I genuinely think the reason that there's no ground vehicles is because there is no need for them in a game mechanics sense. If you've played any Bethesda game before, all of the locations are a lot closer together than they actually feel and travel on foot feels good, plus with fast travel to/from found locations, there's no real long stretch of distance you will have to walk after the initial exploration of the area. For this same reason I never even used horses in the Elder Scrolls games. Just never felt like there was a real need or reason to.
As others said, don't expect anything like ED from Starfield, likely space is just a fasttravel minigame and spaceships horses, the interiors dungeons. It's not a space sim.

The one thing which stood out for me during the interview with Pete on the Xbox On video was when he said something that is there on the planet for me, might not be there for you. So does this indicate that the non hand made sections of planets will proc-gen differently for each player? I thought each planet would have been the same for all players by prec-genning using a seed system? Or maybe he meant random events which can be discovered by following your activities.
From what I gather, the planet themselves and terrain are the same for all players. What changes is the outposts, settlements, structures, dynamic quests or events that occur on those locations. Of course main quests or crafted quests stay the same for all players
@KRG30001 @@Darkdiver28 Had a feeling this was likely the case. Would be strange having different planets on each playthrough. I wonder how long its going to take before the player base fully explores all planets? Can't wait to play and start discovering stuff, as well as seeing what the community find too.
If it's random event's that just makes me think about Fallout 4 where there are set places in the world where an event may occur ,but it is randomized witch even can occur. Like finding 2 guys accusing each other of being robots on two separate playthrough's I found that even on different places on the map. So it may actually be similar here but the events are a bit expanded and having them happen on different planets. Hopefully they make it so not every event can be encountered in each planet like having some that occur on the planets with life and different ones on planets without life
I could see new game plus being a type of “time travel” option you unlock at the end of the game, going back in time but keeping some perks and skills, maybe items
Wouldnt it be cool if you could make your own space nation? Settle multiple planets then setup trade routes between them and with the other factions and add in warships to patrol those space lanes. Have bustling settlements and cities etc etc.
Imagine if someone makes a Skyrim planet and ports the entirety of Skyrim into Starfield. Imagine being asleep on your ship, waking up to find yourself inexplicably on a wagon and hearing "Hey you, you're finally awake,".
I can confirm that what happened to Pete was he clipped out of the ship, this happened to me last night. I was surprised I couldn’t access to ship hatch and before I had a chance to leave I was already in the air and clipping through the now closed ramp.
What are your plans for starfield? Like, by plan, I mean do you intend to give an actual review after playing it. Or are you going to stick with your usual kind of videos, where you make individual videos about various aspects as you come across? I dont mind whatever you do, I'm just curious since the game is so big even if you had gotten a preview copy i cant imagine a real review taking anything less then a full month. And honestly, I actually wouldn't mind seeing you tackle a full review. Although I understand it'd a formidable undertaking with perhaps not a lot of results. Perhaps your usual style of highlight aspects of games as you play and then a full review later on?
At this point, people with some connection to Starfield's development has compared it to Daggerfall, Oblivion and Skyrim. I wonder if they can squeeze in Arena and Morrowind in the time left?
That will be very hard due to collision and object streaming which is far simpler with terrain. Procedural cities aren't new. But to have them work with roads, buildings and proper paths while retaining performance is very hard. The best example in gaming is ArcCorp.
Thing I'm looking forward to is the scope of repeatable randomly generated mission board content. Some people find it boring but I love how it makes an RPG feel alive. Sometimes I don't want to be the hero, sometimes I just want to ferry some passengers or mine some rocks while enjoying the scenery.
Ever since I bought NoMan'sSky on day 1, I've been very wary of jumping into a new game as soon as it drops. That said, I am excited to see what Starfield has to offer. I'll give it a few days and watch to see what your reviews tell me.
Nobody in the modern day, after years and years of bad experiences, should still be pre-ordering any game unless there are some seriously valuable bonuses to doing so, and if you've got a refund avenue available - It's not like the days of going down the shops only to find out that the game has sold out! 😅
The trouble is, reviews from the major sites aren't very trustworthy these days. About the only person I trust to call out big name games and not kiss corporate arse is Skillup. Yes, he liked Cyberpunk as I'm sure someone will say but he was very clear in his review about the issues with that game.
