I'm 53 so this songs been with me awhile. I never thought it was about suicide, for me it's about confronting your own mortality, and I took it to refer to someone terminally ill.

Everyone has mentioned SNL skit, but I remember this more fondly in the Stephen King book and Mini-series The Stand. It was a super long book, I read when I was a teenager. Plot revolved around a superflu that killed 99% of the global population. Of course it is totally irrelevant in this day and age.

It’s on RUclips-all four episodes in a single video-but the audio goes dead when this song plays, presumably because of the copyright. I’m really looking forward to the remake. I read somewhere that he wrote it for his girlfriend dying of cancer and never intended it to be on an album and she requested it to be her gift to everyone. Which makes a lot more sense considering the song he is clearly telling a woman to not be afraid of death.

Buck is not the lead singer..all members took turns at singing..but if you had to call out a lead singer..probably Eric Bloom...Bloom sang the more edgy songs while buck sang the more melodic songs. And dont forget the bass and drum players..the brothers Alberto and Joe Bouchard who also sang the more obscure songs. Even Alan Lanier the keyboard player sand a song or two

Hello. Thank you for your many reactions to songs. This is my number one song. I noticed that you did listen to Alan Parsons Project but there is another album they did that is unlike anything you have ever heard. One man posted in comments on youtube with the entire album, "This record, more than any other, is the reason that I became a recording engineer." That says a lot. The album is Tales of Mystery and Imagination. It is about Edgar Alan Poe's tales and they do some fantastic work on it! The second half is more instrumental but worth listening to if you understand the stories. You have to start with A Dream within a Dream and go through The Raven. They are the first two songs but the first is more of an intro to The Raven. Can't wait to see your reaction to this one! I was introduced to this in 5th grade by my English teacher. I wish I could remember her name to thank her! (If you have to choose only one make it The Raven.)
