good ole' shuff. Had many a day with him at black cap, doing me best to keep him sober enough for him to perform. He was a great guy. Love him.....

Love this. Discovered thanks to Myra DuBois creator Gareth Joyner.
Morrissey sent me here! 🙂
Brilliant. By the time I got to see him/her at New Black Cap 1973, s/he was usually too drunk to perform.
I.never knew of this act. He is 1 of the people in the classic Candid Camera " newspaper shop sketch where Jonathan Routh tears a page from the paper
Rex Jameson.
Do you know where Rex is buried? Final resting place.
@@pauljay5478 Sorry, no.
@@pauljay5478 Golders Green Crematorium. The paper of the time said that 500 people attended the funeral! That's a marvellous turn out.
@@MarleneSB Do you know if there is a plaque or headstone still?
@@pauljay5478 No, sorry.
I assume there are no clips of Russ Conway from this show.
Does anyone know where Rex is buried? Last resting place.
Hope the black cap reopens!!!
I thought they demolished the place.
Its apartments now ... total disgrace
What year would this be?
1982
I moved just around the corner to where that club was in 1993 but sadly I think it had closed by then.