@@WraithOfMan I respectfully disagree, but just personally, I get your way of thinking as well. For me, if it's a game that I already know I'm going to buy (Pretty much any Main title Bethesda Game Studios game falls in this category), then when I do it is kind of irrelevant, so I usually just pre-order them. If It's a game that I'm on the fence about if I will like or not, then I'll usually watch a YT playthrough of it and the moment I start to get interested, I'll shut it off and go buy the game and play it for myself. I don't ever read game reviews and personally I don't value them as nobody except myself can tell me if I'm going to like a game or not. I don't care what someone else's opinion of a game is, I care what mine is and I won't know until I either see it, or play it myself. Plus, if everyone thought the way you do (not saying your thinking is bad or anything), then you wouldn't have anyone else's opinion of the game to even go off of, because no one would be playing it at all. EDIT: To be clear, I generally don't really care and am not bothered by initial game bugs. They will get patched and it doesn't physically hurt me or anything to encounter a bug in a video game. It's always been a silly thing to get upset about in my personal opinion, but again that's just my own view. The one game that I played that had so many bugs that I was actually bothered by it was Cyberpunk, but I ended up not liking the game anyway for other reasons. CDPR games are just boring to me, I've discovered.
Is the sandwiches on the table a selling point reference to, "Look how many items in one space graphic power can do now!" or is it a bite for sandwich on table memics idea? A big part of me with what I know from past games is hoping hard this becomes mind breaking. Modders will be going to town with this! Modders, you all rock!
Pretty sure it’s just an acknowledgment of prior titles having players stack cheese, cabbages, sweet rolls, or other individual items within various game spaces like home basements. It’s a long standing meme within the Elder Scrolls games. Some players may do it with Fallout titles too, but I don’t know any specific references.
You mean the leaks that contradict earlier statements made as to the ability to walk all around? I'm not surprised if that is true. The tweet that was used as evidence of free roaming didn't ask the question properly and that was abundantly clear that the response didn't specifically confirm anything. They just said you could explore the entire planet but never said it would seamlessly load. I know that's splitting hairs but Bethesda has been tip toeing around the answer which is why that tweet was still ambiguous
Has anyone seen footage of a planet displaying weather yet? Yes, there's lots of varying types of biomes, but I don't recall seeing any rain or weather effects other than a bit of mist. Anyone seen/heard anything?
Normally they don't show weather because it's not there in the first place. The only time I've seen Bethesda do weather was in Morrowind, since then there games have been a big let down in the weather department.
Can’t wait for the modding community to get to work on starfield. I want to crash land on a planet, and then the Skyrim intro plays. “Hey you! You’re finally awake!”
Nice that AMD finally addressed the DLSS issue. Though it's interesting it took this long. (This isn't the first time it's come up.) Maybe they actually listened to players? Can we hope our voices might actually matter?
A dream come true for anyone waiting for a true HP Lovecraft themed planet where you have to fight eldritch beast... Even the giant monsters floating in space !!
Love to see super dangerous worlds from the writings of Neal Asher. Imagine Gabbleducks, Syluroyns and Hyluroyns and other nasties heading to take you out.
Thanks for the update, very interesting as always. I start getting excited for the game ;) I just bought the premium edition and hope to play on Sept. 1st, if it will be available on Steam at this date.
4 Planet mods I really want to see in the future: •Pandora from Avatar •Prehistoric earth with dinosaurs •City-wide planet like Coruscant with Cyberpunk vibe •Ocean planet like Subnautica (Maybe they add underwater mod too?)
I'm keeping my expectations low about underwater experiences. Everything I've heard so far suggested there's no swimming functionality at all or underwater expiration but I hope I'm wrong. One more correctly I hope the people explaining this to me are wrong
In no order, for me it's LV-426, then Higgins' Moon, Miranda and several others from Firefly/Serenity. I can let others do the Star Wars and Trek planets.
