My Struggle With Online Stalking And Harassment

  • I was the victim of online stalking, harassment, and identity theft as a Police Officer. On more than one occasion, I had to report it to the Police Department I was working for at the time. The report was filed with myself as the victim. It was embarrassing, but necessary.
A simple 'like' on a post can lead to an obsession which can last days, years, or until an arrest is made. You often hear about suspects being arrested outside celebrities homes. But it doesn't always start with an innocent interaction at all, sometimes there hasn't been any interaction at all. Zero. You might not even be aware until something drastic occurs.
Please view my previous video from a couple months ago titled Cop Identity Theft - disturbing and scary:
    • Police Officers' Onlin...
It's not uncommon at all and it seems as though social media companies don't even care at times. I've investigated hundreds of cases and it's extremely concerning and a growing problem. I had plenty of resources available to me, but what about those who don't? It can be devastating, often leading people to seclusion.
Quite often, victims are hesitant or too embarrassed to report the matter to Police. They might not want friends or family to know. It's completely understandable, but sometimes these things need to be dealt with immediately before the behaviour escalates. Suspects often see inaction as acceptance, oddly enough.
Has this ever happened to you? If you're comfortable, please feel free to share how you coped with it as a way to assist others. If you find this visa useful, please consider subscribing to my page.
Forgive me for the sub-par sound. I'm wearing my lapel mic but I forgot to connect it 😂
Have a great day, be safe out there.

What a disturbing story. So sorry. I’m an introvert and would hate that sort of attention not to mention how scary it would feel. My good friend experienced identity theft and it took such a long time for everything to get sorted. Really does disturb your life. It’s not easy to know who to trust online. I think that’s when I think we need to listen to instinct. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, this is awful that you had to experience this. So violating. I'm sorry this happened to you. This is why dogs are the BEST, they never let you down, they don't lie to you, or betray you and they're so compassionate with unconditional love most humans should be like and learn a thing or two from. They got more sense than most humans and truth be told to they don't have a conscience which tells you something more. This is also why true dog/animal lovers who have a bond with their fur babies cry and grieve more for their loss than most humans.

Finally though, I wish your department had operated a kind of sting.. to actually lure and meet this person and maybe also whoever was the third party.. so that we can be sure they totally out of action!
The mental stress can really not be quantified.
    Take care Our Officer Arnault.

Stalking is so damn hard to prove when they do it in person, online is even harder. My ex use to use “find my phone” without my knowledge after someone gave him my cell phone number. Now he still comes creeping around (because someone else told him where I lived) and will sit in a car and watch my house. People are insane. By the way I left that ex 16 years ago and have been zero contact yet again the day of his birthday this past fall, there was again a car sitting in front of my house and when I walked out to confront him put the car in reverse and took off. Sadly although I have contacted authorities because his country of residence isn’t the same as mine, they can’t help me. It is really not funny. I am considering vanishing to be finally free of him because unfortunately it might be the only way.

You were a police officer , a man, had all the resources, privileges and knowledge about how to handle a situation like this . Now imagine what an ordinary citizen like me would have gone through?
In my case the police officer who attended my call at first was not even ready to listen to what was actually happening. My case was not related to any fake marriage profile though , because I would prefer to stay away from the social media back then and would strictly use social media for my business.

Do you watch the show catfish … omg From the producers of the critically acclaimed 2010 documentary film "Catfish" comes a TV version, which follows the journey of couples who have formed an online relationship but have never met in person. Filmmakers Yaniv "Nev" Schulman -- whose own online love drama was the subject of the "Catfish" film -- and Max Joseph travel around the country to tell the stories of these hopeful romantic partners, and each hourlong episode is filled with mystery, surprises, and sometimes even shocking revelations as one partner discovers the truth about his or her significant other. What will happen when they meet in real life for the first time?

Now imagine if this can happen to a police officer then who is safe? The police department should have hired more cyber security experts or should have provided the cyber security training to their police officers . @PCArsenault , you were lucky enough that you knew who to report to in such a situation. I didn’t have any such privilege when I was trying to explain the situation to the police over the phone and a rude police lady taunted me saying, “it’s already been 2 minutes and you’re not even able to explain, what’s happening!”
That rude police lady who attended my call first time when I reported the issue was asking me to give her the exact address where the fraud happened and I was trying to explain her that it was an online e-commerce buying and selling platform. I was telling her about eBay and she was insulting me constantly saying, “ GIVE. ME. THE. ADDRESS.”
