I agree I was telling a friend who is a pro MMA fighter submission grappling would be live like MMA and we would have more grapplers who are famous but its almost like college wrestlers we definitely have a extra push
Economically solvent is the most important concept here. Damn, Again John Danaher is super smart and authentic. Athletes/Grapplers would also have less damage to their brains because there's no punching. There will occasionally be limb injuries however Grappling is the safest and coolest part of MMA in my opinion and it's very underrated.
I disagree with John. I believe the most effective way to make BJJ super popular is to show its dominance in the UFC. When Nate Diaz submitted Conor McGregor, people went crazy over BJJ. The UFC needs more BJJ stars. The mainstream eyes are all on the UFC. In this environment, you need to use that platform to build your own. Keeping Gordon Ryan out of the UFC is the worst thing you can do for BJJ in my opinion, but what do i know? Im just some asshole on the internet.
Unfortunately I don't think he's right - it's not going to change and grapplers will keep struggling to make a living. If even most MMA folks struggle (and it's been a while since the first UFC) imagine for grappling how it's going to be?
You can tell Danaher respects Ben Askrens wrestling. Especially how much of a fan he is of grappling. Bens face looks like a Hercules character or roman soldier.
It would never work im trying to imagine people buying tickets to a grappling match and i just cant see its too quiet i would rather watch a tennis match
The problem with leg specialists in MMA is that they don't do that well historically because they end up being avoided by other fighters. Palhares got banned, but even if he wasn't, he would have ended up as Ryan Hall, stuck. Regarding Gordon Ryan, I think he has the potential to become a GOAT when it comes to teaching BJJ. He's very methodical, and systematic, and BJJ schools desperately need revamping their stale curriculums and methods of teaching. I think he has a very bright future if he takes that road.

@@peterwestenthaler7954 another brick in the wall.
2049, best movie of the decade.
Ben is rocking that dad bod I see
Flo Grappling... whats with all the ads?
I would like to see Askren wrestle Khabib with submissions, but no striking or throws. Just for points or something and safe my gosh.
As weird as Danaher is, the man makes a lot of sense. He's the perfect sage archetype.
Where is the full interview?
Extremely informative and very interesting Podcast for sure that much I’ll say!!!! And as much as I Love MMA , and the UFC especially , I must say that i Agree 💯% with Danaher. He touched on it and has a very good and very valid point!
I love how even in a grappling interview Ben still makes sure to call Usman Marty.
This is the ONLY time I've heard John not say "Gordon Ryan" and just call him "Gordon"
I agree I was telling a friend who is a pro MMA fighter submission grappling would be live like MMA and we would have more grapplers who are famous but its almost like college wrestlers we definitely have a extra push
Damn good interview.
Hes talking to me Ben, not you.
John Danaher .... the guy can read the ingredients on a food label and make it sound interesting. Love this guy.
Well this didn't age well lmao
Been watching Quintet on Ufc fight pass recently and its amazing! if anything can send grappling mainstream its Quintet format!
Wouldn’t Gordon doing well in the UFC give Grappling much more exposure? Oh well
Good point 👍
Ask kron gracie how well that went.
@Slice n Dice aleast those dude did mma Gordon ryan butt scoops.
"Myself Daniel and Henry" one of these things is not like the other!
Marcelo Garcia also struggled in MMA.
I like how danaher is talking to the camera not askren
You can tell Danaher respects Ben Askrens wrestling. Especially how much of a fan he is of grappling. Bens face looks like a Hercules character or roman soldier.
It would never work im trying to imagine people buying tickets to a grappling match and i just cant see its too quiet i would rather watch a tennis match
John’s fashion sense is OP
The problem with leg specialists in MMA is that they don't do that well historically because they end up being avoided by other fighters. Palhares got banned, but even if he wasn't, he would have ended up as Ryan Hall, stuck. Regarding Gordon Ryan, I think he has the potential to become a GOAT when it comes to teaching BJJ. He's very methodical, and systematic, and BJJ schools desperately need revamping their stale curriculums and methods of teaching. I think he has a very bright future if he takes that road.
this week on rash guards and flip flops!
would be nice to see a Gordon Ryan vale tudo match. one off.
This doesn’t feel like a conversation, it’s like Ben giving John a prompt to talk to the camera about
How many people are in Danaher’s basement
Sounds like he wants Gordon to do what is best for John not for Gordon