FSR is available to both Nvidia and AMD gpu's... You are getting the same experience basically. too bad Nvidia is stingy and only develops DLSS to be used on their cards only.
I'm just thankful that the character eye lines are far more natural than other games that came before. Yes, I'l looking at you, Andromeda! The fact that you were not given a reviewer's key is a mistake!
I havnt seen any footage of planets getting larger the closer you get to them in realtime yet. Or anyone asking the question why? Being a fan of "space" games This has me very sceptical about the "space" sections atm and I am wondering if the backdrops are just a skybox...
Still excited but a little less due to someone confirming planets have limits. walk so far and it'll say you can't go further and you need to go back etc. :(
@UKGeezer these guys get their information from a 4chan source and take it as truth. This is why they didn't want leaks, some people are gullible enough to take any information as truth.
August 31st for me! Definitely excited to lose my job from calling into work too many days to play Starfield! 🤣 I have a 4090, so the lack of DLSS doesn't bother me personally, but I do hope that they eventually add it because a majority of PC gamers probably have NVIDIA cards over AMD
I bought a new ROG Strix ultra wide for my rig to get ready for Starfield. Praying hard to the gods of silicon that the PC version runs smoothly. My rig can eat this game for breakfast so, hardware limitations are zero concern and I hope it isn't crippled by any skullduggery with key bindings and such. Yeah, Skyrim was a lot more of a casualized game than Oblivion. Oblivion quest lines and progression were a serious investment that was very rewarding upon completion.
They have locked out pilot tiers to fly different ships??? Thats very interesting. I like that as an idea, We will see how its executed. Would really have been nice to have fully realized atmosphere flight hearing that. Because my expectation is that space flight as a mechanic will wind up becoming a novelty after so many hours without any real ties to planetary landing and in atmosphere travel.
The planetary landings and atmospheric flight gets old very quick. Space flight on the other hand, as a mechanic, doesn’t really lose its novelty when one considers (for the fist time in space games) players can combat and takeover npc spaceships, visit with randomly occurring npc ships, trade with npc ships in space, and look for interesting locations/occurrences which the devs may have planted in space for players to find.
@@sostrongineedmoreofyourmon974 I mean, From playing nearly a decade of space flight games from NMS to ED to SC. I just flatly disagree. Unless the combat has genuine depth to it, Which I very highly doubt, though we shall see. It does wind up as a novelty. The vast empty space needs to be pretty beautiful and ethereal to have that gameplay be genuinely compelling. Where has transferring from space to atmosphere is nearly always more interesting as a mechanic.
Im pretty sure the game is gonna be pretty instanced, e.g moving from boarding ramp to in ship, going in buildings, planet surface to space, system to system and so on. This is probably both the engine and for performance as this isnt really a simulator. Probably no EVA or infinite flying or walking for this reason as your moving from map to map. I think this will be fine though, I never found skyrim any better when modders made towns be loaded alongside the outsides and would rather better gameplay and performance. But its something people should keep in mind to avoid disappointment.
Zero g gameplay in space stations and enemy space ships has been shown off for a while In trailers, and the game makes you wear a helmet in no atmosphere environments or you take damage.
@@arcanephysics7384 yeah I hope so even if its just for immersions sake, im someone who always enjoyed doing an EVA just to fly around my ship in person and gaze out into the infinite. I assumed they would need some gameplay element to want to develop it even as an instance with your ship and the closest nearby not moving etc but feared they wouldn’t bother but I hope im wrong there 🤔
How skilling is described ("using a skill improves it") matches The Elder Scrolls, but not Fallout like you say it does in the video? If I recall correctly, skill use in Fallout just gives xp and you use levels to buy attributes or skills. But only in The Elder Scrolls can using a skill improve that specific skill, and then you can use level-ups to increase other abilities, etc. E.g. to improve running in TES you run, plus can buy supporting stats like increased stamina. To improve running in FO you must buy relevant skills; running alone will do nothing. Am I right? I'm glad to hear they'll use the TES method.
