  • In this video, I delve into the often misunderstood reasons behind police intervention in street games like hockey, basketball, and lacrosse. While the media may portray these actions negatively, there are important considerations such as property damage and noise complaints. I emphasize the importance of youth staying active but also highlights the need for a time and place for these activities. I share real stories and insights from my experience as a police officer.
I now have a website which acts as a hub, please check it out! OfficerArsenault.com

I raised my kids in Pickering. Boys, now in their early 30s. They played road hockey, roller blading, skate boarding and jumping home made ramps on there bikes.
More annoying was my neighbours who left their dog out at 5 am to bark all morning until I started screaming across the fence for the dog to shut the f__k up.❤

I did many of those activities in Pickering as a kid as well ☺️

Thank you, Mr. Randy, for the interesting video about common problems. These issues occur not only at night but also during the day. For instance, playing basketball and using a ball pump might bother neighbors who work at night and sleep during the day.
I had a similar problem before with noise disturbance. When I moved into a nice neighborhood, I rented a townhouse attached to my neighbor's home. My neighbors are in their 60s, and their bedroom is adjacent to mine, with only a thin wall between us. This thin wall made it easy to hear each other's noise.
In the first couple of years, the woman next door would frequently knock on my bedroom wall, asking me to be quiet. This constant knocking bothered me a lot. Sometimes, it was caused by me using my dresser or closet, or my kids jumping on the bed or playing in the room. At times, I would knock back loudly in frustration, but eventually, I decided to stop and remain silent. I realized I didn't know her situation or health condition.
One day, after a couple of years had passed, I was coming home from work when the elderly lady approached me and apologized for her past behavior. Her apology surprised me and made me more empathetic. We became more friendly after that. Her husband even offered to let us use his lawn mower, and sometimes, he would mow our front yard without any explanation.
This experience taught me the importance of understanding each other through communication and apologies. By being open and empathetic, we were able to resolve our differences and build a positive relationship.

I was a cop and went into community policing and in the inner city I had an area with the most murders in the city and lots of street people with substance abuse…kids going to school were finding used syringes and condoms from the male sex trade workers and were using them for water pistols and water balloons… I had to do my mandatory transfer I went to the suburbs in community policing and the first complaint I got was a woman upset because some cadets on a Sunday morning were doing drill and making noise, I wish neighbours got to do a mandatory transfer just to get some perspective

I remember back in the day using a tennis ball..still it was pretty noisy and lots of ricochets off of the neighbouring cars...but those 1950's and 60's cars could take more dings and hits than the ones today...still doesn't make it right but when your 8 years old..your not thinking about anything right but just beating the other team and maintaining bragging rights. I remember one day we were all called to go in for lunch..when we came out all our sticks were gone...everything else remained...very confusing..who would steal our hockey sticks??? Turns out the old Italian guy at the end of the road thought we had thrown them away and then we seen our lovely Victoriaville sticks sawed off in his yard holding up his prize winning tomato plants. Needless to say we didn't bother playing street hockey the rest of the summer...no one had extra money to buy sticks...and the parents..well, they were glad the noise and dings and dents stopped.)))Growing pains up in Hamilton Thanks For the memories Randall!!..Good stuff!! cya in the next one😊

Steet hockey was a staple of our lives. I can understand why street sports are banned in certain neighborhoods. Some people don't mind at all the kids making noise but everyone does mind property damage on their homes, cars and so forth. I mean if the logistics of the street are allowing of street hockey, cool. Kids need to understand that when you play on the street, it's healthy but risky. I wish I had a backyard level and big enough to have the neighborhood kids play there in a small but wide area to avoid property damage. All I ask is for the participants to call their families to let then know where their at. When the street lights are on, get out and have a good night.

Im always hyper aware of making too much noise for neighbours! In part because I hate hearing noise from neighbours too lol It’s one of the downsides of city living. I wish school playgrounds were a safer option. I know kids love to hang out there in part because it is away from parents, it’s a place to meet friends and you can make more noise generally because there aren’t neighbours close by. I did the same growing up. I wish there was a neighbourhood watch of sorts for these places because I know they’ve become more dangerous and a place where young tweens/teens can be groomed by older teens to get into serious trouble.
I feel for kids because there aren’t as many safe places anymore. At home there are time noise restraints even though we know teens stay up late (and like to sleep in!) and at inner city public places like school yards, it’s risky. Neighbourhoods should starts a watch where they check in on school yards or something like that. I don’t know. Just thinking.
And yet teens need physical activity now more than ever and not always organized sports. They need free play time to hang out and play ball and talk with friends. It’s actually quite sad when you think about it.
On a lighter note, the Italians using hockey sticks for tomato plants made me smile :)

Like everything else people just need to use common sense. Kids used to play hockey on our street and I thought it was great. It's a quiet street and the kids were well behaved.

6:11…Hey, Mr. Randy. Don’t worry about people looking down on you. People will always have opinions, whether you’re doing well or not. If you’re succeeding, they might say it’s because you have a purpose or personal benefit. If you’re struggling, they’ll judge you harshly. And if you’re quiet and reserved, they might assume something’s wrong.
The key is to focus on what brings you joy and fulfillment.
For me, basketball was a favorite pastime as a child, and I’d still love to play if I had the right place to do so. It’s important to pursue what makes you happy and brings you relaxation, regardless of what others might say.

The one thing I love about kids being kids playing in front of homes is we know exactly where they are and what they are doing .. when they are out of sight .. well we all know what can happen right ? Game on .. we know .. we don't hear game off 😢.. for myself , I would rather hear , GAME OFF !!

4:03+ Yes night basketball is really loud, some kids are smart & go to park parking lots & the police will leave them alone if they do that knowing they will tire out & leave, but yes playing while neighbors are sleeping is not ideal. Most police as you know just want to make sure you are o k & they will check up on you to make sure everything is okay & the times I've seen them do this with road sports most of the time the kids find a better safer quieter new location (parks far away from people) & somehow cops know they will do this (if they don't then maybe a problem starts) & if no one can hear them the police know they tire out & won't be there all night. Your being non judgmental & a basketball player yourself helps like this too I think :)

Street Hockey in da street,,,,, DENT CARS.... It's not 1952 anymore.

    • @GeorgeWashingtonLaserMusket
      @GeorgeWashingtonLaserMusket Месяц назад

Correct, metal cars would dent; but now days they're made of flexible plastic or fiberglass and don't dent. Also just playing with a tennis ball and don't swing your stick like a spaz.
Kids have the right to enjoy the streets just as much if not MORE then we do to park on the streets. If anything the solution is to outlaw parking on the streets not ban kids playing. I'd rather a kid play with other kids in our streets then trade bullets in a gun dual.

How u gonna hate on sports I rather take the dents over guns shots ? Remember ur not the feeling police.