Do we have any sort of information about the mod cap? I believe the mod loader in the previous titles only was able to address a maximum of 200 mod files at once, which was very quickly reached and only few mods could be merged, which was a complicated process that could cause other issues. I guess space bows are also pretty much off the table now. I won't be playing at all though. Over a week without cable internet and there's no telling when they dig up the street again to find the issue, while I have to pay absurd prices just for a few GB of extra data on my mobile contract. :( At least it made the pre-order question obsolete.
1) Skyrim SE supports mods that don't take up space in your loadorder. I guess you can consider this issue fixed. 2) Can't you just ... i don't know ... visit a friend and download the game there?
@@daven9536 1) That is not quite correct. There's still the old ESP 8 bit string file limit and the introduction of ESL files is also limited in various ways. 2) I don't have friends.
Do we know if there will be a VR version eventually? Beth does have a good track record about that, but MS seems to be a little lukewarm about it at the moment, and if they actually concentrate on the console version I could see them ignore it...
Be cool if you could build satellites around a plant and fight npc to protect them . Like the can destroy your fast travel making you have to hunt them down and repair your fast travel satellite
I'm so looking forward to it but I'm going to have to wait as my ll year old pc's not good enough to run it... even so, I still preordered it (well I wasn't going to but Green Man Gaming had a special offer which I took advantage of) but will have to wait 'til Christmas before I can play it finally, assuming I can afford a newer pc at that time. Until I can play it myself, I'll gorge myself on the RUclips videos and see others having fun, which I also enjoy. It's a shame the specs are somewhat prohibitive as my older pc plays ESO really very well ... if Starfield allowed for older machines I could enjoy it much sooner. Anyway ... good times are about to roll folks!
From what i understand, Ray tracing/ path tracing, isn't an Nvidia thing. It's down to whether or not the developers want to use it. You can use either on an AMD card
It's sad to hear that you don't have access to a review copy of the game, while way way smaller channels without the spacegame focus got access right away.
New Game+ would be neat if it lets you start/play as a specific character(s) you’ve encountered. Or you can start as a non-human and play from that perspective… Or your first character is an npc or rival in new game + character
PC-turned-NPC could be really good, after a full playthrough they'd have massive amounts of datapoints to flesh "us" out... a Kleptomania perk is pretty much guaranteed to everyone 😂
I'm okay with needing to jump between planets in system, though the option to go the slow way would be nice. Also I hope EVA is really an option, but I haven't seen controls detailing z-axis movement for zero-g so its probably not in yet and might be hard to mod in.
That's always my fear with Bethesda games, it's also geared towards a causal player. I'd be more than happy with manual flight controls and cruising between planets in a system. I love the big empty and the journey along the way.

@@RexDeorumYT Well as an AMD user it's going to make a change to see their logo as the game boots up. Also I don't care about FSR or DLSS as they are both a tech I don't use.
I think he meant random events but they said random events this time can include whole outposts spawning
Hopefully they make it so not every event can be encountered in each planet like having some that occur on the planets with life and different ones on planets without life
@mikkdc alot less time than you think
I could see new game plus being a type of “time travel” option you unlock at the end of the game, going back in time but keeping some perks and skills, maybe items
Wouldnt it be cool if you could make your own space nation?
Settle multiple planets then setup trade routes between them and with the other factions and add in warships to patrol those space lanes. Have bustling settlements and cities etc etc.
I hope we can fly ourselves to different planets without relying on jumping. Oh and space walks would be great
as far as the leaks goes, a bunch of things arent as seamless as Bethesa made it seem so far. I would control my expectations if I were you

Imagine if someone makes a Skyrim planet and ports the entirety of Skyrim into Starfield. Imagine being asleep on your ship, waking up to find yourself inexplicably on a wagon and hearing "Hey you, you're finally awake,".
Piet hein, piet hein, piet hein zijn naam is fijn. Zijn daden waren groot, zijn daden waren groot.
One thing I’ll be doing is learning to make planets and maps. That is one thing I want to do
Definitely need a raxla planet, with a raxla shrine, or artifact or something crazy
I would love to see a fallout four 4 themed space suit resembling the t51b power armor and enclave power armor
Only 4 days left. 👏🏽
I feel so calm right now it's kinda scary.
I wonder if there will be big space battles we can be a part of
I can confirm that what happened to Pete was he clipped out of the ship, this happened to me last night. I was surprised I couldn’t access to ship hatch and before I had a chance to leave I was already in the air and clipping through the now closed ramp.
now imagine how cool would this be. Some of the people left earth on starfield because of the great war (fallout series) .
It's not cool, it's dumb af, the two games are set in two separate and different universes.
I'm taking bets on how long it takes for someone to create Coruscant or Nar Shaddaa.
This is a very wise idea.
I hope that one of the modders are a big star wars fan, imagine visiting mustafar or a planet inspired by it
Regarding EVA, I think it's safer to assume it's not really a thing, otherwise I'd imagine it's an easy answer to give if it was, or even show off
I would really love a Pandora planet with a massive floating island where you can build a house/base
that would be amazing
Good questions 🤞
I really enjoy watching your videos with my wife. Plus, your voice sounds like a video game storyteller or even like David Attenborough. So chill 🙂👍
Someone will recreate Earth: mark my words.
It was quirky female dev telling us how much of a quirky female dev she was
You heard about the boundaries Ant? I'm keeping quiet, but the explorer in me has taken a gut-punch
Being able to walk in one direction for more than 40 minutes without doing anything whatsoever must be very important to you in a game
Has anyone seen footage of a planet displaying weather yet? Yes, there's lots of varying types of biomes, but I don't recall seeing any rain or weather effects other than a bit of mist. Anyone seen/heard anything?
i'd love to see random violent storms occur tailored to each planet.
"..get to work on Starfield.." for the bug fixes 😁
Nice that AMD finally addressed the DLSS issue. Though it's interesting it took this long. (This isn't the first time it's come up.)
Maybe they actually listened to players? Can we hope our voices might actually matter?
A dream come true for anyone waiting for a true HP Lovecraft themed planet where you have to fight eldritch beast... Even the giant monsters floating in space !!
Love to see super dangerous worlds from the writings of Neal Asher. Imagine Gabbleducks, Syluroyns and Hyluroyns and other nasties heading to take you out.
Cannot wait for the StarWars 18+ overhaul.
Microsoft did us all a service by making this exclusive. The mod community would have been horrible if we had to follow sony's restrictions.
i am shocked they didnt send you a EA review copy, as far as i know @ObsidianAnt is one of the largest space genre channels
Thanks for the update, very interesting as always. I start getting excited for the game ;) I just bought the premium edition and hope to play on Sept. 1st, if it will be available on Steam at this date.
4 Planet mods I really want to see in the future:
•Pandora from Avatar
•Prehistoric earth with dinosaurs
•City-wide planet like Coruscant with Cyberpunk vibe
•Ocean planet like Subnautica (Maybe they add underwater mod too?)
Give me cyberpunk 2077 LOL. Why when I can just play cyberpunk 2077? Because I can GO SPACE for my girl Lucy lol
And a purge planet
I want to make an H.P. Lovecraft inspired planet
This game is gonna be amazing for sure
Will wait & see
A mission board where I can do things like passenger transportation? That’s another Star Citizen ‘future profession’ itch to scratch off then.
Good potential news regarding DLSS/Nvidia support, however I'll wait until it's added and reviewed before purchasing Starfield.
You only need DLSS if you don't have a decent graphics card. What do you mean by Nvidia support? You don't need an AMD card to play the game.
FSR is available to both Nvidia and AMD gpu's... You are getting the same experience basically. too bad Nvidia is stingy and only develops DLSS to be used on their cards only.
I hope they make a Mustafar planet, complete with a Darth Vader base... That would be so beyond bada**!
I wonder if the mods will be available on the console version?
I actually preordered and am just waiting for release now... I wouldn't have been able to keep my hands off it anyway. :D
Vulcan, Romulus & Remus, Bajor, and of course, Risa. Then there is Kypton, and Oa, Warworld and Apocalypse.
makes you wonder if some crazy person is gonna start adding star wars planets...like coruscant
I'm just thankful that the character eye lines are far more natural than other games that came before. Yes, I'l looking at you, Andromeda! The fact that you were not given a reviewer's key is a mistake!
I'll wait and see mostly because I don't have a rig to play it on yet.
The last video had one of its comments ask about modding planets.
I havnt seen any footage of planets getting larger the closer you get to them in realtime yet. Or anyone asking the question why? Being a fan of "space" games This has me very sceptical about the "space" sections atm and I am wondering if the backdrops are just a skybox...
6th of September for me, still have BG3 and AC6 going strong.
Still excited but a little less due to someone confirming planets have limits. walk so far and it'll say you can't go further and you need to go back etc. :(
Where did you hear this?
Pete hines said the exact opposite at games com
I thought they already confirmed you can walk around entire planets.
@UKGeezer these guys get their information from a 4chan source and take it as truth. This is why they didn't want leaks, some people are gullible enough to take any information as truth.
@@UKGeezer that's what I heard yes. but this leak says otherwise. I guess we'll see for sure in a week.
August 31st for me! Definitely excited to lose my job from calling into work too many days to play Starfield! 🤣
I have a 4090, so the lack of DLSS doesn't bother me personally, but I do hope that they eventually add it because a majority of PC gamers probably have NVIDIA cards over AMD
Thats how Frontier hid Raxxla from everyone for so long. They were saving it for modders to put on Starfield
I'm curious, why do you think that'd prevent EVA? I imagine you could just have a loading screen when exiting the ship into space
I assumed they would need some gameplay element to want to develop it even as an instance with your ship and the closest nearby not moving etc but feared they wouldn’t bother but I hope im wrong there 🤔
Just watch people create an entire Star Wars galaxy of planets now!
star wars mod would be grate.
At least it made the pre-order question obsolete.
I would imaging he clipped out of the ship when the asset despawned.
Do we know if there will be a VR version eventually? Beth does have a good track record about that, but MS seems to be a little lukewarm about it at the moment, and if they actually concentrate on the console version I could see them ignore it...
No mention of it yet and my guess is if it does happen, it will be in a few years. VR is still very much a niche market.

Sure in the starfield special anniversary vr edition. It will be the 4th rerelease after the sell starfield fishing edition.
This is how The Oasis from Ready Player One begins.
Anyway ... good times are about to roll folks!
someone is definitely going to create the planet Nirn, and recreate all of Tamriel on it, god bless
Can you build settlements on an asteroid or a comet ....... no level cap love that
All that means is that every new day is going to be like Christmas as far as mods for this game are concerned.
From what i understand, Ray tracing/ path tracing, isn't an Nvidia thing. It's down to whether or not the developers want to use it. You can use either on an AMD card
Well, now I see potentials in this game, modders will make whole solar system I think
It's sad to hear that you don't have access to a review copy of the game, while way way smaller channels without the spacegame focus got access right away.
The fact that cosmic bob ross didn't get a review code is a crime !
"Create what ever you want even planets" This is going to turn into the OASIS from Ready Player One.
In 3 years, modders will recreate Pandora from Avatar.
New Game+ would be neat if it lets you start/play as a specific character(s) you’ve encountered.
Or you can start as a non-human and play from that perspective…
Or your first character is an npc or rival in new game + character
PC-turned-NPC could be really good, after a full playthrough they'd have massive amounts of datapoints to flesh "us" out... a Kleptomania perk is pretty much guaranteed to everyone 😂
Hearing that it will be more like Oblivion than Skyrim is the best news I've heard so far.
Not if they are talking about the leveling system...
man this game with modded planets hopefully with pandora from Avatar!! omg that would my dream so looking forward to this game
Just only 5 more days left until the 5 day early access 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm okay with needing to jump between planets in system, though the option to go the slow way would be nice. Also I hope EVA is really an option, but I haven't seen controls detailing z-axis movement for zero-g so its probably not in yet and might be hard to mod in.
That's always my fear with Bethesda games, it's also geared towards a causal player. I'd be more than happy with manual flight controls and cruising between planets in a system. I love the big empty and the journey along the way.
@@lashed1980hope you’re not going into this game thinking it’s somehow sim based because you’ll be highly disappointed. Bethesda games have always been casual not sim
